Great video! I did almost the exact same setup as you with ExtremeRate shells lol I was able to play Luigi's Mansion, but I have the LaserBear BlueRetro mod installed so I don't need to use the 8BitDo adapter! I'm sure 8BitDo will come out with some good firmware updates soon enough!
All 8bitdo mod kits had this kind of problem, eventually they will update the firmware of the controller and of the receiver, so it will work perfect. I was going to rush and buy one mod kit, I will wait one year for the updates so when I buy this hopefully the issue has been resolved.
The triggers regiatering slight inputs in luigis mansion could be that the analog sliders arent lubed well enough and you can fix it with some WD40 (Ive done this it works, fixed my oem). Otherwise it could be cause by that reconnecting issue in which case idk
A little bummed I wont be able to use my og thumbstick caps but thats a fair trade of for the stick to click in! I can finally play lego starwars on pc and not have to use the autorun function with my GC controller, super stoked! Great video mate
Imagine if brooks or 8bitdo creates a kit for the Elite 2. Change out the sticks, and you've got a great controller for any console for years, and no dongles!
White and light grey gamecube controllers have slightly lighter colored sticks and grey buttons than say a indigo or black controller. That said 8bitdo's stick is still a little darker than that standard grey. Also iteresting that you find the more tactile Z button preferably. It really bothers me lol.
@@pqsk Yes and no, it is like their other dongles, cause they do work that way, going all the way back to the NES/SNES receivers they work as bluetooth controller adapters on PC
@@HKT-4300 well I should correct myself in what I wrote. I meant the retro receivers and mod kits only. I downloaded the manuals to both. Unless it’s a hidden feature, the manuals mention nothing of wired. I know what you mean. On the non retro adapters and controllers you do have wired option in some modes/platforms. But these retro ones are more limited.
0:34 Why didn't 8bitdo make a receiver for their N64 controller mod kit? Just to use it on a real N64 requires a reciever from a separate company and paired with at least 8bitdo's hall effect stick I think messes with the stick values from what I seen from benchmark tests. That's why I only bought the stick by itself and kept my N64 controller wired. It feels like 8bitdo originally made that kit with only Nintendo Switch Online in mind, saw the success of that, then made the kit for GCN controllers, and then they added in the receiver since the only use case would be on Gamecubes, Wiis, and that usb adapter for Smash 4 and Ultimate. I hope they go back and make one if it means the stick issue is fixed and maybe they can throw in memory card support.
I am dying for a n64 receiver, I have the retro blue receiver, I don’t like it to much, but is the only way so far I know to use my mod kit on a real n64. And also 1 button didn’t work, I had to wait like 1 year for an update, finally it works, the rumble doesn’t work I think, but so far works fine.
I've been having the same disconnection issue and I believe it's the firmware of the receiver, not the controller. I tested using Alien Hominid, which explicitly calls you out every time that the controller disconnects. It seems like its caused by a buffer issue on the receiver: if too much input is coming in, it just bails out. The same thing happened when I connected a Switch Pro. Honestly a bit bummed, since it made Super Monkey Ball unplayable for me, but hopefully that will get patched for the receiver.
I don’t know how many people know this but the white controller & some other come with lighter sticks, x, y, start, L, R, & d-pad buttons. The rest are are all dark.
I have that same issue in Melee where it snaps the cursor back disconnects it really quick. Using the mod kit on my switch, it's perfect. Definitely an issue with the receiver and they should release a firmware update fixing it.

What do you have your blue retro settings set to for this controller ?
Are you using Switch or Android mode when connecting to the blue retro?
Bruuuh I thought about finally doing an extremerate shell mod with this kit too 😭 great minds think alike
I can't wait to start using this mod kit. It's awesome. I've been wanting to have the original Gamecube controller wireless for years
Excellent video! Love the eXtremeRate shells. The Gamecube and GBA SP ones have such a nice texture to me.

damn i thought i was the only one coming up with the idea

Sick! I've got a GC controller with busted sticks. This seems like a good use for it

Just a remainder, I read on 8bitdo Subreddit that the PCB uses switch bluethooth input. That means it doesnt reconizes analog triggers.
The analog triggers have worked for me, I tested with Mario sunshine and melee
That only matters when using it on switch.
USB c port on the receiver is to update the firmware. The pcb should have one too
Pretty sure you can also use it as a dongle on pc
@@smallspud68 I'm assuming it's like all of their receivers and none of them work this way, it's just for firmware updates.

modkit sold out at the moment in their website 😢
Seems its back (for now), but ships end of October
@@NESMeki yea i saw it’s back in stock, and yea i saw it ships til Oct 28, i’ll still plan to get one soon
I hope they do this with the dreamcast cause I have 2 controllers that have water damage.
Would this work if connected to NGC USB adapter on PC? 🤔
Wonder if you can use it with a dead wavebird :o
Haven't tested, but I think you would need to make a cut in the shell to charge it
So you didnt mention anything about the analogue triggers and sunshine. Come on dude
Just tested today, they seem to work okay!
@@NESMeki good to know.
