    Please, make a video for the soup too. While it's easy to find soba noodles, I never have seen the condiment in the stores.

  • @Seabeams
    @Seabeams 4 роки тому +1

    Wow that is the first time I heard of drinking the soba water. I had this idea it was like instant noodles where you have to remove the water which had waxy residue or whatever they put on instant noodles to preserve them. I will save the water next time. I agree with all the comments here, the video was fun, funny and so enlightening to watch. Thank you

    Yes, please teach us how to make the soup, I don't think I can get it in Germany. Anyway, if I can find it, it would be extremely expensive.
    BTW, was that a whole meal? No vegetable or meat to eat along? Do you eat soba in a hot soup like ramen? Or is eating it cold the normal way?

    • @TabiEats
      @TabiEats  9 років тому +5

      magucathy Actually yes, it was a whole meal. NO veggies or meat. Sometimes Japanese meals are super simple like this. We might add a bit of egg omelette on the side but that's about it. Of course we compensate at our next meal with more protein and veggies. Eating it cold is normal in the hot summer months. We usually eat the hot ones in the winter instead.

    THANK YOU!!! I love soba but mine always comes out a little weird, I now realise I need to use a bigger pot and pay attention to the boiling time the packet recommends. I've never tried soba-water soup before either, so will need to ensure that I do that next time.

      My fianceé was born here in Brazil, in a town called Campo Grande (which literally means big field). It is located in the same state as the Pantanal Forest, so it is very hot all year round. The japanese immigrants are claimed to have adapted the Okinawan Soba to the brazilian tastes, and the local people liked it so much it is oficially considered part of their cultural heritage. The noodles are eaten hot despite the climate. The city market also has a huge statue of a bowl of Soba. It's really cool! :-) I suggest you guys check it out.

I will make this tomorrow, and also Miso soup with Natto, which you mentioned once before. Surprisingly, this is one Japanese thing that we can find, even in Florida USA, which is pretty far away. Even the special plates and cups! Also concentrated soup, and ingredients to make the soup, too. This is not always true, so it's a nice surprise. ooh, nice cast iron enamelled cookware ;)
    tell us what soba is good, so we can look for it in our areas.. @I order black rice soba online, but have no idea of it is "good" soba or not!

    My noodles had no taste at all...I guess mine was to cheap. It was my first time eating cold noodles too. The soup with the noodle water and green onions was quite nice.
    I guess I can use the sobawater also with other meals somehow. xD It is so much it would least for the whole week.

    We love soba! We almost eat it everyday in the Summer. Can you please explain in more detail what does it mean by "quality" soba? Do you mean higher percentage of the buckwheat flour in comparison to regular wheat flour? Most of the ingredient list do not list the percentage of ingredients but I try to buy soba that has buckwheat flour as the first ingredients (sometimes, they also add yam flour into the soba). Thank you for your explanation in advance!
    P.S. Yes, please let us know how to make homemade soba tsuyu! I only buy concentrate from store so far :-\

    • @TabiEats
      @TabiEats  9 років тому +1

      Le Genou de Claire Yes high quality usually means more buckwheat flour although 100 % is not the best. They say 80% is the best, which is what we used. The reason why is because the more buckwheat, the more taste there is. But 100% becomes too grainy and isn't always the best.
      We will be making the soba soup for you guys as it seems as though everybody's requesting it. Cheers my friend.

    I wish i can someday buy soba it looks really good~ I often find myself wanting to eat good noodles but we only have some cheap instant noodles. Would you have any recipe/tips on how to make good instant noodles? Like how to make ramen out of instant noodles (how to season it yourself kinda)? Idk maybe it's stupid but i can't always buy other than instant noodles. Thank you~ c:

      そうそう、Takeko78さん、そば湯なんですよ!そば湯の出ないそばは自分的にはとってもつまらなくて。だからそばの割合が多い物でないと食べられないですぅ!海苔、僕も大好きです。でも切るのが面倒なので、焼き海苔をクシャクシャクシャってしちゃって掛けちゃってます。

    I'm looking forward to the soup recipe, but since I'm inherently lazy (I usually just buy Soba at the conbini *sigh*), do you guys have any recommendations for store bought soup as well? Are they all fairly similar, or is there a brand or feature I should be looking for?

    • @TabiEats
      @TabiEats  9 років тому

      Krahn haha I hear ya. Here in Japan, we basically go by price. we can buy very generic ones at the 100 yen store which is really not that bad. But the more expensive ones are usually way better in taste just because it usually includes high quality ingredients. This is one time where I can fairly say choose by price.
      But really, as long as it's a Japanese brand, the reasonably priced ones are fine. Do you have ingredients such as instant dashi, soy sauce, sake and mirin at home? If you do it's easy to make your own.

    • @krahnjp
      @krahnjp 9 років тому

      TabiEats Heh, yeah, sorry, should have said, I'm in Japan as well. Down in Kyushu. If that's all that goes into it I'll definitely wait for the recipe. Even I can do that much. :)

    • @TabiEats
