The lyrics on this one were actually written by Alex Lifeson. There are a few songs here and there that the lyrics were written by either Geddy or Alex after Neil joined the group. This is also one of my favourite songs by them. I have another song for your hat. The band is Max Webster and the song is Battlescar and Rush join in on the song so it is the two bands playing together. Max Webster is another Canadian band who used to tour with Rush. Kim Mitchell the lead singer was actually in the documentary you watched. Another song for the hat. Caravan from the the time machine tour live in Cleveland. Cheers 🇨🇦
If you haven't already try 'Something for Nothing' off 2112. All 5 tracks on side 2 of 2112 are awesome. As you know side 1 is pretty special too making it a classic album which bought Rush their freedom to do whatever they wanted musically after that. A pivotal album.
Great reaction y’all!! Glad to hear some more RUSH!! I like the line the second time around …“you didn’t listen again” while Alex is playing the same notes!! As people have mentioned, Alex wrote the lyrics to this one and there’s another one called “different strings” from “TWENTY ONE TWELVE” where Geddy wrote the lyrics. I think that’s the last time they wrote lyrics for any more of their albums! I Enjoyed it!! Keep that Heisenberg hat close by… can’t wait for the next one!! Hope you enjoyed the Stones concert!! Be well and God Bless… from Texas!!
Hey guys - first, I wanted to say it's awesome to see a great father/son relationship with you two! Second, I would like to humbly suggest "Headlong Flight" (official lyric video) from the 2012 "Clockwork Angels" album. This was the final studio album by Rush. Take care guys!
🚀🚀🚀 YES, you are exactly right by calling this a "HIDDEN GEM". I've been a RUSH fan for 40 years, yet I always overlook this song when I need a Rush "fix." THANKS SO MUCH!
Another great Canadian group and we have always punched way above our weight in musical talent. You guys should feature another great Canadian band " Red Rider"and the song "Human Race" as they are a very underrated band to be sure. I enjoy your healthy conversations Rock on guys.. By the way the the name of the band might be under "Tom Cockerin and Red Rider" or just "Tom Cockerin", the founder and main song writer. Thanks.I might have spelled his last name wrong also.
Yyeess. 2112 was a FU to the record producers. Lessons is like we told you so. Recording producers wanted short radio playable songs and RUSH said 2112. The complete A-side is one song. Other gems hidden on the B-side with Lessons is Passageway to Bangkok, Twilight Zone. Enjoy
I am partial to early Geddy's singing too. I think the music press was unfairly hard on him, and some people, especially chicks, thought it was uncomfortably androgynous. So he actually did not get the kind of unanimous praise that Robert Plant ,Stephen Tyler, or Rob Halford recieved. check out 'Something for Nothing', the closing track on 2112, yet another hard lesson from the school of Rush!! Lol....
Because 2112 is such an epic Rush song, side B tends to be forgotten but there are some really good bangers that are a must listen. After the "Caress of Steel" album bombed in sales the record producers wanted Rush to do accessible radio friendly songs. The band wasn't interested in writing cookie cutter songs and wrote 2112 for side A but shorter songs for side B. The record company wasn't happy but this time, the long epic "2112" did resonate with the fans. From this point on the producers left Rush alone to write whatever they wanted. "Lessons" the lyrics were written by Alex and the song "Tears" the lyrics were written by Geddy.
This is another FU. This song is about a fight between Alex and his parents about finishing high school .v. playing guitar and starting a band (Rush). The dynamic contrast in the lyrics are between Alex thinking, and his parents yelling! I think Alex made the right choice, and his parents learned the Lesson.
Early Rush... meh. When I was a kid, I listened to soooooooooo much of their early career that I have no desire to listen to anything prior to 1982 anymore. It's a great exercise in musicianship for a budding musician though! Their music, ironically, was "attainable" during this era. Alex played guitar, Geddy played Bass, and Neil played drums. There were few additional effects anywhere, pedals, or variations. You also got plenty of standard sections and phrasing where you knew a guitar solo was going to be a pure guitar solo, a chorus, was a chorus, etc. By my 15th or so year of playing though, and then covering them in a band for 3 years I will say that that got old. 28 years into playing now and I have more profound respect for the absolutely insane levels of musicianship Alex was pulling off in the 80's, than any other period he played in!
Lessons is a very over shadowed and underrated song. One of my favorites.
Guys! Alex Lifeson wrote the lyrics of this song!!

Something for Nothing is definitely the best song on side B. That is a must do for them. The glasses will be on in the first minute.
Great song! I love the Side 2 songs from 2112! Great reaction!
“Something For Nothing” from this album must go in the hat now!

You need to hear Tears from 2112
Glad to see you back with more Rush, killing it as usual.Made my evening!
Great reaction and welcome back. Looking forward to the next one.
Side 2 of 2112 is sick!! Something for Nothing and A Passage To Bangkok. Add em to the hat.
Very underrated Rush song! This and "In The End" could easily fit in on a Guardians of The Galaxy soundtrack.
A Must listen.
Always wished Rush would have pulled "In The End" out of the vault on their later tours. Sadly....
Lessons is very much a hidden gem. Awesone song.
Back with RUSH 👍👍👍
🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶🔥🙂
Speaking of acoustic guitars: this is a GREAT song to learn on acoustic guitar! It's really easy!!
Missed you guys and your Rush. reactions
🚀🚀🚀 YES, you are exactly right by calling this a "HIDDEN GEM". I've been a RUSH fan for 40 years, yet I always overlook this song when I need a Rush "fix." THANKS SO MUCH!
Welcome back guys! Love me some Rush!
"Witch Hunt" is a great song. Lyrics. The words stand the test of time.

The whole B side is strong and the ending on Something For Nothing is the icing on the cake for this album for my ears
FROM GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD TO 2112 HUHHHHH??? LOL :) I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!! :)

Thats one of the favorites.
Kind of funny that they were reminiscing on "sweet memories", at age 22-23.. a couple years into a 40 year career 🔥
Great deep cut!!!! I’m still waiting for Headlong Flight from the Clockwork Angels album
I think these are the only song lyrics in the entire Rush catalogue that were penned by Alex..nice...
👍👍👍👍👍

You definitely gotta react to something from Power Windows, I reccomend Territories, Middletown Dreams and The Big Money

Alex write this one…sort of his story. Love Alex!
Never played live😠 yes hidden gem...great reaction but Son you got to say 'Twenty One Twelve' Dads got it right!✌
"Losing It", please!
this song sounds more like the first album
By the way, just to help you out, it is pronounced “Twenty-one Twelve”… just a helpful FYI
2112 as in the year twenty one twelve.
Perfect time to pick up your new acoustic guitar.
Oh, and welcome back fellas. It has been a minute. School and work, pfft. Haha.
When are you doin' Book 2?
