I remember watching a documentary about Queen and when Freddie was diagnosed, his band members lied to the press to protect his image. Their loyalty touched me and made me cry. Roger Taylor said something like "F*** off, he's our mate, we weren't going to tell the press, it was none of their business." If you weren't around in the 80s, it's difficult to express just how stigmatized HIV and AIDS were and how frightened people were of catching it. Princess Diana did a lot of good for AIDS patients by publicly shaking the hand of a man with AIDS.
Agree! I was nursing assistant (became an RN soon after) when scientists discovered that what was making these people sick was HIV AIDS. They made a separate ward for those pt’s and at first, no one wanted to work there.

I always think of _"that scene"_ in Wayne’s World whenever I hear Bohemian Rhapsody! The studio originally wanted to use a Guns N' Roses song for the head banging singalong, but Myers demanded Bohemian Rhapsody, even threatening to quit the production unless it was used. Freddie Mercury died a few months before the film's release. However he saw the head banging scene before his death, found it hilarious & approved the song for the film's use. Mike Myers _did_ clash with director Penelope Spheeris during filming, complaining: "I can't move my neck like that! Why do we have to do this so many times? No one is going to laugh at that!" Oh, but we did!☺️
FINALLY!! I first asked for this video more than 6 months ago....and my request had over 400 'thumbs up' when I last checked. Absolutely worth the wait...Freddie Mercury, the one, the only GREATEST frontman ever!! Thanks again for covering this, @Dr Todd Grande!!
An incredible talent - and until I read his biography, I had no idea what a kind, wonderful guy he was. His passing was a great loss to the music community of the world. Thanks for this tribute, Dr. Grande !
Anyone heard the Queen song called Mother Love? It was the last song that Freddie was recording before he passed and he never got to finish it 😭 At one point during the recording session, Freddie got so tired and decided to go home early. He told everyone to not worry cause he will be back in the studio very soon to finish recording, but he never returned. He passed shortly after 😭 And because of that, Brian May ended up finishing the vocals and you hear him in the end to complete what Freddie didn't get to. It's so heart wrenching.. I just can't!
I agree, it’s my favorite too. To me, that song is an ode to friendship which is such a wonderful relationship to cherish. So many songs express the romantic love but very few talk about the “best friend” love. It’s indeed very special.❤️
Obviously I can see how this song can fit well in a romantic relationship where the partner is also your best friend. But when I listen to it, I remember my 3 best friends.😉
Brian Wilson's story is a great suggestion for your channel. He is a genius musician who led the Beach Boys for a few years, but he suffered mental health issues and drug abuse problems for decades. He also suffered abuse from his father as a kid. His case is also fascinating because he had a highly abusive therapist, Dr Eugene Landy who "helped" him recover but he also took advantage of Brian. There is a youtuber called Jeffery Stillwell who did a few videos on Brian Wilson that I highly suggest for anyone who is unfamiliar with Brian.
Brian Wilson is a musical genius who can be hilariously shallow. When asked what he values the most in a woman, he replied “Legs.” Wonder if he thought of his mother at all while answering.
After I heard the terrible news about Mercury, I had a dream where I was sad and crying. Freddie was sitting on a king's throne, bending down to touch my face. I looked up and asked him why did Queen stop. He said, "My darling, we never did." I woke up and started crying all over again. I'll never forget that dream as long as I live.
Freddie loved all his cats deeply but Delilah, a beautiful rescue calico, was “the Queen” of his heart and home, the one he’d pick up and stroke the most often. He even wrote a song about her.
Whenever I watch a Freddie Mercury interview, I am struck by how soft spoken, gentle and contemplative he was. It is so removed from this on stage persona. There was a documentary that showed his work as a design student - it is really quite remarkable, and shows another facet to his talent.
When I watch video of Freddie now it is with a smile on my face, a tear in my eye and an ache in my heart for what more he might have been..I thank him for all that he shared with us...Thank you Dr Grande for this touching analysis...
A close friend of mine died from AIDS very close to the same times as Freddie. He started to become ill around the same time as well. He did seek treatment, but the early treatments were harsh and he eventually stopped them. He kept his illness private as well. He confessed in his last days that this was due to shame of the promiscuity that led to contracting the virus. It's something else to consider.
Very well-done and enjoyable as usual. Small detail: The Smile band was not originally formed with Freddie but with a bassist and singer named Tim Staffell, accompanied by Brian May and Roger Taylor. The band did some prolific demos in this setup which generated interest from some record companies. When Freddie took Tims place, naturally there was no more bass player, and the band finally decided on John Deacon.
Very interesting analysis. I have read a few accounts of people who met him. One person said he was very quiet, polite and serious when she met him, and chatted to her in a humble way in a club. Another person, who knew him before he was famous, said that he was already very confidant. Shortly after his death, I remember listening to a radio programme which discussed the nature of charisma. On the 'rock star performance scale' ranging from 1 to 10, Freddie was about 300.
I deeply regret I never got to see him in a live performance. What a talent and an exceptional performer. Mary obviously gave him trust, confidence and absolute loyalty, which his inner persona needed. She is so lucky to be “ the one and only woman partner for Freddie”. RIP Freddie, your music lives on, evermore.
Roger and Brian formed Smile with Tim Staffel, who was Freddie's roommate. When Tim left Smile, Freddie convinced them to take him as a singer and form a new band. Other than that, I liked your analysis. I think he had to build very strong walls around him since school: he always said he had to learn to fend for himself and male boarding schools in the 50s weren't exactly safe spaces for shy and sensitive kids. There's an interview where he says that Mary is the only person he could turn to, and I think it meant that with his other friends, he rarely revealed his weaknesses or doubts: he felt that he had to be strong for them. The fact that he looked so different on stage doesn't surprise me : it was a very shy actor playing an extrovert character. I'm sure he also acted like an arse when he was on drugs, but well, that's what drugs do. Everyone is extroverted after a couple of lines! I often wonder about his fear of being physically alone. For us introverts, it's usually our favourite thing in the world.
*because you/most people (didn’t exactly “take ‘the lost’ for granted” but you) didn’t immerse yourself in it (you chose to spend your time with other things & people), then you realize there just isn’t going to be ‘any more’. We miss the uniqueness that was and will never be again.
I love when you analyze musicians! 💗 Freddie is one of the best! Heartbreaking he was diagnosed w/ HIV AIDS prior to life-saving antiviral meds. 😢 Nonetheless, so amazing that it’s now a chronic illness and not a death sentence. 💖💗💖
My mom is a hugely massive Freddie Mercury fan, to this day she still cries if she thinks about him or David Bowie long enough. One thing that really twists the knife for me was at the end of his last performance was when he closed by saying "I love you" because he couldn't bear to say goodbye
Oh Freddie... An incredibly talented strong and vulnerable decent man. He lived two lives: that of a performer and of a human being. And he did not compromise either - the spirit that it takes. He was a comet that will keep shining its light and emit power onto us for many generations ... Such generosity, Freddie 🙏✨♥️
Thank you. Thank you for describing Freddie’s life and talent exactly as it was! Unique and gifted, there will never be another Freddie Mercury. He was just the best at what he did, and many will continue to enjoy his music for a very long time. Peace be with you, Freddie! You were, and are, The Best!
Freddie Mercury is by far my favorite musician and performer and I don't think that will ever change. Just when I thought his music couldn't get any better, he writes "Barcelona" and holds his own in a duet with a world renowned Soprano - Montserrat Caballe - the woman he adored and whom he writes the song about. A line from the song goes "The moment that you stepped into the room you took my breath away". Wow. That was Freddie! I heard an interview where he spoke about how nervous he was waiting for her to arrive for their first meeting and that line recounts his experience. The whole song is a tribute to her.
Thank you Dr. Grande. That was a fantastic analysis. Only our darling Freddy would sing with the amazing opera singer Montserrat Caballe. I have just revisited “Barcelona” what a stunning performance.
Freddie Mercury is the best frontman in rock period. I think he never was very addictive to drugs as he was with sex.His lifestyle is widely known and never felt that have been used against him as much, because he rarely maked the performance suffer from it. He was a constantly professional when it came to music .He was a introvert that transition to a great extrovert at stage. His sexuality is to me was his own private matters .He was a lover of life and singer of songs. 🎵 😊🎤🎶❤
I am an admirer rather than 'fan' of Queen's music, but I would still say Freddie Mercury is the greatest frontman of all time. Also when I think of him, I think about love, because he was the embodiment of love, giving and receiving.

Queen exhibited one of the most unique sounds I've ever heard in my opinion absolute genius I really enjoyed the movie Bohemian Rhapsody it was very well made so sorry he had such a sad ending it was not what God intended
I agree with everything you said, and not to take anything away from Freddie as a singer and frontman, but in regard to musicianship and song writing, Brian May was the hero of Queen to me, and definitely just as important to their success, and John saved the day a few times as well, coming up with some of their biggest hits when they needed one, and Roger drumming and singing his heart out, they were all great !
Hi Dr., I recently stumbled across a video regarding ambiverts, who have both introverted and extroverted tendencies. The direction ambiverts lean toward varies greatly depending on the situation, so this explained a lot about why I always knew that I was both introverted and extroverted. I love your very interesting videos, thank you. Donna

Can you do an analysis on the life, death and personality/mental health of Freddie Prinze Sr.? (Comedian who committed suicide at age 22 at the height of his career, his death was very controversial.)
My speech teacher always said some people’s comfort level is on stage in front of a lot of people, and some is one on one. If you can identify which one you are, you can be a great public speaker, performer.
Freddie was such an interesting character, great video!! Have you done anything on Bob Dylan? I would love to hear some analysis of his phases over the years

I still remember the stigma and AIDs myths in the 80s. So his reluctance to talk about it fits the context. For for my extended family and community the early 90s was when AIDS really hit. Tragically just before the breakthroughs in medication. . Freddie also didn't live long enough for that. RIP.
Thanks Dr. Grande! I used to fall asleep to a Queen VHS tape most nights when I was a wee girl, it was in chronological order so I'd normally fallen asleep by Flash Gordon. Still got a soft spot for Queen and Freddie.

Mhm, their sound changed music forever and to this day they continue to inspire musicians all around the world. LONG LIVE !
His 'band mates' were individually at least as talented musically as Freddie. His showmanship made him stand out.
So there!!! 🤣
I LOVE FREDDIE STILL.
AMEN
No one is going to laugh at that!" Oh, but we did!☺️
I don't know if many people now know that Queen was seen as a "guilty pleasure" band. They used to get ripped by critics in their day.
I love it he chooses to discuss the Queen after Prince Phillip. I love Freddie Mercury beautiful human.
👍😁
Maybe he'll do Prince next ;)
He was incredibly talented and kind. Oh, yes, he looked pretty good too! 👍❤️
Freddie would laugh and love it!😆
Oh good catch.😄🌈
I am grateful that Queen features heavily in the soundtrack to my childhood. RIP Freddie.
FINALLY!! I first asked for this video more than 6 months ago....and my request had over 400 'thumbs up' when I last checked. Absolutely worth the wait...Freddie Mercury, the one, the only GREATEST frontman ever!! Thanks again for covering this, @Dr Todd Grande!!
Lots of people have been asking for this.
@@MsBianca78 OK, Karen....lol....!!.
I’m glad that you requested this Linda thank you.
@@shonaharris9328 Thanks @Shona Harris. True 'Queen' fans, can NEVER get enough of Freddie Mercuey!
I miss Freddie in the world. What a presence! What a musician! 💜 Thank you Dr Grande
Freddie loved Mary Austin and left most of his fortune to her. Their unconditional devotion is inspiring.
If Freddie had only written Bohemian Rhapsody he'd be a composition genius. But, he gave us much much more.
Who wrote it? Freddy definately wrote the words. Cant help but think he was intended! in the music too. No pun intenede!

Considered by "some"? Oh the outrage! It WAS and ALWAYS will be THE GREATEST performance!
I've seen clips of Queen during band practice, and they performed as if they were onstage. 100%!
He was one of the most talented musicians in my lifetime.
Looking for likes stating what half of the world also thinks. Why? So much needing attention, its sad really
Indeed he was.
He was one of the most talented musician in ANY lifetime.

Freddy Mercury was indeed somebody to love

I've seen his Live Aid performance many times, and it still gives me goosebumps. Amazing talent!
He just had to get out of this prison cell, today he is free!
I love always loved Queen. My favorite song of all time is You're my best friend. It touches my heart to the point of tears. Happy tears.
*I believe he has already done Brian Wilson. Pretty sure he's done Rainn Wilson also, and if not, I know he's done Dwight Schrute.*
Agreed
Brian Wilson is a musical genius who can be hilariously shallow. When asked what he values the most in a woman, he replied “Legs.” Wonder if he thought of his mother at all while answering.
@@nomiddlenamenmn427
And he always has a straight face he's completely deadpan lol
I would love to hear Dr. Grande cover Brian Wilson.
After I heard the terrible news about Mercury, I had a dream where I was sad and crying. Freddie was sitting on a king's throne, bending down to touch my face. I looked up and asked him why did Queen stop. He said, "My darling, we never did."
I woke up and started crying all over again. I'll never forget that dream as long as I live.
Wow!! 🥺😩❤️❤️❤️
Freddie loved all his cats deeply but Delilah, a beautiful rescue calico, was “the Queen” of his heart and home, the one he’d pick up and stroke the most often. He even wrote a song about her.
Ahhh! Thank you Dr. Grande! My favorite high school band. I officially love you now.
Love the respect you gave to Freddie Mercury, and his rare talent! ♡
He was one of a kind!
I think about this, too. So sad and heartbreaking

I don’t know if there has been another person with the talent or personality as Freddie. He’s was amazing all the way until the end.
So lovely to post, good Doctor. You make my free time so much more enjoyable. Much love from the sunny Greece.
So glad and proud of finally own my "I am not diagnosing anyone" shirt
There’s a shirt?

Tears appeared at my cheek while you described Freddie Mercury as unique talent. Dr. Grande, thanks for analyzed his personality. Have been following Queen since 2020, it's hard to realize that I can't able to meet my idol. But your analysis made me realize that he's a beautiful and adorable person.
this was the first time in a long time I watched the entire video without obsessing over his plants. the content required respect of my full attention. :)
Queens performance at Live AID UK, stole the show and Freddie was magic that day. I can still see his performance of their hit, Radio Garga like a video in my mind when I hear it played on the radio. Everyone knew they were witnessing something special and the crowd went wild. Thanks for the music and memories Freddie RIP.
Good morning Dr Grande. Brilliant analysis. Thank you Dr Grande for your fair and compassionate analysis of Freddie Mercury life and death. Also the talented band Queen. Thank you Dr Grande, you are the best.
The four octave range has been confirmed, his singing ranged between f2 and f6. We won't ever see his like again. I still miss him.

I get the feeling Dr. Grande is a big Queen fan. He gave more opinions in this video than any I have seen to date. Rock on!
Queen exhibited one of the most unique sounds I've ever heard in my opinion absolute genius I really enjoyed the movie Bohemian Rhapsody it was very well made so sorry he had such a sad ending it was not what God intended
Queen is one of my favorite bands. It’s sad he suffered so much. Great job. I watched this one before. I just love your analysis.

Wow I'm speculating this is going to be great.
You were right.
100% Correct!
Great analysis, thank you. I also heard that during his very early performances, Freddie always had his back to the crowd.
This is a dam good one right here doc.. thank you!!!!! Such an amazing artist with vocals from the gods!!!
Thank you... Dr. G for discussing the life of this beautiful man.
Donna
That was a nice tribute, Dr. GRANDE!
Queen was an incredible part of my life- just unbelievable music- like nothing else!! I remember one of the first u tube videos I ever saw was a mom taking her kids to school & they were very young & Bohemian Rhapsody came on the radio & those tiny children sang every word of that song along with the Mom-it was outstanding!! I have never forgotten it!! The power of Queen!! Generational!!
Only Dr. Grande can take on a personality analysis of the inestimable, irreplaceable Freddie Mercury. 💗
I was fortunate enough to attend Live Aid in 1985. That is when Freddie Mercury became my God.
What a fabulous experience!! 💗💖💗

I was fortunate to see Queen in the early 80's...What a show!!! What a performance! 😍

Thank you for your intelligent analysis of the amazing artist Freddy Mercury. What an interesting man.
Freddie Mercury was also raised in the most ancient and self isolated religion of Zoroastrianism.
Can you do an analysis on the life, death and personality/mental health of Freddie Prinze Sr.? (Comedian who committed suicide at age 22 at the height of his career, his death was very controversial.)
As a child,i found it quite disturbing.
My speech teacher always said some people’s comfort level is on stage in front of a lot of people, and some is one on one. If you can identify which one you are, you can be a great public speaker, performer.
Freddie was such an interesting character, great video!!

Freddie Mercury for me was more then a very talented musician. ❤
I watched his movie. Rami Malik did a great job. After the movie, I felt sad. It made me miss Freddie. An amazing talent!
