I love to have a "Suikoden-like" Game again and i dont need a Suikoden Story, where every Minute something bad happends. I love Lian, she makes me Laugh all the Time 😂

@@kali-qgames1301 As a huge Suikoden I and II fan, I KNOW I'm gonna lose myself in the characters and narrative here. Even if it's not Suikoden II, even a comparison to the story of the first game gets me hyped!
I haven't heard any other reviews talk about the character attendence system, so good job on including that! I'll be playing tonight, very excited for it!
Awesome! Im glad that detail stood out to you. Honestly its one of my favorite little things that Eiyuden offers. I usually dislike JRPGs that force me to use character for a specific time. So this is a welcomed addition :)
Man, I know exactly what you mean on that scene with the music. Even the timing hit perfect - waiting until that first "Break" to really kick in. It gave me chills and was hard to not tear up while going through the rest of that sequence.
Thank you for the honest review, I haven't played through all of it yet but my brother is further ahead and I also had a few issues.
The game is definitely a love letter to Suikoden fans, Most of the characters are callbacks/similar to past games
I'll come back and give my full thoughts after i finish but one thing we talked about so far was the character balancing.
If there was one thing i could improve on in Suikoden 2, it was expanding the rune system and allowing more characters to be viable,
of course the game itself isn't too hard and you can always pick your favorite party members but it would have been cool to be able to have more customization.
In Suikoden 2, some characters are just way stronger because they have 3 rune slots or their stats are super high, but at the same time you have a lot of cool looking characters
that kinda get shafted. I was hoping that Eiyuden could improve on this somehow, maybe make it more randomized or have more unique synergies/actions for certain characters.
Hopefully they listen to feedback and if they make a sequel, they can improve on these things....Also i wish fishing was a little more in depth lol, give me a bar to go back and forth with the fish!

Ah, I really hope it goes well. I've been hearing some not so stellar things about the switch Verizon unfortunately. I wonder how the port got bitched so badly :( I hope there will be a patch
Nice review, Pretty much nailed most of the issues. Another nitpick was unable to see what runes do on the equipment/rune page in the party menu. The only way to see what it does is it already has to be attached or at a Runeshop. The story is top-notch but has some goofy moments. There are some parts I felt slightly rushed (very few parts). War Battles are way better than Suikoden series and a step up. I can see it getting better in time as the series progresses. The sound is 100% we both discussed this in DC, totally agree lol. Music is awesome but a little repetive. You score I can see why you gave it that. I went 8/10 on it *dont hit me* HAHA. I think the series will get better over time. and I hope I'm here for it. I do believe this is Suikoden 3.5
My only gripes thus far are some QOL and polish issues. For war battles, I really just want an enhanced Suikoden 3 version. It made having multiple high level characters feel relevant.
Cant wait until I can play this! Havent been this excited since Another Eden!

This is a solid and well crafted review. I feel like once i play it ill be in the same boat as you. I love Suikoden 1 & 2 and i still play those games to this very day. I'm so excited to play this game. My thought on the issues it has, no game ever is perfect, not a single gams has been perfect, so my thoughts on the issues with the game I'll reserve for when i do play it.
this game is designed for people who played the older games way back in the 1990's as it tries to copy that design..

Epic and fair review! This definitely looks to be for Suikoden fans, and that's okay! It was made with a specific audience in mind and as long as those people are happy, then it's a WIN! Looks like a love letter to the 90s JRPGs!

Beautiful, Beautiful and BEAUTIFUL Review, brother! I'm glad that this game really lived up to your expectations, and it being a high note to honour Murayama's passing and legacy, being the spiritual Suikoden 6. Everything from this game looks so appealing, from the visuals, the gameplay, the music, the characters and even some of the light-hearted bits and diverse races which honestly, is a plus in my book!
I hope this game is successful enough to officially have more games like this, especially with a potential planned sequel, and also hoping on those Suikoden Remasters to drop soon, Konami? You listening, haha. Alas, Overall what a wonderful review

The one game above all others that deserves, no. NEEDS a remaster. Or really a remake Since it wasn't properly finished the first time.
But it's also the one game that it will never happen for.
Agreed they made the UI very odd in certain things. Where I even feel like classic S2 UI/UX was better. Which really surprised me, and there is some navigation around menu for characters that makes me want to be Karen and say where is you UX and shame them some.
I cannot wait to start. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to back at the time. I wanted to preorder, but that option wasn't available on Switch (where I played Rising). So I have to wait until tomorrow at 10:00 am.
I started playing yesterday, haven't got to far yet but been enjoying it a lot.
It does have some flaws tho they are minor, and to me it feels like a throw back to older style JRPGs
which is a great thing.
I truly hope Rabbit and Bear take fan feed back if they will do a Eiyuden Chronicle Hundred Heroes 2

I agreed with you with the battle pacing. I miss the characters attacking simultaneously when they attack different enemies. Am glad someone else is talking about it. I do wish it was like before and that they attack a little faster after each other. Never the less am impressed with the visuals, the feeling of the game, the colors, the voices and the music. The Suikoden DNA is in for for sure. A 10/10 for me anyways.
That's exactly how I feel, it's quite unfortunate. I feel like if the battle had that pace, it would have resonated with alot of folks a tad more. All in all though, this game feels cozy. I don't know why but I'm still happy. An Eiyuden sequel would be fire if they fixed these small issues
@@kali-qgames1301 you think that the reason of this battle pace is because of the switch performance issues. Is the only reason I can think of why they will make it like that if so many developers from older Suikoden where working on this tittle.
Quality of life issue and weird things and such:
No music while fishing, the fact that I cannot look at every item in the world like I used to, the fact that I cannot easily see what the lenses do and many more small things. LIke the Dappled Forest. I still do not understand when I can progress there.
But the fact that I can put essential characters in a separate slot instead of being forced to use them in battles and the way the quick travel works is sooo good.
By the way, I cannot wait to learn about everyone's favorite characters later on. I only have about 80 so far, but there are many standouts. Lam is my number 1 right now, but Barnard is very cool, too. Falward is awesome as well.

Lmao..ngl. i actually loved Suikoden's HQ building. Where if i recruit peope, i just get surprised what happened to my HQ. 😂😂 I remember enjoying always getting a surprise when i try to get somewhere and it keeps going. But I can't wait to try the new HQ building system here too
Short of a few QoL features, but overall, FAR from a game devoid of passion or effort. Normally I hate it when people use the word "nitpicks" in reviews, but a lot of these are nitpicks. Nice review Kali-Q, concise, unbiased, & to the point.

This game is definitely full of passion, I have no doubt in my mind a sequel that takes care of these issues would make Eiyuden a serious contender to all JRPGs. It has the formula to be even better!

You could tell they didn’t grasp what the game was, yours was the first review where I felt like you actually cared enough to play the game for what it is supposed to be. The quality of life stuff doesnt bother me at all, my favorite game is Vagrant Story. A big part of the appeal for this game for me is the nostalgia, which includes all the little frustrations those older games have.
I started Eiyudan Chronicles Rising yesterday and im 9 hours in. Its alright, nothing special imo. I was hoping there would be more lore and world building leading into Hundred Heroes but it seems to be mostly self contained sidequests.
But im 100% excited for this game on Tuesday. Recent retro RPGs like Sea of Stars and Chained Echoes have been some of the best games made in recent years imo.
I truly love this response. It how I feel too. I just know modern audiences will definitely get the game over this. But im loving it regardless of its flaws. Appreciate you watching and yes Rising is okay, but Hundred Heroes is where its at. Hope to hear how you like it soon!

Characters actually look cool and not too chibi so i might try this one. Hopefully works with UEVR since it was made with UE4
Yeah that's one things no matter what reviewers say. Eiyuden has some beautiful sprites. I get tired of the chibi 2d thing all the time. So Eiyuden sprites all day!
In early acess glad i got the deluxe very mucn worth it and would do it again.

Got a question my suiko homies: do you think once this is fully released, they Konami will finally reveal when suikoden 1 and 2 remaster will be released to counter this?
As I see it, there are only two possibilities. They're waiting for the full release of this game, as you said. So they can try to leapfrog it. They already did this when they originally announced them. So of course they'll try to do it again.
The other possibility is that something has gone wrong and the next thing we'll hear is about a delay, and they're procrastinating. Considering pretty much every single game delayed these days, and most developers have adopted a "Don't tell the community shit" approach, this is just as strong a possibility.
Maybe they forgot about the remaster

Luckywise i bougth for PS4 and Xbox Series S the Digital deluxe Edition. On Xbox Series i cant open the Soundtrack and Artbock. Does anybody know how? And on PS4 there arent the Wallpapers from Kawano😢
But i played 6 Hours so far and had much Fun with the Xbox Series Version..PS4 Version hasnt the brigth Colors and longer Loadingscreens...Switch Version must be a Hell of Waiting😅

After playing for almost a week, this is the perfect comfort food game. Some times I want to try new and different dishes. Other times I want that dinner my mom made 35 years ago, and dont you dare try to "improve" it.
There's a reason Dragon Quest is my favorite series.

Two things I am disappointed in: The war battles and the cooking game sadly
Two things I am positively surprised by: The depth of the lens system and the card mini game
Overall I love the game a lot. It is on course to be top three of Suikoden games (counting it for obvious reasons), but I can understand the meta critic score of about 80 (78 last time I checked).
Never played any of the Suidoken games before but I too don't love the war battles. Feels like they throw you into them without explaining the rules / advantages and disadvantages of advancing, staying put, etc.

The story is nice and emotional but sometimes sweet baby Inc shows it's rotten teath and it makes me want to vomit. Other than that it feels pretty cozy

A JRPG that finally has wars, kingdoms and magic with POC characters in a somewhat serious setting unlike the too comical and light-hearted Fire Emblem: Engage. We need more JRPGs like this and Suikoden 2, 3.

@@kali-qgames1301 the English script. It sounds like TikTok zoomers having a meme-off. It's peppered with absurd, unfunny jokes, and idioms that aren't appropriate for the setting. I just can't take it seriously. At one point, and I'm not joking, I actually found myself taking off my glasses and massaging the bridge of my nose with my thumb and index finger going *ughhhhhh*, or saying "Oh my god he really just say that?"
Obviously I could only play so much and still be able to get a refund, so maybe it improves later or something, but I don't know. I just can't in good conscience reward this developer for giving it to a localizer who produced this juvenile and hackneyed script.
Was pretty crushed to do it. Suikoden 2 has been my favorite game of all time since it released, and I was looking forward to this game more than anything else in the past decade and a half. Maybe if there's ever a proper English patch, I'll give it another shot.

aiiish the story is disappointing is it? i dont really like the first suikoden's story as well, and the character designs kinda disappointing also, i still remember memorable cool characters like pesmerga, or that duo that i forgot their name lol, viktor and the blue bandana guy
Haha Filk and Victor are a classic duo! But yeah, it isn't as 'heavy' or 'serious' still decent in its own right. But it has that issue of the modern jrpg scene when it comes to story. Just a little soften to meet standards.
Whereas Suikoden had a very hard hitting conflicting story. This one isn't bad, just isn't as heavy.
9/10? I mean, this game has to be nearly perfect, right? What I hear is that this game has shortcomings in technical aspects and some quality of life features. Switch version got 54% on Metacritic...
I reviewed the Steam version. And yes, there are a few shortcomings and odd QoL decisions. It was made for Suikoden fans, and that's exactly what we got. For better and worse
But the game is absolutely stacked for me, likeable characters, over 100 hours worth of content, minigames, good battle systems, great dungeon design, great music, serviceable story, plenty of towns, building HQ, heart, charm and replayability. Has new game plus, etc.
It actually is more complete than most modern games you pay $60 for. Even if it has dated design choices, it doesn't automatically make it a bad game.
my biggest concern is that this game will copy suikoden2 word for word,bar for bar. I mean the story already seems similar to the letter, especially the fight between the 2 main protagonists. I was hoping they use suikoden 2 for their base and make some battle improvements to make combat more interesting and not just bland hit attack button.
I fully expect mass layoffs at epi games right now as their CEO is screaming and throwing things "HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN" as eiyuden chronicles single handily causes fortnite to shutdown as trillions of gamers world wide flock to the game of the millenium.
Yooo SERIOUS question... Do I play this game in English audio or Japanese audio?? I think Japanese would just be perfect for this game but I dont mind English sometimes... Is it good tho? Which one is better?
Honestly you can't go wrong with either. I have personally been playing in English. I'm not too bothered by the dub, it works good for me. But give both a try and see how ya liking each ;)
Japanese audio won't match the English subs though in length/content etc.
They added/made up some stuff for the English translation, so best to stick with the English dubs if you playing in English else there might be a strong feel of mismatch where the Japanese dialogue is far shorter than the English text, though some of the female voices really sound irritating sometimes.
I think I'm gunna stick with Japanese... It's how I watch my anime shows and this just feels right with it 😂 I'll do another play through in English after
