Jazza: Tries to melt tinfoil
Tinfoil: Is used for baking all over the world specifically because it doesn’t melt
Aluminium melts quite easily compared to iron. Just throw it in a hot campfire and it'll melt
It did though
Only zinc and lead have lower melting points than aluminum aside from liquid metals like mercury. If you wanted to do casting of metals at home this is likely to be your choice to begin with. it melts around 1200 F or 600 C Would be pretty tragic if an oven could melt the stuff
It does melt easily but in fire not like heat

One thing you might find helpful is aluminium foil tape. It's used for sticking insulation together, and is basically a roll of self-adhesive aluminium foil. That would solve your problem of edges, and can smooth out areas too.

I love Iron Giant, I cried so hard several times at that movie and I never understood why it was a box office failure. It was BRILLIANT! Your recreation was delightful and I applaud you for even trying it. I can only imagine how good it could be if you'd let yourself put clay on, but I think it would have lost some of it's charm. :)
I know I wish someone did a cross over of walle baymax next gen Ron astroboy and atia battle angel and chapie and irobot and maybe transformers 😅

One of my favorite things about Jazza is that I truly have no idea what video he will come out with next! I love how he has such a wide variety of traditional illustrations, digital illustrations, animations, sculptures with a variety of materials (clay, felt, foil, etc), and more!
I made a spaceship for a stop motion school project out of cardboard and tin foil. Impressed my teacher so much it's now permanently on her "wall of fame." That was my one and only art achievement.
This is so validating. I LOVED making art with tin foil as a kid. I regularly emptied the whole house of foil to my dads dismay.
Hi! I did this in middle school! We used sandpaper to smooth out the surface for my detail work!
Ahh it looks brill. 😎 Every credit for persevering! I learned a couple of things through trial and error whilst working with tin foil to make birds that i then decoupaged.
Trick 1: Use really cheap tin foil... it is thinner making it more malleable meaning less hard lumps and bumps to smooth out.
Tip 2: Use the cardboard tube inside of the foil as a battering and shaping device, it's quite a thick tube and works surprisingly well to compact and compress and smooth the shape. 😊👍
We have the Iron Giant on VHS. My kids have both watched it probably more times than I ever did as a kid. My 6 year old son says you did a great job with this. "You can fly? You can fly!" "You are who YOU choose to be." And of course my favorite clip is when Mansley gets his face shut in the bathroom door because he's a weirdo.

On a slightly more serious note, I absolutely adore your creativity and passion. As much as I enjoy art in my everyday life, it's very up and down. It's inspiring to see someone continually be expressive and creative and I always find myself wondering what you will come up with next!

Definitely agree with the statement about the Iron Giant movie being a really great underrated animated film.
I love these types of art with a few simple things that we all have at home that we could actually emulate if we pleased, so many creators do these huge sculptures with loads of expensive supplies that we just couldn’t afford and instead of feeling inspired you actually feel empty that you wished you could do something on a smaller scale but don’t have the right stuff. This is fun, entertaining and possible I love it 😍

Jazza along with many others I think you are fantastic. I eagerly wait for each new up load. on top of everything else you are very easy on the eyes and its a joy to watch your escapades.
I think one technique that might work to create detail would be compression. Make a stamp and use pressure to stamp it into the surface of the crumpled foil. You might need to use a strap to go around the structure and press into it from all sides.
The, “Iron Giant,” was one of my favorite movies as a kid. My kids love it now! That movie pulls at your heart strings ♥️😩

There is this Aluminium-Folie Tape. I use it to make my books look like they have metal covers. Taped over gears coins and so on. With a pen it can be "engraved" to give it some texture. There are also people who engrave or impression aluminum Foil (and fill the back of it with plaster). There are some really impressive aluminum arts out there . This time I think Jazza didn't even came close to find out what foil can do.

yes jazza finally I love this type of sculpture I make little sculpture with tin foil only then cover them with surgical tape and cover it with paint and it with some extra tweak works surprisingly well
Using a ball-peen hammer in a similar method to making the once popular polished aluminum foil spheres might also work for making sculptures.

Don’t know why but watching this video made me cry (in a happy way). When I was younger I loved making crafts but we didn’t have a lot so one day I used tin foil to make this little whale family. I showed my mother and she just yelled at me for “wasting all the foil”. Wish so badly I could show my younger self this video back then. Thank you so much Jazza for this video.

As an alternative to this you could find an engineer to help you machine some metal parts rather than spending a fortune on aluminum foil. Colinfurze would be perfect for the job.
But then it wouldn't be all his own work.

Hey Jazza, I actually do this as my hobby. And a tip is to use ducktape it works very well. I've made many things in tin foil. And you did very well for your first time. I'm impressed!!!!
There was a period of a couple years in my adolescence where I was fascinated with what I could make with aluminum foil and would make all kinds of different birds, this was an absolute treat

Foil is like the greatest material for textured scapes and structures, in my opinion

From using aluminum in my own sculpture that I'm working on now, Aluminum tape has been the biggest help to smooth out details! Just in case anyone else wants to challenge themselves with something like this

Hey Jazza, I have a video idea for you: making Alpha knotted wall hangings. There are a few youtubers who make (chevron) bracelets and wall hangings. Its basically painting with wool/string and knots. It could be a challenge and a bit different than other vids you make.
Also: you should have a movie day with your studio (call it team building) and watch the Iron Giant. It was one of my favourite movies when I was a child.

I love the final result! Tin foil is a PAIN to work with and I think this came out pretty amazing. I love the Iron Giant, too. Definitely an underrated film with real heart.
I love making cavas painting with alleminium foil. You put a drawing with hot glue on a canvas then i put foil on it 3 or 4 layers with pva glue and top layers with spray glue because that dries faster. When you do this then scratch on it in paterns or random , after 3 days it was dry and then it looks like sheet metal that you bang it in with a hamer

You can actually get a nice smooth foil after scrunching it by rubbing it with the back of a spoon with medium hard pressure. You can shine it up and smooth it out beautifully. My kids do this when they use it to make space suits and things.
Jazza! If you look up, you can make foil smooth! People on UA-cam have made foil balls in smooth round foil balls. I think it would help in this project.
Jazza a really good way to smooth and "sculpt" foil is to take something hard and smooth, like a spoon, and rub it against the foil. It's really effective from personal experience

I have found if you staple the lumps of foil together it creates more solid shapes but it also makes a dent, so.
I love the defiant little hairs on the back of his head.... they are like children when you are in the middle of a meeting on Skype.... just popping into the back ground every now and then.....
And to be clear, i am not making fun of his hair or the fact it isn't perfect, i am just Anthropomorphizing strings of coloured keratin into deviants because it brings me joy.......

I have a very very specific memory of where I was when I first saw The Iron Giant as a kid. I know exactly what I was doing, exactly where I was and who was with me, and around the general age I was. This video brought back that memory for me.
