Hi @overchargedegg, I stumbled across Cities Skylines only a week ago and got seriously confused by all the DLCs and other addons. Your video totally cleared that up for me. This is not just the best video on Cities Skylines I have found so far, but probably one of the best videos on UA-cam in general: Very informative, well structured, well paced and well presented. Thanks for putting all this together!!
Interesting to hear your takes on this. It made me realise there's at least a couple of packs that I own and have never used to such an extent that I completely forgot they existed (Pearls of the East, High Tech Buildings).
I think I agree with 99% of your points Egg. Really glad they redid the African DLC and updated a bunch with new assets and vehicles. It’s a testament to CO’s commitment to listening to the community.
The main issue with Snowfall is that it only has four maps and they've never released any more, even with the Map Packs. No doubt they're not allowed to release paid-for CCPs that have assets that only work if you've got another DLC, but it would be nice to have a few more snow maps. I actually really like building snow cities, but only two of the maps are decent and I'm on console so I can't download maps from the workshop.
I guess, for me, there is a big difference between "must buy for beginners" and "must buy later." Like, there are several DLC I wouldn't even think of playing the game without (After Dark, Mass Transit, Sunset Harbor, and Plazas and Promenades). But this is largely because they all include things that should have been in the base game (such as Bikes, Transit Hubs, 2 & 4 lane highways, inland water treatment, pedestrian roads, etc). So while I think they are must buys, they don't make me feel like I am getting *as much* value as others. So, for example, Parklife is excellent, and everyone *should* get it. But I don't think it is beginner friendly, and should be saved for after someone learns the game. Honestly, the worst offender for "has stuff that should be in the base game" is Sunset Harbor, because all the rest of it should have been in other DLC (eco stuff in Green Cities, helicopters in Natural Disasters, trolley's in Mass Transit, fishing in Industries, etc.). If the whole thing was a free update, it would have been a truly legendary show of good will, kinda like the recent updates felt like. But as it stands, it is a begrudging buy for me.
To me the fact that they stuck tramsbehind snowfall because they knew people wouldn't buy it otherwise makes snowfall a "digital cheeks." Also I love that name for the lowest tier haha
Thank you for this entertainment video, I agree with you on 90% of the list my only sorrow that I wish there was a pack that have Eastern European and soviet buildings (residential, commercial, and unique ones) I feel that it would be very interesting thank you again and keep the nice work
I was debating whether or not to watch your other tier list video on the dlc yesterday but I wanted to know your thoughts on the newer ones so this is impeccable timing
Heart of Korea is underrated. 2 zoning types and fills midrise niche. The buildings are distinct from one another- unlike European Suburbia or MC Modern, yet they blend well into the motif of the game. S Tier.
Mass Transit, Airports, Parklife, Green Cities, and Train Stations Content Park DLCs are my favorites for train/metro enthusiasts. Sunset Harbour is another must-buy since it adds fisheries and trolleybuses (they're a mid-A tier because they've added new buses improving their usefulness), but more of a high B tier since it is not as intriguing as other DLCs and not a lot of content compared to other DLCs. Still, those are valid DLCs that are S/A tier with Sunset Harbour being a valid exception because of Trolleys and Intercity buses. This is just my opinion.
Thanks Egg -- nice to have a comparison of them all. I would move Sunset Harbor up a bit and drop University down one - just based on the fact I use Sunset Harbor and the fish factories as a way to continue General Goods production with less pollution. Once you get just 1 algae farm you can also reduce your waste water processing needs. Set up a bunch of Seaweed Farms and factories and you really don't need much general industry at all. For University I usually set aside some land (for all 3 campuses) and just use the basic one until after the Industry areas are mature. Currently what I'm loving about Hotels pack is when you can place the little cabins - literally early enough that with some dirt roads and utility connection you can set up a pretty steady income stream with little infrastructure - all this at Tiny Town - really fills in an income hole right when all the roads and service buildings become available and necessary.
This is an impressive coincidence. I was just searching your channel for the latest mod tier list yesterday, to share with someone who wants to get into C:S. And now I need to send an update, haha!
Fantastic rundown of all of the DLCs and CCPs in Cities: Skylines. This game has had some truly amazing expansions that have made my gaming experience that much more fun.
Another great tier list. I'm sure this will help a lot of people. I see many "what DLC should I get" questions in various discord servers, including yours.
really have fallen in love with your channel after falling in love with city building the last year. I started with cs2 and was like man this beats the crap out of cs1, of course I was only comparing base game. After watching and using a good bit of the dlc I now know why cs1 is so beloved and now I can play cs1 until cs2 gets fixed in a couple years
A great job pulling this all together Egg! It’s interesting (and reassuring) to see that Paradox/CO produced on the whole a good set of content. Only things I would add are: -Financial districts gave us banks which are great assets -Post offices didn’t get a mention on Industries 😢 -Pearls of the East and Matchday are free so that’s a plus -The two map packs didn’t get a mention but they are different to the other CCPs Overall a great tier list (and tabs) as always
I just use to video to get inspiration for my city, seeing all the background, with all the city stuff and ideas, I love it, I use it for my own city lol
Great list Egg. I agree with your list and didn't feel like you rated anything too low that deserved higher. My top 10 are all in your must-buy and they honestly make the game for me. The other packs are used here and there.
Financial Districts is one of those expansions that is personal choice. At first, I was horrible at keeping my budget balanced and FD kept my city going. Also a good way to nab quick cash earlier for restructuring.
Pearls of the east and stadiums pack even though they were garbage, they were also free so for that reason I feel they should have been bumped up slightly.
Thank you! I have almost every DLC and CC on Xbox One but recently got the game on Steam and since I'm low on money, had to pick only a few most important DLCs to buy (until a sale comes). Funny how I have almost all DLCS on console, but still am having a hard time figuring out which ones are the best. Thanks again ❤
This was a great list and I agree with with almost everything except for maybe one or two DLC's. Especially the "Must Buy" was just spot on.........Yes, I would like to see an Egg DLC. lol
Overall, pretty good video and I love watching tier list videos! I have to disagree with Vehicles of the World though. That pack gives you lot of additional choices for service vehicles, and I love having choices and selecting between different options with their own trade-offs. It also adds bendy busses, which is pretty cool.
I personally would have put natural disasters as a must buy as the edition of some sort of problem that can make or break your city if not managed well is such a fun mechanic
You should buy Disasters DLC if you want to have fun and destroy your city. a Tincy tiny bonus of this DLC is that you can destroy a Landfill and not have to manually unfill it to bulldoze
Thanks for the video! Long time content consumer getting back into CS1 myself with the news of CS2 coming. Definitely looking to the upcoming Steam sale to nab a lot of these must-buys. I've owned the game since 2016 but never got around to getting any of the DLCs. -_-'
Wonderful breakdown of the DLC and CCP currently available for Cities Skylines, thank you for your interpretation of each pack. Your opinions are appreciated as you walked us through each of the packs, thank you. My question going forward is, will these packs work with the new version of the game coming out this fall? Now this might not be answered until the new game is released and the creators of the DLC and CCP have an opportunity to debug and or update their product but I am curious as there is no mention of this in the "Feature Highlight" series that has come out with the new game information. Any guesses?
Very amused watching this video and then watching your Ilos episode of financial districts and your much different opinion on it when you first got your hands on it😂
As a European the football and cricket pitches are awesome to have, I only wish the ccp came with rugby and basketball, although the gymnasium in Green Cities covers that a bit. Still, the assets look real, the cricket pitch looks like it was ripped pit of one of my local parks and the medium football stadium, although apparently spanish influenced, honestly looks like any old stadiŵm pêl-droed/rygbi in Cymru. The creator of the pack deserves all the praise they can get, amazing pack!
I wonder why i dont see new buildings from Leno University DLC ... what the hell Paradox, releasing CCP without adding it into a vanilla game ? How i can manage to spawn these building in my vanilla build, anyone have idea ? Thanks for help !
Im at 775k pop with 0 dlc right now, trying to get to a million before cs2 comes out. Maybe I'll mess with the dlc in that game, just felt like bs in cs1 because i paid $20 for the game and now they want almost that much for each dlc and theres like 25 of them.
You are NOT limited to one concert site per city. Once the first one is upgraded, it is available again to be built elsewhere. Shame about the European stadiums packs. I Hesitated too much and forgot to buy it because I didn't see it was time limited. I wanted to have Parc des Prince Stadium in my city... The Shanghai tower doesn't look particularly asian so it can be used in every city, especially if you have a geographical feature that will make it stand out. Modern City Center looks good if you want to recreate the reconstruction of Le Havre city after being bombed by the Allied in WW2, those assets look quite similar to that. Trans Stations CCP and Mid Cntury Modern CCP have some nice additions in the Workshop to expend the assets you can get and fill the gaps.
The only way to get them is a cracked version of the game where you will also get Magicka theme park which I'm not sure you can get now. The European Stadiums are very nice but not sginificantly better than the Sports Venues pack. I own legit copy on Steam plus most of the DLC I would mention. I just took a look at a cracked game to see the bits I was missing.
Only just got as far as Sunset Harbour. As you were going through it (and Snowfall earlier) it made me wonder if Snowfall should be lower down as it’s only good thing is trams which are now somewhat level with Sunset Harbour which has many better wualities
With the launch of CSL2 I watched a lot of videos about it and found myself wanting to play this game. Or rather, CSL1, because 2 is just... not worth it yet. But I'm missing some dlcs for 1, so here we are
@@OVERCHARGEDEGGOh I know, I used to play this game for solid few hundred hours, almost from the release to early 2019. But I didnt really got into it again since then, kinda moved mainly to WRSR for my city builder needs. Over time I picked up several dlcs, some bought, some for free, but until now I didnt realize just how much I was missing. Mainly content packs, I always just straight up ignored them, idk why. I already set up some alerts for dlc discounts, I hope to get back into CSL1 with more possibilities than I ever had. A lot of them should be in the base game but that show how they make it, bring a very empty game out and then sell the content what should be in the maingame as dlc. It’s really not surprising that they failed city skylines 2. Everyone did should see the warnings about that company.
Really depends how much you are enjoying just the base game. Cities 2 will be quite different to full package CS1, cheap now too. I'd say explore the must buys, if you enjoy them, the rest of them too
Thinking of purchasing this off steam on sale the whole complete pack is 224$. And out of that is like 60$ of radio stations is this worth it or just get game with all dlc -radio
This is the only review that didn't give me any anxiety attack thank you so much😂 One guy said well I haven't really played this one because I don't like finance so I'm going to read it at 5 and then just moved on. Like mate if you didn't play all the DLC don't make a review
Don't know who needs to hear this, but the dlc are downloaded already even if you don't own them on steam, just gotta download 3 modified game files and not verify your games files and you can trick the game into unlocking ALL paid content without charge😁
I think price should have been factored in as a lot of them are free to cheap which matter when you're starting out.
You can get pretty much each one for £5 more or less these days
On the 29th you can get any of them for $7 or less on Steam anyways, even less on console with the bundles going on sale
@@onemorescoutthanks for the heads up! I was planning on getting some of these after watching the video , now I'll wait for the 29th😊

Yes bro, IG is just a store, not a platform so you buy your codes and redeem them on steam etc. 😌
@@OVERCHARGEDEGG are the prices there code prices or dlc prices or what?
A lot of them should be in the base game but that show how they make it, bring a very empty game out and then sell the content what should be in the maingame as dlc. It’s really not surprising that they failed city skylines 2. Everyone did should see the warnings about that company.
Is it worth buying any dlcs now since the new game is coming out I have none
Really depends how much you are enjoying just the base game. Cities 2 will be quite different to full package CS1, cheap now too. I'd say explore the must buys, if you enjoy them, the rest of them too
Well, should i buy green city or industries?(i like building industry and i hate pollution stuff)
Thinking of purchasing this off steam on sale the whole complete pack is 224$. And out of that is like 60$ of radio stations is this worth it or just get game with all dlc -radio
There was indeed something up there
The browsing tabs are sublime :)
This is the only review that didn't give me any anxiety attack thank you so much😂
One guy said well I haven't really played this one because I don't like finance so I'm going to read it at 5 and then just moved on.
Like mate if you didn't play all the DLC don't make a review
10:38 Floating cars on the right lol
When are the dlcs on console on sale again?
You don’t take into account map quality for the DLCs - they have got better over time so later DLC can be more worth it.
The browser tabs lol
So, how much is the egg dlc? (asking for a friend)
Don't know who needs to hear this, but the dlc are downloaded already even if you don't own them on steam, just gotta download 3 modified game files and not verify your games files and you can trick the game into unlocking ALL paid content without charge😁
Brooklyn*s….Egg will never not be able to just say Brooklyn and Queens. 😀
WIll all these be included in the new game?
Some of it has been confirmed but don't expect a lot of it to transfer
What's up with the cat @ 22:58 ??? Is it only me or... it went spidey-cat mode?
I will always be a Campus, Green Cities, Mass Transit lover. ❤❤❤❤
We need a console creator like you …
