Pat Morita and Kurtwood Smith are great examples on why actors should be cast on ability and not only type cast by the role they played in previous films. Both actors roles in TKK and Robocop are iconic to this day and I can't imagine anyone else playing their roles, especially Kurtwood as Clarence Boddicker.

Fun fact: Toshiro Mifune, the famous Japanese actor known for his role as the samurai, Yojimbo, was offered the part of Mr. Miyagi, but he came across as too stoic and rigid during his readings. Pat Morita not only came with a more peaceful demeanor, but was able to pull off Miyagi's natural sense of humor as well.

Demura Sensei just had a documentary film made about him, it is called The Real Miyagi. It is here on You Tube if you want see it. I highly recommend checking out 'Cobra Kai' if you haven't yet, they genuinely put effort into the series and made it something great, the characters from the films genuinely seem like themselves on the show. Great video btw, awesome content as always!
The Pat Morita story is even more amazing because he was SPECIFICALLY targeted for not getting the part. He was interviewed by another channel (Emmy tv legends?) where he retells the story. Morita tells stories extremely well and does awesome impressions. Hearing him speak in his actual voice, however, is the best! I highly recommend searching out Pat Morita interviews!

They've called it youtube premium in the UK and maybe Europe as a whole? But it's been about a year since I heard about Red, maybe they're gonna call it different things in other countries.
One fact about "get him a body bag" he did not mention: It was never uttered during filming. After the film's production, and editing was complete, the Director Avildsen needed soundbites to fill time. In comes Rob Garrison (in a sound studio booth), and out came the iconic line. Avildsen told him fans may forget his character, but will remember that (iconic) line forever. He was right. May they both R.I.P. 💖

Larry B. Fine He doesn't "just Google" the information. He paints a narrative that includes humor and personal anecdotes, along with some nice editing that is a far cry from channels that are all about the cash grab. I'm always entertained and have a good laugh.
Larry B. Fine A third grader could get 86K subs, script, edit, and produce content that entertains thousands of viewers per video...really? What I think the real issue you have is that he puts ads on his videos; why shouldn't he get paid for his efforts? You don't like him, great don't watch. You are in the minority. I'm assuming you produce original content without ads? Oh, you don't produce any videos...
Larry B. Fine Trolls are all the same: hide behind an avatar, say things they are too afraid to say in face to face interactions, and show absolutely zero initiative themselves. Trolls are critical, yet don't have the stones to put themselves out there for others to critique. And yes, I'm a big fan of positive and creative people, not nihilists who are afraid of the real world.
Nice video! (I love the entire trilogy. The ending in part 3, when Daniel does his "Kata", still gives me chills!) Yeah, the new Cobra Kai series is AWESOME! (9 days left until the second season begins!!!!!!!!!)
@ I agree. I try to give the boy some credit but he falls in the shadow of his father. I think his father is pretty entertaining but every time I see his son don't give him the credit that he deserves because he's in that shadow.
Just saw the two first seasons of Cobra Kai. It's really solid. It has a lot of the same feel, but is very much it's own thing still. Telling two grown men, that can't let go of the past.
#11 - Grandmaster Pat Johnson was running the ring in the tournament finale. He is current head of the National Tang Soo Do Congress. He also has choreographed many of the fight scenes in movies over the last 40 years, starting with Enter the Dragon. Go to Tangsoodomasters dot com for more of his accomplishments. Tang Soo Do Karate is different than the mixture of Karate and Kung Fu shown in the movie.
*"I guess time will tell how this one turns out?"* ...referring to the new critically acclaimed Cobra Kai TV show. Yeah right, as if you haven't already watched it when it came out 2 weeks ago! You already know it's great...Hence you making this new video about The Karate Kid.
Mr Miyagi Pat Morita was exactly like my Tae Kwon Do instructor. I don’t know who took off who. Mr Ooi was more like a life coach too. Had a profound influence on my life too.
If Pat Morita was alive today I could honestly see him in the UA-cam series as a regular character. But another interesting fact about the remake with Jaden Smith is that Will Smith was a producer on the movie which is most likely why Jaden Smith got the role.
It baffles me that no one seems to point out that the Jackie Chan/Jayden Smith reboot of the movie was entirely wrong. Chan's character taught the boy Kung Fu, not Karate. Kung Fu is from China and Karate, of course, is Okinawan/Japanese. If they'd wanted to stay true to the original, they'd have had the child be taught Karate again, like in the original. Or at least name the film the correct "Kung Fu Kid".
Oklahoma Hoss When the movie was presented to the Chinese government for approval to show in their theaters, the Chinese officials demanded the name be changed for that same reason. I agree with you 100% as calling the movie Karate Kid was being disrespectful to both martial arts systems. This was pointed out to the movie makers, but they only thumbed their noses.
It also doesn't hurt when your father is a Hollywood A-lister (Smith) and he wants the most popular A list Asian actor (Chan) around to star opposite his kid as a vehicle to jump start his career at 10 yrs old lol 🙄😒
I totally agree, I couldn't get pass that. I mean it wasn't an overly bad movie, maybe if they gave it a different name and made it a stand alone movie instead of a reboot
One thing I really like about the Chan-Smith remake is that it exists in the universe as the original films, but as a film! According to the creators of "Cobra Kai" anyway.
I don't know why but it really grates on me that, that movie with Jackie Chan is called Karate Kid when Jackie is actually teaching him Kung Fu not Karate. It should've been the Kung Fu Kid not Karate Kid.
They named it that probably for the name recognition, and it did great at the box office. you probably should try not to get too hung up on it. Also, the term kung fu literally means doing well at anything, not just a martial art. Jackie knows several

I met Pete beale from eastenders
I once met a guy who used to know a guy who knew another guy, that lived with Brad Pitt for a couple months.
I wish I could’ve met them
"In the upcoming TV series, JOHNNY IS BACK TO BRING BACK THE COBRA KAI DOME!!!!". Hilarious lol
Pat Morita was also a standup comic in the 50s-60s.
OMG Minty! Lol! "No one is getting out alive..." about the action figures ;) you crack me up.
“Yeah, Johnny!...”
“Get him a body bag!”... 🥋🥋
🤖🤓
Cyberman Bill *cackle
Pure classic, cobra Kai is good too.
10 things you didn't know about fortress (1985),plz.
I think we all know how Cobra Kai turned out! Amazing!
The "blueberry pie" scene, instantly brought my mind to another "american pie" situation. Lol
Minty! You download like a mad man, yet the quality is through the roof...that's why your channel is one of the best...
I know Minty is from Australia. That´s why in Europe we call it "up"load.
I second that, let's get this guy some more subs and views on avg.
That game was AWESOME!! I loved the rain. But man it was so hard!!!
Beat it several times
I swear I saw the blueberry pie scene before. Wonder if it was in the theatrical release?
Those songs... takes me back instantly!! Movie is why I started training back then
Nice video!
(I love the entire trilogy. The ending in part 3, when Daniel does his "Kata", still gives me chills!)
Yeah, the new Cobra Kai series is AWESOME! (9 days left until the second season begins!!!!!!!!!)
As a request, I'd love to see your 10 things about Cobra Kai.
Get him a bodybag! Now, so many years later, the line is quite funny! 😁
2010 version felt like a forced diversity remake. Nothing more, nothing less.
Sounds like a lot of modern reboots
And my girlfriend at the time said that she liked it better than the 1980's version. I got out of the theater shaking my head.
Have you seen Cobra Kai? It's awesome! It's even getting a second season this next month.
Only 3 movie endings bring tears to my eyes. Karate Kid being one of them...that close up of Mr Miyagi gets me every time!
The 80's were awesome.
I was able to beat The Karate Kid game every time
I played it.
Thanks for the video Minty. You sure do like your 80's movies. :0)
Having my coffee here in Philadelphia pa lol love these in the morning
Philly native here. Miss 80s Philly!
Kaibra co?... 0.55 lool
Just to make it perfectly clear absolutely love your videos
Oklahoma Hoss
When the movie was presented to the Chinese government for approval to show in their theaters, the Chinese officials demanded the name be changed for that same reason.
Hollywood is now filled with boot lickers for the Chinese government. So no wonder they made it in China. China owns Hollywood, heart and soul.
Best line in the movie, "Johnny, you're a cream puff!"
Karate kid remake wouldn’t be pointless if they changed the title to “kung fu kid” lol
Ralph turned DOWN Marty mcfly!? Bet he will NEVER forget that error, lol🙃
Maybe it wasn't an error. Maybe the movie wouldn't have worked as well with him in the lead role.
Marty McWho ?
If only he could go back in time.
Back to the future
One thing I really like about the Chan-Smith remake is that it exists in the universe as the original films, but as a film! According to the creators of "Cobra Kai" anyway.
Terrific intro, I Minty!...I actually got tears eyed!
