If that were to happen it'll 100% wash away my thoughts on Halo4/5... and then before even 1 second passes of actually playing the demo I will die of a heart attack from being to excited. aka: Yes... they should, but they wont. :D
Yeah, we've heard for years how unstable New Mombasa 2003 was yet they played through it 3 times (two of those times trying a bunch of off-script stuff) and didn't crash it once.
I’m going to assume that the devs were referring to the time months before E3 2003 where they were trying to get it finished, and they might have been going through several road blocks with the given hardware at the time, hence why the engine was scrapped after E3.
Awesome to wake up to this video in my UA-cam feed. I loved Halo 2 and waited every day until it's mid night release in Nov 2004. Its so cool of them to show these old builds off. cheers
I hope someone manages to get this online for download. Maybe even if it’s possible make it more stable and playable and even add to it. Modders can do insane things these days
Dude I'd love to see it get leaked to the public. Hell, I would prefer the other build over the E3 2003 Demo personally, because it has SO MUCH! I'd like to have both though, they are really interesting and it bugs me how they acted with playing them. I would have showed off more than what they did.
@@greenbean2222 Yeah I'd personally take the other build over the E3 demo, although having both would be a-ok for me too haha. I feel like we've only seen the tip of the iceberg with that other build. I'd like to dig in to the files and see what's in there as well as the E3 demo to potentially see more unused content and such.
I'd say our best bet would be the overall map, geometry, and scripting notes being released, and given to the H2 pc modders to see what they can do with it, without having to wrestle with the older engine.
That's awesome that they went back and played these builds of the game again! Hopefully one day we can get our hands on these builds and mess around with the the levels ourselves. Great video!
I knew the warthog run playspace actually went through the bit you walk through in the opening. You pass the tents and the marines who were in there despawn. I remember thinking as a kid that the environments would be much more alive and that it was an evolution of the backtracking earlier on. Except that the playspaces would evolve as you backtrack and loop through past playspaces. I'd still love to see something like that in a new halo game.
It's interesting that the untextured geometry you mention for the E3 build looks like a food stall and in the EarthCity unfinished level, you can see storefront on the sidewalk next to the streets. Whereas on the release version of Metropolis there aren't any storefronts or food vendors. It would have made the city feel more lived in IMO if they were included. It also looks like the EarthCity level took place at night or dusk
Awesome, thank you for this. I been out of the loop for awhile now. Halo 2 is still today my favorite out of the main games, its special and just had/has so many epic things about it and it was cool to view the story from the Covenant side no doubt and much more. Just like many of you, i remember back in 03 watching the gameplay demo for H2 and the hype was INSANE! and i was also bummed this didnt make the final product due to technical issues etc even though some of the scripting etc can be noticed in the mission Metropolis. Man the memories. This could of easily been the third Earth mission if done right before Regret does his slipspace, hencing the sun lower in the sky and the darker lighting atmosphere, the 2 missions on Earth wasnt enough! And the tagline was soo misleading, 3 missions on Earth would of been great then we could of cut the The Arbiter. (Just came across your channel *sub*) + your voice isnt annoying/immature like other some other YTers on here. thank you again bro. I hope we all Halo fans get this someday.
I remember I had this demo on a CD when I was little. It hyped me up so much for Halo 2. The game was pretty different, but my God I didn't care. Halo 2 still ended up being amazing.
@@JohnDoe-zq1ho I for sure did. It was a silver disc from Best Buy. There were a number of trailers on it, including a playback of the demonstration used during e3.
Will you do beta videos on Halo 1, 4, and 5? Also there were some things you missed in the previous videos I would love if you went in depth! Like maybe go through the final game's files. But I love the channel and it's a joy whenever you upload!
I plan to do as many as possible, and I do plan to do a build for CE as well as Halo 4's Private Beta and Reach's Public Beta. However, 5's will most likely not happen for a very long time because we can't run it anymore on the Xbox One due to the fact it can't be modified.
I just wanna add a point to the warthog sequence in the demo. Perhaps the warthogs weren’t literally meant to be driven by the AI marines in the retail version. Maybe the self driving marines were meant to be only a set piece sequence which explains why you couldn’t leave the warthog or you couldn’t fire at and blow up your ally’s warthog. Just think of it as the set piece sequence in the mission Quarantine zone when you’re on the gondola racing the humans to get the index. The warthog the marine was driving you around in the E3 demo acted as a gondola sequence as you gunned down covenant forces in the city using the gauss cannon. The sequence conveniently ends right when the brute swats the marines out of the warthog. That would explain why the driving AI scripting is a little choppy because maybe audiences were expecting the marines to literally drive you around on their own. So Bungie set to implement an expectation with technology that was barely there.
You can see both why they were so reluctant to abandon their vision in this build, but also why when they did they had no option but to scrap everything. The ideas were awesome, but the execution was really just the result of tight scripting that would've required a ton of hours just to produce a very restrictive sandbox
Y'know...now that the MCC has made it to PC, has there been any movement towards releasing this to the public? Might be a fun challenge for modders to slip this back into the game, a la The Sith Lords Restored Content Mod for Knights of The Old Republic II...
Why don’t they show us that one deleted halo level where you drive a boat with a turret in the back basically the water hog also assassinations on hunters in halo 3.
It would be cool if there was a way to finish those missions that weren't added in, or at least make them more polished to see what they were like for ourselves.
If the betas were leaked online, I'd be able to take them into maya and mess around with them and more. I'd probably prefer to go onto use Halo 2's map editor and just recreating it as accurately as possible or try porting the map as is to H2visa.
They should make the ‘03 demo playable just so the fans could actually experience the Halo 2 we never got

JustinsaneS222 actually no that won’t happen lol, it’ll just crash, remember bungie themselves said it was unstable
@@prophetofgrunt2088 you would probably need a dev kit to play it anyway
hiphopaDIZZL yeah, the only way they can release it, is if they make it stable
they could release it into mcc as dlc? that way it'll be running on hardware that it can take advantage from.
Johnson said no smoke and mirrors, he was half right
Those graphics looked way too good for the time it was being made, if only it would have worked.
The graphics brought me not just Nostalgia, but SUPER NOSTALGIA! Damn did it look cool.
Too ambitious for the time.
Nice video boss. Still really am surprised at how stable these builds were. No crashes or anything.

can someone reupload the full VOD to yt since mixr is dead??
Any chance for a full analysis of the halo 4 beta? Love your videos, keep it up
Damn, I was hoping we'd see something about that triple melee combo Chief did before he hijacked the ghost in that demo. What that was about and all.
Pretty cool stuff. Some of this I never knew.

FINALLY! I found someone else who likes quarantine zone.
Does the newly released digsite version differ from the original e3 demo? Would be interested to see a comparison video if so..
They should legitimately polish the demo and these levels up and add them into MCC. It would be literally the coolest thing ever.

I'd like to see the Halo Reach alpha build gameplay
You forgot to mention that the Jackals shields, and some geometry up close are not fully textured.
Those graphics, man.
When they said the Xbox couldn't handle the engine they were using, they weren't kidding. That looked like a single digit framerate there.

Why dont the just release it and let modders finish it?
I hope they release this demo to be playable on pc or some sort
