PPL are stupid as F XD Luffy 3 Haki Bonnie 0 haki - Luffy he can fight Bonnie ye not even this is only that she will be free thats all she even if is in gear 5 she cant fight admiral or some strong guys
I get way people are upset because bonney being able to temperarly being able to copy devil fruit powers is . Something that can easily get out of hand and it does take away from each devil fruits uniqueness . But as long as there are strict limits/costs and we don't see her doing things like putting multiple timelines to gather . To have all devil fruit powers I will over look this slightly game breaking fruit.
Liam, very important. While Vegapunk says 'like the legend of Elbaf, Joyboy could stretch and contract' The sky island cloud is stretching out in front of chopper who looks like a cloud after being stretched out by Saturn. The nature of Nika is clouds. Chopper's rage mode at Enies Lobby is likely a paralell of Joyboy's rampage. That is to say, I think Joyboy had the hito hito no mi, and was an animal. This animal wears a shower cap to hide it's genetic relation to Buccaneers. Under the cap are bear ears made of hair. I guarantee it. The most prominent Alabasta animal. The Dugong. If Luffy was an animal, he'd be a Dugong. The figurehead of the Noah is a Dugong fist.
Agree Oda made the worst turn in the manga that doesn't make any sense . I wanted WOke stuff out of ma manga , but looks like its not ... When you read manga for 20 years and watch how hard it was for Luffy whos actualy special in this story to get to the point to get to tthis point and use gear 5 ... And all 1000 chapters just go to trash becasue theres a woke character whos able to use it like ezzzzz. It should take alot of power and exp to get from gear 1 to gear 5 YEARS . She can copy power of fruits but how SHE CAN USE IT GEAR 5 right away . She has to lear gear 1 first and etc . Oda trash eater
@@gavrilovdenis153not everything is woke xD Also she doesn't have the experience of luffy so calm down. She just has the flexibility and expansion stuff.
how does no one else noticed that the giants say that the drums of liberation are “festival rhythm” it seems like they already know that exact beat means freedom and fun and use it while celebrating
Also when the drums of liberation kicked in, when the sea started changing, people’s reactions seemed as if they thought “oh, so this is what made the sea levels rise”
Some poeple: The perfect ending to Bonney and kuma's tragic story, the culmination of their suffering and the sweet release from it. Other people: "It doesn't fit my head cannon for how strong all characters are supposed to be therefore it's trash." Let. Oda. Cook.
Most controversy I’ve seen lately with One Piece are people wondering why it doesn’t function like a conventional Shonen. It’s “too goofy” the characters aren’t serious enough, etc. I think we have a sufficient amount of Angry Protags, let One Piece be the goofy pirate manga it was always presenting itself as.
also wtf? they havn't really being paying attention if they think that.. Onpiece has often been very serious and will continue to juggle between goofy / fun and dark / serious stuff
he burnt it he cooked too much imagine if Luffy just got out of a 2 year timeskip learning observation haki, just for bonnie to see him and immediately have observation due to "freedom" 😂
He can have all the fun he wants, but this particular instance of fun resulted in bad writing that made overall story worse. But yeah, he can do that, its his story. He can run it into the ground if he wants to. Not that this single moment did that. Its just a step in that direction
I think part of the controversy boils down to what you think Gear 5 is meant to be. Because a lot of people see it as strength, that the reward for Luffy’s years of hard work and training is being SUPER STRONG and POWERFUL and he can SOLO ANYONE IN THE VERSE. But like, in my opinion Gear 5’s purpose isn’t just to make Luffy strong, it’s that it makes him strong enough to protect the freedom of those he cares about. I mean hell the whole REASON he learned Haki was because he FAILED to protect Ace. Gear 5 is about inspiring hope, about bringing light in darkness, and bringing a smile to the faces of those suffering under oppression. Luffy inspiring a little girl on the brink of despair to fulfil her childhood fantasy is EXACTLY WHAT Gear 5 is meant to be. To me, this doesn’t take away from his reward, this IS his reward. The power to bring a smile to the face of a friend in need. To free them from oppression. To invite them to imagine a future where they can be free. To be able to share his joy and freedom with those he cares about. That is what Luffy has been working so hard to accomplish, and helping Bonney become Nika by restoring her hope is the EXACT THING he’s been training all these years to do.
7:25 That community poll is super telling and gives me so much more optimism. Tbh, I cannot believe just how LOUD that TINY minority of "fans" can be and just how obnoxious and annoying they are!
I think people are missing out on the point of Bonney taking on Luffy's Gear 5th form. She remembers Luffy saying "This is the form when I am most free" and Bonney is finally at her "free-ist", so she wants to display that by mimicking Luffy's Gear 5th. It's great way for Oda to display that freedom.
This even works with her earlier attacks! In the previous chapters she, in a battle with marines asked “gimme a nika-ish future” and had to use her own limited Knowledge on nika. That being the legend where he’s said to be a stretchy guy who fights without a care

Everyone keeps talking how this transformation invalidates Luffy's efforts, when it's pretty clear that the only reason Bonney can transform is because Luffy did it first, it's his accomplishment. This isn't about strength and who "deserves" to get the power up, it's about Luffy sharing his freedom to everyone else thanks to the power he achieved through his hardships and efforts.
@@pard2397 , Himwari is going to be the next female Hokage after Tsunede because Hokages are born into their positions of power, and they don't train to become Kage Level threats, and if they did Guy or Lee would've been the next Kage after Naruto.
I like this angle, because with Bonnie's power working on herself and OTHERS- it opens the door for her giving OTHER people Nika forms- Imagine the entire strawhat crew in Nika mode, with their own twists on how to use the power, making them stronger, but limited by their own values and desires, Nami leveraging things like that lightning catch to do more weather nonsense, Sanji pulling off looney toons style stealth etc.
Everyone acting like Luffy wasn't a 17 year old with no experience defeating warriors in their primes with years of experience behind their backs like Axe Hand Morgan, Don Krieg, Arlong, Crocodile, Lucci, etc... Imagine being 48 years old Katakuri, a yonko commander, and losing to a kid that showed up out of nowhere 2 years before meanwhile you have been a pirate all your life. Yeah, if Bonney's "power up" is unfair then Luffy's whole journey is unfair as well
Something I think that is being kind of overlooked maybe is that from the one time we see it happening, a Devil Fruit's reincarnation tends to happen in a nearby fruit. We know that Shanks stole the fruit from the WG. What if the way they came by it in the first place was by striking down its previous user? Someone who by some means was around at the time the Iron Giant attacked, but failed.
I love Gear 5 Bonney. Kuma started and ended as a slave but it was all to give Bonney the freedom that he never had and now she's the most free with the incarnation of Nika, who he prayed to. It's beautiful storytelling and you love to see it. EDIT: 200 likes is awesome LoL
But Kumas journey had nothing to do with Bonney being "free" 🤔 he didn't do anything, it was Luffy that freedom her. I am not a fan of that. Wish Kuma had given her freedom
Its mostly newer OP fans that are complaining. OG fans under how Oda operates. We know to let Oda cook before jumping to conclusions. She beat a couple of Vice Admirals (something all Supernovas can do) and shes already being called a Mary Sue lol
@@lazylonewolfhe means people that got into the series recently like the last few months/years binge reading. unlike the people who've been reading OP for 20+ years
I've been following this series for most of my life and I'm in my mid-20's. I don't love what happened in the last chapter. I think Oda is incredibly talented and as someone who wants to one day publish my own stories, I look up to him as inspiration, but he is not perfect, there are plenty of moments and scenes in One Piece I don't love or even outright dislike, that doesn't mean the whole thing is bad, but it's not perfect either. To me, this moment feels great thematically, but doesn't work when you examine it from a plot and character perspective, or at the very least it doesn't carry the weight that I think it should. I actually have very similar thoughts on Gear 5, I think thematically it's the perfect power for Luffy and for him to save Wano with, but when examining the series as a whole, it creates a lot of issues and leaves me with a lot of questions that either don't have any good answers, or have answers that harm the story and the characters.
Power scalers ruin everything. Whether it's One Piece, any other manga, or any other show/game/movie/anything in general, power scaling is objectively the most incorrect way to consume any piece of media. Putting all of the importance on which character can hit the most good, and which character "deserves" to be called strongest, completely disregarding the entirety of the narrative, character growth or development, thematic intentions, and any all context or subtext, in favor of watering down a piece of fiction to the single, tiresome question of "who would win in a fight." That's what's going on with Bonney right now. Power scalers whining because a character is strong that they don't want to talk about being strong.
Why do you people always take the ridiculous leap in logic that people that do powerscaling ONLY care about that in a story & Judge the writing of a character based on the powerscaling?? It's a really weak strawman argument. Anyone who is not 12 (mentally or physically) will tell you that judging how well a character is written as a person & powerscaling said character's abilities are 2 different things. If you want to read a story where powerscaling is not a factor in the OVERALL quality of the story AT ALL however, you should read ones where characters don't have have powers there are plenty. NOBODY likes when a story implements abilities/a magic system and then disregards it, that's where the whole "power of friendship" criticism of manga anime stems from.
Doesn't it make sense that Bonney is able to transform into gear 5 now as a child because it was stated that this is where her devil fruit is at its peak and it'll weaken as she grow older so her seeing luffy sparked her imagination and allowed her to reach that same transformation??
The hilarious thing is people reading One Piece and expecting it to behave like naruto. Like. Idk why yall read this series if you're upset about earned power. Its never meant shit in One Piece. Ever. Nobody cares. Let goof rubber crackhead do weird shit with his now goofy mini-me. If you want serious, go complain about Madara not winning for the millionth time
I find that YT pools tend to somewhat align with the Channel's point of view. It would be interesting to compare these results with a similar pool from a channel very much against Gear 5 or Bonny.
We have seen a lot of Mary Sue characters the last decade because to be blunt, story telling has hit a plateau and there was a fear of showing characters as weak/suffering (especially feminine characters). The rejection of the "Heroes Journey" model was made en masse, which fine, but you then need to come up with a good new model. So far...there hasn't been one that connects narrative and emotion well. And no, Bonny is the opposite of a Mary Sue. More in the Anakin model of suffering Hero's Journey producing immature power. It's why she still needs her dad.
A Mary Sue is a character that warps the story in order to constantly be the center of attention. They're able to effortlessly solve every problem, even pulling new abilities out of nowhere, to steal the spotlight away from other characters. For example: If Bonney was a Mary Sue, then she would join the Straw Hats and use her distorted future powers to solve every conflict the crew comes across. The story would warp itself to make Nami sick in order to show that Bonney can take over and be just as good a navigator if not better, then she would cook a meal for the crew that would make Sanji jealous, then make improvements on the ship that even Franky didn't think of, etc. Plus, a Mary Sue has to always be involved in everybody's personal story and every major event, even if it doesn't make sense. The reason why so many people think that Mary Sues are just an overpowered character is because in Battle Shonens, most of the conflicts can be solved with violence. So of course, a character being able to easily punch out every villain would be considered a Mary Sue to them. The fun part of any story is watching the characters struggle and eventually win with effort and determination. But a Mary Sue just takes the fun away because there's no challenge for them.
My headcanon is that Bonney and Kuma are Oda's way of expressing his feelings on his fatherhood with his daughters. This is why he was able to make it so touching, as it was an abstraction of some of his real feelings. Of course, that also gives him a considerable bias towards Bonney, because if he's a dad like Kuma, he will have a soft spot for the character that became an image of his daughters in a certain way. All of this is very cute to me, and I'm really happy that Oda has these powerful and positive feelings to channel into his work. From all the emotions a person can have, true fatherly love is one of the most beautiful ones.
Bro these angry comments on both sides of the argument are too funny I can’t stop reading these (yeah I’m just waiting for the next chapter to see if it’s a bad addition or not)
@@maunabesanika they’ll stop crying after a bit it was the same with gear 5 when people were crying it ruined tension. People on the internet want to complain about things even if they know it’s not wrong
I think there are two main camps of people when it comes to the Bonney situation: the people who look at it through a narrative lens, and those who look at it through power scaling. The power scalers are mad because she seems to have become one of the most powerful characters in the series with very quickly with seemingly little effort. Meanwhile, the narrative people see this as Bonney finally gaining the freedom she was denied all her life.
One piece was never meant for power scalers. Same jokers that say Kaido would still win, when it should be obvious at this point that Oda would let Luffy win.
Yeah let's be honest power scaling has never been something important in One Piece fun and good story and characters are. I don't care how strong a character gets as long as it doesn't take away from the story. Bonney get's this power for story not strength.
The second Luffy unlocked toon force, power scaling has lost what little impact it had on the story. BTW Luffy used Toon Force against Alvida in chapter 2
@@am54004 If power scaling was not important, then why does Luffy lose all the time? If there’s no power scaling, that means everyone’s the same strength. that’s like saying a comprehensive story structure is not important to one piece. Oda is a master at what he does, and he uses every tool available to him, including power scaling
They don't know what Mary Sue is. It's like the idiot kids that say they have trypophobia. Just because holes make you uncomfortable doesn't mean you have a fear of them. Just a bunch of hive mind NPCs that need to fit in to not be insecure
'Mary Sue' is like 'Gaslighting'. Silly people heard the word, had a vague idea of what it meant, and they went on to attribute it to everything possible.
A Mary Sue is also, more importantly, a character who the story revolves around and hogs up the spotlight. That does not sound like Bonney at all. Sure, she's kind of important right now. But it makes sense given the context. It's not like Bonney is suddenly the center of the universe.
We gotta blame Disney for this gaslighting with their shitty writing for the past 10 years with their female characters lol Tho Rey is indeed a Mary Sue
Momo ate an artificial fruit. And he didn't master it for 400 chapters. In fact, he hasn't even mastered it now. And we knew Momo before Kaido was even introduced. Apples =\= Oranges. 😂😂😂
Because his dragon form isn’t literal reality warping, which is insanely intuitive to pick up. He had to actively learn how to use his abilities, and we know from when Luffy first got Gfive he did not have to do that
Because he had to sacrifice his childhood to do it, and even then, he was still a child in a man's body, couldn't fight, and couldn't even fly originally. This is a goofy comparison
why isnt anyone talking about how in the anime not only did they animate gear 5 realy well imo, but the drums of liberation turned out to be the starting drums of the "overtaken" track from the soundtrack which is so freakin cool. We have been hearing the drums of liberation literally from episode 1
Back in day, I was one of the haters of gear 5, then I understood that this isn't dragon ball and its about telling a history, and I fing love Bonney fullfilling Kuma's promise
I don't hate gear 5 as a form it's pretty neat and fun... What I do despise is the massive amounts of asspulls and retcons that made it possible. It's very sloppy writing on Oda's behalf. There is no justifying it: _"Oh, secretly Luffy's devil fruit wasn't the Paramecia Gum Gum fruit that you've been told it was called the whole time. It's actually the ZOAN Human Human fruit model SUN GOD and nobody noticed there was no such thing as a rubber fruit (Even though that really doesn't make sense - why wouldn't there be an elastic power?) Also, we're just gonna not foreshadow this at all until roughly 50 chapters (of 1000s) before it becomes relevant. Also to awaken this power, Luffy has to die so he can he revive somehow"_ That's just really bad writing; dumb decisions pancaked on top of each other each to justify a stupid retcon to push luffy into the role of divine chosen one. You never want to outright lie to your audience as a writer. Every event up until now is suddenly invalidated as the writers whims can contrive out a retcon to the story at any time. And we know Oda is better than this. It didn't even need to be this way. Aside from the heartbeat, I can't think of a single reason why you need Nika in this equation. Just write it so Gum Gum fruit's awakened form bends and stretches reality itself while still being the Gum Gum fruit. Hell, you could even link that directly to Joyboy via inherited will, so Luffy wouldn't have his exact powers (Like Bonney does here) but simply be calling upon his powers symbolically.
@@Ruldolphmaker LOL Your take is kinda dumb. The Story starts with a young Luffy eating a random fruit he found on Shanks ship. They then realize boy luffy's hand and body is now stretchy and elastic. No one every confirmed it was the Gomu Gomu they all just went with it. Maybe they knew they had stolen the Nika fruit and it would mark Luffy for death, who knows? Luffy continues on under the assumption that its the Gomu fruit and it doesn't make a difference when he thinks about what his body can do. Timeskip arrives. We now start seeing things clearly outside the scope of a rubber fruit should be able to do, I bet you didn't even have a problem with it at this point. Such things as examples are Blowing air into bones while they still remain dense, Gear 4, Ability to create fire a la Red Hawk, and immunity to heat because of Guts are a few. It was then revealed to be part of the information purge by the world Government. So direct misinformation. Luffy has been the chosen one since the beginning arcs over 20 years ago. How did you not see that before the awakening? He solo changed so much in the world, as well as had ELITE parents and Teachers.
@@Ruldolphmaker What I don't like about this transformation is that I no longer feel any tension, nothing feels dangerous or risky anymore. In this current form we will never have another fight like the first one with Lucci or Katakuri. It doesn't ruin everything for me but I do miss those types of fights.
@@Ruldolphmaker Well, as you can tell, there is no way you can inflate your bones blowing your thumb, that's not how bones works, sometimes Oda does things that seems pulled from nothing, like Sabo, but it was there, the third cup. I no longer care if he is a great mastermind of constructing or just that good at improvising, I just want the tale to be enyojable, and he keeps pulling tears out of me.
I have an odd theory. Remember when Oda said that some devil fruits are more powerful than others? I think that Imu’s devil fruit is the better version of the Dark-Dark fruit.
I have an even odder theory that is kinda related. I think that there is an ancient creature that opposed sun god Nika, and so Nola created the straw hat in order to find and guide people to stop is incantations. Rocks, Imu and Blackbeard are all incantations of it
But the difference is one of those is a power that you have to get used to, and the other is reality warping only limited by your imagination. Let’s put it like this luffy when he just barely got gear five did he have to figure out how to use it with trial and error ?no he just did whatever he wanted and it happened. The same thing should Theoretically happen to Bonney
As with everything else in this world, people will find any reason to nitpick and complain on the internet. Then, they move onto the next thing they “don’t like”.

Cause Momo ate the same devil fruit as Kaido and hasn't reached Kaido's level. He didn't just say, I like that, flicked his fingers and immediately got to gear fifth skipping over gears one through four. Pretty much two opposite scenarios. She won't be as strong as Luffy, but she still got to gear fifth without any training which is very reminiscent of the Mary Sue types we're seeing everywhere throughout modern Hollywood movies and people are tired of that trope and while this doesn't exactly fits that trope, it's pretty close. @@randomhumanoid7721 Bonney's DF ability can make her grow up to be anything *she thinks* she could possibly be. A very strong power for _a child._ Plus, this form was only achieved because of Luffy becoming Nika. If her god tells her she can do something, why doubt it?
@@douglaslopes5913 Observation. Saturn referred to it as a worthless ability, and yeah, why would he waste a strong fruit in an experiment? Answer: it normally isn't very good. From context clues, we can gather that to change someone's age, including her own, Bonney needed someone to model off of. She heself being a child provided that age, she used her granny as the base for an old person, and her desire to be a strong adult manifested in her usual appearance. With Distorted Future, we have her modeling her buff form after Kuma, Giant form based on the Elbaf giants, and Nika-ish form off the stories of Nika. That last one being more immaterial made it shaky. As her faith in Nika dwindled, the form became weak. Now though, with that faith becoming certainty, it's the strongest.
I’ve been in the "Bonney's going to join the RA” camp for a while. And with these Nika-like powers, I can definitely see it. Because now, Bonney can act as an apostle for Nika the Sun God. At the same time, I’m also considering the “Bonney going to join the SHs” camp more than ever. Her turning into a Nika form feels very apprentice-coded. Especially with the way Luffy supports and recognizes her power like he does with all of his crew mates and friends. It goes into the themes of Luffy’s leadership that have been prevalent since Post-timeskip. Then again, Oda has always been good at the SHs’ power sets not overlapping too much. But I love the sentiment that the daughter of slaves can see herself as completely free. And I've seen many people worried that now they can spread Gear 5 like in Naruto. I don't see that. It’s not Luffy affecting Bonney. It’s just Bonney’s powers. Bonney’s powers come from belief. So it’s her belief that she can be free. It’s the reason it didn’t really work when she wanted a “Nika-like future” is because Nika isn’t about power or physical strength, it’s about freedom. And in this world and to Bonney, Nika is the embodiment of freedom.
Once bonney asked kuma if nika would also make her free and now because of luffy/nika she is a using a distorted future where she is the most free. Quite a development!!
I think a slave who had bonneys fruit may have activated the iron giant 200 years ago, because we never saw bonney eat her fruit when she was in the sorbet kingdom i belive it had been given to her in mariejoa
Using Momonosuke and Kaido as a comparison doesn't really match up to Luffy and Bonnie, Kaido's dragon fruit scales on strength and determination, two leadership qualities that Momonosuke lacks (lacked). Luffy's Nika fruit scales on creativity and fun and Bonnie being an actual child (using the freedom mode) means she will probably have a much easier time getting to grips with the powers.
...MOST LIKELY......IT'LL BE LIKE..... *_EVERY FRUIT USER WILL BE ABLE TO ACHIEVE GEAR5 BECAUSE IT'S true freedom_* ,AND JOY BOY IS LIKE.... *CATALYST* .......AND .....KIND OF.....ALL FRUITS WERE LIKE GEAR5........BUT THEY'VE GOT ULTIMATELY artificially nerfed SO THE POWERS BECAME QUITE LIMITED...........AND THE ONLY ONE THAT WASNT NERFED WAS LUFFY'S BECAUSE WORLD GOVT WASNT ABOUT GETTING HANDS ON IT LIKE NOT A EVEN SINGLE TIME ........BUT *_NOW_* , WITH LUFFY'S "AWAKENING"............ALL OF "SLEEPING" POWERS GOT CHANCE TO *_awake_* .........SO BONNIE'S FRUIT HAS JUST AWAKENED AND ALL OTHERS WHO will BELIEVE WILL HAVE CHANCE ........SO...... *WHEN EVERYONE WILL BECOME JOY BOY, YOU'LL STILL BE A PROUD MEMBER OF COMMUNITY,RIGHT??*
So people just conveniently forgot all the suffering Bonney went through up to this point and she's now just a Mary-sue. Gotta love fan bases. One week Oda is the goat, the next he's a hack shit writer.
Luffy before the time-skip went through the deaths of ALL his brothers and got his crew obliterated as well as the fact that he quite literally physically destroyed himself in his pursuit to save ace by going through the seven rings of hell and escaping it and so much more .Do tell as to why on earth he didn't awaken his devil if the only caveat to do so was the amount of pain and suffering that one has to go through mentally ?
My problem with Bonny´s fruit is that it´s powers and limitations are very ambiguous, making it´s user very strong at a low cost. In fact, that´s the same reason why I´m still not convince about Gear 5, I prefered when in the old days Luffy´s power was well defined with simple rules and he used his imagination to circumvent those limitations in his favor. I don´t care about the message of the scene if the story doesn´t convey it satisfactorily.
Bonnie doesn't have Luffy's haki or experience or physical strength. I don't care if she has all Luffy's devil Fruit abilities because that doesn't mean she's equal in strength. I'll use the super Saiyan example because it's similar. When you become super Saiyan you don't become as strong as every other super Saiyan what you get is a power buff to your current strength. In other words if your base strength is weaker than another super Saiyan that won't make you stronger than another super Saiyan with a stronger base.
@@mazuki7602 He then proceeded to get destroyed by a Devil Fruit. Why do people quote Kaido or think anything he says has weight? The man was introduced as a dumb drunk who wanted to end himself by jumping off a sky island on to land but not the sea where he would really die.

Yes! That's my theory too! Devil fruits utilize Imagination. Thats why we've seen unique uses of the powers. (The weird giraffe guy is a good example.)
@@ziglaus , you need both Devil Fruits and Haki to remain permanently the Pirate King because Roger died of Pirate Cancer after the battle of God Valley and finding the One Piece, and Whitebeard's Tremor Tremor Fruit didn't make him the Pirate King Post-MarineFord meaning if Bonney does become the next Strawhat Pirate means that Luffy will have successfully surpassed Roger and Whitebeard.
When looking at stories, not just One Piece, I find too many folks looking at things from an angle of powerscaling and bashing action figures together, rather than looking at things from the perspective of narrative themes, which leads in turn to, imo, a much more narrow and shallow view of the story as a whole. I'm the kind of person who always prefers examining things from the angle of themes over anything else, and I can say I feel like it's a lot more fun than just having pissing competitions over who's sword/fist/magic is stronger on social media. You enjoy a thing way more when you can dig in to it beyond surface level ideas in my experience
Well guess what, if those themes don’t match up with the rules the world was constructed within then it’s pointless. Why would I give a damn about the themes of a story when the actions that show the themes are illogical within the world.

Symphony of liberation would give me goose bumps. One piece has always been about nakama, and people are complaining about Luffy nakamaing everyone he inspires.
Maybe it’s the fact, Luffy’s Gear 5 Joyboy became less special and unique, almost a myth, just as Haki was a rare thing, then 2 year time skip, a lot of character can do it too, wait for the next movie when Luffy go against someone with made up Devil Fruit, then use Gear 5
The “fans” who were hella mad for Bonney becoming stronger than/ as strong as Luffy are just being delusional. It was never a talk about power scaling. It’s a little girl who’s never been free since she was 10, went thru hell to reunite with her father, was told straight to her face that her life is useless and that she will never be free. Only to then punch everyone in the face and become free herself. That’s why I liked Bonney’s Nika transformation
It's pretty clear that there are time restrictions on her ability here, and, i highly doubt she's capable of replicating Luffy's superhuman strength *and* his haki. To me this reads as just a really cool temporary buff she can use.
better hope this head cannon is true boi. Better hope this some awakened shit she nearly dies using and not something that requires convenient food placement every few panels.
been saying this since the chapter released, people angry with a single panel today, would be freaking out that Duval would replace Sanji back in the day with that logic
I think narratively it makes sense for Bonney to be in this transformation for the moment. But I hope she imagines a more unique future for her personal self at the end of the story. As far as potentially having an army of Nika users I don't like that at all. I've always loved the uniqueness of everyones DFs and how the character utilizes their fruit. I think for final war Luffy inspiring everyone to awaken their personal DF abilities in the end would be much better. I dont want to see the same battle of Nikas everywhere because people's DF imo represents their character/development. In the end war for people end up with the same abilities/similar character design takes away from who they are. That doesn't sound like overrall freedom to me.
I love this interaction. As a guy who generally isnt into anime too much, being so focused on the main character is among the things i hate. So extending his affords to someone else is something i do much appreciate. And like was said here, it has so many implications beyond just power scaling.
Does that mean we have to talk about Apoo and his Oto Oto no Mi. Say he hears the "drums of liberations", that sound fruit of his should be able to recreate it.
I don't think it's just the sound, per say. It's probably also a "feeling" of liberation. So because Apoop is a complete sellout, he'd never be able to fully recreate the Drums of Liberation with sound alone.
Anybody who didn't see this coming makes me wonder what manga they've been reading. And people who think it's terrible make me wonder what they even like about One Piece, because this is what One Piece is all about.
Stop the cap if it wasn’t for the fans we wouldn’t be talking about one piece if we don’t learn anything from this time period in culture love your fans or end up like Star Wars, Doctor Who, etc.
Dude shut up, withiut one piece fans then one piece wouldn’t even exist😂 people just mad that there’s lazy writing happening now after 25 years 😂 if Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Lord of the rings can fall to criticisms then one piece does come close to those so it will be subjugated to criticism. 🤷🏻♂️
What if this is what Luffy being Nika *means*? Inspiring others to reach the same freedom of person? Allowing people to meet oppressors and overcome them?
I'm fairly convinced the root of powerscaling is people still hung up on the premise of, "My dad can beat up your dad," but whose dads didn't love them enough, so they had to go find surrogate faves to endlessly defend. It's like how people who exhibit corporate brand loyalty in things like the console wars obviously have some deep-seated psychological need to belong that isn't being met and has thus become maladaptive. Anyway, ignore the 3%.
@@BaldorfBreakdowns What's there to understand? I spend a lot of time with Bleach. I have watched Bleach powerscalers assert that Bleach is a series where even low-tier characters move at least 20 times faster than light. They do this on the basis of a databook describing a certain attack as "light". There is exactly one numerically quantified speed feat in Bleach, which is an attack moving at Mach 500. This attack is impossible for the strongest characters in the series to dodge if it's pointed directly at them. The speed of light is Mach 874,030. 20 times that is Mach 17,480,600. So, according to powerscalers, in this series where nobody can dodge a Mach 500 attack, everyone is moving at Mach 17.5 million or more. Because that makes sense. These same powerscalers also earnestly believe that humans moving at regular human speeds of 3-4 miles per hour, can reasonably traverse a city they believe is the size of somewhere between Texas and Alaska in at most a few hours. Now you might say, "Well, THOSE powerscalers are dumb," but the truth is that this kind of _phenomenal_ logic is pretty typical of how all powerscalers in all fandoms work, regardless of what the particulars are for their specific fandom. They're always wrong. They're not worth understanding the viewpoints of.
@@DuxSupremus I have no idea what you're even on about. You've just assumed what people are thinking and dismissed them without ever even knowing what they actually think. There's no point in any further conversation with you.
I really don’t see any issues at all with this. Different futures are the natural extension of her power (her base powers are really boring without them), and this entire arc set up this moment basically from the jump. It would be like being dissapointed that Luffy became the pirate king whenever it was clearly set up, and the entire point of that character arc
I think that might be the heart of the issue, yeah. I am more in the camp that says there was no set up for this. What did have set up? Nika powers being tied to your devil fruit. Nika powers being unique. Thosr things i can see being foreshadowed. What happened with Bonney, i dont remember any set up
@@ziglaus that she wanted to be more like Nika the whole arc, but she lost hope and failed to create any different futures because of how evil and powerful Saturn was, and now Luffy’s fun and hope helped her bounce back and create the hope in a brighter future for herself. Her whole plotline in general is wrapped around the future. Her not supposed to live past 10 (no future litterally), her being stuck trying to save/avenge her father instead of living her own future, always being chased by world gov, etc. and Nika is the representation of freedom from all of that, a free future which only now she can see
@@ziglaus Her entire backstory. When she left her island to go search for Kuma, she basically used Gear 3, before Luffy ever thought about gears. The Distorted Future she used against Vegapunk, The Bucanneer Future, and the one against Nujuro, The Giant Future. And most important against Jay Garcia, The Nikaish Future. The explanation of her power. That she can turn her future into "ANYTHING"!!! That she only needs to believe it as a possibility. And Jay Garcia thinking, relieved, that she wasn't able to make the connection between Nika and Luffy. Basically, that her fruit is broken, if she knowns how to use it! And is even more broken than just turn into Nika(Something that will infuriate the powerscalers even more than they already are), was set this entire Arc. And more, this fruit concept of her, doesn't go against the Devil Fruit concept. No, it favours what we know of it.
@@nerdcorner2680 Where did you read all that? She wanted to be free, sure, but that is not "being like Nika". Did she ever say she wanted to be like that? Nika is a god, with godlike power. Is Oda trying to say that freedom is only possible if you overpower everyone else? And is the phrase "Imagine yourself free" all it takes? You say Saturns evil stopped her from imagining alternate futures. But that has never been mentioned. Even if she can no longer imagine positive futures, she should be able to imagine negative futures, right? She never mentions shes "inspired by Luffys fun and hope". She never talks about her admiration of Luffy. It would be a better story if she did, but she simply does not, and the fact that its on us, the readers to go "i didn't see any signs of this, but i guess that might have been going on in her head", is a failure of Odas writing.
She doesn’t need a huge power up like everyone is predicting. If gear 5 gave her rubber powers alone that’ll be devastating to anyone vice admiral level or below because it’ll be basically impossible to avoid her.
why do people act and write as if they already read the chapter where she use the transformation? also if they actually read the manga, they will know that it will be weaker than Luffy, since she can only keep her distorted temporarily, and she doesnt have Haki and experience of the form if anything, she's probably only gonna support Luffy with terrain manipulation and maybe defense while Luffy will be the one that dish the damage that can repel the elder
It is always the western fandom who complain about anime bc their tv shows are bad and full of forced messages. One piece is still amazing and the reason for that is that Oda is not influencing his stories with some bitter comments.
"Gear 5 isn't a power upgrade, it's freedom" I wonder why Luffy lost to kaido 4times before achieving gear 5 and then winning with it. But nope gear 5 isn't about strength, it's freedom. I love One Piece but firstly, gear 5 in of itself was ass. Secondly, bonney being able to achieve it too reduces it's value in a very significant way. All these "a lot of you don't understand blah blah blah" is just cope. I just hope the next few chapters bring some sort of clarity to this historic asspull. As you were.
I can't even understand her power?? Is her power to request power by saying give me a future?? In that case she can see can ask " give me a future of one piece" and she'll get the one piece?? I mean how does freedom and all that is really related to her power?? I think Oda messed up here.
@@Alex-bs5sdno one fully understands it apart from oda but my understanding of it is that she can access realties where humans have had completely different circumstances and evolved and everything different to our current one piece world. So for example, Bonney could say give me a future where I’m like papa and she becomes a buccaneer but she probably wouldn’t contain the ‘special feature’ that buccaneers have in them. Bonney asked for a reality where she is the most free and the most free being to ever exist was Nika so she entered G5 but it will most likely not be the same as luffys.
@@Alex-bs5sd he power is to control Aage and extend to alternate future rn she is using alternate future where she is the most freperson in the world and by that she got some power of joyboy cuz in that alternate timeline she is the joyboy
One of Bonney's powers is to access a future self that she can imagine. If she can genuinely believe she can become a giant/buccaneer, or that she could have for some other reason, she can. That's why her being a naive child is a key factor to her powers. Her powers weakened when Saturn hit her with some exposition, to close her mind to possible futures, but when Luffy told Bonney that she could do it, then she believed she could actually become Nika, like Luffy. And if the user of the Toshi Toshi no mi believes she can become something, she WILL become something

Something I think that is being kind of overlooked maybe is that from the one time we see it happening, a Devil Fruit's reincarnation tends to happen in a nearby fruit. We know that Shanks stole the fruit from the WG. What if the way they came by it in the first place was by striking down its previous user? I actually have very similar thoughts on Gear 5, I think thematically it's the perfect power for Luffy and for him to save Wano with, but when examining the series as a whole, it creates a lot of issues and leaves me with a lot of questions that either don't have any good answers, or have answers that harm the story and the characters.
Power scalers ruin everything. Whether it's One Piece, any other manga, or any other show/game/movie/anything in general, power scaling is objectively the most incorrect way to consume any piece of media. Putting all of the importance on which character can hit the most good, and which character "deserves" to be called strongest, completely disregarding the entirety of the narrative, character growth or development, thematic intentions, and any all context or subtext, in favor of watering down a piece of fiction to the single, tiresome question of "who would win in a fight."
That's what's going on with Bonney right now. Power scalers whining because a character is strong that they don't want to talk about being strong.
Stan Lee had it right when it comes to "who would win in a fight?"
The answer is always "whoever the writer wants to win"
No you
Power levels are BS.
@@SuperFlikand sometimes power scalers will disagree because feats of 1 character were better

Mary Sue is something that shows how half the public know the names of tropes, but have 0 analytical skill
Where is your source then?
@@TWIXTIMA0the source is how people like you have been using it for the last 20 years
A Mary Sue is a character that warps the story in order to constantly be the center of attention.
A perfect example of Mary Sue is Rey Skywalker from star wars sequel trilogy
RIP Dragon and Yasoop and Oden.

Except we have seen nothing at all about bonnys power in this form so discussing it is meaningless.
@@am54004 If power scaling was not important, then why does Luffy lose all the time? 'Mary Sue' is like 'Gaslighting'. Silly people heard the word, had a vague idea of what it meant, and they went on to attribute it to everything possible.
A Mary Sue is also, more importantly, a character who the story revolves around and hogs up the spotlight. That does not sound like Bonney at all.
Sure, she's kind of important right now. But it makes sense given the context. It's not like Bonney is suddenly the center of the universe.

Kuma getting to see his daughter take the form of his lifelong hero. If Saturn sees it, this will hit harder than Kuma’s Punch.
I just wanna point out that no one complained when Momo went Kaido dragon form.
Exactly!
Because his mom helped him sacrifice 20 years of his life
Momo ate an artificial fruit. And he didn't master it for 400 chapters. In fact, he hasn't even mastered it now.
And we knew Momo before Kaido was even introduced.
Apples =\= Oranges. 😂😂😂
What if Luffy has an ability where he can give other people part of his ability to borrow like how Naruto coats people in 9tails Chakra
why isnt anyone talking about how in the anime not only did they animate gear 5 realy well imo, but the drums of liberation turned out to be the starting drums of the "overtaken" track from the soundtrack which is so freakin cool. We have been hearing the drums of liberation literally from episode 1
Back in day, I was one of the haters of gear 5, then I understood that this isn't dragon ball and its about telling a history, and I fing love Bonney fullfilling Kuma's promise
thats a huge W on your part
I don't hate gear 5 as a form it's pretty neat and fun... What I do despise is the massive amounts of asspulls and retcons that made it possible. It's very sloppy writing on Oda's behalf. There is no justifying it:
_"Oh, secretly Luffy's devil fruit wasn't the Paramecia Gum Gum fruit that you've been told it was called the whole time. Also to awaken this power, Luffy has to die so he can he revive somehow"_
That's just really bad writing; dumb decisions pancaked on top of each other each to justify a stupid retcon to push luffy into the role of divine chosen one.
Rocks, Imu and Blackbeard are all incantations of it
It's like; when Sabo eat Ace devil fruit, is he the same power level as Ace? No, he just got the flame power
Very good point
Not the best example, Sabo was doing crazy stuff with the fruit in the coliseum
He’s literally Ace 2.0 such a dumb example
Doesn’t matter if he’s weaker or stronger the way they use it is different
But the difference is one of those is a power that you have to get used to, and the other is reality warping only limited by your imagination. Let’s put it like this luffy when he just barely got gear five did he have to figure out how to use it with trial and error ?no he just did whatever he wanted and it happened. The same thing should Theoretically happen to Bonney
As with everything else in this world, people will find any reason to nitpick and complain on the internet. Then, they move onto the next thing they “don’t like”.

Good point. Nobody says Momo is as strong as Kaido, why say Bonney is as strong as Luffy?
Cause Momo ate the same devil fruit as Kaido and hasn't reached Kaido's level. He didn't just say, I like that, flicked his fingers and immediately got to gear fifth skipping over gears one through four. Pretty much two opposite scenarios. She won't be as strong as Luffy, but she still got to gear fifth without any training which is very reminiscent of the Mary Sue types we're seeing everywhere throughout modern Hollywood movies and people are tired of that trope and while this doesn't exactly fits that trope, it's pretty close. I don't mind it myself since we still have to see where this is going, but I get where they're coming from.
@@randomhumanoid7721 Bonney's DF ability can make her grow up to be anything *she thinks* she could possibly be. A very strong power for _a child._ Plus, this form was only achieved because of Luffy becoming Nika. If her god tells her she can do something, why doubt it?
@@commonviewer2488 I agree.
@commonviewer2488 is this your conjecture or something confirmed?
I saw a dude on Twitter who said oda is a bad writer because he’s not giving him what he “the reader” wants 😂😂😂
Luffy and Kaido also have advanced forms of haki. Where as Bonney and Momonosuke havent shown any forms of haki...
Wow, that makes perfect sense! It makes even more sense about all those experiments now!
You clearly haven't been following Egghead arc have you?
Using Momonosuke and Kaido as a comparison doesn't really match up to Luffy and Bonnie, Kaido's dragon fruit scales on strength and determination, two leadership qualities that Momonosuke lacks (lacked). Luffy's Nika fruit scales on creativity and fun and Bonnie being an actual child (using the freedom mode) means she will probably have a much easier time getting to grips with the powers.
In terms of personality this arc makes me see Bonney as the female luffy

My problem with Bonny´s fruit is that it´s powers and limitations are very ambiguous, making it´s user very strong at a low cost. In fact, that´s the same reason why I´m still not convince about Gear 5, I prefered when in the old days Luffy´s power was well defined with simple rules and he used his imagination to circumvent those limitations in his favor. I don´t care about the message of the scene if the story doesn´t convey it satisfactorily.
I get Bonney but what’s wrong with g5 it’s basically just a buffed base form luffy and he has drawbacks
Whats crazy about this argument is it ignores the fact Luffy is TECHNICALLY this powerful from the beginning of the story, he just didnt know it yet.

I mean in any random chapter of one piece bonney suffers and loses more than literally any Disney main character woman in there entire franchises
People who are complaining clearly never understood onepiece tp begin with.
why do people act and write as if they already read the chapter where she use the transformation?
also if they actually read the manga, they will know that it will be weaker than Luffy, since she can only keep her distorted temporarily, and she doesnt have Haki and experience of the form
if anything, she's probably only gonna support Luffy with terrain manipulation and maybe defense while Luffy will be the one that dish the damage that can repel the elder
Because we read the chapter on Thursday
It is always the western fandom who complain about anime bc their tv shows are bad and full of forced messages. One piece is still amazing and the reason for that is that Oda is not influencing his stories with some bitter comments.
@@majdalbarqawi7482 fr the japanese side of the fandom does argue, but not over this silly shit
I don't think it matters what she does with it, the speciality of Nika powers got dilluted. Like Thors powers in Thor Love and Thunder
@@ziglaus you're suprised joyboy can actually spread joy? Woah there. That's a new low for comprehension isn't it?
"Gear 5 isn't a power upgrade, it's freedom"
I wonder why Luffy lost to kaido 4times before achieving gear 5 and then winning with it.
Not an asspull when it literally makes sense narratively. You're just a butt hurt incel
I think it would have been better if they just kept it as the age age fruit
Fr
3 days and already it's a controversy, gotta be a new record for the OP community
Ngl I just feel like people are pissed that a little girl has a DECENT amount of power in shonen manga
Why is everyone thought bonnie would be as strong as luffy
Because people are stupid
1:48 this super Saiyan transformation always deserves a long take. Thanks for not cutting it too short🙏🏽😂😂
