First story is too unreal, OP could've just picked a few basic lands shown them to the officer and said "see? They are identical, no way to tell them appart" and anyone with a brain would've understood that Mark was either trying to rob the store or wouldn't have any proof that those were his cards and therefore he couldn't get any because they might as well be someone else's. This is either extremely biased or simply a false story

Nah the cop was teaching a lesson about buying second hand products.
I had a GF get hooked on pills and she sold all of my DVD's to a retailer at the fleamarket. I didn't have a full list (and there were hundreds) and so the cop was going to sieze all of the dudes stuff.
I told them I didn't want them to do that and they said the vendor needed to be taught a lesson. I picked out a couple that I knew I had in my collection (babylon 5 star trek and sopranos) and said that was all because this guy didn't know they were stolen and shouldn't have his business destroyed because I was dating a pill head.

it really doesn't, you can tell by her over emphasis on "Refugees" and calling anyone not brown as "Racist" she's some twitterite with a dire need to white knight on others behalves, more than likely making the entire story up OR WIDLY exaggerating what actually happened. These people tend to be uncontrollable compulsive liars, looking for brownie points with people they deem "refugees" or "Victims"

    *Option 1*
For my fellow disbelievers of story #1, I provide you the points to prove your theory:
    (1) The amount of money that must be claimed to be stolen is in excess of $500, and that is WITH a written report. If you cannot itemize, the investigation ends there. Let alone a bunch of $10 cards.
    (2) Detective, does that mean plain clothes? Uniformed? Uniformed police have body cams and provable information about who is responding/investigating that this whole story could show receipts.
(2b) ANY detective, would give you a business card with a contact number as you will need to contact them with more info etc.
    (3) Your store has cameras. #1 ask, if there is ever an investigation should be talk to owner/manager on duty and request footage. And there would then be footage of them in your store at your counter, "seizing" the evidence. Which they also don't just do without documentation as that is an easy way for it to be lost, mislabeled, etc.
    (4) You are the manager and you left you belongings in another location including any sort of documenting you may want such as cell phone etc?!?!?
    (5) "redlining", "university", "neuro divergent", etc as well as saying the police inferred a slur undermines the 'just the facts' telling as you are adding context that slants what should be a straightforward observation.
    (6) I, personally, have had cards stolen and resold. Even found the store. $5,000.00 USD worth (2x Legacy MTG decks). And the store owner could not verify what I was claiming as there is little documentation they were keeping at that time on sellers. They did verify for genuine cards. After my claims they did start an ID policy on all sales over $500 so that it could be investigated. But even with me rattling off exact numbers of which cards, it is just a claim.
    (7) If there is such a simple policy as "I give you cards, you give me cash", and you accept YGO, you might have quite a few counterfeits. Selling an entire binder should have been a chore unless the store's policies are loose.
    (8) The blatant repeat mentioning of the overt racism needs a town name. The idea store owners, and police are just telling the public in earshot about "those types of people" seems far fetched, especially for the exact prejudiced people to be so calm about an officer doing g in in front of a WHOLE store of witnesses.
    *Option 2*
STORE Owner could have already received contact and agreed to a forfeit of the "received stolen merchandise".
    (1) If the binder was easily described and uniquely identified by the cameras, there is already one part.
    (2) The seller could know and operate with the owner of the binder*. He could sell and the other one would be nearby, in the store etc. Then with the video cameras it can be proven the binder was received.
    (3) The police saying "these types" could have been an allusion to a repeat offender of this "my property was stolen and I can prove it" job. That exact officer could basically be politely letting you know through a vague language that this is a known scam that they cannot prove just yet.
    (4) If your store receives the right amount, the amount not able to be sued over, just enough to file a claim, it may be easier to just lose the money/product.
And, that person was never seen again... how odd?!?
    (5) Did not call the boss to verify the police were seizing product, also without much fuss or resistance?!?! Seems like that isn't the whole story.
Which again says, get a badge number. It must be provided upon request from the officer. The departments have enough scandals to worry about.
    (9) If you just let someone take product as evidence without argument, objection, assertion of "illegal search and seizure", etc etc, that counts as compliance. If the total product value is enough, and you have those cameras, the lawyers would love a phone call.
-Sorry North, that one stuck in my craw after the great interactions I have had with some officers in my town who truly do try to help but also don't do dumb stuff.

Non competitive tournaments exist. So do leagues. They're usually not advertised though.
Hordes in fantasy are hard to manage unless you plan for them. High elves though always fight first and are pretty good at fighting hordes with spears. I guess you had to be there. ☺️

Totally agree about tornaments, had some tourney players at my local store and no one liked playing them as majority of us brought balanced lists and theirs were extreme lists which weren't any fun to play against. Only rank and flank tourney I've been to was an oath mark one which was though smaller much more fluff based.

With regards to whether or not I have to stop painting when I'm listening to these nightmares? Nope, the stories help me get into a headspace where I am only thinking about the hobby, horse blinkers on.
There is something about having such regular updates from the channel, that make the hobby feel and stay "alive" for me, almost like a radio station with mental health/wellbeing advice peppered in.
It's been a good while since I had a decent understanding of 40k rules (8th/9th), so I'm not so encouraged to go to other 40k channels to listen in. At this point my brain interprets these battle reports like a handful of different boxes of puzzles, thrown into a cement mixer. No offence to those writing in that have plenty to say about their battles, I just appreciate when the story gets a fast forward when it gets too complex (for a hobbyist out of the rules loop).

He knew full well there was NO WAY he could prove any of those cards were his. He was robbing the store using the cops to do it. This was honestly the first hobby nightmare i had a hard time believing. The complaints that are likeky filed against that cop and the potential lawsuits against the force these days make it hard for me to believe. Not that im right. I may be 100% wrong. If you're in the US, they fall under Civil Asset Forfeiture. No warrant needed because they have "Reasonable suspicion.", in this case the crime victim pointing out the cards. Of course we know better as gamers, but any court would find "victim identified the cards" as reasonable. I won't go into all the details, but short version is if they don't wanna hand the stuff back, you can take them to court and fight them, but you'll probably pay more for a lawyer than MTG cards are worth.
The cops absolutely will not be punished due to qualified immunity, since they violated neither procedure, nor the letter of the law.
