Fun stuff! I made wedding rings in 2002 from this and I had several arguments with jewelers/silversmiths telling me silver clay didn't even exist. It dries quick and the secret is to fire it fully. When I used it there was zero information in English on how to use it so I kinda winged it for the most part lol.
That’s actually really cool! Had people just never heard of it before? 🤷🏽♀️
I used it in a college art class in 2006ish. I didn’t like working with it, but maybe that’s just because I didn’t like what I made. The product is pretty cool though.
I learned of PMC back in 1995. I saw it in a Fire Mountain (jewellers supply) catalogue. I have never tried it out.
Bravery. I respect that.
Where can I find this clay at? Because I would really fun to make a custom necklace with it
It'd be such a bummer when I inevitably hate the first few iterations of what I've made and throw away $500 worth of clay.
Omg I love your videos
You can recycle clay you know
@@wifipassword7383 I don’t know if you can recycle it once it’s cured and polished tho
Don’t worry and just make a Kirby!
Make the first iterations out of normal clay...
PMC is a very sticky clay so it's a good idea to use a barrier cream on your fingers and tools so you're not loosing expensive clay. It's also very difficult to sculpt. It shrinks a substantial amount when fired as you're burning out the organic material. You can fuse silver together but you run the risk of melting either part as the temperature to fuse is very close to melting point. With your silver surfer piece you could get a bit of silver solder and join them that way. Would love to see how you planned finish that off.
First reply haha, good info! I might get some of this myself
I literally looked for your comment because I remembered you used this lol
i hate dogs
@@CheesiX8 dogs hate you then. Find somewhere else to be miserable
@@jinx6573 i know dogs hate me every time i see one they attack me
silver clay consists of silver particles and a binder that evaporates when heated, for anyone that was curious how it could be silver and a clay and hasn't used this stuff before.
Thank you, I appreciate this haha.
Ty I was looking for this kind of comment bc I’m too lazy to Google it
The secret to a really smooth, shiny finish is to sand with super fine grit papers and then gently burnish *before* you fire. I did a workshop with silver clay ages ago back in 2005 and loved it. I made a few pieces and would have liked to experiment more but unfortunately the cost was too much at the time.
I love the patina/colour effects you added to the pen. Maybe if you revisit the silver clay you could make some jewellery for Mrs Jazza :) It would be interesting to see you sculpt/form on that ultra tiny level. (You can even set gems in if you get lab created stones.)
Oh.. the nose ring doesn't look terrible! ;)
They make other metals. It might not have the prestige of silver, but bronze will take a decent shine. It goes for about $20 for 100g.
Did you mean uh not oh?
base metal clay is much less expensive and bronze clay is very close to 14 K gold in appearance.
I was thinking the exact same thing! I would love to see him make things for his wife~
When you did that workshop, Shadow of The Colossus was a brand new game
Do you think Sauron, before making the one ring to rule them all, made himself a nose ring?
the nose ring to sneeze them all
Underrated comment 😭
Probably
Lame
Probably would have looked more intimidating and won the battle lol
Safety note: It's generally a bad idea to wear gloves near any rapidly spinning tool! The fabric can get easily hooked and wrap on the spinning shaft, leading to injury and possibly appendage loss!
Thick all-leather gloves near a low-torque dremel are probably going to be okay, but there are so many other solutions to this problem -- wooden ring clamps are useful for this exact purpose, but there are plenty of solutions that don't require specialized tools from clothes pins, small woodworking clamps, pliers with a bit of padding.
Be safe out there kids and and keep the fabric away from the spinny things!
It's also generally a bad idea to hold metal with anything but your hands when polishing. You need to know how hot the metal is so you don't burn yourself or melt your piece. An ice bath would be recommended if you're using gloves.
Had such a blast looking at this!!
I'm a goldsmith, and I always love it when someone picks up some of the trade. It is a price profession, but there is nothing more fun than seeing something looking like doodoo turning into a piece of glossy amazingness.
If you ever want to do this again, I can help you out with some tips and tricks regarding getting a good high gloss polish and with soldering multiple clay pieces together.
The clay works in the following way. It is a silver grain infused with a soldering type fluid that gives it that kneedability and makes sure when you heat it, it melts together. The reason you got fire it because you burn those fluids out of your material. Heating it up to fiery red makes sure that the silver is at the start of its melting road and starts to bind together while evaporating the fluids.
P.s. please don't you plastic cups with hot stuff. Just use an old pickle jar with more water. Gives my heart an easier time
As a jeweller and silversmith, this material looks like a total game changer for 3D jewelry. I wonder why I didn't know about this stuff earlier
U make jewelry!!! Thats so cool!!!
@@imhomewiththemilk haha thanks!
All I’ll say is only buy a little . Test the heck out of it .
I think a bot might have copied your comment... I'm not sure what to do about that.
PMC has a bit of shrinkage so making something like a ring would be tricky. Also, once the clay medium burns off you end up with fine silver - so a bit soft for jewellery.
I never expected to be flipped off by a smiley Jazza with a nose ring, but i am not disappointed. Love the new vid!
I've read this comment before that part came up and I was like 🤔 and then there he was 🤣🤣
Yeah, I was look for this comment LMFAO.
Saaaaaaaame
It's like he's from the Mirror Universe
He's on a phase..
When using a rotary tool (or drill press) you'll want to avoid using gloves. If the glove gets caught in the tool, you could easily lose a finger.
Here's the comment I was looking for!
To add: keep a bowl of water right next to your grinding station to quench the low heat so you can keep working. If you power through that heat with gloves on, you might accidentally anneal your piece and that's usually not a good thing to do at that step
Seeing jazza do the middle finger just made me more entertained than the whole video
I dunno why
Same
probably because you're a teenager
@@peacockfeathers7409 nah, I'm 35 and I laughed out loud at it, for some reason.
I've used it before and it's great stuff. However you have to account for shrinkage as each clay type has a different percentage if you're blending it with different metals. There is a copper version of this stuff too. Oh, and you could use glazes as well instead of paint to colour any models.
Suggestion for anyone wanting to try out Precious Metal Clay, instead of using a regular craft mat, use a glass craft mat/work surface.
The clean up is so much easier, and the fact that you can use a razor blade to scrape together all of the excess means you'll have next to no loss.
The same holds true for polymer clay, though the drastically lower cost doesn't make it as important as it is for PMCs.
it kind of bothers me he has about $50 of clay on his hands. haha
@@barbaracarter6726 I guess you could use latex gloves for that.
@@Amber_Scarlet not me - allergic to latex. But we who use silver metal clay keep every molecule we can. We would wash in a container so the clay sunk to the bottom and let the water evaporate. It can be used as slip to join pieves together,
Fun Fact: When you were polishing the ring and said it was generating a lot of heat. Out of all metals, silver has the highest thermal conductivity. No wonder why it was getting so hot
It’s always fun and fascinating to see you try new things! Loved the final pen!
Omg I am a fan!
Did you just flip me off 3:35 🤣
haha Speaking of melting it down I was going to say now that you're dabbling in the world of jewellery making would love to see you give lost wax casting try. I think the carving aspect would be right up you alley.
I collect fountain pens and I was absolutely crying laughing at that commercial. Terrible CGI and needlessly expensive indeed. 😂
I would spend £40,000 on your pen before I even considered the chaos pen! Way more character for sure.
3:34 he’s so smooth about it
This is a really interesting medium. You and the team have been killin' it with videos recently, Jazza. Amazing work!
You need a buffing wheel and a buffing compound not a grinding wheel which will grind it away.
Thank you! It was killing me to see him grinding instead of polishing...
That soft echo you hear has me relaxed. It makes what you do seem more real. Love it!
You can try to solder it together.
This is one of the coolest things I've ever seen tho. It is like magic. Pretty cool man
Silver solder would definitely work
Have you considered using the acylic uv cured nail art powders to do 2D art on an acrylic panel. Or even trying it for a 3D sculpture?
Jazza is like making tutorials for adults to play with stuff and keep their inner child alive.
“Metal conducts heat” understatement of the century considering that Silver is one the best materials in terms of thermal conductivity.
That is absolutely amazing. Never heard of this substance before. Thank you for sharing the content. Professionally produced as usual!
3:35 They way he just flipped us off lol!
lol
omg yeah tell us how you really feel jazza
I recently bought myself some of that clay, and it was super fun to watch! But knowing how expensive it ist, I was shocked how you just jumped into it without much research (as it seems, isn’t be sure of course) XD
Jumping into new mediums is jazza’s brand. Absolutely fantastic to watch
Business expense. This video will more than make up for the money spent especially having a sponsor
I literally just want to see one if your insanely amazingly detailed life-size statues made of entirely of silver… and armature.
This has to be the coolest medium ive seen! It would be so cute if youd make a custom ring for Mrs Jazza!!
It might be possible to solder the surfboard and wave together with some tin-solder and a bit of flux :D Who knows, you might even be able to silver-braze it!
This. You absolutely can solder them together, I do it with accents that I make out of PMC to add to my silver jewelry.
If I ever move to Australia, I want to work for Jazza! I love dabbling with all sorts of art materials and I want to learn from a pro and fellow kinaesthetic learner ☺️ I like to read instructions also, bit learning by doing and by applying logic is definitely something I do every day! Love your videos and what you do makes me very happy ☺️❤️ Hugs from Sweden
I was just playing around with bronze clay to make metal stamps to impress in leather. Definitely works better on non-precise things. Great job, Jazza!
I'm not usually a fan of septum rings, but you rock that thing!
I absolutely love watching all of your most exciting mediums - alcohol ink, sculpture, resin! - come together and take your projects to whole new levels!
Also, you get immeasurable bonus points for saying 'superfluous'.
... *Gasp!*
Artsmith Jazza, your Silver Surfer could live again inside a 3D backlit diorama, with the character surfing through dimensional layers of hand-painted acrylic wonder! I should calm down and go to bed, but I'm too excited.
ya know, the septum ring actually does suit Jazza pretty well.
came here looking for this. He looks good!
It really doesn't. Nobody looks good with one of those things.
i was hoping he'd wear it for the whole video xD
But not forever
@@andrewmontague9682 ah, opinions, everyone has one, and some think theirs is the best.
I love the mispelling of Legendary at the end as LegenDAIRY. Awesome.
This is mind blowing! So cool!
I LOVE THIS!!! 😆😆😆😆 The metal clay, the idea of being chaotic through the medium of art, This video speaks to me on a whole 'nother level!!! Keep up the great work jazza!! You're one of my biggest inspirations man, much love 💚💚
Legit would like to see some more art to a heavy metal soundtrack. That was fun.
As always, Jazza showing me exactly what I wanted to see before I even knew I wanted it. High quality videos, fun projects and a winning personality to boot! Thanks for all the great content.
Loved the video. Keep up the amazing work!
It was fun watching you work with a medium that I’ve been working with for years. Personally I prefer bronze and copper metal clay and the kind I use requires a kiln but they do have brands that can be torch fired just like the silver clay. It’s also cheaper than silver.
I'm sitting here and wondering what's the chemistry behind these clays
@@bl4cksp1d3r it’s simple at its core. One part binder to 3 parts metal particles and add water. The binder burns off at about 800 degrees Fahrenheit more or less depending on the type of binder. And depending on the metal, the particles start to fuse together at a high enough temperature. About 1100 degrees for silver, 1400-1550 for bronze and 1500-1650 for copper. The fusion process is called sintering. I personally make my own copper and bronze clay which requires being fired in a kiln in a bed of coconut carbon to keep the metal from oxidizing as it sinters. And now that I’ve probably bored you to tears I’m gonna go 😁. But if you’d like to see what I’ve done I do have an Etsy shop under the same name as my username
@@AnneStanDesigns I could never be bored when I get a great answer, Thank you ::,w,::
@@bl4cksp1d3r thank you for that. I’m a bit of a nerd when it comes to metal clay. Always happy to share my knowledge
@@AnneStanDesigns you're doing beautiful work btw, be proud of what you do and know! :D
awesome to see you giving this a go, I love the idea of this clay - could make some awesome stuff
*"The universe is telling me I gotta go big."*
_What a quote_
The visual effects are stunning especially at the end
It's freaking awesome how much you try new things. That pen is a hot mess but the ring was cute and I wanted to see a silver skateboard.
Jazza, as someone with a septum ring, I think you look GREAT with one!
Second! (I have one too)
The amount of work you put in to your videos is outstanding
Really enjoyed this video, keep up the great work dude!!!
Yooooo Jazza!
Great videos as always🤙
pmc3 is a clay compound that contains sterling silver and is "activated" in a sense when exposed to heat/energy. PMC stands for precious metal clays and has silver in a fine powder form which are all bounded together by something known as organic binders, once it is heated, it dehydrates and basically dissintegrates leaving the clay behind. You have to be careful with this clay or it'll become silver and you'll be unable to make it into clay again.
If you really want to technically you can melt it down, grind it into a powder and add your own binder to just make new clay with it, most people don't just have the tools for that on hand. But you can also just melt it into nuggets and sell it to a jeweler
@@whatcanidooo it won't have the sheen on it from the end product of the clay melting being in the mix, it's sort of reversible but very difficult to do so and not as efficient
@@Tronex333 I don't really know what you mean by "the end product of the clay melting"?
@@whatcanidooo the residual product. The organic compound used varies depending on where u get it from but the stuff binding it when combusted doesn't all form into gas and trying to get that out of silver is hard so the silver wont be as pure and will lose it's sheen
@@Tronex333 ah okay that makes sense. I guess I've seen people take scraps and melt them to liquid, which I assume gets rid of all the binder?
15:15
The silver bleeding through makes it look like your still drawing a picture.
It's like the pen itself a image of creativity in media res.
Watching all this come together was a masterpiece, as per usual! I definitely thought you were going to keep the nose ring in throughout the whole video! But reading these comments and seeing how many people knew about this clay/silver, I genuinely enjoyed watching you dabble with it and it would be cool to see the silver surfer come into fruition someday!
that PMC clay stuff is really cool! My mom makes a lot of jewelry, and I've seen her use it a few times before. She made these really cool looking silver leaves out of it, and a few crosses. I believe you can also get it in other metals as well?
that’s so cool!! I‘d love to see your mom’s jewelry and leaves :)
yes, they started making it in brass and copper a while ago, makes it MUCH easier to play with. oh using silver clay slip to coat organic things and then firing it into a these delicate little pieces is one of my personal favorite things of using it for. there are ways to get similar effects with traditional jewelry techniques but they still don't look nearly as organic and delicate, IMO.
I'm imagining making thousands of tiny rings, linking them all together, and turning them into silver chain mail. Or, you could even make something that would pass for a mithril shirt that would make Gimli jealous.
Ah but what about dragons?
I think the firing process on that would be rather difficult since you're dealing with smaller surface area pieces
Also using silver wire to do that would be significantly cheaper. Though the rings might need to be soldered.
@ArtsyGamer He can afford it.
@ArtsyGamer Tru but still.
Lol sorry, couldn't resist. I didn't mean armor a person can wear. Something small. So it'll be half a mil instead of 2.
Oh, now you’ve done it - once you start with jewellery making / working with silver you’ve just opened a door to a whole new world of tools and equipment. To really shine up your silver pieces you need to get some rouge and one of those cotton buffing wheels. Working with silver is so satisfying. And soldering your board to the wave is fairly straightforward. Though you need some flux and silver solder. The main issue with silver clay is that you get a fine silver (99.9%) piece which is very soft - so it scratches easily and would be better used on something that won’t be exposed to a lot of wear and tear. Never get into a sword fight carrying a fine silver sword!
That ending was epic! Best selling UA-cam commercial ever! 🤘🤘🤘
The pen has a really cool Damascus steel look to it. The fact it's ACTUALLY made from real silver is even cooler.
Really like the way it came out, hit it out the park with the patterning 👌🏼
Jazza- spends 800 dollars
Jazza- makes a nose ring with it
"creativity is stupid." - it really is, the greatest things people have made was not taken too seriously.
Jazza looks strangely good with the nose ring, especially when combined with his spiky hair!
You are awesome Jazza! Maybe if you want to step up to the next level you should try to sculpt witg the lostwax technique. Then make mold in a crusable and cast your desing. We would love to see you do this. :)
I learn alot of drawing from you man, and you always bring me with a smile and motivation to draw, keep it up bro and epic video as always :)👍
I remember back when I was a child I was fascinated by a book that teaches you how to use pmc. Despite me not reading the exact contents of the book, I kept looking at the photos that demonstrate the steps on ways to shape and polish projects.
I love how subtle flipping us off was at 3:34 😆
This looks like so much fun! An easier way to make silver stuff 😁 And yes to the nosering! 👍🏻
I feel like Jazza could rock an earring like that, he probably did when he was younger, maybe he should try it out again.
I can't explain how much I love the pen ad you did. My first video and you have me hooked
Coolest clay ever! Thanks for taking us on that journey. It was fun 🤩
The nose-ring is definetely the new you, only it has to get a lot bigger! I love watching your videos, really entertaining!
Welcome to the world of sintered metal. Now discover the awesomeness that is metal 3D printing filament.
Also if you have some fire-grade bricks you can stack them into a small calcinator chamber, which works a bit better. Burning the clay from the outside does alright, but evenly sintering it through and through in an oven is even better. Also don't be afraid if it catches on fire--that's what you actually want! You're burning off filler material so the metal is all that's left.
This. When I started with it I used a torch, and the pieces would act like metal on the outside, but snap if I tried to bend them. Now I have a cheap little miniature kiln, and the pieces I do in there really are just the metal. Like I can bend, stamp, or hammer it out with no problem at all
Now this was pretty awesome, and sick. And I love it
Hi Jazz! As a fan and follower of the channel for years, I'm glad you didn't set the studio on fire with this video... As a jeweler and goldsmith, I can tell you that you did something amazing! I have some suggestions for you: using an oxidizer instead of paint, in pieces with engravings or textures, it has an incredible effect; you can easily solder the board to the wave using silver solder; if you want to keep the silver shiny, without darkening, have it bathed in rhodium.
Great videos jazza, going through some struggles rn and could definitely use your videos to help
Hey Jazza!!! I was wondering if you could try using your art skills to create a stop motion puppet. I know you have dabbled with it in the past, and as an animator, I would love to see it!
your videos are so satisfying
This is really cool. Clay has never been my thing, but I still love watching clay being molded
You need to use silver solder to connect the surfboard to the wave. I recommend looking at either northernmudlarks (they turn their finds into jewelry/sculptures using metal) or Jodie boo who uses it in her art and jewellery
I love Alex and Gail. They make lovely jewelry with essentially junk that’s been lost for decades.
Hi there,so nice you found silver clay! My son sent the link to me for I work with silverclay a lot. Some of the things you are trying could be done a lot easier... But maybe you like to experiment yourself..
But I'm open to questions!
Yes septum ring looks great. I need the "I think I made it work" while flipping the bird as a gif
That is a very cool pen!! Nice work!
The piercing suits you surprisingly! 👍
Ps. Black magic. I do not use it (am no creator etc) but I advertise it to creator friends and they are very satisfied!
I couldn't get a jazzy box but at least I get to watch some jazz art
Watching Jazza forging a ring is better than watching Amazon's series "The Rings of Power"
I never expected to see you doing a video on something I was literally using today at work as a jeweller, but a pleasant surprise!
I've never been this early..
Congratulations

This stuff seems pretty cool!
Happy Easter everyone
Jazza YES that new look 🤣 I’ve always wanted to try this stuff but I needed to know if it was right for me I think it is! Great job jazza!
