In the late seventies Tina Turner’s career did not look promising. As a middle - aged woman in the music industry, trying to re-launch herself after leaving her husband, her prospects did not look good. But somehow or another, Tina silenced all the naysayers by pulling off one of the greatest comebacks in music history and going on to have a huge era with ‘Private Dancer’.
So just how did Tina defy the odds and rebuild her career? Why did Tina not want to record her signature song ‘What’s Love Got to do with it?’ Who were the other music artists who rejected the track? Why did her record label want to let her go before she released ‘Private Dancer?’ And how did David Bowie, Rod Stewart and the Rolling Stones, help her get back on track? This mini-documentary explores these questions and more.

She was so fearless and resilient. i love watching her concert tours videos cuz no one could fill out an entire stadium with just raw vocals and stage presence like Tina Turner. RIP QUEEN ❤

I wrote a book report on I, Tina in junior high school circa 1986-87. Will never forget the red “A+” grade on the paper, as well as my English teacher, who took me aside after class to tell me how much of a TT fan she was as well!

@@jonnyharvey If I recall - remember this was 35+ years ago 😉- the assignment was to read an autobiography of our choice for a book report. I , Tina had recently been released (right around the same time as the Typical Male single/Break Every Rule album) and I asked my parents for the book, which I wanted to read regardless of the report! 😊

Greatest comeback in music history. She almost seemed like a new artist, or someone who had been dominating for decades. All ages sat up and took notice. And she was 45!! Phenomenal. 😊

Thank you for making this video. Tina's Private Dancer album and 1985 HBO special are two of my earliest memories. I would use the TV remote and put something on my head and recreate her shows for my family! Her career is such a huge part of my life and she's the reason why I make music and perform today. ❤

The word comeback was invented for Tina Turner. No one has ever had a return like her. She was the first woman and also the first black woman to tour the stadiums internationally.
Yes I can't think of any other woman at the time who did that. I remember she sold out stadiums even in Ireland

Rock In Peace Tina Turner
The Beatles cover of Help that Tina Turner recorded in 1984 was actually rearranged by Australian legendary singer John Farnham in 1980 so Tina’s version is cover of a cover .
Tina with Australian manager was spending a lot of time in Australia so Tina was listening to a lot Australian artists that wasn’t that successful outside of Australia , so would’ve definitely heard John Farnham’s version which was a top ten hit in Australia .

I Love Tina but I don’t like about her that she only saw herself as a performer and not as a songwriter and producer like I.e. Madonna or Mariah, which makes their music more personal in my humble opinion …
