Wow I thought when I started watching 98 would be number 1. One of my best memories with gaming is waiting in line at Walmart to get Pokémon red. Because I liked the color better. That was the game that hooked me into gaming. The mystery of what could be behind each areas tall grass. The need to collect. No internet no guides. That year for Christmas I got ocarina of time. And I’ve never stopped buying and playing games since.
So glad to see 2007 as #2, as that was the year I discovered my favorite game of all time… Bioshock. Still play through it at least once a year to this day.
It was another world, it was mindblowing to play on 3d and games like doom or diablo were revolutionnary by their own, nowdays it is much much harder for a game to reproduce that kind of effect. Then early 2000's gaming coupled with the discovery of internet for the mass that was also something quite special. Counter strike and just freaking word of warcraft lol that game...
My time on video games was btw 1992 to 2007 , so I cannot speak for everything beyond that, so 1996 -97-98 imo the best, I was too young in the early 90s to really remember or appreciate the games that came out in those years
Yes exactly what i was about to post before cut and pastd here ;). 1996-1998 was by far the best gaming era to me. Ps1 n64 landed with epic games never seen before like really mind blowing at the time and just what can I say about the pc gaming sphere at that time, just look at blizzard did during that period it's the tip of the iceberg for pc.
@@RicochetForce last week I told myself we are actually right in the second golden era of gaming since about 2 years now. First because indies have gone into berserk mode and second I expect AAA to do more than selling you the same game under a different skin and here again because of indies taking the risks to break through and out of gaming. Third because we have step up in technology, and again there are loads and loads of people making games out there now it's nothing like 10 years ago now it's way way wayy bigger. Like 10 years ago you would not play anything from china...just an example.
@@lafourmiedesbois5901 Oh yeah, we're definitely in another golden age and have been for some time now. Kid Icarus was really fun and the characters were really exciting to play with but the controls were very annoying. I swear my hands cramped up so much from playing it, but I couldn't put it down.
2012 was also an amazing year for games. Great games included the hilarious Borderlands 2, stealth action game Dishonored, the tactical XCOM: Enemy unknown, the beautiful and breathtaking Journey, the 4th game in the amazing Halo series, and had a bunch of 3 games, like Max Payne 3, assassin's Creed 3, Mass effect 3, Diablo 3, and far cry 3, as well as the cult classic lollipop chainsaw, the vita remake of persona 4 in the form of persona 4 golden, and indi games like Hotline Miami, the Puzzle platformer Fez. Also the gripping 3rd person shooter Spec ops: the line, and the 3ds had good exclusives too, from Resident evil revelations, and kingdom hearts dream drop distance, which celebrated the 10 year anniversary of kingdom hearts. Also the amazing point and click game, The walking dead, which had Telltale make it's mark on the world of gaming. It was also the year g4 released the top 100 video games of all time list. 1994 also hade EarthBound/MOTHER 2 released in Japan, Pokémon Diamond and Pearl were released in 2006, Diddy Kong Racing came out in 1997 and Pokémon Gold and Silver in 2000 for the Americas
It was great when developers put everything they had into games to make them as fun and feature-rich as possible. It was to sell the game itself without the main focus being on keeping the money flowing after the purchase as is the case for so many games today. Now, there's a financial incentive to make games tedious and frustrating to play to push people to pay to temporarily alleviate that frustration.
Don't forget in the year 2000, Phantasy Star Online Episode 1 & 2 released on the Sega Dreamcast which helped to revolutionize online RPG on a home console.

For me personally, 2004 will always be the biggest year in gaming. The PS2 generation was when I really got into playing a lot of different games, but I nearly always bought games that were a bit older or had come out on Platinum to save money. But that year, I bought San Andreas, Jak 3, and Metal Gear Solid 3 all at launch (MGS3 was pushed to 2005 for PAL territories but I feel like it still counts). In addition I got Ratchet and Clank 3, as well as Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 with its revolutionary physics engine once I got a computer that could run them. Add to that that the original Far Cry, and the original World of Warcraft, as well as Halo 2 came out this year and it’s always been ingrained in my mind as one of the definitive years for gaming.
Either 2001 or 1998 for me , or else they're equally tied for best In two different ways. 2004 Is among the top though , I''d put It somewhere between top 3 - 6.
1998 has always baffled me. With Grim Fandango, Zelda OoT, Half-Life and Metal Gear Solid it had 4 of my top ten favorite games of all time. And I'm almost 40 years old. Bizarre!
98 was a good year, perhaps best of the 90's , 2007 is better in my eyes, more groundbraking games, which had their first entry , bioshock, mass effect, call of duty modern warfare, the witcher, mario galaxy, god of war 2, uncharted....
2009 should have been in the top 10. We got Batman Arkham Asylum, UNCHARTED 2, Pokémon Heartgold and Soulsilver, and other masterpieces I can’t think of now.
I'm going to say 1998 without even watching it, metal gear solid, ocarina of time- two of my favourite games ever, half life, banjo- kazooie. I remember as a kid being inspired more and more that year.
@@fawkkyutuu8851 red dead redemption, god of war, smash bros, spiderman, detroit become human, subnautica, celeste, hades, a way out, assasains creed odyssey, the forest, sea of thieves, far cry 5 and many more. rdr2 and god of war alone make it a top 10 year mate abselutely imo the best year for video games of all time, but to not have it top 3 is abselutely craazy. Ofc i still respect games like super mario bros i know they started video games as a whole but 2018 is UNDENIABLY a top 3 year. cheers
don't forget the fact when pokemon go hit the scene, it was the closest we've seen the world become a unified front: catching pokemon alongside fellow trainers all over the globe.
Respectfully disagree. 1998 deserved that top spot. The rise of so many marquee franchises got their start and imo was first year where truly saw what was capable with three-dimensional gaming.
I got a good feeling about 2023. Every platform and genre-fan will get something great that year. That said, I was very optimistic for 2020 as well so hope I don't jinx it.

Top 20 Best characters of Super Smash Bros Ultimate please!
I like 2001 games like Mega Man X5, Paper Mario, Mega Man X6 and Super Smash Bros Melee.
Final Fantasy 7 will always be a Timeless classic.
Yup
I always loved that game.
Can't wait for FF7:Rebirth and FF7:Crisis Core Reunion.
Man I drooled over FF7 for yeeeeeears, it was so good looking at the time, just mindblowing kids can't understand. I kinda regret that i could not play it at that time because between that time and the first time I played it I had enough to get hooked on Blizzards games on pc instead so nowaydays im not really a jrpg fan.
I like a 2007 game like The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass.
PlayStation 2 is the greatest console of all time imo
Agreed
Withouth a doubt it sure is. That's why it is the best selling console game system of all time.
@@themastermind5638yeah. Because it was a great video game console. Not because it was also a dvd player that was much cheaper to buy than other DVD players.

@@michaelneilvalencia2205 Bruh u blind? He said "2017 also had the best ones" before the 2017 games.
I'm glad 2018 was on here. Spider-Man 🕸️, God of War, and Red Dead 2 we're all amazing 👌🏻.
I'm glad they also had 2001. I love Final Fantasy 10.
Best years for video games in my opinion: 2007, 2011, 2015, 2018
Whoever's reading this, i pray that whatever you're going through gets better and whatever you're struggling with or worrying about is going to be fine and that everyone has a fantastic day! Amen
It is the year that gaming became more then a kids hobby and full on mainstream
1998 also brought us superb Fallout 2. Should had mentioned it as well.
Great list, watch mojo
Kingdom Hearts looks so good for 2002.
2009 should have been in the top 10. We got Batman Arkham Asylum, UNCHARTED 2, Pokémon Heartgold and Soulsilver, and other masterpieces I can’t think of now.
2009 because in that year have the best games: Uncharted 2, Assassins Creed 2, Batman Arkham Asylum and Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Im not a gamer of the old days but 2018 is my best year for gaming by a mile.
Nope
We also got Sonic Adventure and the Dreamcast in 98!!
That was 99.
1998 - 2001

6. 12:34

2003-2010 were goated games🔥🐐🗿 (ps2&ps3games)
I'm going to say 1998 without even watching it, metal gear solid, ocarina of time- two of my favourite games ever, half life, banjo- kazooie. I remember as a kid being inspired more and more that year.
2001 was my year for gaming. Why? Super Smash Bros. Melee, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3, Metal Gear Solid 2, Ico, Ikaruga, any many more.
It was definitely the most perfect time for the entire Industry as a whole imo.
GTA 3
2015 because of the several Japanese niche games being ported to Steam.
It was the year Japan began discovering PC, so to speak
how the fuck is 2018 not top 3 abselutely outrageous
wasn't strong imo.
Ofc i still respect games like super mario bros i know they started video games as a whole but 2018 is UNDENIABLY a top 3 year. cheers
@@fawkkyutuu8851 Are you mad?
1. 2007
2. 2013
3. 2023 will be an incredible year
They should have mentioned that 1998 was also an amazing year for figthing genre with 2 of the best ever, KOF 98 and SF Alpha 3!
Just more reason why 98 is GOAT.
1996 is also a good year cause Pokemon red and blue released
Making legends and memories
my favorites are 1998 and 2000. Starcraft, diablo 2, BG 1 and 2, Heroes of might and magic 3, Arcanum,... what time to be alive. :)
man I miss 2017
Gotta love all good video games between the ‘80s, the ‘90s, 2000s and 2010s.
Yeah
90's,00's & 10's has the most best and greatest games.
13:20 2017 was a definitive year for gaming
don't forget the fact when pokemon go hit the scene, it was the closest we've seen the world become a unified front: catching pokemon alongside fellow trainers all over the globe.
I Loved 1997 For Tekken 3 Love That Game...
The entire ‘Mortal Kombat’ franchise will be turning 30 this fall.
Holly shit
Nothing Beats Street Fighter II
Amen
I like 2002 games like Super Mario Sunshine and Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3.
I think 2022 will be on this list and In the top 5 soon
Super Mario World....All these years later that game still feels like Playing an SNES for the very first time.
Yup
For me it's 2017, for 2 reasons: Nier Automata and Persona 5.
Awesome 😎
I know this sounds weird but sometime I think modern video games are almost Too realistic. Like, I enjoy it looking like a video game
Realistic in what way??? Graphics wise???
@@themastermind5638 Yes, graphics wise
I like 2000 games like Banjo-Tooie and Final Fantasy IX.
in 2023 we ff7 remake 2, street fighter 6, breath of the wild 2...it's gonna be awesome 😊
Gow too maybe, Suicide squad, starfield, bayonetta, next year will be legendary
Ff16 and re4 remake
2004-2010 was the sweet spot for sports video games
Yes
They forgot to mention that 1992 introduced Kirby.
I feel that, even though Doom came out after Wolfenstein, people went back 2 Wolfenstein BECAUSE of Doom. Doom will ALWAYS be my FPS grand daddy...!
2004 also had Sly 2: Band of Thieves, Jak 3, Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal. 2005 had Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves.
2015 and 2018 were legendary years.
2007 changed the landscape and scope of console gaming imo should probably be number 1
Respectfully disagree. 1998 deserved that top spot. The rise of so many marquee franchises got their start and imo was first year where truly saw what was capable with three-dimensional gaming.
Nothing has been better than 1998 yet.
@@fawkkyutuu88512007 wipes the floor with 98 and Im from that era

2. 2007

it is a crime to not add guitar hero 3 in the 2007 list
I got a good feeling about 2023. Every platform and genre-fan will get something great that year. That said, I was very optimistic for 2020 as well so hope I don't jinx it.

@@Punisher6791 no games next year, my bad. Bye bye
1998 was amazing!
1996-1998 was by far the best gaming era to me. Ps1 n64 landed with epic games never seen before like really mind blowing at the time and just what can I say about the pc gaming sphere at that time, just look at blizzard did during that period it's the tip of the iceberg for pc.
1985. The Year The Entire Video Game Industry Is Officially Resurrected From The Video Game Crash Of 1983.
Rimworld got no mention in 2013 wow
and 2003 with the relese of steam changed gaming forever
