Thank you so much...I was struggling to get the wah to turn on and off in Helix Native with a CC. Dragging the folder into the audio folder did the trick. You made my day dude...Two thumbs up
Brilliant- and tying a pedal to the volume controls on Reaper is not useless. You can control live sounds on stage with midi board, pedal and laptop. Would never have figured this out in manual.
This video just solved the last piece of a puzzle I was trying to work out. The bit about creating a child track to send the midi input to a track receiving audio from my interface was something I could not intuit on my own.
Thank you for this video. I had no idea you could do this and had been wondering if I could the past week. You uploaded just in time. I’m having to move plugins for practice and recording.
The bigger use, imho, is to control expression in VST instruments. It allows you to vary dynamics while playing two-handed on the keys - no need to mess with the mod wheel.
Cool! I always looked for special instruments with expression capabilities (pipes, horns, e-guitar) or "bending" like aftertouch. Re-thinking more actions is great! Thanks for sharing
@@TheREAPERBlog Next time you demo a product maybe you could broker a deal with some MFG'rs or retailers to get some $$. I ordered the cheapest one I could find on Sweetwater, its the Nektar NX-P.
YES! I've had SO many issues getting my Exp Pedal to work as a WAH or VOLUME with my SIMs. haven't gotten all the way through the vid yet - but THANK YOU in advance!
Very useful lesson, thank you! When you're using the expression pedal to control the wah effect for a guitar in the amp sim, was the hardware pedal still connected to Reaper through the input jack on your MIDI keyboard? Do I need a hardware MIDI keyboard with an expression pedal input jack to use a pedal like this, or is there a simpler way (less expensive / or without a MIDI keyboard) to use an expression pedal as a guitar wah effect in an amp sim?
You may want to check out a little $49 adapter called "Midi Expression" from Audiofront. It works pretty well and it will work with either an expression pedal or an analog volume pedal (with a little tweaking). Haven't used it specifically for wah in an amp sim yet, but it works with anything I've assigned to it in Reaper
Hey man! So im trying to do this with the same expression pedal but its plugged into my kempers foot controller. The log isnt reading either one of my pedals. ?Help? I followed exactly what you did
Hello, Bravo super tutorial that helped me a lot, maybe you could help me, I reaper a pedal fcb 1010, and vst neural dsp plini, I configure my pedals from 6 to 10 for effects, and pedals expressions volumes. but impossible to configure the pedals 1 to 5 to change the presets would you have an idea thank you very much
Hello! Thanks for the video! I have an Alesis Vi61 that only have Sustain input. I suppose that I can´t use this input with an expression pedal right? I would really appreciate it if you could help me with this. Thank you!
@@TheREAPERBlog thank you. Yes, you confirmed what I expected. Actually, what I want is an expression pedal to control volume , fx etc... But I can't use one of those in the sustain input of my controller. Thank you anyway for your help!
One thing I noted was that the action list mentioned MIDI-channel when you assigned it. Am I right that you could swap what action the pedal controls by changing the MIDI output channel on the keyboard? Of course, you'll have to assign the actions first.

Thank you, This was driving me crazy getting it set up

I was ready to send my pedal back because I was expecting a plug and play. Thanks so much for the info.
Thanks so much, I've been trying to find out how to use my expression pedal with Reaper for longer than I care to admit!

An important tip. I am happy it helped.

Thanks to your video and demo I just bought an expression pedal.

thanks so much! I'm really happy that this helped you
Excellent, now have Reaper, Amplitube VST, and a FCB1010 working together. Many thanks.
Rock on!
Hi Jon. Thank you for your fantastic explanation. Saved me a lot of time
I've been doing this for sends! A great way to control reverb and delays and preserve the "tails"
Excellent tutorial! Thanks!
absolutely valuable information! and for sure leaving a like just for the fact you're wearing an Anciients t-shirt
Awesome video !
That was an excellent tutorial, thanks a lot!
I was looking for this! thanks!
Great material. Thank you for sharing this!
wonderful you solved my problem already at 1:30 ... I just used the wrong cc
Interesting, thanks! I prefer using Realearn for expression pedals. Awesome plugin that gives you lot of flexibility.
This is awesome! What if you dont have a keyboard with an expression pedal input? Any other option to perform this same option for guitar?
Brilliant video, helped me out big time, thank you so much..
Thanks so much for that!
Thanks for this, Jon!

Ooh nice, I'll have to try this!

sustain is a momentary on/off switch. the main function is to hold notes with your hands off the keys. You can find them for about $20 on amazon.

USB based expression pedals are available. I reviewed some here ua-cam.com/video/HTuR5D81T-I/v-deo.html

That's pretty neat!
I need an expression pedal to test some plugins. My midi controller only has a sustain input. Would it work? Thank you!
sustain is usually just on/off switch.
Someone has a recomendation of expression available in UK?
I tried it. All I got was tons of feedback. It controlled the pedal, but with tons of noise. (BiasFX2 in Reaper)
I am wanting to record the guitar first then go back and record the automation. Is there a way to do that?
Should be simple enough, use the two-track method shown in the video, but only record-enable the MIDI track on your second pass.
Could you use this with NDSP Gojira pitchshifter?
Yep 👍
