  • Our favourite musicians may often appear to be superhuman beings, whose extraordinary success was predestined. You would imagine in the earlier stages of their careers, their extraordinary potential and budding genius of greats such as Madonna, the Beatles and Lady Gaga was plain for all to see. But surprisingly many music industry professionalsnot only failed to recognise their talent, but also passed up on the opportunity to sign these once-in-a lifetime artists, and in turn missed out their piece of stratospheric success.
    So why exactly were Madonna’s earlier demos turned down? Why were the Beatles rejected for a record deal in favour of sixties band Brian Poole and the Tremeloes? And why was Lady Gaga dropped by her first record label? This mini documentary explores these questions and more.

    People think Madonna was a manufactured act, the truth is she turned up in New York at 19 with a dance scholarship, it took six years of hustle and at times shameless self promotion to become the hottest act on the planet. Nothing was handed to her. It's an amazing story, I hope we get our Biopic 😊

    I remembered my business professor in College here in the Philippines, told me that one of the reasons why she really boomed is because she was a businesswoman went beyond music, she knew how to sell as a brand herself despite that her singing and dancing was pretty much just decent. She perfected the use of over the top looks from Patti Labelle, Diana Ross and Cher and post modernist thinkers like Bowie and Elton John to create the perfect reinvention schemes with a purpose that may depict controversy and push the envelope to sell.

      @jonnyharvey  Рік тому +6

      That’s a good analysis. Yes she’s a very astute businesswoman which she doesn’t like to be known. Remember in ‘Truth or Dare’ she refused to be filmed in her business meetings? She keeps that side of herself very quiet.

      That’s true but I don’t think it’s fair to discredit her singing ability, especially considering how she was born with basically no musical ability, she had to WORK to be able to sing well and write and produce music. There are many videos where her voice sounds fantastic, especially midway through two hour, high choreography productions

    In some cases like the Beatles, it might have been a good thing that they were rejected by the record label at first. This freed them up to later on be signed by powerful labels that could distribute their records better and promote them better and have a better producer and other more qualified people backing them up.

    • @jonnyharvey
      @jonnyharvey  Рік тому +3

      Yes that’s true- it was better on the Beatles’ end. But for the people who turned them down it was a huge failure on their part. Maybe they wouldn’t have experienced the same success, with Decca or met George Martin but they surely would’ve still done well. I suppose we’ll never know.

    • @Kprywatne
      @Kprywatne Рік тому

      This is not really accurate. Parlophone Records was not at all a powerful record label when they signed the Beatles. Parlophone was a small company that made novelty records, comedy records and released some jazz. George Martin was not at all a player in pop music. It was one of the most miraculous things that the beatles ended up there because George Martin fit them like a glove, and though he had been recording weird comedy records up until he met the beatles, he was a classically trained musician with a great ear for pop. Decca was the much more well known label at that point, but quickly became eclipsed by the Martin and the Beatles.

    Everybody watch Marry The Night. Gaga was inhumanely betrayed by a producer that worked for L.A Reid. She fell pregnant through a nonconsensual experience, she was threatened with her work to be “burned”. Dropped is more than a deeply understating euphemism for what she endured. I am so glad that she found freedom from that label; albeit_’ , and strived to continue to become a heroic idol for the people of the world.
