- More than two decades ago, back in the distant year of 2001, Nintendo released the GameCube, a small purple console that they believed would take the world by storm. While the GameCube faced the stiff competition of the first Xbox and the titanic PlayStation 2, it still carved out an incredible library of games, with new installments in existing franchises, stellar remakes and ports, and of course some brand new IPs ready to take the gaming world by storm. Whittling down such a mighty catalog to only the upper echelon wasn’t easy, but here are the best GameCube games ever made.

How is Luigi’s Mansion missing? I own a game shop and I’ve had thousands of customers ask if we have it in stock. I’ve had ZERO customers ask about Hulk, Beyond Good & Evil, or Eternal Darkness.
The original is still my favorite. Some of the ghosts still make me jump til this day
It’s because Eternal Darkness is really a hidden gem game. Most mainstream gamers know RE not Eternal Darkness.

The GameCube is Nintendo's best console
When it came out, I was pretty much the only one out of all my peers that bought it. The games were amazing and make up a great part of those years of my life. I’ll never understand the reasons that are given as to why it didn’t sell as well.

Nintendos best console is the Snes. A link to the past, megaman x, super Metroid, chrono trigger, super Mario world, yoshis island, dkc trilogy, earthbound, f zero, Mario kart, star Fox, the list goes on and has aged the best out of all consoles

SS tricky I'm a die-hard Soulcalibur fan but I've had more fun with SS tricky than any other game on GameCube

Twilight Princess should have been much higher on this list.
Honestly, hasn’t aged well. I remember playing it when it came out and thought it was very bland compared to wind waker. It was very much the precursor to Skyward Sword which was also super disappointing

@@JacketsOnFire WW was bad. It was very little actual combat action. Most of WW was just mind-numbing fetch-quest. And the reason it took so long was because of no-action-mind-numbing travels.
Exactly. I like animal crossing but its for sure not as good as Twilight Princess

Not only was it a ground breaking and innovative it was the most incredible 3D game I've ever played along with a great soundtrack and characters✌️
With Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes if you have Super Mario Sunshine and Legend Of Zelda Wind Waker files on your memory card a character in that game mentions Mario and Zelda games
Wind Waker is my #1 as well. Such a classic adventure worth experiencing.

still my favorite console of all-time. and as a retro collector, this is mostly due to its insanely high quality & unique library of games. but also that brilliant GC controller, perfecto. and my favorite game in this legendary catalog of gaming greatness? Tales of Symphonia... which somehow didnt even make your list? wth? 😂
Tales of Symphonia is one of those games that has a huge cult following but not great critical reception. Not sure why
I truly feel that tales of Symphonia, star fox adventures, and lost kingdoms should have made it to the list!

Really good list! Fire Emblem Path of Radiance and Luigi's Mansion should have been somewhere on that list though.
I was an early adopter of the Gamecube, and have most of what folks would want, even the dumb stuff like Cubivore, GoGo Hypergrind, etc. It was a distant third in its generation for me. Dreamcast won me over, and nothing else captured my imagination at the time like it did. PS2 came in second for me, largely on the backs of great arcade compilations and Japanese 2D shooter ports. I play my Gamecube more than my original Xbox, though. Eternal Darkness keeps me coming back more than anything else. Luigi's Mansion is fun to revisit, and my wife prefers the GC version of Ribbit King over the PS2 because the power meter moves more smoothly. Skies of Arcadia, though... that has to be done on Dreamcast. I don't care about added content; it's just not Skies of Arcadia until you've played Pinta on you VMU on your lunch break at work.
I owned same ps2 in my attic last few years, lost my dc but I have a great collection of gc games now. 😊
Fire Emblem is the game currently in my Gamecube for a replay hahaha. I also think Tales of Symphonia is up there as well. :D

Ok, not only is not giving Melee the top spot bad enough, but how could you leave out the Star Fox games, the Timesplitters games, or any of the Sonic games?
That's just how good the GameCube is. There's so much good stuff that didn't make the cut.
Nice list.. I really played the crap out of super Mario strikers. Cube 2003 fifa really made me fall in love with fifa. Spider-Man 2 much like hulk was very fun being in the city

Lord Of The Rings: The Third Age was one of my favorites. As well as one of the last true turn biased combat games I can think of.

Also the gameplay shown in the video is from the Wind Waker HD, which is obviously much better looking, but also has plenty of gameplay issues fixed.
F-Zero GX, Sunshine, Metroid Prime, and Melee could easily be higher on the list. Wind Waker was big when it came out, but I've not heard anybody talking about it in decades. Whereas people debate between Ocarina and Mario for the 64, Melee continues to be praised as the game that defined the Cube. Personal top 10:

Oh my word I was 22 when game cube was released, now I feel old, never owned a game cube till I got my wii in 2007 and began playing gamecube games on it, I still play gamecube on my wii but holy heck are wii game expensive now.

I tried playing Origins after how much fun I had with Eternal Wings, but I gotta say........Origins was just abrasive from the beginning. The battle system was way worse (very confusing) and the whole intro sequence felt dull/tedious.
Such a stacked console; but am surprised that Rogue Leader (whatever number) launch title isn't on there from Factor 5... it still looks amazing. Also Soul Calibur 2, Spider-Man 2 and WarioWare... guess it can't fit in everything 😀
It's a japanese exclusive but try Naruto: Gekitō Ninja Taisen! 3, they later released some english ports but some content was cut. A very fun multiplayer fighting game and you can spend a while unlocking unlockables in the story (mission) mode

Man I loved rogue leader and think it still holds up quite well even today. Kind of shocked not to see it on here

Metroid prime should of been #1,. And I never even heard of a lot of these games. I believe there was a pretty cool batman game for the cube that should of been on there.

I'm just curious, how did Zelda TP only rank 14th as a top GameCube game but was 2nd on the top Wii games? Admittedly, I played the Wii and WiiU versions of TP, but I thought aside from being mirrored, the GC game was pretty much the same as the Wii.
Their employees probably vote. Most think of TP as Wii game, not Cube.
Took me years to finish wind Walker but I loved it.

I know this is a long shot but does anyone remember a game that was Frankenstein ish monster game where you fight monsters an get new body parts for ur monster to make it stronger I don’t remember anything else about it it’s in the back of my mind I played it when I was a kid I don’t remember anything else tho I wish I could remember more

Get a PC and an emulator. Easier and in the long run, cheaper. Along with Genesis, SNES, NES, and many more emulators. 🤷♂️

I miss a few games like Luigi's Mansion, Star Fox Adventures Tales Of Symphonia, Wario World and Time Splitters 3.
I think Twilight Princess is a superior game to Wind Waker. I find both games to be classics, but Twilight Princess is such a huge step forward for the series, much more than Wind Waker, that I tend to rank it much higher.
I agree, although the real reason for TP > WW is because WW kinda sucked (the graphic was the only good part). The gameplay was nothing but pain. The entire boat section was nothing but very very dull thing, and [mapping, taking picture, salvaging] were mind-numbing due to lack of action (you go to a place, then you press a button). WAY too much frustration. There were only 4 dungeons (plus 1 final dungeon), which was very very lackluster. The combat was literally no challenge -- boomerang for the most part, and you win. And for the rest fights, you just stand still until the "win" button shows up, and you win.
I also prefer TP by a mile, WW is one of the most overrated games of all time imo (still a good game but on the weaker side when it comes to this series´ standard).
I agree with the game play. It seemed a bit "lacking" however the game looks great and the dungeons are good. The rest... yeah... it's a lacking game.
Imo, WW is a great game but not in Top 5. Also TP is not that great either, I find it boring.
I also didn't rate WW. I always felt it was one of the weaker ones, as far as Zelda games go (although maybe that's partly because the series as a whole is so strong?) .The overworld is a largely featureless ocean, with a handful of absolutely tiny islands scattered about. The cell graphics seemed cool at first, but I ultimately felt it was a bit lacking. Not much there to explore.

I MUST disagree with you about which Zelda game was the best. TP is LEAGUES beyond better than WW was. WW is the only Zelda game that i dropped. The Cell shading look and the less than stellar story just made me disinterested in the game. TP however had EVERYTHING that I always wanted in a Zelda game since it came out in 3D with OoT. To this day I still think it's the peak Zelda game.
Top 5 in no particular order = Metroid Prime 1 & 2, The Wind Waker, Resident Evil 4, Beyond Good & Evil.
Honorable mentions = Prince Of Persia, Twilight Princess & Eternal Darkness
The rest? meh!

If we're strictly speaking about the GC versions only, then Zelda TP beats WW by a huge gap. GC version of WW was nothing but pain (gameplaywise). The graphic was the only good part about WW.

Resident Evil 1 (remake)!!!!
I had to get used to the controls which bothered me, but once I did, I played it twice. I didn’t like the final boss and ending though.
In resident evil: code Veronica, there’s a glitch you can use to get infinite green herb (for healing.) I used it because I basically wanted to race through the game just to say I experienced it. It was enjoyable, and still somehow a challenge. Resident evil 4 will always be my favorite though. It’s the only shooter I put up there with goldeneye.
