Great wave action on Lake Superior. We live near the Pacific ocean (the really big lake). During storms the waves can get very big. Waves on the pacific ocean can begin over 1,000 miles away from our California coastline. Remember it can easily be over 6 or 7,000 miles across the pacific ocean to Australia. They still haven't learned after the Fitzgerald. These vessels should have two self launching covered lifeboats, one forward for the bridge and bow personnel and a second at the stern for the after end crew. If the "Fitz" had had them then lives would not have lost.
@@Optimusprimerib36 freshwater and saltwater waves have different structures, and the fluid dynamics are quite different. What works well in saltwater does not work as well in freshwater, so it requires different designs. Plus Lakers have to deal with constant locking, going through extremely tight spaces sometimes just inches wider than the ship, something that oceangoing ships just don’t have to deal with as much. Thanks for letting us take a peek at Duluth's action.
@@jessstone7486 iron ore is our main export, but also some coal, wheat, beet pulp. Imports we get limestone, salt (for ice), industrial equipment such as the turbine blades seen here. Bunch of other miscellaneous stuff as well, such as they just added a container dock which only gets a few ships per year so far since it’s brand new
@@jonathanellsworth21 Thank you so much - very interesting!
The Pacific ocean
is beyond big and huge. We have seen big storms off the Pacific ocean
@@wendyphillips5002 Yeah the Pacific alone is probably a third of the planet! Absolutely massive
Were those wind tubine blades that the Charlie was carrying?
Yep!
Ship leaving and big waves splashing in front 😅
Those leaves look awfully green for Duluth in November.
@@daveth121864 lol I’ve got the dates for all the segments listed, these were all from across this whole year
Heavy heavy girl. Love when the cut has weather
umm where's the Arthur m Anderson at, i didn't even see her in this vid because that ship is the sister ship to the Edmund Fitzgerald.
@@historicproductions223 did a separate video on her! The Hero Ship of the Great Lakes: Arthur M Anderson
ua-cam.com/video/DxRPBrnnejQ/v-deo.html not the sister ship by the way but the ship that was escorting her through the storm and returned to try and rescue the crew
and don't forget to mention she was behind the Fitzgerald when she sank.
Looking at these waves..IMAGINE A NOVEMBER BLOW ...smh..woefully inadequate lifeboat aboard the Philip R Clarke...😞...and the Paul R.Tregurtha...Does the U.S.COAST GUARD actually test the evacuation capability of these large ships. Actually take a ship out into lake superior or any area subject to large volume of wave actions and reproduce actual emergency scenario... ABANDON SHIP TESTS ???
I think that deck is going to get quite wet when she gets out into the tall water.
They still haven't learned after the Fitzgerald. These vessels should have two self launching covered lifeboats, one forward for the bridge and bow personnel and a second at the stern for the after end crew. If the "Fitz" had had them then lives would not have lost.
@@allandarling2930 they didn’t even have time for a distress call much less lifeboats
They’ve learned in different ways. Most importantly, radar and weather forecasting has advanced by leaps and bounds since then.
they've learned a ton. material science and weather forecasting has come a long way.
why oes thePRC fly the Jolly Rodger?
For fun! That flag gets passed around between different ships every few months. Another fleetmate, Presque Isle, has viking shields on her rails
Gordon Lightfoot 🇨🇦
See those waves bounce? Salt water doesn't do that.
Why are great lake ships different than ocean ships? The waves are just as big.....
Having good visibility and exact control of of every square inch of your hull is much more important for a laker

Real nautical in this picture
Wowy water's having issues showing off its physeek Pasidon
Horn voice done to his lover on other side
So when temps plummet n sustain below 0 reading for months this video might take on a sleepy hue. These iron monsters will have to eradicate nature's saltless fresh reservoir
Do you mean evacuate? If so yeah the lakes shut down from January 15th- March 20th, both for ice and lock maintenance
P.R.T is one of the biggest on the lakes
@@ErichRand THE biggest freshwater ship in the world actually

Those boats are too long
Why is that?
Lol 😂
James R Barker is the biggest tho
