Sean Chandler Talks About Wax on, wax off, side to side, uppppp, dooooown! So many lines from the original Karate Kid movie I still remember to this day. I also watch it many times each year and I agree with your rankings of the best 3 movies Sean....except I would put Karate Kid 3 at 4 for its rewatchability (is that even a word) and put the Next Karate Kid at 5.
Karate Kid very good karate kid 2 very good Karate Kid 3 watchable The Karate Kid 4 unwatchable for me I've got it from my collection but no point Karate Kid remake not my cup of tea. Cobra Kai very good can't wait for S3
Season 1 was way better , I didn't like the high school fight scene at the end of season 2 , the karate was way too advance for the skill level of those kids and that fight was a little too slapstick and unrealistic. All 10 episodes of season 1 were great..where season 2 had a few misses
I loved the Karate Kid 2010, perhaps it‘s because I was a young kid getting into movies when it came out but I just watched it again a few weeks ago and I still had a lot of fun, to a large part because of Jackie chan lol
1. The Karate Kid II (personal preference sorry Chozen is my favourite Villain) 2. Karate Kid 3. Kung Fu Kid (The Karate Kid 2010) 4. Karate Kid III 5. The Next Karate Kid
I'm surprised how many people are hating on the 2010 remake. Most people I know who grew up with the originals really like the remake. I agree, it's a little weird that it's not called the "Kung fu kid" but to most Westerners, they are treated as the same, and I think they just wanted to make things simple and show that it is based off the 1980's movie. Anyway here's my list : 1. Karate Kid (2010) - I love that they actually show him have to move to another country (China) and show the difficulties he has to face. Jackie Chan is a great teacher/man in the kid's life and the I always love watching the tournament. 2. Karate Kid 1 +2 : The OG will always be a classic. I like part 2 just as much cause I like the idea of them going to Okinawa. Plus the villian and Miyagi's old friend were interesting imo. It is somewhat a guilty pleasure of mine 3. Part 3. Bringing back Kreese was pretty interesting, and the conflict between Miyagi and Daniel 4. The next Karate Kid. Only saw it once. It was just so so from what I remember, definitely the worst though. Cobra Kai might be better than all of them. It's great so far, and I love how the continuing stories bring such a different perspective on Johnny's life and him as a character.
My ranking ( from best to worst ) is: 1. Cobra Kai season 2 2. Cobra Kai season 1 3. The karate kid 4: Karate kid part 2 5. Karate kid ( 2010 ) 6. Karate kid part 3 7. The next karate kid
I also love the TV series even more than any of the films. The episode where Johnny reunites with his former gang and they are all now good men amd happy people, moved me to tears.
5. The Next Karate Kid 4. The Karate Kid (Remake) 3. The Karate Kid 3 2. The Karate Kid 2 1. The Karate Kid Although, the original is the only one I actually like, honestly.
I strongly disagree. The Next Karate Kid is a very underrated movie and I would consider it to be better than kk3, which was a poorly written, poorly acted(the villains were just way over the top and Daniel just seems to be nothing more than a punching bag for the bad guys). The girl did not even become a love interest for Daniel and was just there to be there. In contrast, The Next Karate Kid was a pretty solid movie--not great, but not bad either. Hilary Swank and Pat Morita do a great job in their roles. Pat Morris gets more screen time than the others and he makes the most of it. You could make a checklist list of all of the wise and funny phrases which he says. Adding a girl makes for an interesting dynamic and besides, I much prefer the character Julie over the wimpiness of Daniel. The transformation of Julie being a jerk and angry to having a more positive outlook on life was nice character development. The monks were funny and good lessons were taught there. The response that Miyagi gave to Julie when she said it was stupid that the monks preserved prey mantises was very powerful. "Nations and people fighting and killing each other because of greed, anger, revenge and differences is stupid. Respecting all life and giving it the opportunity to live is anything but stupid" (this is not the exact qoute, but you get the idea). The arrow catch by Miyagi was cool and the scene with him picking her out a dress was hilarious. The monks controlling the bowling the bowling balls brought me to laughter. Miyagi walking in on Julie demonstrated the difference between handling a girl vs a guy. The scenes with the hawk were well done and I found it touching when it was released and Julie had to say goodbye. I also thought the guy who played the main bully did a nice job playing his part. Michael Ironside, while definitely no John Kreese, did a fine acting job with what he had to work with. The soundtrack was excellent and the cinematography did not disappoint---from the eagle soaring in the air, the environment in and around the monastery, to the car blazing in flames by the dock, it was a visual treat. This movie was my personal favorite of the four, but ranking in terms of movie quality it goes KK1/KK2, KK4, KK3. In conclusion, while far from a perfect film and admittedly flawed in some areas "The Next Karate Kid" is not nearly as bad as some people say and is a pretty enjoyable movie. Don't listen to the extremists and haters, this movie is definitely worth your time and is arguably the funniest of the four.
The remake is definitely my favourite, I just absolutely love it. Before The Foreigner, this was the only time I’d seen Chan really acting and personally I love the brutality of this movie, it gives it a lot of weight and gravitas. I’m also not a huge fan of the original’s filmography but that’s also my preference for post-80s films generally.
Wow... I don't even know what to say to that. The remake is sooo bad. The acting was bad from everybody aside from Jackie Chan. And what brutality are you talking about, exactly?
My list (best to worst) 1. Karate Kid II 2. Karate Kid 3. Karate Kid Remake 4. Karate Kid III 5. The Next Karate Kid Loved the stakes in part 2, & the emotion, part 1 was the OG, remake was more modern & Jackie Chan was good (honestly the first one I watched, I remember seeing it in theaters for the 1st time with my siblings & grandmother) I liked 3 a lot for some reason, the fight in the dojo I always thought was dope & then there’s that other one I don’t speak of...
Interesting that your pick is part 2! I think if you reverse the first two you have my list. It's cool that they're all on Netflix now (aside from the one we don't speak of...)
GerudoKing I had no idea they were all on there, I appreciate you telling me that. Part 1 is classic, but something about part 2 was just perfect, it’s like Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2, both are good, but the second one improved.
The original Karate Kid is a masterpiece. The chemistry between the characters is perfect. Karate Kid 2 is my favorite because of the setting and the emotional content, also the chemistry between Daniel and Kumiko (Idc, they are soulmates). I used to loved the third one as a child. Rewatching it as an adult makes me wonder wtf was wrong with me as a kid. That being said, I still like it just for the nostalgia and the original characters. The Next Karate Kid was aiggghhht. Again, I still like this one for the nostalgia and Pat Morita. Never watched the remake. Cobra Kai is awesome.
I think Jaden being younger made sense because it made you understand how helpless he was and it only made the movie more intense and more exciting. Which I felt like the original lacked. It felt like Daniels's reason for fighting was less bullying and more trying to get the girl. And while Jaden's character was a young foreigner who was easy to be bullied. Which made Jaden's problem seem like more of a threat. He had something to prove. That he can't be bullied. It felt like Daniel was proving he was popular or cool.
I guess you haven't seen the original very many times if that's what you got from it. Daniel never cared about popularity or being cool. He was just being himself and got caught up in a bad situation after having just moved to a new city and having no friends. He absolutely WAS getting bullied and also made the mistake of trying to retaliate before he could really defend himself, showing that he is not a perfect character. This is exactly what makes the Cobra Kai show so good, because he IS a flawed character, and it's also what made the original 3 as great as they were. Jaden's character was made to seem FAR too innocent aside from occasionally mouthing off to his mom and leaving his jacket on the floor. The movie tried to FORCE the audience to be sympathetic towards an obnoxious character. And yes... he was VERY obnoxious. He was very young, so it wasn't necessarily his fault but nobody can convince me that he was a good child actor.
@@TheJokesterSCR Well said. When I watched it, it looked like a low quality ripoff of the original, with many scenes being shot for shot remakes. Though the point was never to be a good film, but to make money, which it did.
I know people might hate me for this, but I like the 2010 karate kid alot. The fight scenes are more entertaining. It's like the Darth Maul fight vs Obi-wan and Vader. Obi-wan and Vader were slow. Then again, the effects were knew back then. It was hard to animate. But with the Darth Maul battle, it brought a whole new meaning to lightsaber fights.
Never seen any of the sequel so I can’t talk about the quality of those but I kind of always felt like the original karate kid was meant to be a standalone movie. I’m not the biggest fan of that movie but I understand why it’s considered an 80s classic and I just don’t really feel like there was much of a need to continue the story. Obviously it’s one of those cases where the original is so popular that they had to keep going
ivan forget about me i think he could do it fair to put it in 3 but in my opinion part 3 was enjoyable, the remake has bland villains and non redeemable characters
I strongly disagree. The Next Karate Kid is a very underrated movie and I would consider it to be better than kk3, which was a poorly written, poorly acted(the villains were just way over the top and Daniel just seems to be nothing more than a punching bag for the bad guys). SmasherBoy i agree, but the remake isn’t enjoyable in my opinion, i swapped the remake with part 3. The remake might be a better movie, but it wasn’t enjoyable. I think part 3 had a very silly and enjoyable plot
Honestly, I would rank the films as they were released. Part 1(Great). Part 2(Good). Part 3(So bad it's good). Part 4(Not good....but guilty pleasure). Cobra Kai(Great-On par with Original film) 2010 film(Does not exist in this dojo).
The thing I love about karate kid is the type of humor of miyagi. Like when he uses the knife hand to chop off the top of the beer bottles, they could’ve had him say “I won’t tell you” but no, they had him say something funny, like “Don’t know. First time.”
Caleb Dickerson no 3 is not horrible at all, the guys annoying but that’s just his character. I think the order should go karate kid, karate kid 3, then karate kid 2. I like the story of 3 better
5. The Next Karate Kid 4. Karate Kid 3 3. Karate Kid 2 2. Karate Kid 2010 1. Karate Kid Guess me and Rotten Tomatoes are more similar than I hoped. Either way, I love them all, and when I feel like rewatching one, I rewatch the whole series.
In My Opinion - #5 - The Karate Kid (Jaiden Smith) Not even a karate kid, completely unwatchable #4 - The Next Karate Kid i'm not quite sure on this, but Ralph Macchio is always gonna be The Karate Kid #3 - The Karate Kid Part III I find the main villian to be too over the top #2 - The Karate Kid Part II its a great film, Daniel finally found a decent match #1 - The Karate Kid its the best around, Ralph Macchio is amazing, same with William Zapka and Elizabeth Shue
SubatomicMichief just switch 4 and 5 and you have the same list as mine. As for cobra Kai, I would probably put the two seasons below KK1 and KK2, but higher than the others
I have a similar guilty pleasure situation. While I admit that Back to the Future I and II are probably better, Back to the Future III is the one I've probably seen the most, and the one I classify as a guilty pleasure.
The difference is that Back to the Future III is actually a good sequel. Karate Kid 2 and 3 may be entertaining at times, but they're not that good - the plots are silly and ridiculous. But I'm glad that they didn't ignore the sequels and brought back the characters to Cobra Kai.
I personally loved the original karate kid trilogy. The sequels in my opinion were solid follow-ups to the original. The original will always be my favorite though.
The Karate Kid 3 is a guilty pleasure for sure! Terry Silver & Mike Barnes are hilariously evil villains. Is it a good movie? Absolutely not, but is an enjoyable watch unlike Hillary Swank's Karate Kid.
I strongly disagree. The Next Karate Kid is a very underrated movie and I would consider it to be better than kk3, which was a poorly written, poorly acted(the villains were just way over the top and Daniel just seems to be nothing more than a punching bag for the bad guys). I actually enjoy the 4th one more than part 3 because of the monks. If everything else was terrible I'd still enjoy the Zen Bowling scene. It's so stupid, dumb but hilarious.
I agree with original post. I watched both Karate Kid Part 3 & Next Karate Kid in the past 24 hours. The Next Karate Kid had weaker plot & one dimensional characters. The characters with growth were Julie & Mr Miyagi. What's the point of Alpha Elite? Their instructor was evil just because. Julie's karate looks more like a dance. Disappointing. The 3rd act was bloody awful. The only thing I like about the movie is Pat Morita. He has the best lines & is very funny here. The Karate Kid Part 3 had better plot & villain. Terry Silver was over the top at times (the maniacal laugh) but wow he's master manipulator. Daniel, Mr Miyagi, Mike Barnes all were conned by him. I really like Jessica more than Ali. She's self-reliant, sensible & athletic. I like Daniel in Part 3 more than in the OG because he didn't bait the antagonist.
I’m probably the odd man out, but Part III has always been my favorite 1. The Karate Kid Part III 2. The Karate Kid 3. The Karate Kid Part II 4. The Next Karate Kid 5. The Kung Fu Kid (I really don’t even claim this one)
Jaisen Weaver no a remake is when it’s the same characters but different portrayals. The fact that the 2010 film has different characters means it could be in the same timeline
Great video and list, here's mine: 5: The Next Karate Kid 4: The Karate Kid Part 3 3: The Karate Kid Part 2 2: The Karate Kid (Remake) 1: The Karate Kid (Original)
1. The Karate Kid (1984) 2. The Karate Kid (2010) 3. The Karate Kid part II 4. The Karate Kid part III 5. The Next Karate Kid Edit: Wow, my list was the same as yours
The remake of Karate Kid with Jackie Chan is actually "The Kung Fu Kid". Because of Cobra Kai, I want to watch all the Karate Kid movies now regardless of how they ranked because I like to keep up with the story of the whole franchise.
Kinda true though, I liked it the best - the karate kid 2010 remake was a bit unrealistic but, I especially liked it that mister Hans refused to strike those little punks and used their own strikes against even though, the bullies kept coming back for more after trespassing onto private property and already having dre at their mercy yet they kept going and didn't even try to escape until the bullies realised resistance is futile
Karate Kid: Amazing introduction to a saga Karate Kid II: Informative. Learned a lot about Mr. Miyagi's origin. And the deathmatch, in my opinion, was still the most intense final battle in the trilogy, mainly because it was a fight to the death. Karate Kid III: Great movie, except it, was a bit controversial. Putting Daniel's plot armor aside, he defeated a champion in his first tournament and nearly died back in Okinawa. And now they nerfed him so bad and was scared of Barnes for no reason. The Next Karate Kid: It was a good movie, but not as great as any of the original trilogy. Karate Kid (2010): It was actually the first Karate Kid film I've ever watched. I really like watching Jackie Chan when I was a kid, and I still do to this day. While it is a remake and not really a "karate" movie, it still holds a special place in my heart because it was the film that introduced me to the series. Cobra Kai: I can't really judge it since the series ain't over yet (hopefully they won't end it too soon because I love the series) But so far, the writers are on the right track.
They could have just called the remake "Kung Fu Kid" (or "Kung Fu Dream" as they named it in China) and add the subtitle "The Karate Kid Saga" if they really wanted to retain the "Karate Kid" label..
Karate Kid: Very good Karate Kid 2: Boring but watchable Karate Kid 3: Watchable but with a lamentable plot Karate Kid 4 (The Next Karate Kid): Sucks, but it has Hilary Swank The Karate Kid (2010): Bad, but still better than 2, 3, and 4 Cobra Kai: PERFECT, AWESOME. WONDERFULL
Wow. I agree with this video almost 100%. That’s pretty rare. I was afraid that you were going to put the remake on the bottom automatically. Surprisingly you felt about it almost the same as I did. The only difference is that I think being beat up as a little kid by other kids is something that is relatable to a lot of people. People have this idea that fighting is something that only older kids do. That’s not true. So I like this a lot. Nice work!
1. Karate Kid original 2. Cobra Kai Season 1 3. Karate Kid 2 4. Cobra Kai Season 2 5. Cobra Kai Season 3 6. Karate Kid (Jaden Smith remake) 7. The Next Karate Kid 8. Karate Kid 3
You're the Best, around, no one's ever gonna keep you down. You're the Best, around, no one's ever gonna keep you down. You're the Best, around, no one's ever gonna keep you down. That's a lyrical quote from The Karate Kid.
It was such a POWER MOVE to put cobra kai on Netflix. I would've(and many others) never seen it since its youtube red and a lot of people don't bother with that service, unlike Netflix.
I never thought I'd say a TV series made 30 years after the iconic movies would be better than the originals. Anyway the way I see it: 1. Cobra Kai S1 2. Cobra Kai S2 3. Karate Kid 4. Karate Kid 3 5. Karate Kid (2010) 6. Karate Kid 2 7. The Next Karate Kid I honestly don't know which Cobra Kai season was better. I picked S2 because of Kress and more great and funny moments but the final fight in the school was weird cause no way that all those kids were suddenly so good at fighting. It may also seem weird that I put Karate Kid 2 so low but before you hate, it's because I watched Karate Kid 2 only once a long time ago so I don't remember much of it but I will make sure to rewatch it soon and I suppose it will go higher up my list.
5. The Next Karate Kid 4. The Karate Kid Part 3 3. The Karate Kid [2010] 2. The Karate Kid Part 2 1. The Karate Kid I liked Part 3 when I was a kid. I grabbed the first two movies from Blockbuster when it was going out of business. I thought about grabbing the remake but I didn't feel like it. I can't see Cobra Kai because UA-cam Red isn't available in Canada. Cobra Kai should be released on DVD next year.
My ranking: 5. The Next Karate Kid (2/10) 4.The Karate Kid Part 3 (4/10) 3. The Kung Fu Kid (5/10) 2. The Karate Kid Part 2 (7/10) 1. The Karate Kid (9/10)
Sorry man but nothing beats the original so your little karate kid ll can be second but I don’t get why you like 2 should I re watch with an open mind?
5 The next Karate Kid 4 The Karate Kid (2010) 3 Karate Kid 2 2 Karate Kid 3 1 Karate Kid I like the movies better with cobra kai Strike First Strike Hard No Mercy Sir
I think the original was the best movie, story wise. But #3 is my favorite, since it was so unintentionally funny. Daniel's "Ode to Macaroni & Cheese" was classic.

Anyway here's my list :
1. Karate Kid (2010) - I love that they actually show him have to move to another country (China) and show the difficulties he has to face. Jackie Chan is a great teacher/man in the kid's life and the I always love watching the tournament.

@Jeeses99 cobra kai never dies

Loved the stakes in part 2, & the emotion, part 1 was the OG, remake was more modern & Jackie Chan was good (honestly the first one I watched, I remember seeing it in theaters for the 1st time with my siblings & grandmother) I liked 3 a lot for some reason, the fight in the dojo I always thought was dope & then there’s that other one I don’t speak of...
Interesting that your pick is part 2! I think if you reverse the first two you have my list. It's cool that they're all on Netflix now (aside from the one we don't speak of...)

I love Karate Kid 3.
The Karate Kid (2010) isn’t karate, it’s Kung Fu & that is so stupid.

@@sportsfaniguess154 the worst karate kid ever
Eh, I mainly liked it due to Jackie chan
@@alexandersveryown4760 i did, but. The movie isnt really good.

I actually enjoy the 4th one more than part 3 because of the monks. If everything else was terrible I'd still enjoy the Zen Bowling scene. It's so stupid, dumb but hilarious.
Hilary Swank is one of the best actors on earth but that movie is awful

It's called The Karate Kid because he knew karate before learning Kung Fu. He was learning Kung Fu to survive.

Karate Kid: Amazing introduction to a saga
Karate Kid II: Informative.

I liked Part 3 when I was a kid. I grabbed the first two movies from Blockbuster when it was going out of business. I thought about grabbing the remake but I didn't feel like it. I can't see Cobra Kai because UA-cam Red isn't available in Canada. Cobra Kai should be released on DVD next year.

The OG karate kid was amazing but I agree the Karate Kid (2010) is objectively also a great movie, despite it not technically being karate
I think the original was the best movie, story wise. But #3 is my favorite, since it was so unintentionally funny. Daniel's "Ode to Macaroni & Cheese" was classic.
Hell yeah
