What kind of monster benches virginia when you get maiden's hammer and retaliation earrings in soldraga? Watching her swat fliers and scouts that attack her all through true zenorian is funny.
Are you running her shield block/heal setup with this, or going all in on the counter? I took a break from the game for DD2 and am just getting to the third country and about to get her turn 1 block buff. I’m wondering if the new patch changes + her start of battle skill may help her outgrow needing the self heal. Going to test it for sure.
@@jayellgee PP generally committed to maiden's hammer. I let iron veil go active if there are no other start-of-battle skills worth using in her unit. I haven't needed the extra defense and guard through elheim. Will have to see if bastorias would change my mind. As far as healing goes, I'd rather have someone with quick heal in the backrow do it. Doesn't have to be a cleric, but a debuff cleanse is nice, so elven archers with scarlett's ribbon/monks mitre is nice too since guard seals, stuns, and blinds are no fun with the added frost arrow later. Giving refresh/quick cure priority over quick heal (at least for blinds, and stuns specifically) will take the debuff off before maiden's hammer triggers right on time to maim the guy who applied it. I'll have to see how much I like brandish + that other attack buff she gets later eventually. I let her keep the blue rose shield (turn off royal guard), azure crest shield, and the kingsblade for 4pp and damage. Alternatively, you could use one of those two shields, with a shield that gives immunity to things like guard seal/stun, and use a PP increasing sword like dragonbone, or much later, wingcrest. With the earrings and kingsblade, maiden's hammer hits low defense-high initiative targets like rogues and swordfighters for ~80 damage from elheim onward that cannot be dodged. Fliers can't dodge it either on top of her vertical edge. She becomes a hard counter for most wyvern rider units you run into through drakenhold even on true zenorian.

Valkyria's buff isn't that big of a deal because that class was already the best tank to begin with, lol. virginia didn't need a buff, but i can see why they did it
Honestly, I just think they still benefit from having phantom shields better, since you don't need more guard rates when their start of battle skill fills up the other half of their def and guard rates already
@@TitaniumLegman Magic swords always gave the full magic boost even before the patch, it's why they're amazing dodge tanks that can even clean up physical tanks.

Nice! This is a welcome change. After the last video, my swordmaster learned Meteor Slash, which I found incredibly underwhelming for the reasons you mentioned. This should help a *lot*.
I would definitely not use Gryphons as a dodge tank over sword master late game when true strike is so common. Having an effective dodge tank and a sub DPS to target specific units like tanks or thieves is way more useful especially when you can get sword master avoid up to 160+ and the only thing they need is an archer cover. If anything Gryphons are way better backliners with more utility accessories for support or for row clearing.
This is much needed. Both of my true zenioran playthroughs I never used a single sword master because they are so weak they couldn't even one shot most thieves. It's useless to attack a thief with a true strike and do 95% damage if no one else can hit him.
I personally never had much of a problem with the Swordmasters and was happy with their set-up once I got Gilbert. It is nice they got the buff that everyone thought they needed though.
It made me mad that the "Dodge-Tank Buster class" could mostly get rid of frontline thieves, and literally no one else unless you invested HEAVILY in their kit... Meanwhile a Truestrike buffed Gryphon or Wyvern just cooks the entire line with the greatest of ease...
Before hand I just buffed them with magic conferral from a witch just to boost the potency of the attack, it worked pretty well tbh and even did some decent damage to tanks, not saying it was viable but it was useless and probably was the best use for the potency buff given how many hits it does.
I don't know if anyone else has noticed/experienced this but I think they also patched a silly bug with circle heal. Before this update, If the enemy was cleared before the user (Ramona in my case) started charging circle heal, it would just trigger the healing twice in a row for some reason. I just had this scenario happen again post-patch and it's not doing the double circle heal proc so along with the text fixes they've been working on little stuff like that, it's nice.
Messing with it in TZ, swordmaster still seems reliant on a druid or a magic damage weapon in order to meaningfully break thru the front row, so their use is still very heavily restricted relative to sellswords or warriors. Safer to put on the front row than either of those tho, I suppose.
using hybrid sword like spellsteel is much better as 1 mystic conferral buff and keen edge can make your swordmaster crit for 150 dmg against a physical or magical tank
Its a nice needed buff for swordmasters but it still doesnt solve their main issue of not being an AOE unit or bringing something else to the table aside from being an evade tank. The increase in dmg doesnt make them a striker as its not good enough to take down armored since they dont have range. It wouldve been better if they gave swordmasters the full atk.bonus. They will still be used as an evade tank early on and subbed out for better evade tanks later. So it makes them better but doesnt allow them to jump over other evade tanks (and its not like you need alot since having more than 5 squads is plenty).
The only swordmaster that have utilized is paired up with a witch so she can imbue the swordmaster with magic to compensate for the low potency of meteor slash.
Through mirrors, dews and premium items and party support, my Meli could chew through Generals, but now? Now nothing will stand in her way. Also the extra defenses from the second shield for Valkyrie will be nice, there were times when my Virginia was overwhelmed by continuous attacks if faced with druids or breakers, this will help with that. Huh, I didn't mind the old swordmaster. It gave me a reason to put one weapon with a high attack, and one obsolete weapon with a good skill, nice bonus or with a magical attack skill for versatility. I think I'd have prefered a general attack boost.
Meteor Smash still confuses me in how its damage is calculated. I've been trying to crunch numbers to figure out optimal situations for when it does more damage than Keen Edge, and it keeps coming out in a way that doesn't make sense. Either it's dealing more than 20% of their base damage, or I'm seriously missing something here with either my math or how damage is calculated in the game
Okay, I think I actually found out how damage is calculated, and the numbers do make sense. There's still some a bit off, but the calculations are only one digit off instead of the much larger breadth they were at earlier. I *think* the way it works is that you first subtract the defender's DEF from the attacker's ATK, then the game factors in things like the extra 50% damage from Critical Hits (but not bonus to critical damage from items like the Wyvern's Razor), then the game factors in the Attack's Potency, and after that does the game factor in bonus critical damage from Wyvern's Razor/Charged Impetus. So, a Swordmaster with the Viking's War Horn buff who crits on all of his Meteor Slash attacks *should* be dealing somewhere in the range of 85% more damage than if they used Keen Edge
