Spray Vinegar on your garden and be amazed what happens.
5. Kills weeds
An excellent natural herbicide, normal white vinegar can be used to control unruly plants in your garden. Acetic acid in vinegar dries weeds out and kills them easily and effectively. Apply the vinegar should be done with a spray bottle that is full of white vinegar and 2 teaspoons of dish soap to help it stick to the leaves. Ideally spray the vinegar during a hot sunny day in the morning to amplify the drying power of the vinegar on the weeds. Spray the leaves as well as the roots for maximum effect. If it rains you’ll likely have to reapply the spray. If normal white vinegar doesn’t work you can pick up some stronger horticulture vinegar which we’ll link below that’ll need to be diluted down to 3 parts water to 1 part vinegar.
4. Deter Pests and Animals
Most creatures insect or furry don’t like the smell of vinegar and will stay away at all costs. Rodents, raccoons, deer, cats, moles, skunks, and rabbits will all steer clear of your property simply soaking some old clothes or rags in vinegar and placing them around your property. Vinegar can be sprayed to stop the building of an ant hill or to deter bugs fruit flies and snails.
3. Removes Rust From Garden Tools
Do you have old rusty tools that you wish were shiny and new again? Vinegar is an effective cleaning tool on rusty, spray your tools with a healthy amount of vinegar then wrap it with paper towel and a plastic bag. Repeat this step for each tool that is rusty then let the vinegar sit on the tools for a full day. The next day you want to scrub the tools with a brush and baking soda neutralize the acidity then wash clean. Just like that your garden tools are new again.
2. Fungus and Mold Removal
Heavily shaded plants may develop fungus or mold spraying these plants with vinegar will help remove that mold and vinegar. This same technique works to remove mold in your house as well.
1. Acidify the Soil
Plants that thrive with more acidic soil will benefit from being sprayed with vinegar. Begonias, gardenias, blue hydrangea, holly, azalea, bleeding heart, blueberries and pine trees. First off you’ll want to test your soil’s acidity which can be actually done with a tester we’ve linked below.
If your soil needs more acidity then add 2 tablespoons of vinegar to 1 gallon or 3.8 liters of water. Water your plants thoroughly then check the ph daily to see where it’s at. If you are so inclined you can monitor and change the ph per plant for the ideal growing conditions.

I'm from Australia and I loved your video with it's no nonsense waffling on and good humour. I'm never without vinegar and it's amazing uses inside and outside my home. For jobs like the bricks, edges and pavers I use a pressure pump sprayer to spray the vinegar ... so much easier on the hands. ..justsayingmate
That remind me of my mom I remember her putting it on the gardenias... Thanks for the memory
That's awesome! I has many invasive trees and poison ivy around my yard. I absolutely hate roundup, but that's what I've been having to use until now. Thank you so much 💖💖💖💖
I have poison ivy in my garden bed. How did you apply it to the leaves or the roots too? Did you use a spray bottle and did you dilute it and by his much. Thanks for the comment.
@@9hank I applied it directly on top of the leaves and the roots. I didn't dilute it because I had sprayed with Roundup and it didn't kill all of it. I just poured it straight from the jug onto the plant. I've read that you can dilute it some and add dishwashing detergent to make it stick to the leaves, but I just went straight full strength. Good luck with yours. Oh, I used 30% vinegar that I got from the local big box home improvement store. They have it in stock, whereas if you try Walmart, you have to order it
You can spend a fortune on the likes of roundup . Im pleased i discovered humble white vinegar .
You can also make a home made pH test from scratch by juicing a red cabbage. The juice has a natural pH sensitive compound that changes color depending on the pH of the substance it is mixed with.
For example red cabbage juice turns purple/blue when mixed with high alkaline soil, and it turns green/yellow with highly acidic soil.
Just take a small ball of soil and mix it with diluted red cabbage juice in a mason jar. Once the dirt settles it will be easy to tell what pH your soil is.
Didnt work for me,, you're a fraud!
Too cool, thank you.
Thanks for that tip also.
Removing rust with vinegar is fine but they won’t necessarily look „brand new“ if the rust has had progressed too much (pittings). Also bear in mind that the molecular surface structure of the iron or steel is weakened after such treatment and is even more inclined to gain new rust. Therefore keep them constantly clean and dry after a vinegar treatment, or apply thorough coatings (grease, machine oil, varnish etc.).
Thanks a lot for sharing .God bless you sir
WOW! I’m a master gardener and I’m trying this today...thanks.
Beware!!! I used vinegar and it made the soil sterile for two years and has killed off our grand 30 yr old piris!!! I’ll never use vinegar on soil again - death everywhere.
@@dvabrannon I’m using it on rocked areas where weeds are beginning to grow. Not using it on soil. Thanks for the heads up tho
@@suemay8120 There's more powerful vinegar spray that is mixed with citric acid and clove oil -- but it really only kills the foliage. However, if you keep spraying the foliage eventually the really tough weeds die off from lack of energy to the roots.
@@rexmonarch2 can I buy this spray or is there a recipe I need to follow? Thanks Gerry
@@suemay8120 There's 30% vinegar product from Amazon named Maxtite 30%. Four gallons for $60.00. Let me see if I can find the one that I have that's a mix of vinegar, citric acid and clove -- it smelled really exotic with the clove oil scent. Or you could pour clove oil and citric acid in the Maxtite and you'd get the same result. I'll get back to you after I rummage around in the garage and find the old box of the spray I used to use.
It won't outright eliminate mature weeds but it will wipe out young weeds on contact.
Thank you! So much! I'll keep using vinegar. Don't want to use commercial weed killer.
I have had long-lasting weed control with 1 part vinegar, 3 parts canola oil. Be careful with it though. Good for treating straw fences and woods as well against weather.
@@Val-ee4hd yeah, I'm a bit worried about salt creating a mineral imbalance issue if overused in the long term and building up. Oil to the best of my knowledge just sticks to everything for a long period and helps deter growth in the area it is applied to.
On a side note, it's a multi-use item for me.
I use it for certain types of weed control, like driveways, road gutter weeds, and also for treating different types of woods and fences, Weatherproofing other materials etc. But be cautious if you do use it, I'm not sure how long it takes to break down and allow growth to occur again.
Thank you.......appreciate you sharing all these tips and knowledge.

A great alternative to mowing your garden lawn is to spray it with a generous serving of scotch whisky. That way, it helps the grass to stay half-cut.

Some of those weeds pop up into your lawn for a reason so it’s not always good to remove them as they’ll go on their own when their job is done, dandelions bring calcium back to the soil which helps plants
I read that just a few months ago. After 30 years, I still have dandelions though and more of them every single year. Do you think I should add some calcium then?
Most people aren't going to use vinegar on weeds where they grow plants, or on their lawn. If you use it on the lawn, you will kill the grass and have huge brown spots. I have cement tiles in my patio area with space between them and it's a royal pain in the butt to have to weed it all the time. I'm not letting them just sit there till they "do their job" because I don't plant anything between the tiles.
I'll try this thank you for sharing have a great day
Vinegar should be checked every 30 minutes if using for rust. It will pit the metal. This is the same for cast iron pans.
I use a vinegar and salt (Morton’s) mixture that I’ve seen on other you tube videos, and it works where I live! It is said that the salt stays in the dirt and makes it inhospitable for new weed growth.
salting the earth makes it barren
I use Allen's Extra Strength Vinegar for dandelions thistles and tiny live tumbleweeds( Russian Thistle)...which are a problem here. I don't dilute it as it's sprayed in crushed stone area of yard.
Something that also helps is for the vinegar to be applied during a sunny day. With the really strong vinegar, it's important to wear gloves, long sleeves and protective eyewear.

Half a cup of white vinegar (clear) is very effective of getting rid of the odour of spilled kerosene on clothes, just add it to the wash.

INCREDIBLY AWESOME INFORMATION > ABOUT VINEGAR. THANK YOU BLESSINGS MASSIVELY HAVE A BEAUTIFUL DAY.
Make sure that if you are using vinegar, specifically the 30%,read the msds.It has a signal word of danger, and vinegar is rated by the epa to be way more toxic then Glyphosate.I'm not advocating to use glyphosate.I'm just using that as a reference.I try to use organics in my orchard, garden and vines, but just because something that seems natural doesn't mean that you should not take the precautions when using.Household vinegar will just cause minor eye irritation, but the more concentrated forms can permanently damage your cornea.

Hello, how are you doing my friend?
Add salt too to make super all natural weed killer !!
Thank you.
Brown malt vinegar also works for most weeds
Farmer and smallholders of old, before harmful company herbicides were pushed hard in marketing, used urine. I once used it along with brown vinegar to kill a tree we had cut down in the small front garden of a just bought house. Drains and foundations were very nearby. I used quite a lot (the urine is best kept in a large bottle and left for a couple of weeks to strengthen. Use an old plastic jug to collect then use an old funnel to pour into a bottle with a screw lid. Obviously don't use the jug and funnel for anything else and wash them in a bowl of water that won't go down your kitchen drain).
DO be careful to not poison the water table beneath the ground. It may take a few weeks, months for a large live stump but it does work. Any odour clears in a day or two and if not using more than you should, it is only faint after it sinks in and the ground on top dries.
As long as you put plenty of water on the area after getting up the root, or leave it through one rainy season, you can grow anything on the area as it will have washed through, diluted so the water table is unharmed.
Farmer did not use vinegar with it. I did as I wanted the job done quite quickly.
Btw, small holders and gardeners of old also used some around the outside of crops like lettuce, or flowers and particular weeds they wanted. Whole fields were too large to do that so they would find other means of getting rid of rabbits and hares (many were happy for local villagers to trap or shoot them for food as long as crops weren't walked on).
Great tips. Thanks 🇨🇦👍
Thanks for sharing very useful
Interesting. Thanks for sharing
For weeds also add salt to the vinegar an soap wash
For changing soil pH, this says to spray the vinegar-water solution then test again. This immediate re-test would seem to be impressive but it only changes the pH of the Water Portion of the soil, NOT the Mineral Portion which is the Cause of the pH level. Stop watering with a vinegar solution and the pH immediately returns to the higher level. It takes TIME to break down the minerals--months & years.
I eat dandelions. Broadleaf plantain are really good for bug bites.
I put vinegar on some ant hills in my driveway. Did nothing

if used for weeds, will it also affect grass?
Works like a charm on a hot day on the weeds. Those weeds are dead in only a few hours using vinegar.
It only burns the top does not kill roots. Try it on a thistle for example.
@@robertdixon6536 Oh, but it will. You just need to give it a second shot or maybe even a third. True I have not tried it on thistle though. You could be right about that.
@@redmapleleaf4617 same with any perennial weed, or even grass will grow back again. Farmers would use it if it was truly effective.
@@robertdixon6536 Well, I don't know. I've had great success with it. I just know it has to be hot out to do it.
@@robertdixon6536 I expect you're right. Maybe I'll try it on the few thistles that came back this spring, and that heinous quackgrass by the fence. It's already 3x the size of any other weed. If that doesnt' work, I think the 3" of road mulch I'm putting down there should help.
If you dilute the stronger vinegar with water, it’s going to be the same strength as regular vinegar

For long rooted weeds amongst crushed stone etc ..sometimes I have to pour vinegar directly on weed to kill those long roots. A 2 inch tumbleweed(Russian thistle) can have a 5 inch root🤨. By the time the weed is 8-10in... you need a saw to cut..can't even pull out of ground.

I like the sound of it for use on stone paths and gravel driveway. I don’t like the idea of constantly using chemical to kill weeds. Long term chemical use could have health risks!
One question buddy.
Does vinegar work to repel snakes?
Thanks, can vinegar be used on fruit plants?
nice
It’s not a selective herbicide, it will burn the leaves on any plants if not used according to manufacturer’s instructions, and manufacturers of white vinegar don’t provide off use instructions. Soap breaks down surface tension so acts as a surfactant. It doesn’t make it stick to the leaves, it stops it from forming droplets that then roll off quickly.
Acetic acid should be treated as such!
Vinegar is not a weed killer. It burns leaves, it doesn’t kill plants!
WOW
Nice sharing

To get rid of weeds in between sidewalks use salt with vinegar and it will kill them for a while
It doesn’t kill the weeds roots and why buy 30% vinegar when I have to dilute it down to 10%
I killed a tibouchina tree from just the tiny bit of errant spray that drifted onto it from when I was spraying weeds. I wouldn't put it anywhere near a plant I wanted to keep.

Can you use apple cider vinegar?
good on carrots and hard boiled eggs. Also, if dogs keep weeing on "your" pavement, wash the area down with bleach or vinegar. They won't come back.
If you use vinegar to spray weeds you should add a couple teaspoons of salt to the solution he mentions in the video it will enhance the drying out power.
Vinegar is like a natural round-up though, meaning it is a non-selective herbicide. It doesn't just work on so-called weeds, it will kill or damage any plants it's spayed on. If you use it to kill weeds in your garden shield the plants you are intentionally growing from the vinegar solution. Also, don't use it to kill weeds in your lawn as it will kill the grass in that spot too. I personally only use it as a vegetation control on paved walk ways and the driveway.
I also use leaves, works amazing
Yes, it works well. Good presentation!👍
