I think because portuguese is his mother tongue, when he said a personal question he means a question that comes from HIS person, not something that is a secret or something.
@@LucasFerreira-qx6kr you are 100% correct, i'm brazilian and he meant "I'm asking a question that comes from a doubt that i Bernardo have" and not "I want to ask you a question about a private matter on your personal life"
That’s why he’s the best. He trains 3x a day 6 days a week lol. That’s why he makes it look easy! But he also happens to be a great instructor. I love his instructionals.
He's also showing this on a fully compliant partner that isn't resisting at all. It's the reality of pretty much all jiu-jitsu instruction. It's always harder than it looks.
@@DB-23 Yes. I am aware, thanks lol. I am saying things are always harder than they look in a demo/during instruction. Wasn't saying they don't work lmfao.
I started working on this months ago and at first I was like wtf. It felt kind of unnatural. Even after just a few months I'm much better at it and it's absolutely miserable for the person on the bottom. Gordon and John are phenomenal and absolute geniuses when it comes to grappling.
This is incredible, I’ve specifically been learning body lock from Gordon’s guard passing as well as John’s and can’t get enough of it. Thursday and Sunday I’ve been drilling leg locks and body lock passing specifically so this couldn’t have come at a better time.
@@ninobach7456this is one of my common problems with passing in general. It's natural human instinct to want to step over to pass, and consequently for them to frame. I'm sure there's better ways to deal with it than how I do, but with the other two options posed here (shelf or split) I automatically am thinking to work more on these since they're not as common which means they won't be as recognized and practiced in defense. My thoughts anyway. Maybe someone more experienced will chime in as well
The amount of knowledge on jiu jitsu positions and leverages and concepts and principles of this gringo is just fucking amazing. He doesn't just do awesome jiu jitsu, he explains every fucking move he does.
After years of watching your interviews, I just noticed you're running a business by giving away so much great instructionals. I will purchase a video very soon and thank you, Bernardo!
Lol. Dont want to be the judge on that one, but I really like that he includes rolling footage, because it's great actually see the move with counters and counter-counters
Gordon speaks in a way of enlightment, as if things are obvious and natural, there's no rigid structure, he just flows. This is what bruce lee ment by "be water my friend"
Curiosity question if anyone can help....cuz i am a white belt at body lock style of passing......@5:45 are you able to pull off a peterson roll if you use your left arm on their left and scissor your legs while going belly down? (On anyone except Gordon?) Lol
I can pass with the body lock nearly everytime but run into the issue of clearing the frames when they turn towards my pass side before I can settle into side control. Anyone have this issue ?
His techniques are very frustrating to counter. His body lock passing is more dynamic than other instructionals on the topic as well. More of a dilemma creation than a pass. It’s a perfect response to the leg lock game. The big challenge against better people is controlling the inside space well enough to get this depth of penetration and a good lock. But that’s the fight. Lachlan Giles does a good job on this topic as well.
Guilherme Mendes was a pressure passing monster at that weight back in the day. Good guy to watch if you want to see how a lighter guy does it at a high level.
Personally I stuff a hook first and they can't get to full guard, but if I have the grip and they do get to something like full guard I just Sao Paolo pass without letting my bodylock go
You are suppossed to prevent that. You'll see in the instructional how your knee position will compress your opponents foot to his butt often times making that difficult. If your opponent manages to put you in closed guard that kills your bodylock and you have to let go stand up break the clsoed guard and start all over again.
I think the idea is that your hip pressure is keeping their butterfly hooks inside until you’re ready to get around them. I can see how it would be a problem tho
im confused on how you don't get swept from the high tripod body lock, like especially if your opponent is a lot bigger than you can't they just throw you over with their legs?
Well first of all you should just avoid being in closed guard. You can't body lock from closed guard effectively (save a few niche techniques) but you should just avoid closed guard then go for the body lock whenever the opportunity presents itself from open guard. Or stuff their legs and drop into butterfly if you want to force it
Bernardo we need to get Gordon Ryan and Khabib to roll to see what’s better. Sambo or Jiu Jitsu. I think both are phenomenal grapplers but I think Gordon takes the W.
@@REXAZOR JT Torres would be a good match up against Khabib. But they’d have to make a rule set against leg locks because that would be no fun if he just gets heel hooked right at the start.
In a submission only grappling match, Gordon can probably tap him. In a points format similar to ADCC, it may be close but Gordon still probably wins. Once you add strikes in, Khabib smeshes him without mercy. Khabib's grappling game is amplified by the threat of smesh. You get stuck between choosing between getting punched in the face or choked out. Choked out is usually the better choice.
Depends on where you made the mistake and what type of bodylock pass you were going for. Usually when bodylock passing you want to draw them in towards you and connect their heels to their butt as tightly as possible, this elimiates their ability to shoot the triangle. If you base out with your hand or try to stuff a leg with your hand you risk being triangled.
Probably because he's not MMA fighter / boxer making tons of money? So he's trying to make a little extra by filming instructionals 🤔 Or because bjj consumers usually tend to be mid- and upper classes who have more disposable income to buy fan products, where in other sports the consumer base is more balanced across the society? 🤔
