Very good, well presented and the only channel showing these solutions that I can find. It’s actually a very good solution and cheap and easy to get these Boss devices. Many thanks.
Yeah, he seems to be a clean picker with an interesting style that might be a great fit. Someone should really tell @ichika_nito about MIDI Guitar 2, and that there is a free trial version to get at www.jamorigin.com/download/ 😀🤝
Great tutorial as usual! I’m about to try a SWAM Cello for iphone and already have the Boss EV1-WL bluetooth pedal. Quick question before I jump in… will I have enough to control a SWAM app with just this pedal and MidiGuitar2? Maybe you have covered this in another tutorial?🥂
Well, the only thing you NEED for any SWAM instrument to work is something for expression. So, in theory, you would already be able to play it with just MIDI Guitar (using aftertouch for expression) but with that pedal you are now able to control the amount of expression you want to use. Short answer is yes! 👍
@@lofileif Thanks Leif. I just remembered that the Blueboard footswitch supports two expression pedals. Would there be any advantage to an extra pedal ( and switches) and if so what parameter would it be used on when running SWAM on iphone?
@@anthonymcgrath9301 There is absolutely an advantage to using two pedals over one. One will be dedicated to the expression, but where to use the other one depends on the instrument. I like to control Bow pressure for string instruments, and also sometimes bow position (sometimes both on the same CC). You could use footswitches for sustain and harmonics for instance. That makes for a great deal of control! 👍
@@lofileif Thanks! I reckon I’ll go for the Cello and see how it works…its still pretty damp and dark in Scotland and a wee project will keep me busy while we wait for the planet to turn its face to the Sun! It’s really grand to have your immediate and accurate information. Also great to have these tutorials to speed the ios music revolution!
Oh, I don't know the first thing about the PC bluetooth protocol I am afraid. I use the WIDI Uhost to always be able to connect any and all bluetooth devices I have, without having to go into any menu or anything. It sort of just works (for me). But you really shouldn't need it, to be perfectly clear. 👍
These are desktop examples. Whenever I use Lumbeat here I use the iPad audio straight into the audio interface, and it gets is own channel in Abelton (or something).
EV-1-WL seems to be exactly what I was looking for. Can you, please, tell if it's possible to use it also as a regular expression pedal, to control other pedals like Ehx Pitchfork?
Well, you probably can, but it is way more of a workaround than setting up with a traditional cabled Expression pedal like the EV5 directly to the Pitch Fork EXP pedal input. The EV-!-WL does NOT have an EXP OUT that you can connect directly.
Why would you want to do that? I assume you are talking about a 5pin DIN, and there is no such output. The point of using this particular pedal is probably its bluetooth connectivity, and the fact that you can use multiple outputs for this gives us additional value. But if you are interested in a pedal to use with a cable, there are better options, I believe.
@@lofileif there are very few midi expression pedals. i got one, but it broke. the usb power supply port wasnt manufactured good, so i'm looking for alternatives. play live with it and my boss sy300 hx stomp...
I have the FBC 1010 midi pedal. However I'm unable to use it with the software nothing happens. If I use stand alone I can select the FBC 1010 but nothing happens. Can the editor that you use in this video be used?
The editor I use is an app specifically for that BOSS pedal. The FCB 1010 is a Behringer controller. I don’t see how they would work together. What is wrong with the actual Behringer editor software: mountainutilities.eu/fcb1010
@@rodgerwebb1 I have several report of people using FCB 1010 with MG2, so I assume there is no general problem here. Hello! Your explanations and sharing are very appreciated. Huge work. Thank you! This is Giorgio Robino. I'm a guitarist me too and in past I made ambient music as SOLYARIS MUSIC. I would like to use pedal midi CC controller for some purposes. One of them are to use pedals (from 2 to 4) to control virtual instruments parameters, exactly as you shown in this video, when controlling a spitfire orchestral Kontakt instrument. The TEC MIDI Pedal Controller you explained could be perfect, allowing me recycling old expression pedals I have at home, nevertheless IMMO it is too expensive (70 EOR for each pedal). Do you maybe have experience with the cheap device: "DOREMIDI Expression Pedal Converter Pedal Sustain Pedal Expander MPC-10". If I well understand it manage nr. 2 foot controllers and it's apparently cheap. My perfect setup could be a robust multi-pedals pedalboard having say 4 expression pedals. Do exists something similar, as far as you know? The cheap way maybe could be the Beringher FCB 1010... Any suggestion? Thanks again giorgio
Hi Giorgio! I have no personal experience with the FCB1010, but I have been using the Roland FC300, which is practically the same. It is certainly robust, but it is also pretty heavy. And both of these communicate ONLY with a 5-pin MIDI setup of some sort. Not that isn’t neccesarily a problem. We can always use something like the CME bluetooth stuff for that, but perhaps you want to take a look at the Keith McMillen footpedals? Really lightweight and my Softstep (at least) has a 3,5 plug connection for adding an extra expressionpedal. The TEControl Pedal Controller is indeed great for small, easy to set up, sessions on the fly. I use it a lot with my iPad or iPhone setups. But sure, it does cost a pretty penny, relative to its rather limited scope. Whatever you choose, don’t forget the connectivity issue. I have a few earlier videos with these footcontrollers as well, if you are interested. ua-cam.com/video/EBXID-u7GkU/v-deo.htmlsi=RsrQtAefggh8fZga

Thank you thank you thank you Leif for breaking this down in such fine detail!!! I have been wondering what expression pedal is easiest for MPE (like SWAM) on the iPad. We don't deserve the work you're doing for our benefit!
Hi John! I am happy to hear you like this. With regard to any expressionpedal for MPE Iinstruments specifically, I don’t know. What distinguish an MPE controller is the use of four or five parameters: press, strike, glide, slide, lift. And since the idea is to be applying this PER NOT, I don’t see how any expression pedal would work here. But you can certainly control SWAM instruments expression with such a pedal. No problem. 👍😀
