No Sir you are not splitting hairs. Raw sugar with a molasses crystal is different. The natural form of sugar has this molasses crystal. They break eachother and we are able to digest both the molasses and sugar, normally that's not possible. It leads to all sorts of health benefits. Yes you have to watch your intake, no you cannot just sit on your butt; however NOT ALL CARBS ARE EQUAL.

It would not be as easy to fall for this grocery store tricks if USA had stricter food regulations. GMO, and natural flavors are easy for food companies to get away with in the North American food market because GMO does not have to be labelled, and food regulators don't question ingredients as much. That explains why for example the same Kellogs Cornflakes in USA, and in the UK look the same as a product, but the ingredients are drastically different. The average consumer don't pay attention to ingredients. It is the advertising on the front package that gets them, and food companies know this. They use buzz words, and stuff to trick folks into buying something healthy that may not be truly healthy.

I find staying away from any kind of sweetner had a powerfully positive effect. It didn't just kill my addiction to sugar, it killed the cravings for unhealthy sweet and savoury carbs like sweet buns, meat pies, etc. I save the monk fruit/stevia for special occasions i.e. 1/2 tsp with a creamy mug of coffee. After weeks to months of salted coffee and apple cider water even that 1/2 tsp of monk fruit/stevia tastes really sweet. Even plain water tastes sweet. I'm on the water fast and I found anything sweet whether healthy or not, had a detrimental effect on my latent sweet addiction. That' sh!ts an immortal monster. You can never kill it, only make it sleep. Keep up the good work, Thomas. You're doing a fantastic job.

I started purchasing pure sucralose powder years ago when I realized Splenda packets indeed have carbs and calories! I make my own liquid - just water and sucralose. I store it in the fridge and use 3 drops in a 12-ounce mug of coffee and that's about it. I've tried monkfruit powder and stevia powder but it's hit and miss as far as taste for those. I prefer the sucralose and hope that 3 drops per day is okay!! I use erythritol, allulose and/or bocha sweet for baking.

I am a big fan but was very disappointed with this video. I nearly died from Xylitol a few years ago. My dentist recommended it. It took me months to realize the Xylitol was making me so sick. By that time, I couldn't even drink water without getting nauseous. Erythritol is even worse. Both kill so much gut bacteria they can be lethal. I use pure Stevia - no other ingredients. It comes with a super small spoon that is equivalent to a Tsp of sugar. A no-brainer in my opinion. Also, aspartame is a by-product of chemical warfare research and has been shown to cause brain tumors. This fact is not in question.

Have you tried Now Foods Better Stevia brand? Allulose got a lot of hype as an alternative sweetener when Quest Nutrition started using Allulose in their Quest Hero Bars. Pure Allulose just like pure Monk Fruit is an acquired taste as an alternative sweetener. You either like it or you don't, but most folks can enjoy or tolerate alternative sweetener Stevia similar to Xylitol without missing sugar. Having mentioned all that Splenda will always be the king of alternative sweeteners because it taste just as sweet if not sweeter than sugar, and people are hooked on it to the point that alternative sweeteners like Stevia, and Xylitol won't cut it. I bought Stevia for my mom to try, but she did not like it enough to ditch Splenda. I am also one of those folks that get hungry or want to eat more after consuming something with Splenda, so I avoid it. The problem is Splenda is in almost everything now under the other name Sucralose. A lot of companies have stopped using sugar alcohols, and replaced it with Sucralose. For example Blue Bell Ice Cream stopped using sugar alcohols in their no sugar added ice cream, and replaced it with Sucralose. That change happened in 2015 after they had a listeria outbreak linked to Blue Bell ice cream.

I don't like saccharin for anything other than tea, but I think it's the best thing for tea. The bitterness gives it an almost citrus flavor in tea. I only use half a packet in a glass of tea, so that half a packet is generally my maximum daily intake. As for it being a carcinogen, I thought that topic was put to rest 20 years ago, but now that you mention it, I found some articles saying there is still a concern, just nothing clearly stating what that concern is. I remember the surgeon general's warning on Sweet'N Low when I was a kid, and some places outright banned saccharin, because it caused bladder cancer in male lab rats. It was later determined that the mechanism that caused the cancer in rats was irrelevant to humans, so the warnings were removed. I recently read a study that saccharin and some other artificial sweeteners may have anti-cancer properties because they bind to and block an enzyme that the tumors need to survive. I'm not sure about the insulin spike from saccharin, but I think the biggest concern may be that some people can have an allergic reaction to it.

You're getting more "permissive" each time. "Splenda could kill 50% of your microbiome" - "I'm not opposed to Splenda"; "Ace-K is more the problem, rather than aspartame since aspartame doesn't break a fast" - dismissing the fact that aspartame is 0 calorie because it isn't food, it's a pesticide that causes cancer in the long run.
Dude, just avoid everything synthetic. I'd rather have a short insulin spike with brown sugar than can be burnt off by following up the meal with a walk, than ingest one of these poisons that mess you up in countless ways.
I'll say that I don't consume sugar. I use monk fruit, stevia and erythritol since it's the cleanest sugar alcohol. But I'd really prefer a spoon of sugar than a spoon of pesticide.

@@toddlesiak3837 Like yourself I could not find the research article referenced in my intermittent fasting mentor's book, "Delay Don't Deny", and a proponent of "clean fasting".
You know, I don't know why I'm making such a big deal of it and I will delete my reply on the subject.
I do a lot of dryfasting and I keep autophagy rev'd up by not putting anything in the body irregardless, so maybe that explains my fussiness.

Splenda is like the Coca-Cola of alternative sweeteners. It ubiquitous under its other name Sucralose. That explains why Splenda as a brand is diversifying, and getting into other alternative sweetener markets similar to what Coca-Cola is doing in the beverage market. They now have alternative sweeteners for people who did not like their original formula, and have stopped buying it completely or are buying less of it for health reasons.

Saccharin relationship with cancer was because of tests on lab rats/mice and, I imagine, using amounts multiple times higher than a person would consume, and never proven to have same effect on humans because it would be unethical to test in high amounts on humans. Most people don't like the flavor chemical taste overwhelming sweetness.

Saccharine is among the longest studied food additives in history. There were some studies that showed bladder cancer in mice but that was many times higher dose than anyone would reasonably use. Studies also show that it does not contribute to blood sugar levels. I appreciate your videos and agree with you 99% of the time but I did a deep dive on sweeteners years ago. Also I realize raw sugar isn't "keto" but as far as sweeteners go it's probably the healthiest choice if you keep it to a minimum.
