I play a lot of One Page Rules games these days, started during 9th edition 40K. Miniatures agnostic, so the players with GW models can still use their minis. One of us bought the Age of Darkness box, which gave him a bloody huge army to play in OPR.
I quit today, after decades, like a divorce, i cried, how sad. But i couldnt keep up, the cost, the rules, the armies changing all the time. My story is the same, i took a break for years, i came back to it and felt completely secluded. I had an obsession period, then painted and made scenery, it started to become a chore. I couldnt justify the time and money on it when i have a 2 year old.
I totally understand. The cost is so prohibitive. It can be a lot of fun but the price tag is crazy. I miss it sometimes but am always reminded how hard it is to keep up with.
@@AndrewHawnt I feel ya, the community i was in begged me to stay, they are good guys, but different lives, different jobs, different earnings, we cant all keep up with it.
I left Warhammer do to cost and GW constantly updating their models and rules every 5 to 10 years. I migrated to Fantasy RPG and Battletech which has changed very little in terms of rules since the 1980s.
I started the hobby at the very end of 8th right before the indomitus release. Lota fun couldn't afford more than the starter set until i got a job a year later. Ive spent at least 5k on 40k and enjoyed it and now that I have a sizeable collection idk what to do. I shouldn't buy more just to play since i maybe get 1 game in per month and as much fun as the hobby is its time consuming and going to college is already a lot. I don't think il fully leave the hobby but im selling off smaller parts of my collections and trying to distances myself from money hungry GW. I just have a big collection im at a place many hobbiest would love but I just feel nothing there is only wanting more.
Card games are fun but as I get older I find myself preferring plastic to cardboard. 100% agree that prices should come down though, GW needs to stop pricing things based on their power level and just offer models for standard prices. I think there is a real discussion of potential profits there, getting more people to play can make up for lost margins on overly expensive miniatures but obviously I'm not part of their business and am only assuming.
Exactly! The idea of lower prices = higher sales makes perfect sense to me! The minis don't cost much to make and the markup is insane. Maybe it's because higher sales would overstretch the one factory they have?
I only play Warhammer with my 12 year old Son, so i'm just gonna make my own scratch built guys, and make my own fair rules up. I thought of having this glitchy mech who wanders off the battlefield every other round for an unknown reason. 😂 We both have an insane amount of imagination, so i thought,"Stuff it! I'll get some beads, wire, cogs and superglue and make my own unique army" haha! I know how you feel Dude! 37.50 for ten troops! Uhhhh...nnnah! 🤣
Yes! That's more like it! I played it with my sons too but they quickly lost interest, which was a shame as it was so fun to do something away from consoles. My eldest was at Crusader Club at Warhammer for a few months and it was such a positive experience. I miss WH but just can't keep up with the pace of product or the crazy costs. Hope you and your son have a blast with it!
@@AndrewHawnt I can't get my head around the Detachment thing. It says i can use 12 elites across my chosen 3 detachments, but the codex says i can only have 10 elites max...🤨😶😑😶...So yyyyeah! My miners turned fighters are gonna just be simplified mechs/astronauts. Got some sweet parts to use as heads etc. We should have a great time. Who knows i might inspire my Son to scratch build HIS own stuff. 😃😆😂

The reason I am now playing solo agnostic miniature games.

That sounds much more like it!
Went on to Star Wars Legion. No regrets.
