I watched a number of videos on replacing awnings showing various means and methods. I keep coming back to your video and will be following your example when I change my 16 foot awning out in a few days. Was by far the best instructions and most enjoyable to view. Enjoyed the scenery as well.
That makes me very happy! Thanks.
Just wanted to let you know that your video is helping people way after you posted it. Just replaced my awning today using your video as a great reference. Thank you!
Glad it helped!
Anyone else notice the drill bit breaking? 😂 Great video!
Yup!
For me it was the double count on winding the spring back up. I think between 11 and 12?!? Funny little detail, but great video! I’m doing mine this week and you’ve helped me troubleshoot some obvious headaches before I start. Thanks for a great video!!
I NEVER drill metal (rivets) without safety glasses. Bits are brittle and you don't want that in your eye.
Hey thanks mate I’m not going to comment on your counting or drilling skills we are after all human 😅 awesome handy video cheers very much👍😎
Lol, I did too. It was the acting like nothing happened for me
Great video. I helped my son replace his 20ft awning and this video made it so much easier especially when you have the correct tools.
Glad it helped!
Im waiting for a cooler day to do mine.
Very thorough/detailed explanation without rambling.👍🏻
Very helpful video. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome video my wife and I replaced the awning together. Following your video step by step. easy to follow clean and clear . Thank you . Not everything on u tube works this well.
Glad it helped!
Little Shop Of Horrors quote was the best part of the entire video
Ha! Thanks!
Thank you for this! Saved over $350 doing this ourselves. Your video gave us the courage to go for it!
Glad I could help!
I personally found this video extremely helpful. Thank you. We used this video as a reference for changing our awning, and it was invaluable. We had no idea where to begin. Our awning replacement didn't come with instructions!! Nothing. Just the components. Again, thanks for the help.
Glad it was helpful!
My wife and I (seniors) followed your instructions and had perfect success. The first time I might add. It was a hot day so a couple breaks were needed. It took us 3 hrs with breaks. Only difference, I took both R & L spring assemblies out to lubricant. I noticed a little surface rust. My let’s me sleep inside again. Ps. There was satisfaction in cutting it off.
Awesome!
I really appreciated this! I just finished replacing my awning and this video was a great help! Thanks!
Awesome!
We replaced our awning today thanks to this great video! Thank you so much for the guidance!
Glad it helped!
Did you snap the drill bit off too?
One thing that wasn’t mentioned. How did you know were to start your valance? Is the awning fabric marked? Or do you just start it where you choose?
Thank you so much for making this video! I’m certain I saved hundreds of dollars installing mine myself. This was a very good step by step how-to and I followed almost all of it by memory. I forgot the lubricant and remembered afterwards 😅
Thank you again!
You are so welcome!
Best DYI videos, very detailed thank you so much on throughly explaining each step. Very helpful and informative. God bless you
Glad it was helpful!
Watched a few tutorials and found yours looked the best. Replaced our awning today with no issues thanks to your video. Great job! 👍
Glad it helped!
Your video was great. I just changed my awning material out by myself with small exception of my gf helping slide the new fabric in the roller. Thank you!
Glad it helped!
Getting ready to start replacing my awning and found this guy which makes the job look super easy
Good luck!
Great job! Gonna tackle this myself! Thanks for posting this.
You can do it!
Tip to prevent or greatly delay the rolled-up awning from prematurely tearing up: It usually deteriorates from Sun / UV damage. The Sun is a tough weapon. Get any water based latex paint and when the awning is rolled up against the RV, paint that area of it that is exposed to the Sun. Give it a couple of thin coats. White or a light color is better. Will probably have to do this every year or two to keep it from deteriorating prematurely. Doing something like 303 spray has to be done every 60 days, and still isn't as tough as the thicker latex paint sunblock.
Great tip!
What a super job ! Doing mine today after work
Have fun!
You did awesome on this video. Will be looking to you for more videos. Keep up the great work. Thank you.
Thank you so much!
Great video. With these instructions I was able to replace the awning on my 2012 Jayco Jay Flight Swift 154rb in about 2 hours.
Great!
Good morning to you Tim!!! Thanks for having a video on out for us all in You tube land !!! I think I am either going to write another book or just keep on going on live streams for myself !!! I love to do awnings !!! Done those a lot in the past few 6 months to help some people on out !!! Take care of yourselves down there !!!
Keep it up! Thx
This is on my to-do list for our camper before we take it to the camp ground at the end of May. Thanks for the clear and detailed walk through.
My pleasure!
Get the new awning fabric out and opened in the sun. Plus mine had the 2 bottom splines installed. They suck!!
Exactly how a how to video should be, informative and easy to follow with none of the extra unnecessary playing to camera stupidity a lot of videos have
Thanks so much!
Super clear instruction. Show how clear and organized he is in his head. Good job
Thank you very much!
Thank you for showing me how to do by myself everyone else had helpers you're the only one who tackled alone
My pleasure!
Actually, it looks like to me his son "volunteered" to help Dad.
Thanks a lot the explanation are perfect. Damn i wish is was built for easier replacement, thx again

That was an awesome tutorial my friend! I have an RV and always wondered if I had to replace the awning if I could do it! Now I have full confidence that I can!

Thanks bud! I was able to get er done with my wife, following your process as described. It's very tough to do first time without guidance.
Glad I could help!
Enjoyed this Tim. Our poor old awning is going to have to have the complete setup. Nick misjudged a tree limb.😬 You made that look so easy . Great job TIM. 👍
Ouch! Thanks!
Thank you
You're welcome!
Thank you. Your video was very helpful. I did choose not to use the pull chord of this kit, it's not very good quality and the old one was in great shape.
Glad it was helpful!
Nice video and nice camper. It definitely helps if you can get an extra helper. I didnt have that option so i just replaced mine by myself. I skipped the disassembly and removal of the springs. It wasnt bad at all. I made a short video of it.
Nice!
Fantastic video. Many thanks!
Welcome!

Very useful video, step by step. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for the details and tool details. Excellent video.
Glad it was helpful!
Good job Tim and Morgan!
Thanks
He never showed reattaching the bracket to the RV. The one with the 3/8" screws. No big deal, I figured it out. Otherwise, Awesome ! I also noticed the drill bit break and the wrong count on the wind up, but still the easiest method so far. Also, I'm thinking the " Food Grade " silicone spray might dry up into a gooey mess. I think the regular silicone spray might be better. Not sure, but just a thought. Great job !!!
HAHA! Good catch. Thanks.
Awesome job
Thanks!
Nice video and informative, OH and nice zero reaction to the broken drill bit hahaha.
HAHA! Thanks!
Very good video. Thanks
Glad you liked it!
That was cool there’s some good looking awnings on a rc trailer at the local dump I want to take it and use it for my deck thanks

You bet!
This is advanced work....no go.
Wasn’t too bad but not a quick job.
🤯 it works!
Yay!
Excellent video!!!!!
Thank you very much!
I have no hole in my left side cap to hold that side from rolling up. Should it be fine to no do that?
Sweet deal!
Liked it!
Thanks 👍
Use reverse to pull the bit out without breaking the bit.
Thanks!
Good Morning Tim ❤️
Good Morning!
I was thinking "he's going to break that drill bit with all that tweaking" and voila it happened.
HAHA! Yup!
Hey thanks
My Pleasure!
Good morning Tim. We have never had to replace ours, thank goodness. You did a great job explaining step by step. If we ever do, we will come back to watch your video again. The new awning is very nice. Have a great day
Thanks and good luck!
Very good video
Thanks!
Great job, the new awning looks perfect 👊💥... I giggled everytime you said "vale"ance instead of valance 🤭😂... Have a great day ❤️
HA! My son said the same thing about how I was pronouncing it while making the video. Hey! I'm a character. What can I say!
@@RidgeLife 🤣🤣
The rivet gun pulls the pin til the ball is inside the sleeve and cuts the pin.
Cool thanks!
Watched many videos this by far the best one. Some small differences between the awning we bought but this video gave us the confidence to tackle ourselves. Thanks so much for sharing your experience.
Glad it was helpful!
Very nice. Great detail! Curious though, why not replace the rivets with an appropriately sized stainless self tapping sheet metal screw?
I’ve seen people do it but there is the risk of it working out since it moves so much.
Well, we did get it on but if you want to maintain your marriage just take it to the RV shop. Cheaper than counseling 😂
HAHA! True.
@@RidgeLife I would add a photo if I could figure it out
I was like oh no hes gonna snap that drill bit. Then after the last rivet you clearly snapped it lol
I sure did! Ha!
I have to replace my TPO top and that includes removing all the outer trims and the fabric away from the edge. From looking at this I will need to remove and let the whole awning rest down on something too or slide the top of it out?Any other videos or information on how to remove the canopy so I can replace the TPO.Thanks
I did for this unit but have seen some do it up with more people.
Any advice on how to secure the other end with end caps that don’t have the hole applied?
Hmm. Sorry. Maybe lock it with pliers?
Hey this is great. I’m dealing with an awning that got ripped off. My only problem is before I watched this is I didn’t know to stick a screwdriver on one end. And then I hit the retract button and it made that crazy wind up
sound. Can I still follow your video steps or do I need to take it in and have someone unwind it before then I start your process? Thanks!
You may have to do both ends but I’d try on first.
Nice movie reference
Thx!
I think I’ll start saying “vale-ance” your way from now on. I like it better than Val (like Valium), -ance.
Haha! Thanks.
Is it necessary to pin the other end with a screw driver since you aren’t removing it from the mount? I only ask because my screw driver fell out half way through the project and I just continued as normal and it all seemed to work out. Not sure if I lost spring tension on that end or not but either way it’s working.
It is what holds the bar for the spring so without it, it seems it should go to zero spring tension. If it works, good deal!
I feel like these awnings get in the way more than help. Rails on side and nose towards the ground
They are nice on a sunny afternoon for sure!
Awsome Job. you remind of red green. LOL. maybe the voice
Ha! I remember him.
