Hearing them all listed makes me realise Tyrranids are the good guys of 40k half the armies will slaughter you and tell you its for your own good or Gods will, the other half do it because its just fun. The Tyrranids are like sorry i have to eat you but I've got a queen and 40000 hormagaunts at home and a guy has to look after his family
I mean The Tau are trying to genuinely unite people 🤣 The Orks are just having fun And the Necrons are just kicking a bunch of children off their damn lawn
"How good an army is right now is no indication how good it will be in the future" I built a beautiful Sisters army, finished it the same week 10th edition hit...
I feel your pain - the Sisters playstyle this index is a big shift from last edition. Hopefully once the codex drops (and don't have to wait too long to get it), we will have access to a few more interesting detachments - especially something like bloody rose. On the plus side you do have an amazing army to learn the edition with and build upon! I finished building my votann force, primed and started airbrushing the armour until I read the rules for 10th and jumped back to a different force I hadn't finished up as Votann's index is in an awful place. Fingers crossed the balancing GW try to do in September helps us both out!
@@TheCommandPhase the rule I adhere to is that I judge a kit based on how it performs on the crafting table not the playing table and that army leveled up my painting skills over and over again. Even people who don't play them could benefit from the repentia kit if they're learning to tone flesh. Asthetics wise the best looking models I own are my purple girls. No regrets.
@@TheCommandPhase say you spend thousands of dollars over the yrs building and painting your army and you wanna quite, can you ever try and SELL your army and pieces? is there a website for this? do people every make money from selling their collections or is it basically dead money from a financial sense every time?
@@TheCommandPhase no ones ever asked you this question but who if i like every army and i just wanna collect and paint the BIGGER characters from whatever army they might be from and not play with them in competition but just out them in my glass cabinet and admire them, does anyone actually do that? just buy big characters from whichever army that just look cool and thats it?
I got into the hobby about a year ago. Almost done with my Tyranids army. Norn Emissary model is phenomenal looking. And I have hormagaunts. So many hormagaunts.
I’m torn between three choices: Sisters of Battle, because killer space nuns seem cool. The Tau because I like the whole communist space weebs vibe. Finally the Tyranids because they are the most relatable to me for I too feel the overwhelming need to eat everything I see.
All of those are really cool options and I totally feel you with reasoning behind nids 😅 First up which models do you think look the coolest and you'd most want to paint up? From that I'd say pick up a unit and build and paint them up. If you really enjoyed that and can see yourself building more and painting that faction up, then you've found the one. Else jump over to your next favourite until you find the one for you.
Nids were my first army back in like 3rd edition, best decision. Played them with the shops models in a little starter session the very first time I walked into a games workshop in 2002 and immediately fell in love with their whole vibe
I’ve spent soooooo much money on Nids….and I’m very happy with the money spent. I have close to 200 models and I still don’t think I have enough 🤣. I’ve been painting mine metallic as a “living metal” theme just to make them different. Maybe to make them a little less wary of Necrons!
I love you bringing up the "Rule of Cool" that's so important in D&D games i play and run. I'm just getting into warhammer and am very torn between Grey Knights, Dark Angels, Deathwatch and Salamanders...
So the Deathwatch have now been incorporated into the imperial agents codex that has just released, so aren't a fully fledged space marine army anymore - but more tools for the inquisitors. All of the other choices there remain the same and each are really cool options. The main thing really is which do you prefer the look of between them all?
I’ve been looking into warhammer but it seems so daunting with the prices and all this different aspects you actually broke it down really well and it’s either Custodes or orcs for me
I’m glad the video was able to help you out! Both are really great armies there and great for helping you get into the hobby and learn all of the different aspects - hope you have a great time with whichever you end up picking!
I am currently choosing between the Grey Knights, Adepta Sororitas and Necrons, thank you for the video (though it didnt make my choice much easier, I enjoy the looks of the sisters and necrons, the lore/concept of the Grey Knights and Necrons and the imperial loyalist in me is for Grey Knights or the Sisters...)
I mean all three of those are fantastic armies, each with very different playstyles! Necrons are in a good spot with their new codex dropping so you’ve at least got access to all of the different playstyles, granted grey knights and sisters will get theirs soon enough! Honestly I’d pick whichever you like the look of the most and can see yourself painting up. My advice there would be to grab a box of infantry, build and paint them up and see which you enjoyed the most!
What does a new codex dropping mean? I'm also starting the hobby and recently got the Sister's Combat Patrol. It seems there were changes to the data sheet lately (in terms of unit costing) that make the sisters a bit better than when 10th ed started? @@TheCommandPhase
@welldan Sorry for the confusion. It means that their new 10th edition codex should be coming out soon (This summer). So with that would come a fair number of new detachments and updates to allow sisters players move variety in their lists and gameplay styles. Hopefully bringing back the more melee focussed bloody rose option we had in 9th edition. In terms of the most recent balance dataslate and points updates. There was a slight nerf to sisters in the sense of the Triumph of St Katherine combo with miracle dice was reduced, which it needed to really and makes using miracle dice more impactful over the course of the game. We got a lot of points changes, some very much for the better so hopefully it means you can just enjoy building a list you want to play, rather than auto-including that one combo. It was a good update and thankfully, the likes of Paragon Warsuits, repentia and retributions all getting a points drop which is great. Hopefully you enjoy putting your combat patrol together and expanding on your army in the future. The sisters have an absolutely stunning model range!
Phenomenal video! I’m new to the hobby and you did a great job giving an overview of every army without making it overwhelming! Keep up the great work :)
Thank you for your kind words and Welcome to the hobby! I'm glad you found the video useful, it's a big topic but hopefully you've found a faction you like the look of! I've got a new video coming out later on today (6pm GMT) discussing how to start your first 40k army, so you may well find that useful also! If you have any questions going forward in your hobby journey, please feel free to reach out and I'll do what I can to help.
@@TheCommandPhase what is BETTER to chose an army, and than buy HUNDREDS of small foot soldier type pieces or just a few foot soldior type pieces and than get 2-3 HUGE pieces like space ships or bikes etc... or armoured carriers
@@TheCommandPhase ok im very new and im still very confused. it started with me wanting to read the books, but then i started watching videos about the game, and now im choosing an army. in other words i need help!
@@TheCommandPhase actually i do have one question. are the death korps of krieg a playable faction? because i have always thought they were really intresting but i havent see anyone play as them or anything
So death corps of krieg would come under the Astra militarum and it’s an aesthetic choice now rather than specific rules for that sub faction. The downside is bar the kill team box of miniatures, the majority of their troops are old Finecast sculpts which would cost a fortune to build and pain to work with, but if you wanted to play as them, then obviously don’t let that put you off. There are rumours that they’ll get a new range release in the future but certainly take that with a pinch of salt. I’d love to see it, but no idea if it’ll actually happen.
I'm thinking of going with the Dark Angels, I love their whole knightly aesthetic, and I recently picked up "Lion: Son of the Forest" on Audible with my free credit. For a while now I've been on the edge of diving into the Warhammer 40k lore and talking with some of my buddies over the years I knew that at some point I'd end up diving in. At first, I was caught between the Space Wolves for their viking look and the Dark Angels. In the end, the first legion won out. Also, Lion El'Johnson gives me some Dalinar Kholin vibes to anyone who has read Brandon Sanderson's "Stormlight Archives," which after reading the Lion book further supplant my choice of legion. For the Rock! For Caliban! FOR THE LION!r viki
They’re a great choice! Really interesting story, great characters and the new Lion models is amazing, I’ve even bought it just to paint up! The knightly aesthetic is something I really like and the books I’ve read in the Horus heresy of them made them quite a likeable chapter. I’ve not read the new Lion novel but I’ve heard great things! Hope you enjoy starting your force and getting into this fantastic hobby.
I’ve been collecting Necrons since 4th, and stopped shortly after their first major update. I think a video on updating your army for returning players is a good idea
I mean tau have got some nice goodies coming in the Kroot if that’s your thing. But in terms of those 3 armies it’s good to see 2 being very melee oriented in the blood angels and world eaters to give you an opposite gameplay style and the experience will help you potentially improve your tau gameplay too learning how to deal and deal with shooting/melee armies. Honestly you can’t go wrong with any of them so I’d say if you have a favourite aesthetically, go for that one 👍
Hello Adam! I am only days into learning about Warhammer but leaning to Tau. Would you recommended them for a beginner being how familiar you are them? Im super into DnD and StarCraft if that helps with any similar mechanics.
I chose the tsons because I love their asthetic, lore and although they have some of the tougher rules and management I'm not super competitive and the wins will come in time. And if they don't I still get to hangout and play what I love. Great video!
They really are an amazing faction and totally agree with loving their aesthetic! And because it’s a faction you love then it’ll actually end up being a lot easier to learn their rules than most of the others with your enthusiasm for them. Hope you have a great time collecting and I’d love to see some of your completed models 👍
I am just about to start my hobby journey after watching Space Marine II on UA-cam, also reading the First and Only, the hook to this incredible universe is huge. I walked around a Warhammer shop for ages just looking and not really understanding where everything fits so Thank you for this video, it brought everything into a package which is a great start to understanding a bit more. Originally I was thinking about Astra Militarum, due to loving Gaunt's Ghosts, but hearing on here about Space Wolves brings in another fascination of Vikings, so I now have my choice. Once again thank you! will be binging your videos for a while I think.
When i was a kid i chose Tau because i loved Gundam and to this day, theres just something about the Tau that i love, so sleek, clean and beautiful in a world full of destruction, the true bastion of hope for the universe. Ty for this video, very cool.
Excellent video sir! I enjoyed every second of it. Even as an old player it’s good to get another view for the start of a new project :) AND you have the perfect podcast voice :D so chill to listen to you!
Being a huge fan of Gundam and Titanfall and just about anything that involves mechs. I freaking love the Tau. I wish they were just a bit more capable up close but overall i’ve had a lot of fun playing with them so far.
@@TheCommandPhase Unfortunately not yet. His model was almost the first kit i bought but my friend said i should focus on building up my army first. Im still very new to the warhammer world so im learning as I go, but i plan on picking up Farsight very soon!
imo theres four main things to look for 1. the vibe of the models 2. the lore 3. the playstyle 4. find a paintscheme you like that goes well with the army. lore prolly being the least important because sometimes its fun to make your own lore for your own dudes, for example, imperial/chaos knights are very good at this because you can create the lore of your own house lineage. in general I think knights are kinda lackluster lorewise but I saw this as more of a positive, like a blank slate for me to pour my writing skills upon also before you get some models I would look around and find a paintscheme that resonates with you.
I agree that creating your own lore is a great aspect of the hobby and is such a nice way to make an army your own. Pairing that with a unique colour scheme and even some kitbashing can make for some truly striking armies that are all your own. Great comment 👍
I'm really glad UA-cam recommended this to me today, as I was trying to dip into the tabletop side after being a huge fan of the lore and some of the games, been considering between Krieg and Blood Angels, hopefully this video will help me decide
Well the good thing for you is that the new blood angels codex and models will be going up for preorder tomorrow and the krieg will be getting a big range refresh at the start of the new year - so perfect timing really to jump in!
I'm glad it was helpful - this is a fairly new channel but the aim is to help new players into the hobby. I hope you've found a faction you like the look of! I've got a new video coming out later on today (6pm GMT) discussing how to start your first 40k army, so you may well find that useful also! If you have any questions going forward in your hobby journey, please feel free to reach out and I'll do what I can to help 👍
Thank you for your kind words and watching the video, I’m glad to see you enjoyed it! I’m pretty pleased so far how well it’s doing considering I’m a very new channel :)
Awesome - it's an incredible game and I can see it being a gateway into the hobby for sure. Both of those two are great choices btw, but there is a huge amount of amazing lore to get stuck into if thats what helps you to decide which you'd like to pick up.
I cant wait to finally start collecting and playing. My gf and I are gonna start up the hobby when we can more easily afford it and we have the space for storage (which is a problem in our 1 Bedroom Apartment), really excited to play World Eaters
Awesome! Hope you have a fantastic time when you do start. World eaters are a great choice and should hopefully be getting some more new kits later in this edition too 👍
Already chose orks at the start of 10th edition but im thinking of starting a second army, absolutely no clue what to pick even now but this video was very helpful, thanks
You’re welcome - glad you found it useful. I mean you already have the coolest faction in 40K but hope you have a great time collecting whichever you pick next!
@@TheCommandPhase thought i’d let you know i’ve finally chosen chaos daemons undivided, rewatched the video and then read their index rules and realised they’re basically just orks but a bit more diverse in play style. thanks for the video
I thought of starting a Sisters Of Battle army when I got into Warhammer, but when Leviathan dropped, I opted for Space Marines for ease of collecting and painting. Since then, I have amassed quite the army of Space Marines. Troops, Elites, Characters, and a variety of Vehicles, which I am still in the process of painting.
@@TheCommandPhase a Space Marine chapter called Iron Snakes. They're an Ultramarine successor chapter. A gun metal silver colored armor, white pauldron with a red trim, their heraldry being a blue snake. Picked them for ease of painting and because they don't have a lot of canon art, so I get to take liberties when painting their non-standard troop units.
@TheCommandPhase thanks bud. Looking into either space wolves or space/ultramarines. Very tempted to get the ultimate starter pack so I can field two small armies right out of the box and play with a friend and also have the rule books etc. You recommend that or just getting a combat patrol?
Those are two great options, space wolves are very thematic which I'm personally a big fan of, but the space marines are a cool army and plenty of ways to build at a discount. The ultimate starter set is really good value (especially if you can pick it up from a discount game store as some do up to 20% off!). plus you get a small amount of terrain to get started too. To be fair if you don't end up wanting to build the nids you can always sell that combat patrol half on ebay to make your overall cost cheaper. Plus the Space Marine codex will be coming out within the next month which is pretty exciting to see what rules and options you get to expand and play. If you wanted to go down the space wolves route, their combat patrol isn't a bad choice although I do think you'd probably find the marine combat patrol more fun to build and play and you can always paint them up as space wolves if you did decide that's the army you'd like to expand into.
I'm about to get started in creating a Warhammer 40k focused channel myself. Thanks for the upload. I'm currently researching which faction to start my journey with. Currently I'm leaning Orks, but we'll see as I plan on finalizing my choice and making my first purchase within the next 2 weeks. :)
Oh awesome, you’ll have to let me know once you have started making content. Would be interested to see what you start doing! Orks are a fantastic choice and so diverse too! I have far too much fun reading the books like Da Red Gobbo that’s come out at Christmas the past two years, along with others Mike Brooks has written. Best of luck with your choices, you’ll have to let me know what you pick up!
Got this send by a mate today, always thought the 40k Universe was interesting for years but never played anything from it until Darktide released - no space to store stuff. Then I bought a beginner set at a gaming/japan/tabletop convention esrlier this year so I could have some space marines as display pieces - not knowing how small they were xD After watching the vid, I think the Leagues if Votann are my choice, a different friend and I joke that we swiss are dwarfes (we dig tunnels through the alps and everywhere else) so the army feels like fate xD
Maybe Games Workshop will start accepting them as currency 😂 On a serious note, there is a video on the channel in ways to save money collecting if you needed ways to keep your kidney inside your body 😝
New player here! Bought my first set it’s the introductory set including the 5x Space Marines and opposing Tyranids. Going into the video now I have 3-4 factions in mind I really like for various reasons. Let’s see what I find out in this video!
@@TheCommandPhase Okay I’ve made a choice I’ve gone with the Tyranids with the style of Hive Fleet Kronos, Red Carapace and Black Body. I like the idea of tyranids that hunt Chaos and Demons despite knowing that they receive little to no sustenance from it. It’s a really cool concept and my current models from the starter set look really cool so far. I’m building up from there. Hopefully it’ll be a great introduction army for Me! But if I were to choose a different one in the future my likes include: Iron Warriors, Necrons, Salamanders or Thousand Sons
At this point I'm more into learning about the game and getting a sense of the universe, but I am a big sucker for pisonics/magic, so I'm loving the Grey Knights, Thousand Sons, and the Aeldari.
There is a lot of amazing lore in the 40K universe so you’ll have plenty to get your teeth stuck into! Those are 3 really cool armies, although even with the trim I’m a sucker for Thousand Sons. Magnus is just too cool! (He definitely didn’t do anything wrong)
Thank you for the kind words! It certainly did take a while, I think the render time itself was something like 17 hours too 😂 but I'm really pleased with how it came out!
Man got to say, I’ve been wanting to get into warhammer for ages and watched countless videos, but this is by far the most helpful one with a breakdown of each one! Thanks man, thinking of going with Astra Militarum or Black Templars.
I’m really glad to hear you found it useful. Two great factions there and a lot of fun whichever you end up going for! Hope you have a great time collecting 🙂
@Guardian037 If you’ve got a GW near you they often do painting sessions with a free model to try. You’ll find if you brace your hands together alongside elbows at your side or table I’m sure you’ll be fine 👍 the bracing hands together keeps the shakes together rather than separate so it becomes easier than you might think.
Awesome video! I’m looking to get into Warhammer. I feel, if you’re this passionate about your videos, you’re this passionate about 40K! Can’t wait to get started! Please keep putting out great content!!!
That’s awesome that you are looking to get into Warhammer - Welcome to the hobby! I’m very glad you enjoyed the content, your kind words mean a lot to me. Is there a specific faction you’re thinking of getting started with to jump into the hobby?
I’ve already started playing AoS, but thinking of hopping in to 40K, but I’m torn between like 4 factions, maybe 5. lol. I’m a father of two so finding big time for the hobby can be difficult as well, and that’s a factor. So far I’m interested in: Sisters: Space nuns with Space guns! How cool is that? Love the Catholic imagery too, as art history is a passion of mine. League: Space dwarves! Not sure how hard they are to paint but they look sick! Orks: love the grimy ramshackle look. Genestealer Cults: Because insidious cults are narratively awesome! (Maybe) Knights: because I love mechs. I’m torn between aesthetics and realistic painting projects as well. It’s a tough call for me.
All of those options are fantastic (slightly biased as I have 3 out of the 4 😂). In regards to the amazing Leagues of Votann, the painting is actually pretty straight forward, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. Which army do you play in AoS? May this can be a different syle compared? But in all honesty whichever you think is the coolest and love the model range the most from I'd recommend picking up first 👍
@@TheCommandPhase Hey, thanks for the quick response! In AoS I mostly play Gloomspite Gitz, but I have dipped into the spearhead for Flesh Eater Courts and Nighthaunt as well.
@@TheCommandPhase Hey, thanks for the quick response! In AoS I mostly play Gloomspite Gitz, but I have dipped into the spearhead for Flesh Eater Courts and Nighthaunt as well.
I stuck on the tau because like the greater or good matters the most and like we give them an option to surrender. But like I feel like I would get so much hate for useing the tau but I love staying back in big suits and shooting with big robot suits. But like idk to much how the tau play and the got changed in the new edition I heard. But idk what to buy to start. But great video really helped me get back into the hobby.
Honestly bud - please don’t worry about that, you certainly shouldn’t get any “hate” when playing them in person. If you wanted to play Tau, then go for it. They’re a really cool faction, great aesthetic, updated Kroot look awesome and you have new Vespid models coming in a future kill team. End of the day the models you like the most are the most important thing! In terms of starting out, the combat patrol is a good box for that Tau. Else if you wanted to start smaller, maybe look at grabbing a squad of breachers or the pathfinders kill team so that you have options to play that game while growing your 40K army - plus being a smaller box if you did decide actually these aren’t for me, then it’s not a huge cost investment to swap to a different faction. But please don’t let people discourage you from choosing a faction you really like.
But what a model to have at the centrepiece of your army! I’d definitely take a look on eBay or Facebook marketplace to see if there any new on sprue models around from the 7th edition starter sets. There may be some around to help make it a bit cheaper 👍 Thank you for commenting and you’re more than welcome, glad you found the video helpful 🙂
@@TheCommandPhase took your advice and picked up a Mortarion on marketplace and I couldn’t be happier. Will post a picture of my first attempt at painting him sometime! :)
Remember that there are also tabletop games like Kill Team you might be able to use a smaller group of models for. So if a full 40k army is a big ask, you can still get started with even just a single squad and the Kill Team rules/etc..
I am so torn between a few. I love the Thousand Sons because awesome Egyptian vibe with nice colours. I like the Space Wolves, Orks, World Eaters and Nids too.
I really have no idea how i came to black templars.... but it's kind of spiritual in a sense. How BTs are on a crusade to cleanse evil, and I in my life trying to clean up my past and live closer to the lord.
Thanks for the great intro guide - just getting back into 40k now after many years away and trying to make up my mind between Tyranids, Space Marines or Chaos Space Marines. I think I like the play style of the Chaos Marines best but tbh not that keen on the models, where as I've always really liked the look of the Tyranids but not sure I I will enjoy the play style. Normal Space Marines just seems like a safe option - they look easy to paint and GW will never neglect them (like they did with my previous 2 Armies!).
No problem and welcome back to the hobby! They’re all great choices and to be fair you can play each in a variety of ways. Especially now the codex has dropped for both the Tyranids and Space Marines. Although, it’ll still probably come down to the models and what you’d prefer to paint up. The positive is with them both being in the starter sets and having new Christmas boxes it’s a great time to get into either army on a budget! Either way I’m sure you’ll have a great time and if you have any questions do let me know and I’ll do my best to help!
@Wildwolface77 They aren’t a standalone faction these days with their own book, but a chapter you can pick in the Space Marines Codex itself. So they fit into that section of the video. Plus with the upcoming Codex allowing you to play whichever detachment you’d like as any colour scheme, which chapter you pick is more for aesthetic purposes. Black legion are the same with the Chaos Space Marine section as their previous codex and current index covers all of those in one book. Plus like I mentioned earlier, with 10th edition it’s more of an aesthetic choice. If you wanted a video on each marine chapter that is something I could look into.
I just started looking into this hobby, I was hoping for information on Iron Hands and Ultramarines. It seems your video left them out On the plus side, Astra Militarum looks like I could be a terror with them!
Sorry I didn’t explain in the video that the first founding chapters of the space marines (like the ultramarines, iron hands, imperial fists, raven guard and salamanders) that don’t have their own standalone codex like the blood angels are more of an aesthetic choice in 10th. While there are detachments in the space marines codex that are themed on each of those chapters you can play as any you’d like and paint up your army however you’d like to. Hopefully that helps in that regards.
I feel like you could mention price to collect and state of the model range a bit more in a video like this. I understand that they dont fit the "sales pitch" style you went from here, but to me those seem fairly relevant, especially to someone thats building up a collection from nothing.
That's a good point and I tried to include a cost indicator on the side graphic in the second half of each army when talking about the tabletop aspect of each. Apologies if that wasn't too clear. But this is certainly an idea I could do as a future video to help newer players, so thank you for the feedback/suggestion.
Been playing eldar necrons and grey knights six 6th editions ending days.. there are ups and there a deep downs for every faction depending on the edition you’re playing. Honestly you should pick whatever flavor you prefer. And if anything I’d agree with if you are on a budget try to avoid a swarm army orks nids etc unless it’s your fav flavor and you must just have them.
Awesome video. Thank you for it. Now I have a good starting point to go off of. but the choice will be tough because so many of these armies look dope.
Black templars, death guard and necrons are by far the coolest. I'll start by getting a couple of each since there's no reason for me to build an army (40k isnt a big thing in my country so i'll never get to play it anyways)
Sorry to hear there isn’t much Warhammer going on in your county, but hopefully you enjoy the hobbying side and you never know it might pick up in the future!
This helped clear things up but I am still at a loss for who I want to play. Tyranids look amazing, Chaos (Death Gaurd) appeal to me so much. Lore wise and playstyle. But then there are the Dark Angels! They just feel so bad ass.. Ahhh, Emperor help me.
They’re all really great armies and you won’t certainly won’t have any problems learning any of them on the tabletop. So the best advice I have from here is to pick up a model/kit of the army you think looks the coolest, try building and painting it up to see if you enjoy it and can see yourself doing more of them. If it works out that you do, then you’ve found the one for you. Else pick the next favourite on the list. If either of those are tyranids or the dark angels, if you live in the UK there is the combat patrol magazine currently just launched which has Tyranids and space marines really cheap right now. Not sure if/when it’ll be reaching other countries, but as both were in the starter boxes for the edition the secondary market (like eBay) should have kits from it at a heavy price reduction too compared to buying directly from GW or an online store (which is typically 10-20% off) Death guard were the starter faction a couple editions ago so there might still be some bargains around. Hope that is of some help to you, and whichever you decide, I’d love to see some pictures once you’ve got some painted up 👍
i love the xenos, and as much as i love the idea of swarming the enemy with tyranids or making new stuff with the orks, i've been leaning into necrons due to their lore and ease of use. i've heard they're a lot cheaper and easier to paint.
Necrons are a great choice and as they had a refresh and were the starter force army in 9th edition there hopefully will still be some bargains around on the second hand market. Definitely an easy paint job too 👍
@@TheCommandPhase do you think it would be too difficult for a newcomer to build a tyranid army starting from the 10th edition starter box? if not, i might lean towards that..
Not at all - the new Tyranids range is fantastic with all of the new sculpts. The only piece of advice I’d give is head to the second hand market like eBay and look for Tyranids halves of either the Leviathan boxed set or the ultimate starter set as they’ll be a lot cheaper than buying the combat patrol. The ultimate starter set half is the combat patrol which you should get cheaper than the combat patrol box easily enough more or the leviathan half for a similar price but get more models for your money. Hope that helps and if you do go that route, enjoy the bugs!
Thank you for the kind words - means a lot! It's a fairly new channel so it's growing pretty good rate, but if you know anyone who may be interested in this or any other of my videos, sharing will make a huge difference!
I think the blood angels had the red thirst before Sanguinius died, I believe they had it even before he showed up. It's just the black rage that was new after he died. I may be wrong though, I'm new to the lore
Ended up ordering two squads (sorry, I don’t know the actual names) of Death Guard minis because I really enjoy Nurgle’s Warriors of Chaos in Total War: Warhammer III. Adeptus Mechanicus also looks very cool though!
@@TheCommandPhase Nailed it. Bought both. My girlfriend is interested in painting them with me so I wanted to start small and not overwhelm either of us with a million Poxwalkers lmao.
Def getting a world eater army cuz melee sounds more fun and I enjoy painting minis and angron is such a great mini I can’t wait to have a go at him if I ever get a second army then that would probably dark angels and bonus it comes with another primarc
Great choice there! Angron is an incredible model and their combat patrol is really good value for money. I hope you have a great time collecting them!
Both of them are really cool factions with a great variety of models. Do either of those armies miniature range call out to you or is there another you like the look of the minis the most?
@TheCommandPhase I love most of the models that the Necrons have! They're cool. I just had a guy at games workshop help me paint my first space marine, and I had so much fun taking my time. While painting I was just thinking I'd want a really cool detailed army, you know?
@@myfriendscallmecoach9911Necrons are as intricate as you want to paint them. They can look amazing simply painted but also accept high detail very well.
There is a good time for new Tyranids-Players to join? Count me in then! I choose the Onslaught Swarm pack because I like the 2 big bois on the cover and I have a lot of little guys to field if I need it in the future. I am planning on buying some other monsters too and drive down the quantity a bit of the army for quality.
So many amazing models to choose from too, you’ll have an amazing time! I’m not sure if a norn emissary is what you’d potentially be after in your army, but that model is incredible!
When you love Slanesh and their Drhukari (fuq your fantasy spelling!) but they are just NOT your play style: guess the hobee will just have to be twice as expensive.
1. Tyranids 2. Aeldari 3. Ultra Marines That’s my most interested in play by order, and a big part of it is simply StarCraft. 😆 I only want 1,000 pts for last 2, I’m not stopping with the Nids until I can play 3,000 pts.
I'm surprised the Votann didn't make the list with the StarCraft theme - the helmeted options look pretty close. 3 great armies there you have chosen and Nids look a lot of fun, hope you enjoy them!
@@TheCommandPhase I recently was able to pick up the leviathan box, I’ve very much enjoyed both armies, already had boarding patrols for both. Now when I have an extra $400 to drop, I’ll grab combat/boarding patrols for Aeldari.
I'm going to buy, print, study, playing evertything related to w40k. I'm kinda new in this universe, and HOLY SHIT, it grabs my souls so hard ❤️ My armies will be... GREY KNIGHTS 😍
I still wish the Total Warhammer factions like Grand Cathay, Kislev, and the Vampire Coasts would eventually migrate into AoSz. (Or finally arrive in the Old World).
Picked 3 factions I was interested before watching. Apparently all 3 are slow, tanky, close ranged factions. Custodes, Death Guard, and Necrons. Still have no idea what to go with.
3 great choices right there, Thousand sons have some really nice looking models, espeically magnus, for that psychic heavy theme. Although the trim can be a bit off putting! Never been a better time to start Nids with their new codex and range refresh. Can get some real bargains on the second hand market for Leviathan and start collecting box halves or individual kits. Lots of fun playstyle choices and fairly easy to paint. Deathwatch are a really cool chapter of space marines and you can go to town on making them all very unique. With game balance being pretty good at the moment, it's 100% down to which you think look the coolest, fancy painting up and even which lore resonates the most with you (if you are into that). Hope you manage to decide and enjoy your new army!
@TheCommandPhase that's all very solid advice about the box halves. I just got an invite to a subreddit where people swap them. If I were going from lore exclusively I'd go Imperial Guard. I like the idea of the every day person still having the stones to organize and resist against overwhelming odds. I'd just hate to be that guy that rolls up with my little human army for everyone to destroy, all of whom expected a fun opponent (like the 1000 Suns for example). 🤣
Imperial guard are a pretty fun army tbh and I don't think anyone would find it less fun playing against them to any other faction really. That everyday human against the world of mystical creatures is one of the reasons I've just picked up the Cities of Sigmar army box as my first foray into AoS. Guard are a pretty expensive force to get into due to model count, but I certainly wouldn't count them out if you really enjoy them!
Im prepared to be hated but I just started collecting Craftworld Aeldari. No, I'm not a meta chaser or anything. I like all the things about them. Their look, lore and even play style! I like their desperate struggle. Their civilization in ruin and the ability to preserve their souls in wratih constructs and infinity circuits. All in all, I find them compelling and interesting!
You won’t be hated at all here, so I certainly wouldn’t worry about that. They are a really cool faction (who had some slightly overtuned rules) and honestly there is a lot to like about them. The Avatar is an incredible model and they’re finally getting some love with the aspect warriors (hopefully the rest get sorted soon). The lore as you mentioned is also really interesting. I’m glad you found an army you really enjoy, that’s what it’s all about 🙂
@@TheCommandPhase I say it only slightly seriously. I have heard they were quite OP in tournament play but I'm not likely to ever play in a tournament, but more just play in a local club. I have seen comments from a lot of people who absolutely hate them, one going so far to say don't bring them into a local game store because no one will want to play against you. I'm new to all this and never played a game before. I just picked them because I thought they were cool. 🤷 I'm not a crazy competitive type.
@XiongGou yeah, they were dominating the meta for a point this edition which has been brought back in line a bit with the balance data slates, but honestly I doubt any regular gamer is going to try and pick up the meta lists with 3 of each really powerful unit. And if someone is unwilling to play against them now, I’m sure you can find a better opponent who would that would make the game a far more enjoyable experience. I’m sure you’ll have no issues finding a game once your army is ready.
They are in a great place at the moment on the tabletop and one of the cheaper armies currently to collect! so I certainly wouldn’t rule them out if you like their lore and models.
Thanks for this and your other awesome videos and insane quality! Just getting into 40k because of friends and somehow the tyrianids just spoke to me at first sight😄 but I am unsure if it's the correct decision yet🤔 Anyhow, you got a new subscriber with me, keep up the great work! Edit: typo
I think that’s a great decision! The nids are a fantastic faction and honestly it’s the perfect time to get into them with their codex already being out and the huge range refresh, plus loads of bargains to be had on eBay/Facebook marketplace to get hold of them at a cheaper price. Hope you have loads of fun collecting them and welcome to the hobby! Thank you for the kind words about the videos and subscription. Really means a lot 🙂
I decided to start collecting Wolfspear - I liked the hunter idea and because in the lore these were the anti-authoritarian introvert Space Wolves instead of the loud extroverts. although not much has been written about the few-years-old Wolfspear..
yes this is helped me ! but... I don't know what to choose because "this army is good at shooting and melee range" is the thing we listen for list most of the armies and so it doesnt help to choose any army too..
I'll wait for Henry Cavill's WH 40k Film hope it will be a hit Maybe a few hobby store will pop up in my country and I'll get me self a black templar box haha Btw you got a new sub👍
To be fair as long as they do a better job than the Warcraft movie, I'm sure Warhammer will get a pretty good popularity boost when it does release. I'm looking forward to seeing what it ends up being. I do hope some more stores do pop up for you and nice choice with the black templars! Really cool faction. Thank you for commenting and the sub, really appreciate it!
I am currently torn between the tyrannids and the black templars black templars because of the “no little German boy meme” and tyrranids because the idea of an ever adapting fighting force seems pretty cool they also seem to be the most balanced between chaff and giant monsters with swarms of hormogaunts and termagants. Combined with big boys like tyrants swarmlords and carnifexes. I don’t really know anything about how the black templates play
I forgot to also say that I love okra because they have basically already won the are content with life they are to stupid to yearn for perfection and they just want to fight the are murder happy fungus boys
I'm just here because I am new to Warhammer and just want to 3D print cool models and want to learn how to paint them. But I do want to have a some kind of coherence so that if I ever want to I can use them as an army. I eventually wanna do some crossovers / proxies as well
I have been stuck between choosing a pure Tzeentch daemons army and a Thousand sons army because I want to play as the "bad guys" and in games I tend to enjoy magic stuff over close range stuff/shooting (with exceptions depends on the settings magic system but 40k is one of those where I like the psychic system). The thing is I am poor so I will probably just get a small amount of stuff collected for kill team specifically. The thing still making me torn between them is I feel like Thousand sons have better lore because they are tragic while Tzeentch is written like... Tzeentch but he is a BIG BAD and I like monsters and Daemons are cool big monsters.
I came to this video with 3 in mind. I narrowed it down to 6.
Sounds about right! Too many incredible choices - which did you narrow it down to?
I only have 4, lol. But had the same 4 coming in. This didn't help at all!😂
@@HephaestesVulcan Do you have model range from the 4 that you like the most?
Loooool same
Same
Hearing them all listed makes me realise Tyrranids are the good guys of 40k half the armies will slaughter you and tell you its for your own good or Gods will, the other half do it because its just fun. The Tyrranids are like sorry i have to eat you but I've got a queen and 40000 hormagaunts at home and a guy has to look after his family
The Hive Mind views other species as prey. It enjoys eating people.
The hive mind: I'm not evil, I just want snacks.
I mean
The Tau are trying to genuinely unite people 🤣
The Orks are just having fun
And the Necrons are just kicking a bunch of children off their damn lawn
Oh. Oh, was that...*loads bolter*...a heresy?
At the end of the day, that's what everyone is doing in Warhammer, except for the orcs. They just like war, it's their favorite pastime.
"How good an army is right now is no indication how good it will be in the future"
I built a beautiful Sisters army, finished it the same week 10th edition hit...
No regrets.
That's a great rule to live by in this hobby!
It truly is an incredible model. I’m tempted to grab one and I don’t even play nids!
I painted soooo many hormagaunts in my teens lol
now this is the level of quality i want to see when i want to absorb some 40k jazz, right on man! nice job on the video
Thank you so much - really glad you enjoyed the video and the aesthetic I was going for!
I’m torn between three choices: Sisters of Battle, because killer space nuns seem cool. The Tau because I like the whole communist space weebs vibe. Finally the Tyranids because they are the most relatable to me for I too feel the overwhelming need to eat everything I see.
All of those are really cool options and I totally feel you with reasoning behind nids 😅
First up which models do you think look the coolest and you'd most want to paint up? From that I'd say pick up a unit and build and paint them up. If you really enjoyed that and can see yourself building more and painting that faction up, then you've found the one. Else jump over to your next favourite until you find the one for you.
Nids were my first army back in like 3rd edition, best decision. Played them with the shops models in a little starter session the very first time I walked into a games workshop in 2002 and immediately fell in love with their whole vibe
Which army did you end up going with? Literally torn between these exact ones myself.
Ork players are the most fun people in the world. Chaotic neutral turned up to 11
I plan on using table top simulator. I'm not sure I want to shell out the money for an actual army.
Orks dressed as Custodes
@@TheCommandPhase what is BETTER to chose an army, and than buy HUNDREDS of small foot soldier type pieces or just a few foot soldior type pieces and than get 2-3 HUGE pieces like space ships or bikes etc... or armoured carriers
Nothing that costs 3 salaries and takes 1-2 years to finish , is just a fame.

That's a great idea, thank you for sharing.
After playing Tau for 10 years , I'm looking at starting a new army. I 'm torn between Blood Angels, Grey Knights or World Eaters
I'm so glad you found the video helpful and I hope you enjoy your hobby journey. Space Marine 2 is fantastic!
When i was a kid i chose Tau because i loved Gundam and to this day, theres just something about the Tau that i love, so sleek, clean and beautiful in a world full of destruction, the true bastion of hope for the universe.
Ty for this video, very cool.

Glad to hear you are enjoying them - I assume you’ve got Farsight leading your force?
@@TheCommandPhase Unfortunately not yet. His model was almost the first kit i bought but my friend said i should focus on building up my army first. Im still very new to the warhammer world so im learning as I go, but i plan on picking up Farsight very soon!
Very helpful and really really well edited video! Great job, keep it up. You’ve just earned a new subscriber
Thank you for the Sub and those kind words - really glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful!
imo theres four main things to look for
1. the vibe of the models
2. the lore
3. the playstyle
4. find a paintscheme you like that goes well with the army.
lore prolly being the least important because sometimes its fun to make your own lore for your own dudes, for example, imperial/chaos knights are very good at this because you can create the lore of your own house lineage. in general I think knights are kinda lackluster lorewise but I saw this as more of a positive, like a blank slate for me to pour my writing skills upon
also before you get some models I would look around and find a paintscheme that resonates with you.
I agree that creating your own lore is a great aspect of the hobby and is such a nice way to make an army your own. Pairing that with a unique colour scheme and even some kitbashing can make for some truly striking armies that are all your own.
Great comment 👍
tyranids seem so fun but helldivers 2 has conditioned me to not play them lmao
Haha! It’s a fantastic game
Man, i really am torn between sisters, imperial guard, and grey knights. So many cool options
There really are - I mean I’ve personally got 5 factions on the go and always eyeing up others xD

I'm really glad UA-cam recommended this to me today, as I was trying to dip into the tabletop side after being a huge fan of the lore and some of the games, been considering between Krieg and Blood Angels, hopefully this video will help me decide

Dark Angels and Grey Knights caught my attention. But I am just getting into Warhammer 40k from playing Space Marines 2 so I need to learn more lore.

Space Marines are a great choice - what paint scheme did you go for in the end?
@@TheCommandPhase a Space Marine chapter called Iron Snakes. They're an Ultramarine successor chapter.
A gun metal silver colored armor, white pauldron with a red trim, their heraldry being a blue snake.
Picked them for ease of painting and because they don't have a lot of canon art, so I get to take liberties when painting their non-standard troop units.
@cytorakdemon that’s awesome! 👍
Just getting into 40K and your videos are extremely helpful. Thanks and keep it up!
Welcome to this great hobby! Thank you for the kind words and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Which army are you thinking of getting started with?
@@TheCommandPhase Thank you so much for all the advice! I will have a think before going down and buying my first pack. Take it easy man :).
Then I bought a beginner set at a gaming/japan/tabletop convention esrlier this year so I could have some space marines as display pieces - not knowing how small they were xD
After watching the vid, I think the Leagues if Votann are my choice, a different friend and I joke that we swiss are dwarfes (we dig tunnels through the alps and everywhere else) so the army feels like fate xD
They're a fantastic army too and the combat patrol is really good value for the army too - all of the models in there are key units.
this really helped, now i want 5 armies instead of 2. Where do i sell my kidney?
Maybe Games Workshop will start accepting them as currency 😂
On a serious note, there is a video on the channel in ways to save money collecting if you needed ways to keep your kidney inside your body 😝

@@TheCommandPhaseoh man I’ve finished the video and I still don’t know what army I want to go forward with!!!
Do you have a favourite model range out of the lot?
@@eclements99 That sounds awesome - you'll have to show me the models once you're done on social media or the channel's discord!
Instructions unclear. I now own 4 armies
(in the same cadence as USA is chanted) Pile of shame! Pile of shame! Pile of shame! 😂
been doing the hobby for two years couldnt find a faction i liked watched this and loved the black templers for the impurium!!!!
Awesome stuff! I hope you enjoy going on your crusades purging in the name of the emperor!
Oh man i can tell u spent a lot of time on this. Sick for a second video on a channel. 🎉
This has helped me tremendously so far. Appreciative of all the work you put into this.
You’re more than welcome - hope you’ve managed to find the army for you!
@@TheCommandPhase Blood Angel's seem to be neat. I just can't imagine myself painting these little guys because I have shakey hands :(.
@@TheCommandPhase I'll give that a whirl, thanks for the advice!
So far I’m interested in:
Sisters: Space nuns with Space guns!
@@TheCommandPhase thank you I really look forward to to start playing again I think I gonna go to my local store and get my frist combat portal
Dropping a comment to say thank you and choosing Mortarion and the death guard as my army. I’m in for a expensive hobby lol
But what a model to have at the centrepiece of your army! I’d definitely take a look on eBay or Facebook marketplace to see if there any new on sprue models around from the 7th edition starter sets. There may be some around to help make it a bit cheaper 👍
Thank you for commenting and you’re more than welcome, glad you found the video helpful 🙂
@@TheCommandPhase took your advice and picked up a Mortarion on marketplace and I couldn’t be happier. Will post a picture of my first attempt at painting him sometime! :)
Look forward to seeing it!
I really like that for a way you’ve chosen your army, thank you for sharing!
Amen and God bless brother
Here’s the thing. The BT are bad guys. You’re missing the point.
@@Bobby3OOO literally everyone in warhammer is "the bad guy". Stupid point
@@ElijahKlar Am I? Or is Op?
Cheers for the tips - went for Tyranids in the end. Definitely gonna get that Christmas box look great!

@@TheCommandPhaseUm.... Where are the Ultramarines....???
Or even the Black Legion, for that matter???
@@TheCommandPhase Oh, ok. I look forward to that, actually. :)
Thanks for your reply.
I just started looking into this hobby, I was hoping for information on Iron Hands and Ultramarines. It seems your video left them out
On the plus side, Astra Militarum looks like I could be a terror with them!
New to 40k and this has helped massively, although now i want them all...
Haha - welcome to the club 😉
Awesome video. Thank you for it. Now I have a good starting point to go off of. but the choice will be tough because so many of these armies look dope.
There are a lot of incredible armies and awesome minis to choose from - best of luck finding the one that sticks out the most!
Not sure if/when it’ll be reaching other countries, but as both were in the starter boxes for the edition the secondary market (like eBay) should have kits from it at a heavy price reduction too compared to buying directly from GW or an online store (which is typically 10-20% off)
Death guard were the starter faction a couple editions ago so there might still be some bargains around.
How does this guy have 2.67k subs? The graphics alone on these vids are insane quality.
You are correct, the black rage started afterwards and the red thirst was the “defect” in the blood angels genetic code which they always had.
Wow super helpful.
Very good work.
Thank you.
You’re more than welcome, glad you found it useful and thank you for the kind words!
Ended up ordering two squads (sorry, I don’t know the actual names) of Death Guard minis because I really enjoy Nurgle’s Warriors of Chaos in Total War: Warhammer III. Adeptus Mechanicus also looks very cool though!
Awesome! Hope you have a fantastic time putting them together and painting them up. I'm guessing plague marines or possibly blightlord terminators?
@@TheCommandPhase Nailed it. Bought both. My girlfriend is interested in painting them with me so I wanted to start small and not overwhelm either of us with a million Poxwalkers lmao.
Definitely a wise choice! Have a great time painting them up together 👍
I picked necrons because I like how they’re really good at not giving a fuck
I'm a sucker for chitin, claws and jaws. Tyranids, Death Guard, Chaos Demons or Necrons for me.
Awesome factions right there!
I hope you have a great time collecting them!
a very needed video on youtube! thank u!
You're so welcome, glad you enjoyed and found it helpful!
I'm torn between Necrons and Chaos Space Marines. I love the lore and aesthetic of the Necrons, but I also want something that I'd enjoy painting.
I like to play orks. Chill and brutal at the same time and I love close fast phase combat. 😅
Great Choice 👍 They are an awesome faction, I do love my orks!
I chose space marines due to the variety of chapters designs and lore.
It's a really good option - is there a chapter in particular that you like the most?
When you love Slanesh and their Drhukari (fuq your fantasy spelling!) but they are just NOT your play style: guess the hobee will just have to be twice as expensive.
You are a vile, wicked person
Tyranids are going to be my first faction simply because they look and act like my favorite tribe slivers in mtg with the hivemind thing.
Awesome - loved playing slivers in mtg, they got out of control very quickly!
1. Tyranids
2. Aeldari
3. Ultra Marines
That’s my most interested in play by order, and a big part of it is simply StarCraft. 😆
I only want 1,000 pts for last 2, I’m not stopping with the Nids until I can play 3,000 pts.

Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it!
Picked 3 factions I was interested before watching.
Apparently all 3 are slow, tanky, close ranged factions. Custodes, Death Guard, and Necrons. Still have no idea what to go with.
Whichever you think the models are the coolest/most exciting!
Thank you! You helped me narrow it down to 3. 😅
Well at least I've been of some help! 😂
Which three are you thinking about?
@@TheCommandPhase 1000 Suns, Tyranid or Death Watch. 👍
@@TheCommandPhase also thanks for you support, it definitely gives me more confidence!
Lore wise the Grey Knights are my favorite. But it doesn't seem like they're very "viable" in the grand scheme
They are in a great place at the moment on the tabletop and one of the cheaper armies currently to collect! so I certainly wouldn’t rule them out if you like their lore and models.
I've got four armies the Drukhari are my first love. The other three are a Chaos Space Marines, space Marines and Tyranids for the last of my 4 armies
That’s a great set of factions you have at your disposal - Which is your favourite currently in 10th edition?
I picked necrons cause I could get 11 units for free lol, still like them, though, so it's working out, but my end goal is to make a death guard army
Both great armies with a very different aesthetic and painting challenges! I'm glad you're enjoying your faction as that's the main thing :)
@TheCommandPhase thanks man, lots to get into but your channels has appeared as a help and I'll happily give a sub
Thank you! Hope you enjoy your hobby journey 😀

Anyhow, you got a new subscriber with me, keep up the great work!
@@TheCommandPhase thanks, for replying so fast, that's great advice!😃 gonna look out for these juicy deals🤩
very new got into the tabletop thanks to space marine 2 ! definitely wanna build a Ravenguard army, any tips or recs to help out?
I decided to start collecting Wolfspear - I liked the hunter idea and because in the lore these were the anti-authoritarian introvert Space Wolves instead of the loud extroverts. although not much has been written about the few-years-old Wolfspear..
Damn now I can’t decide between the tau ,space wolves, thousand sons or the legion of votann 😢😂
Which of those do you think has the coolest model range?
yes this is helped me ! but... I don't know what to choose because "this army is good at shooting and melee range" is the thing we listen for list most of the armies and so it doesnt help to choose any army too..
I'll wait for Henry Cavill's WH 40k Film hope it will be a hit
Maybe a few hobby store will pop up in my country and I'll get me self a black templar box haha
Btw you got a new sub👍
To be fair as long as they do a better job than the Warcraft movie, I'm sure Warhammer will get a pretty good popularity boost when it does release. I'm looking forward to seeing what it ends up being. I do hope some more stores do pop up for you and nice choice with the black templars! Really cool faction.
Thank you for commenting and the sub, really appreciate it!
Im considering Black Templars, Grey Knights and a Deathwatch 🤔💪🏾
Those are three great choices and some pretty iconic looking armies. Which do you like the look of the most?
@@TheCommandPhase I think Grey Knights they r awesome and I love their lore and ofc Castellan Crowe ❤️💪🏾
I eventually wanna do some crossovers / proxies as well
Blood Angels, Thousand-sons, and death watch
If you wanted the best of both worlds you can ally in Tzeentch demons into a thousand sons list.
@@TheCommandPhase Yeah I think that will ultimately be my plan I just don't know where to start.
