August 1997, my first weeks in Scottsdale, Arizona. Stopped at Walmart for house essential for my new studio apartment. Mulled over the idea of buying a new CD that I did not need, and I finally convinced myself that it would mark my first month in my new place forever. Over 25 years later, I hear this song and I feel all that same energy again alive in my mind. Great purchase! My favorite female Vocalist Alternative rock song from the 1990s. This is my first time seeing this video, As I have never had cable TV, so I could not watch MTV. My biggest regret of the 1990s. Particularly 1994 to 1999. Those were the best years of the best decade ever!! And the girls are just as cute as I imagined they would be!
Polar Sky Meh, other than Emma from Sick Puppies... it's kind of a lost cause. It's okay though, I'm cynical, not misogynistic. Guys don't rock much anymore either, if I'm under oath here.
Lol, I dunno I think there's a few kickass female musicians out there - the lead singer from Dallas Frasca for example. The problem is rock music is becoming a less popular genre... because most people can't be screwed going to an open mic over a nightclub, or buying a cd over ripping it on pirate bay
Polar Sky I think it's a combination of it being less popular and not necessarily having the time to create it. These days they mostly want songs that jump to the top and fall off, like that one "somebody that I used to know" song. There's no real strive for longevity anymore, and I think that's when rock is at its best is when songs with a lot of depth can be not only composed, but surfaced (via radio) as well. Plus, as you know, Justin is the face of the music industry, and he can't really do much, so there's a number of kinks. But for the most part, you're right.
The first time I heard the song it was when I lived in Colorado Springs and was listening to KBPI from Denver. What a song and this video - what an exciting dynamic watch. My heart - my heart!
Me and an old friend made a band, doing covers with just the 2 of us, and this was one of the first songs we ever played publicly. Hearing it always reminds me of that time! Good memories!
WHEN GIRLS PLAY GUITAR: (1) They frequently will "strum high on the strings, over the lower neck area" -, because it produces a milder, less-twangy tone that they tend to prefer. (2) They often will learn only one or two configurations of a "barred chord" -, and then play that one chord configuration up-and-down the guitar's neck, in a "capo-ing" manner; much as-if using a "slack-key" tuning. (3) They frequently will play guitar-melody parts by using a single string, rather than by moving from string-to-string. ~ The girls in Veruca Salt (to some extent) did ALL of those stereotypical playing methods. Do understand, that I'm not necessarily demeaning them for doing those techniques; I'm just explaining that "girly-girls" tend to play that way.
The way the two girls play give them a sound that many bands have to do guitar layering to achieve...Nina provides the soft, clean sound, and Louise gives them the heavy crunch sound. Besides, who cares...when they try, both girls are super hot in my opinion. Chicks with guitars...nothings hotter...except maybe Gen from the Genitorturers about 20 years ago when me and my buddies tried to kidnap her. Oh well, another story for another time from an old metal head.
Matthew Baumann: In answer to your "comment" -, Yes, most guitarists use barre chords; BUT, the excessively "girly-girl" method that I was citing, tends to use "only one or two configurations of a 'barred chord' -, and then play that one chord configuration up-and-down the guitar's neck, in a 'capo-ing' manner". Furthermore, most guitarists will ALSO use numerous types of "open chords"; and here-again, the excessively "girly-girl" method doesn't tend to use "open chords".
Mistah J. Those are all the technical explanations. But, here's a simpler one. All music videos are lip-sync, guitar sync. An obvious error to the one to three percent of you who play guitar. Most people never notice.
This is the best song to drop your kids off to school,. 1970's dad here that had kids way late in life , get out and walk, mum drops us off down there.

One word.... JAWBREAKER 🙌🙌 how I miss these days!
I was so in love with Nina. BATD. And she is still beautiful.. .
Such a rocking song. Mental video. Love it
Back when girls actually did rock...
for sure
They still do haha

Meh, other than Emma from Sick Puppies... it's kind of a lost cause.

I think it's a combination of it being less popular and not necessarily having the time to create it.
Sexiest solo EVER😍😍😍😍

Me and an old friend made a band, doing covers with just the 2 of us, and this was one of the first songs we ever played publicly. Hearing it always reminds me of that time! Good memories!
Nina Gordon 😍😍😍😍 TOTAL SMOKE STACK!!!
My feud with Veruca Salt continues.
my church song
My favorite Veruca Salt song.
The way Nina Gordon strums her guitar in this video bugs the shit out of me. lol
WHEN GIRLS PLAY GUITAR:
(1) They frequently will "strum high on the strings, over the lower neck area" -, because it produces a milder, less-twangy tone that they tend to prefer.

Don't most guitarist use barre chords?
Matthew Baumann:
In answer to your "comment" -, Yes, most guitarists use barre chords; BUT, the excessively "girly-girl" method that I was citing, tends to use "only one or two configurations of a 'barred chord' -, and then play that one chord configuration up-and-down the guitar's neck, in a 'capo-ing' manner".
Ohhhh.......Nina!!!!
62 years old and listening in 2022. Just lov it……….
Thank you Muchmusic! Great song and a great introduction to an awesome group, nina and louise! Forever!!!
