    I think the croissant-like pastry in Italy is a cornetto (maybe someone more familiar knows?). Recently had an excellent pistachio croissant in Boston, so good! Not sure if that's a new thing but I'm a fan. I LOVE the almond croissants in France but I think I prefer pistachio because it wasn't as sweet. Probably a sacrilege to add pistachio in France unfortunately. Had a similar experience with blurting out Spanish in Italy. Sorry to all the Italians! Although we traveled to Italy once with a couple Spanish-only speaking family members and they had such an easy time communicating. Could almost have whole conversations with each person speaking their native language. Pretty cool! At least you were trying, the effort goes a long way 🥰

    6:00 I really relate to your Italian being messed up by your Spanish, Tony! I'm Dutch but my German was always quite good (started learning it from TV when I was very little). However, since learning Norwegian (my partner's other native language besides Dutch), my Norwegian keeps intruding whenever I travel to German and want to say something! So frustrating!

    • @faredrop

      No, if going to Venice, stay in Venice, eat in restaurants and buy from local retailers. The entry fee is to discourage day trippers who come to Venice, walk around whilst eating their own food and leave having spent nothing, the same goes for the Cruise ship passengers who go back on board to eat.

    • @annatomasso5226
      @annatomasso5226 28 днів тому +1

      @@robcherry6734 Actually wrong, last time I was in Venice I was talking to someone who grew up in Venice who says that the tourism industry is hurting the city, She recommends staying in a hotel on the outskirts and taking a water taxi or train into Venice. I think someone who grew up in Venice would know better than a tourist what is right for the city they were raised in.

    • @robcherry6734
      @robcherry6734 28 днів тому

      @@annatomasso5226 No, sorry, we go at least once a year, often for weeks at a time, no local would ever advise you to stay on the mainland and get a water taxi unless they own a water taxi company ( as each ride costs €100 per trip on average).
      We always stay in local apartments, rented from locals who pay the taxes too ( rental contract often comes with wax seals and ribbons showing taxes paid :-) and try to eat in restaurants and bars recommended by the locals themselves. We’re going back in a few weeks for the end of the Biennialle , and, again, will be staying in a small. apartment owned by a local .
