My favorite part was when he made the speed limit slower on a long, straight street and the cars actually followed it. As a traffic engineer, if you make a straight road and lower the speed limit without a change to the geometry (lane width, curves, etc), you've just pretty much created a speed trap cuz ain't nobody driving slower without feeling physically uncomfortable.
Anyone who drives above the speed limit gets instantly despawned. The rest of the cims live in constant fear of despawning, so they've been conditioned to never break traffic rules or get in accidents.
THIS soooo much! I'll probably end up using the streets without parking to make it _feel_ like I'm making some sort of physical change to a place I want a speed reduction... even if it doesn't' actually do anything, ha.
I like to imagine that it's full of speedbumps to keep traffic speeds low. In the UK they are fairly common in some residential areas or areas near schools to keep drivers driving slower in those areas
Thank you for covering the functionality! Maybe our next CS update will add retaining walls and stairs lol…so we don’t have to flatten so much terrain to make buildings look good. 😁
Sweet DLC. I like that you can run a normal road through your otherwise pedestrian zoned area. Meaning if you have a collector that shouldnt be diverted around; your collector can still be maintained and function no differently while the pedestrian district may exist on either side of it.
yes - huge that we can still do that! Could absolutely have bridges over an important road that goes through a ped district, too, to keep separation between a vehicular road.
Yeah, my current city is built around tram networks, so even if tram-exclusive roads aren’t part of the dlc the way bus roads are, I’m glad I can at least continue sending tram lines through the pedestrian districts.
I remember on stream, you mentioned that you would "consider" bringing back Tutoria for this expansion. You were planning this with paradox the whole time, weren't you? :D
To be honest I feel they MASSIVELY missed the mark with only covering buses regarding pedestrian roads. It would've been so easy to simply 'check' for the associated DLC's and unlock extra content based on if you have that DLC. Kind of a shame. Though it DOES seem that bicycles CAN use pedestrian roads which is nice. Also, pedestrian roads that intersect with a normal road as a T junction create pedestrian crossings. Which is nice.
Also the way the transit roads do not interface well with parks (which would fit naturally with pedestrian districts) it is disappointing. It feels a bit like a mess.
Yeah, it is kind of an arbitrary limitation that is a bit of a bummer. I'm guessing this would be easy on the PC and difficult on consoles, and probably why it didn't happen. I have some ideas on how to work them into a district though... so stay tuned! Bikes can use the ped roads, it's just odd they they ride on the side like they have a sidewalk or invisible bike lane. Still, glad they can use it. I'm kind of wondering how banning biking on sidewalks would impact ped districts....
I bet the Vanilla Roads + mod or something similar will have some pedestrian roads with more transit options; bike, monorail, tram, etc., in the near future.
I was so excited for this dlc and saw the bus stuff and was like heck yeah but didn't know it was only bus kind of a let down. Would be cool if in the future they could find a way to add all the other stuff slowly in the future. Still gonna get it once I fix my game

Move cars out faster and the area will clear. When actually all I did is create some kind of car based rail gun and shot all the cars into one area. It then comes to a halt at slower roads.
They keep making greater DLC one after another, this one is really a game changer, happy for that, and the packs, creator packs, new maps I love it, the Developers should do more and more of that, calling pro modders, content creators to help them, so each DLC will be amazing, when you look back, you can literally see the improvement of letting the community get involved with DLCs and packs, this is how things should be, Cities Skylines is so good, with the help of modders and community

it would’ve been nice for the developers to introduce dual zoning for this dlc cuz to see a residential building with a floor of retail would’ve been nice with the pedestrian paths. however, is there a mod that we can use to zone two commercial+residential in one?
Oh I can see some great pedestrian areas in Clearwater county! Perhaps converting the area above the train tracks in Van Buren leading into the station into a linear pedestrian park, the farmers market in Ashland, and a plethora of mini areas at the university!

I really hope they update the pedestrian roads for DLC packs cause it kind of sucks that you can't have trams or bike lanes on them. Especially bike lanes, cause I see those on pedestrian only paths all the time. Also would be nice to have trams and monorails on the additional 6 lane roads we got. I'll have to continue using the mod version of the same thing that I already have lol
Honestly, I think what Jason said is likely to happen. As I was recording this, I almost mentioned that I can't see the DLC being out for more than a week without tram/ped roads being created by an asset creator.
I know!! I really enjoyed creating it! Honestly, I stopped because I had an issue with the 81 tile mod. Maybe with the new version it'll work for more than the 9 tiles... i'll have to check it out!
Ah, Tutoria. This and Verde Beach convinced me to buy the game and some of the DLC when it went on sale. Have yet to properly start a city to be honest, and I was thinking I might give myself some motivation and direction by watching Tutoria from the beginning again. The DLC does make me curious though if you can make a city that's some 80-90% pedestrian area oriented? Have some high capacity arterial roads and some areas where some city services and other things that may need standard roads are set up, but otherwise make the city primarily with pedestrian roads with bus corridors, metro, and maybe a monorail or two that encircle major blocks. Sounds like an interesting design challenge, and maybe not one I should do my my first city, tempting as it is.
Love this! It reminds me of shopping arcades in Japanese large cities (and sometimes small town) though those all have large roofs and canopies over the main pedestrian road.
Nice video as always. Hate to be that realism guy, but IMO this takes a big step in the direction of pure fantasy cities. There is a reason why pedestrian zones IRL mostly tend to be only one or two streets deep. And even these often have time-restricted vehicle access. The goods deliveries and other needed tradespeople access of such a large area could never be accomplished by a handful of „service building vans“…not to mention the impossibility of renovating/rebuilding anything in the center of a pedestrian zone of this size.

I just started playing Cities Skylines a few weeks ago. I’ve since purchased all the DLCs and I love it. Plazas and Promenades is one i overlooked. It’s one I wish would have purchased sooner. I love the higher capacity university. My trade school and university campuses were draining me like 30,000 a week. Tuition was only 5 dollars a student. Barely covered a third of the cost. I’m really fine with the regular stadium that comes with the game. I don’t need the university stadiums. They’re expensive and silly IMO. So this new high capacity university will teach all my citizens for a 1/10th the upkeep. Plus I don’t lose 2 blocks of land mass. I love using metros for transport. 500 passengers between key areas sure makes things efficient. I find I like creating city centers with all the education, monuments and commercial specialization to really isolate my noise pollution. I use metros to gather people from outlying neighborhoods and bring them to the city center. Of course have a harbor and airport close to the city center.
Honestly the roads look heavily inspired by networks extention 2 mod. Also I'm little disappointed that I didn't see pedestrian tram roads that are common in Europe. Otherwise it is a nice DLC
"For those who know what a CD is" that one hit hard in both ways.😂 🤣 one: because that means some of us are conciderd old by now and, two: that it's somehow sad that some people have question marks above their heads when someone says CD😆. Reminds me of a situation i had where i held an old floppy disc in my hand and one student came by and said :" wow, cool you 3D printed the copy sign".
Would love to see a winery and some bed and breakfast type additions. That way you can have a farm, farmers market, winery, bead and breakfasts area. Maybe some other special shops.Cheese tasting. Another use for farms industry would be nice. Beekeeping too as I am a beekeeper and In Wisconsin. Cheeshead :)
The "Deliver Everything" policy also allows you to cheese having monorail inside a pedestrian area. You just need to make sure that the road with monorail isn't connected to regular road, so that there won't be any actual car traffic going through there.
Highways with bus lanes are nice! But why the left lane (in right hand traffic world)? Doesn't make any sense to me. Busses should be able to have a free flow and not crossing other lanes first, especially in busy areas or even traffic jams. Where I live bus lanes at highways are always on the right which makes much more sense for me. And the question is how long will it take before there is a pedestrian with trams road in the workshop? That's a real miss, despite the fact of trams being part of another dlc.
Just for reference, I think the standard school sizes in this game are far too small. The HS I graduated from in the D.C. area had 2400+ students - and there were several high schools in the same area that were bigger (3000+). Having previously lived in a small town in the Midwest, it actually didn't feel big because their high school also had 2400+ students as it pulled in students from a wide radius.
There it is... I think I dreamed about Tutoria last night (I was hanging out on the campus towards the stadiums).. I fear what will happen when I'll begin binging Verde Beach
Hi There! For the buildings to work in the peds area you need small peds services building, but I can't get the garbage truck pass through to collect trash and it's piling up now. Do you know how to fix it? Thank you so much
I bet the Vanilla Roads + mod or something similar will have some pedestrian roads with more transit options; bike, monorail, tram, etc., in the near future.
I really want to get into skylines but it seems like such a deep complex rabbit hole. So many mods, so many dlc, I have the base game and a few dlc I think and played maybe 10 hours.
They need to add a snap to road system for painting districts, should have been added a while ago but now with speed limits based or districts it's definitely needed
I love this, but they should have added tram and monorail as well. This idea would be great in a European city idea as well, old midrise European buildings stacked together to form blocks of houses with no car lanes. We need stairs assets too, to go up hills. Then you could make places like Monty Carlo where building are all close together and climb hills.
They have to assume the possibility of buying this DLC but not the other DLCs that have trams and monorails...but it's only a matter of time before modders get in on this. I wouldn't even give it a week.
@@sleeplesson could go further too, use road restrictions and light industry to create "backstage" areas. decorate buildings in such a way (though probably need to PO things) to create large dark rides and moving theatres etc.

I find I like creating city centers with all the education, monuments and commercial specialization to really isolate my noise pollution. I use metros to gather people from outlying neighborhoods and bring them to the city center. Of course have a harbor and airport close to the city center.
omg i didn’t expect it to release today!!
Honestly the roads look heavily inspired by networks extention 2 mod. Also I'm little disappointed that I didn't see pedestrian tram roads that are common in Europe. Otherwise it is a nice DLC
@@karlisklismets5442 Good new! They were added in a patch and if you have snowfall, you can build them.
Now you can build Barcelona super blocks)))
"For those who know what a CD is" that one hit hard in both ways.😂 🤣 one: because that means some of us are conciderd old by now and, two: that it's somehow sad that some people have question marks above their heads when someone says CD😆. Reminds me of a situation i had where i held an old floppy disc in my hand and one student came by and said :" wow, cool you 3D printed the copy sign".
I'm excited how this would affect the future of VB as the government tries to incorporate these new plans proposed by the City Planner!
Great series. Love all your videos. Do you plan making FInancial districts DLC videos? :)
The "Deliver Everything" policy also allows you to cheese having monorail inside a pedestrian area. You just need to make sure that the road with monorail isn't connected to regular road, so that there won't be any actual car traffic going through there.
I've been waiting for 4 lane 2u roads to be in the base game for ages!
“This would thrill my children and scare my dog” 🤣
Highways with bus lanes are nice! But why the left lane (in right hand traffic world)? Doesn't make any sense to me. Busses should be able to have a free flow and not crossing other lanes first, especially in busy areas or even traffic jams. Where I live bus lanes at highways are always on the right which makes much more sense for me.
And the question is how long will it take before there is a pedestrian with trams road in the workshop? That's a real miss, despite the fact of trams being part of another dlc.
This new DLC could be just what Ashland needed
Already thinking of how I’m gonna use this!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I can’t wait to finish work and dive into this dlc
I loved this whole thing
It would be amazing if you keep Tutoria running and use it to introduce the CCPs and/or explain the functionality of the most important mods
52:28 the intersection texture is breaking between pedestrian-bus and bus highway, but only on one side...
Seeing these become a regular thing in cities sounds great, and the sooner it happens irl the better..6.6
You should try to make a no car city if possible
Verde Beach definitely needs a promenade based off of the 5th Street Promenade in Santa Monica CA.
I'm ready to see this in VB and CC
At 53:30 when you added the 4 lane road with bus lanes, could you make a tiny pocket of a district and add old town plus heavy traffic ban?
OK that parallel track metro station made me want to get this
OMG OMG OMG! BUT IT'S ONLY WEDNESDAY!? Made my day 😁😁😁
There it is... I think I dreamed about Tutoria last night (I was hanging out on the campus towards the stadiums).. I fear what will happen when I'll begin binging Verde Beach
Oh you can actually make a subdivision with this Expansion Pack if you choose so
Hi There! For the buildings to work in the peds area you need small peds services building, but I can't get the garbage truck pass through to collect trash and it's piling up now. Do you know how to fix it? Thank you so much
I am having the same problem too! Could please help?
I bet the Vanilla Roads + mod or something similar will have some pedestrian roads with more transit options; bike, monorail, tram, etc., in the near future.
I really want to get into skylines but it seems like such a deep complex rabbit hole. So many mods, so many dlc, I have the base game and a few dlc I think and played maybe 10 hours.
They need to add a snap to road system for painting districts, should have been added a while ago but now with speed limits based or districts it's definitely needed
41:08… This hit me harrrrrd!
I almost wonder if you could create a Disney style resort in CSL now, with this and the resort content pack.
This never occurred to me but holy shit, yeah you actually could. Theme park next to a pedestrian area with tourism and leisure subzones.
@@sleeplesson could go further too, use road restrictions and light industry to create "backstage" areas. decorate buildings in such a way (though probably need to PO things) to create large dark rides and moving theatres etc.
