  • Adding an awning to our trailer was an important upgrade for us. We decided to add this Zip Dee Awning because of the retro design and also because it is American Made. Check out their install video here: • Zip Dee Window Awning ...

Thanks for this video! I have been looking forever for an awning for our Vintage Camper. Can you explain what you did for extra support “backer board”? Did you do something on the inside too or just outside. Thanks:)

The backer board is on the inside at the bottom arm attachment. Basically I added a large 3/4" piece of plywood. As I attached the board, it would drill through the wall, then into the plywood. The plywood would squeeze the wall and not let the screws rip out of the wall. Easy process over all.

How much room did you have from room to door?

Hi there, I'm considering getting one of these same awnings. I have a very similar trailer (1978 Wilderness). My biggest concern is finding a place to screw the support bars into. How did you add the backer board behind the exterior walls? Did you have to cut into the walls from the inside?

No I did not have to cut into the wall. The lower arms I was able to use the back boards into the cabinet areas. The backboard basically sandwiches the wall between the backer board and arm hardware. Very simple process
