I’ve been using the light Absolute Fencing mask and it has been great, it does its purpose for introducing you to HEMA and light sparring, but yesterday I received a hit to my right ear that caused me a sore where the jaw connects and tinnitus for a little amount of time; yes I know that I should have raised my Ox guard faster but still, to the sides it doesn’t have a really good padding, pretty much is just a soft nylon cushion so your ears won’t touch the steel mesh.
My club trusts AF masks because they're pretty much the only ones that haven't failed on us. I personally like using a modded removable AF overlay so I can take it off for light drilling (it really makes a difference in weight and mobility).

What is that more-expensive mask that you guys were referring to at the end of the video?
where could one get one of these in europe?
is one thumb good? I mean is that 1/10? or 1 thumb for the available thumbs? that would be 4.. unless there is a guy behind the camera then the mask gets a 1 out of 6 thumbs. I am a dog doing HEMA and I don't really get thumbs

I'd really like to see some sparring with the greatsword. Do you have any members who practice Figueirdo's 16 rules in particular? I aspire to practice said rules and I'd like to see how the different rules can correspond to the scenario they're designed for in actual combat.
You can't really spar with great swords for safety reasons.
Restraint is key, even contact sparring with longswords requires control and self restraint. My apologies in advance if you already knew in case I insulted you in some way
I think the academy of historical fencing has a couple videos with synthetic great swords.

Apparently really bad. Their heat treatment is inconsistent at best, so they tend to shatter upon contact.
I know I'm late on watching this but what is the more expensive HEMA mask you were talking about for the senior students? I would like to know because I am starting hema as a hobby and want to take it seriously enough to do competitive hema.

Also the hema group in Tallahassee FL is small and I am going to move to a city close by just to practice but the hema group in that City only trains individuals in style of German long sword, which isn't a problem because I do love that style but I also want to learn fiore dei liberi style of long sword because my research tells me that he learned form German masters and was greatly influence by them. When not practicing the German long sword I will parctice fiore dei liberi long sword style. basically I want to know who sells a reliable manual that depicts his style accurately and efficiently. Thank you.
