@@Sonnix07 yes, destroying an entire civilization including innocent people who knew nothing about Carol was cruel. But her resentment towards the supreme intelligence was justified. Plus she didn't anticipate or realize the outcome will be that gruesome and she admitted it herself. Imagine being kidnapped and having your memories extracted (almost like mental manipulation, abuse or torture) feels like gaslighting. It's not a good experience if you know what it feels like. It's a very cruel and traumatic experience you can't hold in for long cuz it can destroy the victim's soul. This is a case of Ying Yang (the good in the evil and the evil in the good)

@@Sonnix07 it's what storm said, and also Carol didn't cause the destruction of Hala *on purpose* . Her main objective was to weaken the Kree Empire and to destroy the Supreme Intelligence. The 30 year civil war + the destruction of their ecosystem + the death of their star were things she didn't predict, nor want. It's more like an anti-hero journey rather than a true hero or villain one.

Always appreciate seeing an analysis that does it's best to not be biased against a stellar character.
Carol, throughout the comics, tends to struggle less with physical defeats and more with mental defeats and ptsd, which often lead her to using her incredible power in ways that often have collateral damage. These stories though, are what give her character strength and her arcs meaning. This was central in both films she was a lead in, whether well done or not can be debated sure, but it was there. In the version of the time line you propose, I could see this being the central theme of her character in a better way than we see in the MCU. Some of Carol's most powerful moments come from these cosmic and moral dilemmas (the death of Singularity, the death of Binary, her escaping the Brood, her fighting the Phoenix Force, ect). If we had a more cosmic setting, I'm sure we could have explored these sort of things better. The Kree an Shiar are super important to the M'kraan crystal right? Which would be a great way to introduce the Phoenix Force and thus Jean Grey and the mutants. Plus Rouge, Nova, and many others are central to space stories involving her. It'd be a fantastic what if episode.
I'm always haply to see Carol on screen, let's just hope these future outings will be better. Though I doubt the hate will truly ever stop.

Great video. Now I’m wondering if Carol and her team stopped Thanos early on in his crusade then Loki never ends up on earth, never gets captured, never escapes using the Tesseract then never ends up in the TVA, no meeting Kang, no spaghettified Timely, Loki doesn’t replace the Loom.. Then maybe Spider-Man is the one who causes all the Multiversal madness in the 161. Or maybe not since the only reason he knows Doctor Strange is that they fought together against Thanos so would that mean we would avoid the Multiversal shitshow all together. Or maybe not..I dunno.. my head hurts.😂

The thing is, people act like she just attacked the Kree once when she destroyed the Sumpreme Intelligence and that was it. But she was at war with them for years. They *used to have* a huge empire, emphasis on used to. And even if they didn't show it in The Marvels, she fought them in most of the Large Magellanic Cloud until they were no longer a big empire. Some mention would have been great. But that's an issue a lot of MCU projects have. So much secretism doesn't allow small details like these to be developed (until they need to be used in a project).

Even though Ryan is right about Danvers not making good decisions. The Kree and the Skrull societies have similar behavior as humans. They both have good and evil citizens. Even if the Kree had a strong empire, their kingdom was destined to collapse eventually. The Skrulls that were on earth rebelled against humans not because they were misstreated, but because they had an ability humans didn't. And they saw an opportunity to take over the planet. All I'm saying is that all these events would've have happened regardless

The Supreme intelligence being destroyed threw the Kree into a civil war and I think we are to assume that the war, either through maybe some sort of technological firepower pollution or one of the sides in the Civil War literally destroyed the sun, that it was the war itself that destroyed their sun. Like maybe they used space nukes or something during the war and destroyed their climate and that affected their sun somehow.

Nitpick, the main villain, it's difficult to be afraid of her when she looks cute trying to look bad. As for the Nova Corps, when Quill gave the power stone, maybe they tried to make their own Captain Marvel but using multiple individuals to be empowered by it instead of just one. At some point Carol could had made contact with the Nova Corps and they learned how she was changed by the Tesseract and tried to duplicate the conditions for that power up but using multiple ppl as individuals tend to blow up like Ronan.

    • @iamlenda

It's not a nitpick; it's a major flaw of the movie. The villain never really looked dangerous or menacing

  • @jamaisj
    @jamaisj 11 місяців тому +1

    1) Danvers wasn't the only hero. The Nova Corps were busy playing police while Danvers was playing vigilante, and the Kree had their own heroes, even during their civil war. It should be noted that space was pretty safe and encounters with groups like the Ravagers or even Thanos were pretty rare.
[Thanos, BTW, had been at the conquering business for decades prior to Danvers joining the Kree. He just hadn't found the first of Infinity Gems yet.]
    2) Danvers didn't want to reform the Kree empire; she just wanted revenge. For that matter, her leading some sort of Galactic league is sort of a joke: She was never a leader in the MCU, preferring to either take orders or be completely on her own.
    3) The Red Guardian would have been a better selection than Bucky. Valkyrie was also new to Sakar; it's unlikely she had been there more than a decade or two. Keep in mind also that the Back Panther is a legacy character. Hulk had also been around for a bit.
So, if Fury had put it all the pieces together faster, and had realized that Wakanda had sleeper agents throughout the world, he could have put together an 1990s team from Red Guardian, ant Man/Wasp (the Pyms), and Black Panther (T'Challa's Dad), with Thor, Valkyrie, and a Black Widow being options, as well as various members of the Eternals.
This ignores the Inhumans and any "enhanced beings" from the pre-Coulson days of SHIELD.

Yeah, I agree that if Carol had managed to unite the galaxy by a campaign of nation building and diplomacy over decades, it might ultimately do more good, but that's not exactly her skill set. She had the confidence and headfirst attitude to solving problems that the US Air Force trains into their fighter test pilots. Strategic thinking and leadership was what she was learning in The Marvels. It's hard to imagine who could have the capacity to set up a a new galactic government while massively changing the culture of billions of groups. And then using the Kree to enforce the peace...the same people who had conquered 25% of the galaxy by force. To reference West Wing, it's like saying "they don't know what's good for them, but they'll like us when we win."

My 2 cents: CM was supposed to be released in 2016 but because the opportunity/deal MCU made with Sony about Spiderman it got not just delayed but in reality felt from relevance. It’s well known a post credit scene in the first avengers movie that would feature CM. Then again once Feige got hands on Spiderman everything about lost focus. The first movie back in 2019 IMHO looked as it belonged to “another idea/plan”( maybe the original) about Infinity Stones. That’s maybe because even Rona was there. But in 2019 , Avengers had ALREADY MOVED PAST CAROL DANVERS, and her place in the MCU never felt natural, logical or relevant. What kinda of people from the military would abandon Earth after the events of Infinity War and the Blip.
To make matters worst MCU came up with this very nonsensical “sun killing” plot. The problem is that event described in The Marvels does not fit with the spacial/galactic side of the MCU , set with the GOG movies, Thanos and Avengers movies. Ronan’s motivation on the first GOG movie would be way too diferente; Secret Invasion made canon Skrull still did not had a place to live and were coming to Earth in millions during the Blip. The Marvels plot does fit it. And the movie sucks because of it.

Did you notice the visual parallel between Captain Marvel flying into the Supreme intelligence building and the first plane hitting the World Trade Center?
In both cases the event catalyzed an empire to destroy itself, not merely through destabilizing an existing order and setting rival factions into conflict but also by setting them on a path of ever more desperate violence and cruelty.
The Kree still haven't accepted that their time as top dog is over. The same is true of the US, now irrelevant to most of the world, but still causing untold damage as its factions plot destructive paths back to prestige they'll never attain again. Neither is actually redeemed, both are still a danger to the world around them.

The whole, “Carol did this and she destroyed Supreme Intelligence, there was a civil war and then the sun went out.”
It is like, not only did they jump the shark; it doesn’t even make any sense.
Or did Carol also do something to the sun, but they forgot to include that in the movie? How did she “restart” it? Put back something she took out of it?
Otherwise, how would a civil war turn their star off? They forgot to pay the electric bill?

You're one of my favorites UA-camrs. I used to binge watch your Easter eggs videos, your theory videos, etc, but maybe what I'm about to complain isn't too much of your fault. Maybe it's the lack of shows being aired, maybe it's this platform fault for constantly changing it's algorithm, but it hurts to see such a talented writer/UA-camr/presenter and much more falling for cheap clickbaits, like "CAPTAIN MARVEL WAS WRONG!", "SPIDERMAN NO WAY HOME WAS THE WORST OF THEM ALL", among others. I'm able to understand different points of views, but this is so out of place for what you made of yourself these years prior that I can't believe you actually mean what you say in your thumbnails. Please, stop from following this trail of hard-to-believe thumbnails....

    - The best thing that Carol Danvers ever done was give Rogue super strength, durability and flight. Thanks Carol Danvers for making one of the best X-Men better. Sidenote that would be a great if MCU Rogue syphoned Captain Marvel powers for her to gain and also nerfing Carol to her normal comicbook levels.

Maybe captain marvel was always a planet or two behind thanos. Let’s pretend she heard about thanos. But not after the first half genocide but maybe the tenth. So she would be ten planets behind thanos showing up after staying to help and falling further behind. She got a break with earth. That’s being generous to her of course

The biggest flaw with the MCU captain marvel is that she isn’t a hero she’s a soldier that doesn’t respect authority. She doesn’t inspire people, everyone is just in awe of her overwhelming power.

My personal opinion.. if Captain Marvel had been an Amazing Savior of The Kree, The Skrull and had stopped Thanos … a lot of the events wouldn’t have happened and … the MCU would had to find other villains to fill their places. Also in reality that’s not really how powerful people act … they only involve themselves in smaller causes.

In Avengers: Endgame there is a glaring error on Captain Marvel's part in the final battle. Marvel is flying around with the Infinity Gauntlet IN HER HANDS, fer Christ's sake! As soon as she took it from Peter she should have said, "Oh, well, we just won!" She would slip it on and wish Thanos and his gang away. She HAD to know what it was and was certainly strong enough to use it without getting hurt. Also, she's brave enough to use it even if she thought it would kill her. There are ZERO reasons why she wouldn't have used it to save the day. They should have had anyone else take the Gauntlet from Peter.

I mean, when you destabalize a whole empire by taking off the head, you kinda get that trauma added to your baggage and might not jump at next chance to "go for the head" again.
That's my headcannon for not dealing directly with Thanos and with other entities. She deals with the consequences now and is focused on attempting to prevent more death when disasters are happening. She isn't healing, she is jumping from one problem to the next until she gets an SOS from Nick Fury which reconnects her with Earth again (which she has been avoiding so hard, using every excuse possible). The very definition avoid avoidance.
So during Infinity War, her focus is entirely on Thanos because of the whole SNAP. After that though, she goes back into space, comes back and contacts earth on a more regular schedule but avoids the Rambeau because existential guilt and trauma. When the random teleporting gets in the way of her avoidance jumping from one problem to the next she is forced to face and VOICE her issues for the first time in decades. Her "healing" was badly portrayed and should have been a lot more deserved rather than "one off conversations that solves the topic" but it still happened in a way.
ALL OF THIS, I don't mind the 30 years :p

Wanda, Carole and she hulk are all basically villains even of their own stories. Nothing about them is inspiring…hell Photon basically justifies Wanda taking an entire town (including children) hostage. How tf are we supposed to champion terrorists? Iron man messed up with ultron but at least tried to atone for his actions and died for the universe. Nothing about those three feels heroic, their mistakes lead to more entitlement and more mistakes.
