It’s a beautiful solo, but the greatest? Not even close. There is NO “ONE” greatest guitar solo, but David Gilmore is definitely in the top tier of best guitarists with 50+ others for sure.
One of the greats...some of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Glen Cambell solos were every bit as good. Love David though..so soulful..he says more with one note than most do with a dozen.
When I was learning guitar, my teacher told me what makes David's solos "speak" so deeply to us. He explained that David composes his solos with a sentence-structure so that the phrasing of his notes hit your heart like complete sentences. Your mind can't comprehend the words of the sentences, but your heart feels the emotions of the sentences. David not only tells a story with his voice with his lyrics, he makes his guitar tell part of the story with the notes of his solos as words forming sentences. The result is that your mind and heart get a double-whammy effect with the song's messaging.
In the second solo you can actually hear the guitar crying "Glitterball" during that part of the solo, and even "Open" during the reveal. Gilmore is a genius.
They were a must. Pink Floyd is no more. Even if David and Roger were to become friends again the band is done. I saw a video of David recently singing Wish You Were Here, he can't hit the notes any more. His voiced has aged so much it's pretty much done.. It was extremely sad and hard to watch one of my heroes struggling to hit some of the high notes which aren't really that high in that song...
I saw this concert twice, on May 23 and 24, 1994, Montreal Olympic Stadium. My employer (Labatt Breweries of Canada) was the sponsor for the three shows in Montreal, they were offering employees discounted tickets, in addition to a draw of a few dozen tickets. I bought mine for May 23 and I won those (a pair) for May 24. Some people have asked me, "Why are you going to see this show twice?" When they finally saw the DVD of this show a few years later, they understood why I was there twice.
I first saw Pink Floyd live in 1969 at our local Friday fight night venue...Over 200 drunk lads stood open mouthed listening to a psychedelic light and sound show that seemed to come from another planet! Unforgettable night, unforgettable band whose brilliant talents never fade...Stunning now as then!
Welcome to the Pink Floyd rabbit hole. The best way to describe Pink Floyd is the best band to ever step on stage or studio. Their music is designed so that time will never catch up to it. My advice is to listen to everything they produced.
30 years later, and now aged 78, David Gilmour is currently on tour in the USA with a new solo album. In Los Angeles right now, and in New York from 4th to 10th November. His new song "Scattered" is fantastic, as is "Between Two Points" which is sung by his daughter, Romany.
David Gilmour is an introverted person. His emotions come out through his guitar and that's why he's such a great player and his solos touch the very heart of the soul.
Thirty years after seeing them perform this in Pittsburgh, I still get tears in my eyes. If it wasn't one of your three suggestions, Shine On You Crazy Diamond is a must listen too.
I saw this show four times at Earl's Court in 1994, including the first night of the run when the seating collapsed. Given this was 30 years ago it's difficult for younger people to realise how technically advanced this production was for the time. The lighting was beautiful and the sound stupendous and clear - even today, I've not seen anything in the intervening decades that surpasses what I saw at those four shows, for quality, visual effect and sheer emotional power. Seems like today's productions throw everything possible at it within the budget, but don't create anything so stunning that makes you almost weep at what you're seeing and hearing like I did at Earl's Court.
Amazing guitar solo from an amazing guitarist . I don't know how many reactions I watched of this version of song and wasn't till a few weeks ago I realized Gilmour wasn't even playing his guitar except for his solo's.
Likewise, I was also there and although I have seen many bands over many years this was by far the best that I ever witnessed and we had seats quite a way back from the front but centrally and it was just awesome! Plus they played the whole of my favourite ever album Dark Side of the Moon during the second part of the set.
Just came back from Gilmour concert at the Hollywood Bowl. He played this song at the end. Lot's of lasers above our head and amazing guitarwork. It was magical.
As I mention in other reactions to this song, I saw Pink Floyd in 1994, at the Kansas City version of this same concert. My family and I drove across the state for it, at Arrowhead Stadium. I was kinda new to Pink Floyd at the time, but the concert was amazing, and this song in particular was one of the high points of my life, and for the rest of the decade, I could give myself goosebumps at will by thinking of this song.
Now that’s how you listen to Pink Floyd, just sit back and let the music flow through you. You have now become comfortably numb. The best band ever with the best guitarist ever what more could you ask for.
Unfortunately i only got to see Pink Floyd play live once but those memories will stay with me for as long as i live, absolutely incredible on every level, ✌❤🐦.
Carrier Dome, Syracuse NY in 1994. I've probably seen about 500 concerts in my very lucky life and whenever someone asks which one was the best I always say this, and RUSH's R30 at Radio City Music Hall. If you don't get a little emotional hearing that solo, you are missing something in your heart.
Yeah, that dude, Gilmour! I hope you continue your journey with Pink Floyd. The entire Pulse concert is reaction worthy so, dive in! I'll be here for it. Luv ya, Miz RHN!
This is musical and visual ecstasy. I was lucky enough to see the show in 1994 at the Strahov stadium in Prague, together with appr. 130.000 other spectators. Leaving the stadium everybody was quiet, only after some time we were able to ask ourselves : "What the heck we just witnessed?" I still have ticket from the show. Laminated.
Glad to see you're one of the very few reactors I've seen do the uncut version of this live performance which will stand the test of time. So from one redhead to another, thank you so much.
Well, the uncut version hasn't stood the test of time at all, which is why it's never been released on physical media (video, DVD, or Blu-ray). Gimour wasn't happy with the (obvious) bum notes he played in the original PPV, so he had them edited out in future releases.
Great reaction, not many have done the full version, so thank you for that. Hard to believe it's been 30 since I saw this tour. What many that never saw them live realize is they had speakers on the side and back so you got surround sound. I understand you have to pause these, so to avoid any future wrath, never pause a David Gilmour solo and you'll be fine. Anything from Pulse concert will blow you away, so enjoy.
Seen that show twice at Olympic stadium in Montreal! The light show was the best i have ever seen, and yes, that guitar solo is the greatest in rock history!!!
This was my favorite Pink Floyd song for years, before Wish You Were Here took the lead. The ending guitar solo is one of the absolute best in rock, on par with Layla.
Oops 😮 I believe you forgot some pauses!!?? Darn! 😬 Never got to see the Floyd. Seems they played L.A. more on one tour than Portland Oregon their entire Career!! 😢 Oh well. Great episode your Redness!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🎸🤟🏼
I've been a Floyd fan since discovering Dark Side at age 15, that said I don't go overboard on everything they've done, some of the early psychodelia stuff they did is best described as obscure. All their music post Dark Side is excellent but sometimes an acquired taste, their musical and lyrical abilities are legendary, almost everyone can place themselves into a Pink Floyd lyric and say 'Yes' that's me, that describes my lot.
A Delicate Sound of Thunder is the commercial recording of the A Momentary Lapse of Reason Tour ( I saw them on that tour ) , Pulse is the commercial recording of the Division Bell tour .
"Intense and beautiful and wow!" Yes, indeed. I wasn't at this show, but I was at a very similar show outdoors at Camp Randal stadium in Madison Wisconsin the year before this show, I think? Pretty much the same light show, and to say that I was in awe with the combination of this solo and the disco ball opening up, is an understatement. I turned to my friend and pointed at the light inside the disco ball and said, "I think they captured God in there." Note that I don't do drugs at all, or even drink, I was stone cold sober when I made that observation. Well... as sober as one can be after hearing this piece of music, in any case. 😄
I saw this concert two nights in a row at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal, on May 23 and 24, 1994. The next concert of the tour was at Camp Randall Stadium, in Madison on July 3, 1994, in front of a crowd of 60,960 people. You can even find a full amateur video of the Madison show on UA-cam by searching: Pink Floyd - Live Madison, Wisconsin, USA | July 3rd, 1994 | FULL SHOW It's really an amateur video, as you can see by the quality of the image and sound. By the way, you share the same name as a very great renovation expert who produces TV shows in Canada. (Holmes on Homes) on HGTV.
Comfortably numb is from "The Wall" the opening track of the album is addressed to an unborn baby "so you thought you'd like to go to the show" the show is a metaphore for life. The album presents a number of traumatic events that cause the hero (Pink) to withdraw from life. Each additional withdrawl is referred to as a 'brick in the wall'. Comfortably numb is where Pink has finally completed his wall and becone disassociated from life (the show) and he exalts that life can no longer reach him or hurt him... "there is no pain you are receding..." , but he is aware that he is missing something "when I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse out of the corner of my eye, I turned to look but it was gone, I cannot put my finger on it now, the child has grown, the dream has gone and I have become comfortably numb."
Even if it's not for reaction you should watch the whole PULSE concert. I wasn't a big PF fan but after watching the concert I watch it every chance I get!
Red, the Floyd is such an emotion, one of the best groups of all time, I love them. Dany once said that this song in this same concert did something to her soul, it stuck with her. You can tell that she channels David in her solos. I love that you're going with this concert. Love this band, cheers Red.
was at one of these shows......it was the best concerts ive ever seen in 100s of shows.....by far.....all of Pulse is a winner for live stuff.....but if you want your mind blown, do "Great Gig in the Sky" from Pulse....the greatest song ever sung without words....dont be scared of Floyd....they dont bite.....lol
Tripping on acid at the Minnesota planetarium Pink Floyd light show was one of the craziest/awesome moments of my childhood! This song is everything! 😂😂❤❤
Floyd was never 'my' band, but there are a few songs of theirs I adore. This is one of them. This probably contains my all-time favorite guitar solo of all time, but if not that, then certainly Gilmour's. Alex Lifeson has also cited this solo as his all-time favorite guitar solo. He voice was so smooth and warm against the backdrop of Waters voice of angst and crisis, that the two often presented a wonderful musical conflict - which is probably in part to what bled over to their personal conflicts. To me, Gilmour will always be the voice of that band and quite frankly I enjoyed it more when he was leading it without Waters. It was more approachable and concise to me. But that's just one man's view and most Floyd fans would probably wanna slap me. As a drummer, I never really understood just how good Nick Mason's touch and subtelty is in his approach to playing. For me, I once had to learn a set of Floyd songs and at the time I was playing a lot of Police, Rush, Yes music that was much more involved technically. But I found trying to 'get' his approach was most challenging. I don't know if I ever achieved it, but I walked away with a very valuable lesson about feel, versus technique and never should a drummer be judged again for simply possessing one aspect of playing more than the other. Mason is a master of his kraft. As is Gilmoure. As is this song. A masterpeice.
Lovely reaction to a great song, that works outside of The Wall story line, as it does of course within the full album context. As a mad aside, redheadedneighbor, just seen your animal toys on the cabinet to your left, in your video. When I was at Live 8 Hyde Park (which Pink Floyd reformed to headline), I saw REM, I kid you not, on one of the stage speakers was an array of very similar animals, mostly dinosaurs. We were right near the front and I captured it with a quality camera, only noticing when I uploaded the pic!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! You did not break THE CARDINAL RULE of never Ever, Ever interrupting a David Gilmore guitar solo ❤. Your reaction was wonderful. This entire concert is the ABSOLUTE Epitome of perfection! Please react to more. Love your videos ❤.
a really great reaction to the greatest guitar solo ever - and I was lucky enough to be at this exact concert Earls Court London Thursday 20th October 1994.
There are no words to describe this solo - other worldly - maybe does it, who knows. Excellence at it finest. The whole Pulse concert is on a level few bands ever sniff and that's not puttin' any of them down.
I was at that concert and 2 others that week. This was the 2nd encore - by the time they go to this, they had been playing for just over two hours. A friendly word of advice - when you are watching Pink Floyd live, please keep yoru eyes open. The band is as much visual as it is sonic and if you close your eyes you will miss something. At least you did not pause THAT solo!
100% agree. There are many reviewers of this song out there that close their eyes during this performance and so miss so much. The visuals here are just as important as the music!
This will always be my favorite solo because of how heavenly it is. I drop what I'm doing when this part of the concert starts. If I ever pick up a strat, I'm gonna learn this.
Wow, first time hearing the uncut version of this.song and I didn't want it to end. I think looking at the sun shining on you as the song drew to a crescendo, can we say you've seen the light now about Pink Floyd? 😊
The very early stuff is pretty out there, but still wonderful. If you listen to Dark Side of the Moon, it should be done all together if you really want to get the full effect. Recommend "Fearless" and "Astronomy Domine"
I've lost count of the times I've heard Comfortably Numb. But every new time i here that second guitar solo it has the exact same amazing emotional effect on me as the first time I ever heard it.
FYI: "Pulse 1994" at Earl's Court> 14 days in a row sold out ( Their last concert ever) 200,000 watts of power, 128 wireless speakers ,3 200 tin stages, 53 semis to move. Disco Ball is an FU to music critics which said they will not sell cause they din't play 4 minute dance music. Which they got yery little radio time outside of Dark Side of the Moon (No MTV back then)' Pulse was the second biggest grossing entertainment in 1994. Crowd : people sit and listen to their music except 1 song " Run Like Hell". Back then you listen by sitting at home with friends and a big fatty.
I was so lucky to see this tour in 1994 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada at Commonwealth Stadium. It absolutely the BEST guitar solo in rock and roll. Red, you should check out the song "Great Gig In The Sky" from the same tour. It will blow your mind!!
I was fortunate to see “the wall” performance live in nyc in 79 and it was the most amazing concert ever but this is by far Gilmore’s greatest performance of this song! Glad you got to experience this masterpiece!❤️
Pink Floyd's fandom can get a little rabid and unnecessarily at times I think, sorry you were subjected to that. I am glad you decided to give it another go Red. I have enjoyed them for a long long time, a big part of my formative years musically. Gilmour's talent is something I have tried to emulate for years and years on guitar. You were definitely put on the right track with the Pulse Concert version 🤘in my opinion. Closing ones eyes and just losing yourself in the magic especially Dave's solo's is definitely the way to enjoy them I think. Glad you revisited this legendary band and enjoyed them as much as you did.
First, I'm here for the ..Smile...then your reaction... and I am confident it will all be good 👍 This piece has always been at the top of my list of greatest Solos...there are a few out there ...but this one sings in a language that makes me more and more emotional as time and life go on ... I feel the unspoken words sung to me...❤
Notice how, in Gilmour's big solo, the audience was absolutely still. Until near the very end, it was like they were at a classical music concert. So focused, just listening carefully. That was beautiful.
The greatest live guitar solo ever played....
amen
It’s a beautiful solo, but the greatest? Not even close. There is NO “ONE” greatest guitar solo, but David Gilmore is definitely in the top tier of best guitarists with 50+ others for sure.
@@stevenewcomer8837 So he is 51 ? come one !
One of the greatest!
Gary Moore The Messiah Will Come Again tops this as does
Gary Moore's solo in Empty Rooms Live in Stockholm 1987.
😊😎🎸🇺🇦🇬🇧
One of the greats...some of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Glen Cambell solos were every bit as good. Love David though..so soulful..he says more with one note than most do with a dozen.
Congratulations on witnessing the greatest Guitar Solo in modern history. 🎉
Pink Floyd's concerts are a must because they are so visually perfect
They were a must. Pink Floyd is no more. Even if David and Roger were to become friends again the band is done. I saw a video of David recently singing Wish You Were Here, he can't hit the notes any more. His voiced has aged so much it's pretty much done.. It was extremely sad and hard to watch one of my heroes struggling to hit some of the high notes which aren't really that high in that song...
Your comment that David Gilmour ‘s guitar solo “visited all the planets” summed up this spectacular performance perfectly. Very nice!
I can count on one hand the greatest solos of ALL TIME.....and this is one of them!
I can count it on one finger. I can put my finger on it now.
PINK FLOYD is the greatest band of all time! Hands down! " Comfortably Numb" is their greatest song! Absolutely LOVE THIS! ❤❤❤❤❤❤ 👩🏻🦰👩🏻🦰👩🏻🦰👩🏻🦰
I saw this concert twice, on May 23 and 24, 1994, Montreal Olympic Stadium. My employer (Labatt Breweries of Canada) was the sponsor for the three shows in Montreal,
they were offering employees discounted tickets, in addition to a draw of a few dozen tickets.
I bought mine for May 23 and I won those (a pair) for May 24. Some people have asked me, "Why are you going to see this show twice?"
When they finally saw the DVD of this show a few years later, they understood why I was there twice.
Same for me a few nights later in Edmonton..... One of the best shows I've ever seen in my life!!!!!!!!
I first saw Pink Floyd live in 1969 at our local Friday fight night venue...Over 200 drunk lads stood open mouthed listening to a psychedelic light and sound show that seemed to come from another planet! I’ve been loving this song since 1979. I think this is my favorite version.
I agree, like yourself I have listened to nearly every version and this but this one slaps the hardest !! Goosebumps never lie !
Thirty years after seeing them perform this in Pittsburgh, I still get tears in my eyes. If it wasn't one of your three suggestions, Shine On You Crazy Diamond is a must listen too.
Like RUSH & YES Pink Floyd is one of those progressive rock bands that is fine like wine .
Someone once asked a guitar what it wanted for Christmas. It replied " David Gilmour".
I saw this show four times at Earl's Court in 1994, including the first night of the run when the seating collapsed. Given this was 30 years ago it's difficult for younger people to realise how technically advanced this production was for the time. I’m born in 1979 and this my above all favourite guitar solo in this world. My son was born in 2009 and this is his favourite guitar solo.
Going to NYC next week, daddy-daughter trip. We will be in Madison Square Garden the 5th for David Gilmour. Bucket list show for sure ✅️
Does that make David Fascist? Just kidding.
Amazing guitar solo from an amazing guitarist . I don't know how many reactions I watched of this version of song and wasn't till a few weeks ago I realized Gilmour wasn't even playing his guitar except for his solo's.
Pink Floyd does the best light shows by a mile!!
I love being able to say I was at that gig.
Wow. I've seen Pink Floyd twice, once in 1969 and again in 1972 but this would have been the ultimate concert to attend. You are very lucky.
Likewise, I was also there and although I have seen many bands over many years this was by far the best that I ever witnessed and we had seats quite a way back from the front but centrally and it was just awesome! As you should
Just came back from Gilmour concert at the Hollywood Bowl. He played this song at the end. Lot's of lasers above our head and amazing guitarwork. It was magical.

This was the first song they played as an encore !!!! Shows what the rest of the gig was like !!!!
Actually the first song in this 3 song encore was Wish You Were Here
Great fun watching you experience this incredible recording. I was at that concert and it was one of the highlights of my life.
Now that’s how you listen to Pink Floyd, just sit back and let the music flow through you. You have now become comfortably numb.
The best band ever with the best guitarist ever what more could you ask for.
They are SoooooooGood, I could listen to them and Nightwish all day, everyday....
Unfortunately i only got to see Pink Floyd play live once but those memories will stay with me for as long as i live, absolutely incredible on every level, ✌❤🐦.
My "all time" #1 song 🎵💜💜
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
She did such a great job on the light show.
I truly appreciate blow amount of comments I never understood why reviewers didn't review them after the song was over

Best night of my life (with clothes on).
Pissing down with rain on the way home.
Same here, I was 19. My mind was blown that night, I don't think i've ever fully recovered from it and suspect I never will I, lol.
🎸🌈🪩🤯
@Obi-J Hehe I know what you mean
Try On the Turning Away live from the Delicate Sound of Thunder tour 1988. Amazing.
Thank you for this one 💋
Always brings me to tears.
Great reaction, not many have done the full version, so thank you for that. Hard to believe it's been 30 since I saw this tour. Great Reaction now Sorrow from same Pulse concert also On The Turning Away live 1988
Hey beautiful! So glad you gave Pink Floyd another chance.
This was my favorite Pink Floyd song for years, before Wish You Were Here took the lead. The ending guitar solo is one of the absolute best in rock, on par with Layla.
Simply a Master at Work!
Wow, 1st comment and Comfortably Numb reaction, doesn’t get better than this! Great reaction as always ❤

@teknotony Thanks!
My favorite performance as well.
Thanks and I am glad you opened your eyes and caught the visuals at the end:)
No better band or tour, this nukes anything from the 21st century!

Hi there Red. Another great reaction. I hope you are having a wonderful day.
great reaction, id recommend that you try COMING BACK TO LIFE from the same pulse concert,
im sure you will enjoy it aswell as many others
HOW DO YOU NOT! THE GREATEST SONG OF ALL TIME ( AFTER "DREAMS" BY THE CRANBERRIES OF COURSE) ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
lol!
A reaction video is just that a reaction. Your personal feelings. So you do you and let the critics go elsewhere. I like what you have to say.
Welcome to the Pink Floyd Appreciation Society. Your life has now been enriched.
PERFECTION!!❤️🐐🎸🔥
a really great reaction to the greatest guitar solo ever - and I was lucky enough to be at this exact concert Earls Court London Thursday 20th October 1994.
Not a big fan of Pink Floyd but that was an excellent live version. The sort of song to put headphones on close your eyes and relax to.
I saw them two days in a row when they played at Rose Bowl on April 15th and April 16th. It was worth seeing them again
Great! You gotta do more Pink Floyd!!!
Wow, first time hearing the uncut version of this.song and I didn't want it to end.
I think looking at the sun shining on you as the song drew to a crescendo, can we say you've seen the light now about Pink Floyd? 😊
Now do 'Run Like Hell' from that same show, if you haven't already. it will BLOW YOUR MIND.
The very early stuff is pretty out there, but still wonderful. If you listen to Dark Side of the Moon, it should be done all together if you really want to get the full effect. Recommend "Fearless" and "Astronomy Domine"
And I was one of the lucky few to be there in person. Whatta show!
Didn’t know about the disco ball bit of info and makes a lot of sense. Thanks!
How is it that an instrument has a soul and can join with a human soul?🎼🌹
❤ 👉 Pink Floyd.. e1s fav song! 😂
Absolutely love this song.
I was fortunate to see “the wall” performance live in nyc in 79 and it was the most amazing concert ever but this is by far Gilmore’s greatest performance of this song! Glad you got to experience this masterpiece!❤️
Thank you for watching the full version unlike every other reactor on here! ❤
You were definitely put on the right track with the Pulse Concert version
🤘in my opinion. Closing ones eyes and just losing yourself in the magic especially Dave's solo's is definitely the way to enjoy them I think.
Glad you revisited this legendary band and enjoyed them as much as you did.
Great reaction 🎉❤
Next: same concert, but „High hopes“!
Got to see the Division Bell Tour second row center at A.S.U. stadium in Az. Incredible show.
Wonderful reaction! ❤
Excellent presentation, thank you 🙂❤
It's Davids phrasing and economy of playing that makes him very special.
Goosebumps. Epic!
There's a reason Pink Floyd edited this version, yet people still wanna listen to unapproved footage.
I was at the show the night this was filmed, a show that will stay with me till my dying day. Also seen them 6 weeks prior to that in Rotterdam.
Fun fact.. Dany of The Warning said this was her go to all-time favorite performance/guitar solo ever.. 🌎✌️
