      The Metro is dying from the Monorail. They go basically the same places but the Monorail goes further. Also, if you turn you cargo terminal around, you can straighten the RR tracks.

    This episode made me accept my true level of nerdiness, when I found myself staring into space and smiling warmly for five minutes because of how cool I thought the Monorrail-Buss hub was, with all those bays, just tying all those route on one transfer point . ,, mmmnnn

    That first person POV of the monorail really makes the city come alive. We spend so much time zoomed out and when you get up close and personal it's a living breathing city with all the sims going about their 'day'. Perspective is key!

  • @AhziDahaka
    @AhziDahaka 3 роки тому +109

    I admit I was kind of surprised you didn't build a metro/monorail/train hub for that last monorail station since the passenger train station was right near there. It would have been a fantastic way for people coming into the city via train to quickly hit the main tourist attractions at the far end of the city. It would have all gone in an area that was already noisy, too, preserving more quiet space for the new development.
    I could also see a blimp route heading for the nature reserve being a thing. Imagine getting to see all the hiking trails and camping spots from high above before experiencing them on the ground, and then getting to look down at them and retrace your steps when you leave.

    I think you may have missed an opportunity with the freight train terminal during the rebuild. You could move it to the other side of the road and allow the rail to come straight into the terminal now instead of the little jog. This may have also allowed for one more warehouse. Otherwise a Ferry good episode.

    Amazing! I don't even remember why your channel was recommended to me because prior to finding your channel I had never even heard of Cities, but I was so fascinated by your videos that I picked up the game in October and this series has been so helpful to me as I learn how to play. By following some of your guidelines I finally have a city that I'm pretty happy with. It certainly isn't perfect, but I'm getting better every time I play! For future video recommendations, I would really love to see you fix a few cities from viewers who are just starting out. Your "rate my city" videos are some of my favorites aside from your Clearwater County and Verde Beach videos.
    (For Mill Heights, maybe consider Annular Beach? :) )

    Maybe you could lean into the interesting shape of the new town and base it off of European star fort cities, like Palmanova, Italy, or Hamina, Finland for a more overgrown modern look. It's halfway there already, and such a spot on the tip of a peninsula would even suit the lore :D

    I have dabbled briefly in this game when it came out - but got the itch to play again and found your videos.
    I’m the kind of person who expects myself to make perfection and defeatist when I inevitably don’t in these kind of games but having watched these videos - you really are the Bob Ross of cities skylines.
    I have never felt so chill to just get stuck in, mulligan the hell out of the place and see what works.
    I started copying the first video in this playlist but I’m really gonna branch off and make it my own with the lessons you’re giving.

    The game is okay with really sharp turn for monorail. Real monorails aren't. They resemble conventional trains in that they require turn radii in the 400' range. It's a matter of car length, not just speed (also similar to conventional trains). Switches on both sides of every station is also unlikely. Monorail switches are expensive so they are used sparingly. That's not on you, it's an issue I have with the game. The "ties" on the beam are another. Unlike the thin, necessarily flexible rails for conventional trains, monorail beam has limited flexibility and has no need of ties to maintain parallel separation. Finally, the noise levels asserted for monorails isn't realistic. They run on concrete beams with rubber tires. They are electric. The noise levels should be somewhere between busses (smaller) and metro (steel on steel).

    @36:36, the red buildings are *generating* noise. Your residential buildings will appear white. I don't believe those two buildings are actually impacted by the monorail at that point, I think instead you have sick residents because they're right next door to high-density commercial.

    • @repliedfob4165
      @repliedfob4165 3 роки тому

      How do people do mixed use if residential gets sick right next to commercial? Office buffer?

    • @lucasbodnyk
      @lucasbodnyk 3 роки тому +1

      @@repliedfob4165 IME low density commercial usually doesn't create enough noise by itself to cause problems: I believe it will lower the land value and attractiveness of adjacent residential, but you shouldn't get many sick people--if you do, you probably have another noise source nearby that's stacking. And yes, an office buffer is probably ideal.
      Also, the reality is that mixed use is hard, and presents these exact sorts of challenges. Sometimes the optimal solution for your city is that some people get sound sickness.

    I really loved what you did this episode, watching your videos is so relaxing and helps keep me sane over college finals. One small thing I would have loved to see though was for the community built around that ring shaped ruin was make the innermost road ring a park network rather than a road since that seems more appropriate for the design of the neighborhood and would have been rly aesthetically pleasing for people living there. Overall though fantastic stuff!

    This is where i learned not to be afraid of monorails. They are not so complex.
    I had not tried them before this video. Now i feel liked a bus and monorail placed near a metro actually gives one heck of a service area.
    So far in my play experience it feela like metro is possibly the most favored transit by both sims and myself.
    It packs a nice passenger capacity.
    Decent vehicle speed and a nice wide coverage.
    This can reach to nice busy points of interest or be the start point of a new point of interest.
    I am now playing my second mass tranait scenario and forcing myself to really learn how to deal with high density traffic.

    I just want to say a big thank you for this series and also Verde Beach. Today I started a new city with vanilla, and after my first few hours I was over 5k population and had a 4-star lumber industry producing an average of 8k income per week. Your industry tutorial in particular was incredibly helpful, as I never understood the flow chart and how it was telling me that I had too much raw material being exported and that I needed to build more processing facilities to fix that. Before I knew it I had 200,000 in the bank, something that has NEVER happened in all the previous times I've played the game. I'd be solvent, but building up was always a patience game. Now for the first time, I'm able to expand and build new services out without worrying about suddenly going bankrupt.

    I get so much satisfaction from the final city tour sequence complete with the top down perspective "zoom out" showing the full city layout. I think if at that very final moment if you included a quick slide sequence showing the growth of the city episode to episode would really knock it out of the park. I love seeing time lapses of city growth, so seeing it included into the end of the video would be amazing.

    Love the work and improvements to the city. As for the name of the town / village "Ferry Point Circle" - it reminds me of a few places in Rhode Island where I am from like - Newport - Watch Hill. Could even see a lighthouse park near the beach if you wanted to improve tourism.

    Love the Tratoria series. I am riding right along with you and have reached 40k. I watched a few ahead for a preview and was impressed with the Monorail Ride. You mentioned a mod needed for PC. It would be nice when you do that to identify the mod. I only had about 3-400 hours in and enjoy it. I was a Simmer ever since it was released on the Apple 2c with RCI blocks surrounded by dashes and underscores but probably won't go back now.

    Reminds me of Bald Head Island here in North Carolina. The only way onto the island is by ferry, and the only motorized vehicles they allow on the island are golf carts.

    If you put some of those water garbage disposal things near the outtake of your water polluting sewage things, you can clean up the bay so your ferry riders are not passing through sewage water. :x

    May want to check the queues on your centralized bus/monorail node - looks like you had lots of folks queuing for the bus. Also, one of the monorail stations looked to be near capacity.

    This was really an enjoyable build. The 'uglies' as you call them don't really bother so much.
    They're all over the place in Pittsburgh, so I'm used to them.
