    Thank you for sharing your experience! I currently finished my 90 days as a PSE /SSDA and just like you I know its just a stepping stone. I dont have kids yet so thats why i didnt mind the 6 day work week, but now i feel over worked & sometimes overwhelmed. Someone is always going on vacation which means im left to pick up the slack. If someone leaves early or cant stay im left to pick up the slack. The station im at hired me an a older guy who just converted to PTF ( because he applied for window clerk )so he no longer does distribution with me in the afternoon because hes now closing the window. Now im the only one doing am & pm distribution 6days a wk because everyone else who is career feels there above sorting parcels/distribution. Two employees got into it bad to the point postal inspectors got involved and one is currently on vacation an wont be back until 1st wk of aug. Word around town is they both will be let go which means 2 career positions will open up , im ready to just find better but ppl are saying just wait to see how that plays out first ..irdk ..any advice would be appreciated , thanks.

      I know the burden you carry quite well. I’m sure you know the stages from PSE to PTF, then finally to career employee. You will not get a break until you become career, that’s when you’ll be entitled to 5 days. However, it really depends on the need of the post office. Your next position would be a PFT.
      If any of your coworkers get fired, it will take months before a replacement is there. They take over 6 months to get a replacement because they take forever to post the position. It will be even tougher on you, but the paychecks will soften the blow. Keep holding down the fort. You’re doing a hell of a job!
      You wouldn’t automatically go from PSE to career. You’ll have to go and do the window training. Your postmaster would have to rush that for the next class to get the ball rolling. He may delay because that would mean you’ll be away, and he/she needs you at the post office.
      As far as advice, since you don’t have kids right now, hang in there because you’ll eventually become career and have a set 5 day schedule. Although PTF is career as well, I’m not talking about that because there’s no set schedule. You’ll be just fine. Keep saving, good luck!

      @@Positivity876 I understand now that I would become ptf before coming career" bc if those positions do open up other ppl who are "career can bid on them an since they were there first it automatically goes to them. I realized this job is based on seniority an some butt kissing which is not my thing at all lol & ever since I took off for my bday (which fell on a Saturday) my manager has started this thing where he'll text me the night before saying you don't have to come in tm" so my checks are not what they use to be. Sometimes i think its purposefully all that bc i took a saturday off? Crazy ..but he says the window is slow in the afternoon now an the older guy needs something to do since hes a ptf ..i'm going to give it more time an than decide if I'm staying or going. I appreciate the words of wisdom an encouragement it's been very helpful. Good luck on your new journey as well!

I have a lot more mental peace, space, and a stable schedule. However, I don’t plan to stop here. I will continue to grow and progress! Unfortunately, I had to close down my online business because I didn’t have enough time to manage it, while I was working for the post office. I have other business ventures that I’m carefully planning, but enough about me!
      Yes, you are in a new chapter in life. Going from raising your children and having a busy home, to having that peaceful and predictable home. Well, that’s until the grandkids step in, lol. • @Positivity876
      @Positivity876  Рік тому +2

      Hi there! Congrats on your retirement, that’s a blessing in itself. I was hired as a career employee (PTF), which is the same position as a PSE. As a PTF, you are basically a slave. A PSE is a 50/50 chance that you’re going to be under worked or overworked. I understand what you mentioned about not taking anymore time from your children, as you already did that before with your previous job. So, now you’re looking to center your next chapter of work around your children and possibly grandchildren. My advice would be to move forward with the PSE position. Eventually, PSE’s become a PTF at some point. Once you get to the PTF position, then that decision should be yours. As your sister said, you can walk away if it’s too much.
      In all, it doesn’t hurt to take the position as a PSE. You should be able to manage. However, once you become a PTF, you have a big decision to make.

    You can find an 8 hour a day clerk job at the post office with minimal overtime. Once you are a regular, you have many more choices. You just have to wait your turn. You wait for bids to open up and you apply for them. I have coworkers who change bids multiple times until they find a good fit, and they have been at the post office less than 2 years. Many people are now retiring from the post office after working many years, and it has opened up many bids that once were very hard to get. Now is the time to apply. Certainly, at first it's not ideal. But that changes.
