@@tariqxl Die hard was supposed to be Ol' Blue Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra. Because it was based on the book that was the follow-up to the detective, which was made into a movie starring Sinatra. It was originally called nothing lasts forever if memory serves, and it is, amazingly, better than the movie in many ways.
I love them all. You watch rigs go from a broken suicidal man to finding his humanity in murtagh family. Then him finding his own love. In #4 them both talking about how they are too old but saying how they cant just walk away. "How did he take my gun apart with one move?" "Ok let's go ask him"

I think the point of Lethal Weapon 3 was to show the progression of Riggs from a suicidally depressed person to the happy go lucky person he was before his wife died. His friendship with Roger Murtaugh is what helped him recover from his sadness. Also in part 3 Riggs met his future wife, giving him purpose again. i liked the message of hope. I saw Lethal Weapon three times in the theater when it came out. It was a great film and a product of the times. Michael Karen, Eric Clapton and David Sanborn created a great score that compliments the action and characters( a theme for Martin Riggs and a theme for Roger Murtaugh). I have been looking for the complete score that includes the chase and fight scenes(it wasn’t in the original soundtrack when it came out). The fight scene between Riggs and Joshua included, I think, three fighting styles (tae kwondo, Gracie jiujitsu, and Jailhouse Rock( a system created by prison inmates)and it took 4 nights to film. You could feel those punches. Director Richard Donner had a lot of television credits behind him. He directed episodes of The Man From U.N.C.L.E.. My favorite episodes were The Quadipartite Affair and The Giuoco Piano Affair. I didn’t watch the Lethal Weapon series. I felt that it shouldn’t have been a series. The original intention was to introduce Lethal Weapon to a new audience. That was a mistake, in my opinion because I didn’t expect what I saw when I saw it in the theater. I felt many things watching the film. I felt for both Riggs and Murtaugh. Their differences were the highlight of the film. The two share two commonalities; they were both military men and they were both cops. But Riggs was Green Beret trained and knows how to fight and is skilled with guns. Riggs is a tragic figure being a widower no amount of elite combat training can ever prepare him for the loss of a loved one. I enjoyed all of the movies. The films after the first two went the comedic route but in my opinion, as long as we see Riggs and Murtaugh, we can expect the unexpected.
One of my favorite Buddy Cop Movie Franchise . Last Year during year end in December i re watched all the 4 Movies. Liked them all. Thanks for this video Minty.

Agreed... Funnily enough, I didn't think there was anyone else other than Bruce Willis that could possibly had played the role of John McClane. I hadn't even thought about Mel Gibson till now... But I think he might also had been great in that role
As always a solid video! Thank you. Whatever people might think about Gibson this days, he was absolutely amazing actor back in the day. Lethal Weapon series is one of my most favorite movie series as a whole. Yeah, all four movies. xD I understand why some people might not think highly about LW3 and 4, but I feel like making them different was a good choice: the times had changed and characters had changed as well. In a manner of speaking, it was like a series, where character went through the development from point A to point B. And I also love that LW4 ended up on a high note.
@@Kthomasritchie Yes! Freebie And The Bean is the BEST buddy cop movie, in my opinion. I was afraid, that I was the only one who still remembered it. I've loved it, since I was a kid.
@@Kthomasritchie "Running Scared" (1986) with Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines really laid out the blueprint that Lethal Weapon picked up on. Allegedly it directly influenced Donner to lighten the tone of LW.
Running Scared with Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines really started to duo cop fighting genre. I will not give that honor to 48 Hours because Eddie Murphy's character was a convict not a cop like Nick Nolte's character was. Plus Running Scared is the first salt and pepper combo police movie too.
Minty, I wasn't keen on you at first (sorry, I am ashamed of myself) but... you have won me over! I love you and your videos, I feel like you're part of my life now. Keep going, mate! You'll win us all over in the end. Merry Crimbo!
Good morning Minty! I thought you might enjoy knowing that this film,"Lethal Weapons" is a sure fire cure for a massive hangover. More specifically, the filming of this fun little flick. The opening scene with the girls at the top of a tall circle shaped tower, was filmed in Long Beach, California. And they used a dummy for the scene of the girl jumping from the tower. I didn't know any of this the early morning after the insane party, an hour worth of sleep and me walking to work with a steamy cuppa of coffee and a throbbing headache. My coffee flew when I looked up two blocks away and saw this blond taking a dive from the top balcony of the "Circle Tower". Damn near killed myself trying to get her help, only to discover a film crew and not a body. The only thing that died that morning was my hangover. I was amazingly fine to work the next 20 hours without a single hitch.
Another Lethal weapon/Die Hard fact is that the Beretta 92 used by Riggs and McCLane is the exact same gun used in both movies. These two movies are strangely tangled in to each other.
Indeed, the same armory house (Stembridge Gun Rentals), worked on both movies, in addition to the prop Berretta 92F pistol being the same(minus the grip plates being different in Die Hard), the H&K MP5A3 submachine guns(in reality civilian HK 94A3 9mm semi-automatic carbines chopped and converted to look and operate like their more famous cousins) were the same props being used again.
One of my favorite franchises. ALL were great. The tv series tarnished the legacy. T They didn't have original cast members from the films and give them cameo appearances or where they are the leaders and focus on new detectives in their former positions. The series has been cancelled for about 2 years now.
I like the direction the movies went. The more invested you are in the characters, the less important the action is. And as for Lethal Weapon 4... JET LI!!! nuff said
Lethal Weapon was also dedicated to the memory of Dar Robinson who is legendary stuntman. The opening scenne when the girl fall was filmed using some of the stunt work Dar pioneered. FYI.
Die Hard and Lethal Weapon are the new official movies of Christmas, replacing Miracle on 34rd Street and It's A Wonderful Life. They look and feel as if they take place in the same cinematic universe.
"Their gonna bust Dixie, their gonna bust Dixie" LOL I love this series and will stop every time it is on TV. Lethal Weapon 3 is my FAVORITE! Let's not talk about #4...I hated it for a while, but watched it recently and it wasn't AS bad as I remember.
I always wanted to tell at the TV watching part 4. Why did Riggs suddenly forget that he knows martial arts? I mean he's into Tai Chi, and all that killer stuff.
Eric Clapton also used David Sanborn as the sax player in the sound track that we all recognize. Roger Waters used both Eric Clapton and Sanborn for his album Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking released in 1984. The similarities are there for sure. Pros and Cons was first.
There have been many great movies that went on to become franchises; following up with sequels that were arguably even better, but I am of the mind that great movies and characters should stand alone. As much as I enjoyed the second installments of franchises like Lethal Weapon, Star Wars, Die Hard, Terminator, Alien, Superman, Dirty Harry, Rocky, Indiana Jones, and a host of others, I would have been perfectly fine if they never went further than their original installment. There is just something about a truly great movie that is, "One & Done" that IMHO elevates it to an entirely different level.
This is one of my favorite NonChristmas Christmas films! Yeah I agree with you, Minty that ONLY the first two films are watchable. The only good thing about the third one is where Riggs says, "I'm Chaos and he's Mayhem. We're a duel act.".
Sounds to me like you would prefer that the Lethal Weapon Movies, each of them, be a continuous A-TEAM episode where there is little to no comedy and zero story, and zero character development. The 'Characters' of these movies were written first, they were ALWAYS meant to develop and evolve. Riggs was NEVER supposed to remain depressed, lonely and suicidal, and the evidence of that fact was hinted throughout Lethal Weapon 1 and 2.
You're not wrong, but it's similar to the argument about 28 Days Later not being a real zombie movie, because the "zombies" are living humans with a rage virus. Eddie Murphy's character is not a cop, but he does ride along with a cop and does cop type things. I'm on the fence whether it can be considered a buddy cop movie though

I find the Lethal Weapon Franchise to be about Riggs's healing journey from suicidal broken cop to potential family man. In the first movie, he's broken and suicidal from having lost his wife. He meets Roger, a stable family man and respected cop, where he finds a much needed friend to help him heal. Over the course of the movie, Roger comes to understand his new partner, and helps pull him back from the edge to the point where Riggs confesses at the end, "I'm not suicidal". Clearly, he was earlier in the movie, but now he's found something to live for, his friendship with Roger. In the second movie, Riggs is still healing, but still has somethings to come to terms with. One being the death of his wife. He meets Rika, who teaches him that he can move on and find love again with another woman. However, she's taken away from him just like his wife was, and ironically, by the same person. This second installment is about Riggs avenging his wife's death and learning how to love again after facing so much loss. In the third movie, as corny as it is, Riggs is trying to find himself now. He's healed from his suicidal and broken tendencies, and he's learned to love again. He says it best when he confronts Roger, "I have three beautiful children. I love them, and they're yours!" He sees something in Roger's life that he desperately wants for himself: a family. He has it to a degree, but not his own. It's borrowed, in a manner of speaking. He's also desperate to keep it since Roger is thinking about retiring in this movie. Riggs is, in my belief, trying to overcome his fear of loss. He lost his wife, lost his lover, lost his home, and is about to lose his friend and family. Roger is convinced to stay, and Riggs can now move on to the next stage of his life. In the fourth movie, Riggs is learning what to do with his new family. He's going to be a father for the first time. He's also getting older and not able to be as physical as he used to be. In a manner of speaking, he's starting to mature into the man he would've been had his wife not been murdered before the first movie. However, he's still holding onto one last piece: can he really be happily married to another woman? That's where Leo's story about Froggy comes into play. Through Leo, Riggs learns that he doesn't love Lorna in the same way as he loved Victoria or Rika, but not only that, he doesn't have to, nor will he ever love all three women the same way. He's finally able to put his wife's memory to rest, and live his life with Lorna. When you look at all four movies together from the perspective of Riggs healing and coming to terms with his wife's death, it makes the series really good and enjoyable. I can relate to it due to something that I went through in the early 2000s that didn't truly overcome until 2019. If you're just looking at the Lethal Weapon franchise for the buddy cop aspect, you're going to be disappointed. The story is about Riggs and his healing and growth.
Definitely love the first two movies! I don’t really remember the third movie and I think I missed number four! However I have very fond memories of the first two! Thank you for making this video and sharing your thoughts!
This genre existed before the 1980's, and 48 Hours, Lethal Weapon, etc. There's a great film, called Freebie And The Bean, that's about 2 mismatched cops. It's from 1974 and stars James Caan and Alan Arkin. It's frigging hilarious and full of action. You're missing out, if you like these kinds of films, but haven't seen it.
It has been suggested that Donner was influenced to give Lethal Weapon a lighter tone by the classic buddy cop movie that came out the year before and REALLY kicked off the late 80's buddy-cop trend - "Running Scared", with Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines. It's great, they have amazing chemistry. Also, the Lethal Weapon TV is pretty good for what it is, in my opinion.
As for the TV series, when the show had Clayne Crawford portraying Martin Riggs it was quite good. I never thought that Damon Wayans was a good choice for Murtaugh, but he was passable. What killed the show was the off screen animosity between its leads and Crawford was forced off the show. Without him, it endured another sorry season and then was put down. Sad.
Yeah from what I heard the actor was getting too method and arguing and picking fights and being hard to work with so I can understand why they got rid of him but the replacement felt off because it almost seemed like the were combing Riggs and Murtough into one character most of the time he was only slightly different then Riggs but occasionally especially in his first couple of episodes he seemed similar to Murtough the lack of creativity with the new character combined with killin Riggs is what killed the show.
@@GrimmShadowsII Now that you mention it, I think you're completely right about that character, they killed the show with sloppy writing and even sloppier character development, writing was completely lame!!

Minty been watching 10 things you didn’t know for months now, and you never disappoint big fan keep up the good work ,would like you to 10 things you didn’t know about saw that would be awesome that if you haven’t covered the saw films Merry Xmas Minty
You forgot the best line ever. "I'm too old for this s#1t."
Man gotta say Mel Gibson as John McLane doesn’t sound too bad as much as I love Die Hard
Agreed... Funnily enough, I didn't think there was anyone else other than Bruce Willis that could possibly had played the role of John McClane. I hadn't even thought about Mel Gibson till now... But I think he might also had been great in that role
EastBay MauiBoy agree
@@eastbaymauiboy Eddie Murphy.
I love how shane black had a serious tone for this film but then the franchise he played in witch was more serious was turned into a comedy
One of the best Christmas movies of all time.
As always a solid video!
Thank you.
Whatever people might think about Gibson this days, he was absolutely amazing actor back in the day.
Lethal Weapon series is one of my most favorite movie series as a whole. Yeah, all four movies. xD
I understand why some people might not think highly about LW3 and 4, but I feel like making them different was a good choice: the times had changed and characters had changed as well. In a manner of speaking, it was like a series, where character went through the development from point A to point B.
And I also love that LW4 ended up on a high note.
Batman Returns should be a Christmas movie as well.
Batman Returns, Trading Places, While You Were Sleeping, Lethal Weapon, Gremlins, First Blood are all Christmas movies
@@kristinmarie862 apparently now Iron Man 3 as well.
MINTY! You should do The Long Kiss Goodnight in that case.
Great frikken movie!!
Yup!
Love that movie! So very underrated!!!!!
I adore that film! Geena Davis and Samuel L Jackson are awesome!!!
This movie is great, yet has disappeared from streaming
Absolutely love all 4 of these movies always used to watch them with my mum and now she’s no longer with us will always remind me of her :)
48 Hours can't be the start of the "buddy cop" genre because Eddie Murphy's character wasn't a cop.
Freebie and the Bean (1974) was arguably the start of the genre.
@@Kthomasritchie Yes! Freebie And The Bean is the BEST buddy cop movie, in my opinion. I was afraid, that I was the only one who still remembered it. I've loved it, since I was a kid.
Technically not, but aside from that, it meets requirements.
@@Kthomasritchie "Running Scared" (1986) with Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines really laid out the blueprint that Lethal Weapon picked up on. Allegedly it directly influenced Donner to lighten the tone of LW.
@@Dr0p0fahat Lethal Weapon was done in 1984. It came before Running Scared. Although Running Scared was a great movie.
These 3 things made Lethal Weapon great:
1.) Christmas
2.) The Saxaphone
3.) Gary Busey
I have all 4 of these on VHS. The tapes are still in good shape!
I miss my VCR
6:25, Busey is still crazy till this day!😂😂🤣🤣🤣
That motorcycle accident really messed with his head, literally and figuratively...
I remember watching this movie with my late father. Oh how miss him and watching 80s action movies. 😢

Love that movie
The best double feature EVER was at the Union City drive in, LETHAL WEAPON followed by FATAL ATTRACTION. Will never forget that day.
Running Scared with Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines really started to duo cop fighting genre. I will not give that honor to 48 Hours because Eddie Murphy's character was a convict not a cop like Nick Nolte's character was. Plus Running Scared is the first salt and pepper combo police movie too.
ohhhh nooooo....
JET LI!!! nuff said
Well if that's the case then Rambo 1 is a Christmas movie then.
Some movies take place during Christmas, some movies are about Christmas.
That'd be like saying Batman Forever is a Halloween movie because of the trick or treat scene. Lol
well it makes sense Rigs is less suicidal, he found a new love.
Could you do Escape From L.A. finally? 😁
I know one fact that movie was not any good at all.
10 things you didn’t know about Road To Perdition (Highly underrated movie)
I love the Lethal Weapon series, even still to this day. Thanks for sharing this.
They are in their car over there.
4 is ok, it's just the ending. Its terrible. " we're not friends, we're family" aw feck off!
#4 is definitely the weakest of the series.
Always liked part 2 joss aukland good bad guy
I always wanted to tell at the TV watching part 4. Why did Riggs suddenly forget that he knows martial arts? I mean he's into Tai Chi, and all that killer stuff.
Lethal Weapon 5 is in the making I think . I keep hearing rumors that they plan to make a Lethal Weapon 5
If they use the original characters, Murtagh will have to be in a nursing home cos if he was 50 in the first one, he'd be 83 in this one.
@@bryndal36 they'd have to set a certain time frame I'd set it 10 years after 4
Please, god, no.

Better do it soon....
Danny Glover is getting old!
Die Hard is more of a Christmas movie since the motif is far more prominent (e.g. the soundtrack).
Eric Clapton also used David Sanborn as the sax player in the sound track that we all recognize. Roger Waters used both Eric Clapton and Sanborn for his album Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking released in 1984. The similarities are there for sure. Pros and Cons was first.
Good details. Pros and cons is a class album.
Thanks for the videos this year and I hope you and your family have a lovely Christmas
But can you call 48 hours a buddy cop movie? Considering Eddie Murphy's character wasn't a cop but a convict. Nick nolte was the cop.
1987 was a great year for movies.
Minty you forgot to mention that Christopher Reeve was considered for Riggs before Gibson.
Wait, really? Christopher Reeve would've been a very interesting choice.
There was also alot more people they wanted then just reeve
That would had sucked
alekesam Richard Donner did also direct Superman
That would of been a shitty choice.
The actress who played Amanda Hunsaker, the junkie who jumped off the balcony in the beginning of the movie, later played Woody's girlfriend in "Cheers"

As always Minty - thank you for doing these vids. Sadly my life has taken another turn for the worse, so seeing these vids you do really cheers me up.
I didn't forget Lethal Weapon for Christmas, I just saw it again for probably the 25th time last night before your video posted! LOL!!
I actually liked all 4 movies
My humble opinion, I like the entire franchise.
Another great 80s Christmas movie of mine along with Gremlins and Die Hard! Love it and it's sequels!
Awesome film and had the pleasure of meeting Danny Glover who is a lovely and humble man
This was referenced in the beginning of "Looney Tunes Back in Action"!
Definitely love the first two movies! I don’t really remember the third movie and I think I missed number four! However I have very fond memories of the first two! Thank you for making this video and sharing your thoughts!
7:05, he died in those movies!🤣🤣🤣
Lethal weapon and die hard or one of my most favorite movies😹🤣😂
As for the TV series, when the show had Clayne Crawford portraying Martin Riggs it was quite good. I never thought that Damon Wayans was a good choice for Murtaugh, but he was passable. What killed the show was the off screen animosity between its leads and Crawford was forced off the show. Without him, it endured another sorry season and then was put down. Sad.
The TV show was, so so, It sucked when they killed Riggs off and brought the other dude. IT's now cancelled here in the US, that is a good thing!!
