People losing their minds when Chief dual-wielded and car-jacked a ghost. People take that stuff for granted in videogames nowadays, but Halo completely changed our expectations of videogames. It set the bar for first-person shooters for the 21st century.

This really was the Golden Age of gaming, they talk about it now but we've passed it. You expected so little and got so much from many many games. Halo 2 was one of my major titles of my early teens.

Don't think there'll ever be another game that I get as hyped for as Halo 2. The months leading up to it, being drip-fed screenshots, the odd video, hell even the occasional magazine reveal were insane. Loved it.
The closest modern example I can think of was Mass Effect 3's first announcement at the 2010 Spike VGM awards. Then there was a 4 month gap of nothingness... then Game Informer's April 2011 issue published the first Mass Effect 3 article and the Internet went wild. Some dude on GameFAQs named Freedan the Eternal posted the first scans of the magazine on the ME3 board and his Photobucket account crashed the next day because official gaming journalism sites were hotlinking to it and using his info (and his bandwidth) to write their articles lmao.
All this stuff looks simple now, but my god in 2003, this stuff was revolutionary. You would have never seen this type of stuff in a video game before. Whether you like halo or not, it changed things in the video game industry
Honestly, I know this footage came out almost 14 years ago now, but I remember playing the fist Halo game as a kid and loving it and getting a demo disk with this gameplay footage on it and going crazy from just how amazing this footage looked at the time. I couldn't wait to get my hands on this game and unfortunately, it got delayed quite a few times and it only created more hype for the game. I know that Halo 2 had a disappointing cliffhanger at the end, but the rest of the game was amazing for the time (even if we got to play as the Arbiter more than the Chief. I know how much that pissed people off, but looking at it now, Bungie was trying to build a bigger universe by having the Arbiter as a playable and having the player learn more about the world of Halo. Halo 2. To me at least, is honestly one of the best games ever made in my 22 years of life and likely, will always be one of the best games ever made.
Interesting little fact, much of halo 3 was actually going to be the halo 2 campaign, but time and hardware constraints made them decide to cut it out for the next game. As well, quite a few levels were completely scrapped. one example is what one of the developers described as, driving a big forerunner tank though underwater tubes in a high-speed chase against the clock while fighting though hoards of food. Rip great level idea.

True, but quite frankly I don't believe it would be hard with a dev team that is quite large to fix this. This reminds me a lot of the Ubisoft excuse of a lack of female protagonists in their games, that it would take "too long" when honestly it wouldn't.
It is the same engine, I believe, but just heavily modified. Halo 2 had a lot of issues during development, mostly because of the limitations they had with the Xbox.

It’s not a rumor, the MCC team has been working with modders to restore cut content to Halo 1 and 2 - the dig site project. It’s not an EXACT replica since it’s being made in the retail Halo 2 engine, but it looks remarkably close to this. ConverseMass I was like 5-6 when this game came out lol I doubt I would've understood it at that time I loved the game (never mind tbe fact that I searched up stuff of the game and practically spoiled the whole game for myself). The ost is really great, and I loved switching POVs from Master Chief to the Arbiter.
It's neat to hear their big reactions to things we are so used to now days like duel welding and mounted turrets, hijacking. This really shows where Halo was truly starting to take shape
Watching this video brings me back to my childhood and early teenage years... Those were the days where I really, really enjoyed playing videogames... I was 12 when I got my xbox back in 2002, and Halo blew me away. If there's a generation I feel identified with it's got to be this one. I have so many good memories from that generation: Halo 1 & 2, Blinx 1 & 2, Project Gotham Racing 1 & 2, Forza Motorsport, GT3: A spec, Jet Set Radio Future, Final Fantasy X, Shadow of the Colossus... man, I coud go on forever... I still play videogames, but despìte how good they are or they will be in the future, I will never feel the joy from those times.

this is still legendary 17 years later. Kids now don't understand because in this day and age nothing is secret anymore with the internet. You know everything about the game and entire stories can be leaked in an instant. But back here it was all spread from word of mouth and magazines. So when the footage is finally shown of the game people lost their minds. I remember randomly flicking through channels in 2003 and on Tech TV they were showing this demo and this was before I even knew Halo 2 was announced. I was losing my mind over every little thing like everyone else, the new suit, dual wielding, being able to board ghosts, the battle rifle, new covenant. Still gives me chills
What a time it was. Greatest release ever. Until Halo 3. As college kids, we grew up with NES, Sega, SNES, N64, PS1, etc. This was the GREATEST ever. Halo was everything and more.

I still remember seeing this footage for the first time, it included the preview but with Johnson and everyone freaking out over him. (Still one of the best e3 demos ever, would be awesome to actually play this for real.)
audience reactions always make this video more awesome i remember seeing the reactions for the halo 3 e3 announcement trailer, and people were going insane, but then towards the middle where the music and drama was building up there was absolute silence as people were just watching in awe. Truely epic series.
Damn this is back when games had something new to offer. There was always something exciting to look forward to in the next game of any series. No alpha gameplay just the demos and just the game itself when it came out. Simpler times and a lot less complaints
Halo 2 was perhaps the most hyped I've ever been for a video game with duke nukem forever(2001) being the previous title i was eager to see. I remember watching this and not long after i read a magazine with a halo 2 article. There was pictures of elites on Zanzibar and at the time i thought it was a campaign mission. The game didn't disappoint and the multiplayer with a custom friends list and clan hud/interface felt very refreshing. Loved the game. It's only been a thought these last years of what halo 2 would've been like if it didn't run through all the issues during development. Cut missions and scripts along with cut parts from various level makes me wonder how it could've been.
What a time to be living in where we can now play this very demo on our PCs via The Master Chief Collection's Steam Workshop. If it (and mods in general) can be brought to Xbox, then we're fully set. I played the demo and enjoyed it for what it was - I liked the single-shot BR and the unused melee combo animations. Wish the latter stayed in the game, though I imagine they'd be frustrating in Multiplayer.
Everyone - there’s a really good mod that a dedicated fan made on steam for Halo 2. You can play this mission and other content that was cut. Please look it up and play it. Give the man some love.
I'm not sure wether this still looks completely awesome and epic ten years later because it's that good, or the gaming industry has gone to shit. Maybe both. But heck, this got me hyped for a game that came out more than 11 years ago.
Level design is also on point. Still not very many games that look that good aesthetically. They definitely put a lot of work in the demo. Too bad it was never put in the game.

i watched this demo so many times as a kid and a mod just came out for halo 2 on PC that adds in content that was cut, including the single shot battle rifle and i cant tell you how satisfying and nostalgic it is to shoot. timeless
I got this game a couple months ago online (I know I'm extremely late lol), and I would play the story mode with my sibling. It was pretty fun. Anyways, I love the audience's reactions, especially the one that screamed "OH MY GOD" so loudly lmao

I loved the game (never mind tbe fact that I searched up stuff of the game and practically spoiled the whole game for myself). The ost is really great, and I loved switching POVs from Master Chief to the Arbiter.

Watching this video brings me back to my childhood and early teenage years... Those were the days where I really, really enjoyed playing videogames... I was 12 when I got my xbox back in 2002, and Halo blew me away. If there's a generation I feel identified with it's got to be this one. I have so many good memories from that generation: Halo 1 & 2, Blinx 1 & 2, Project Gotham Racing 1 & 2, Forza Motorsport, GT3: A spec, Jet Set Radio Future, Final Fantasy X, Shadow of the Colossus... man, I coud go on forever... I still play videogames, but despìte how good they are or they will be in the future, I will never feel the joy from those times.

this is still legendary 17 years later. Kids now don't understand because in this day and age nothing is secret anymore with the internet. You know everything about the game and entire stories can be leaked in an instant. But back here it was all spread from word of mouth and magazines. So when the footage is finally shown of the game people lost their minds. I remember randomly flicking through channels in 2003 and on Tech TV they were showing this demo and this was before I even knew Halo 2 was announced. I was losing my mind over every little thing like everyone else, the new suit, dual wielding, being able to board ghosts, the battle rifle, new covenant. Still gives me chills

What a time it was. Greatest release ever. Until Halo 3. As college kids, we grew up with NES, Sega, SNES, N64, PS1, etc. This was the GREATEST ever. Halo was everything and more.

@alexsilva28 Yes, 8 years actually. College kids when Halo CE came out were 7-9 yrsold with NES, got SNES/Sega Gensis in middle school, and N64 in highschool.

I was 12 when Halo 2 came out (2004 - 2014) and all the kids were excited. It was and it will be the greatest halo game ever.

i remember seeing the reactions for the halo 3 e3 announcement trailer, and people were going insane, but then towards the middle where the music and drama was building up there was absolute silence as people were just watching in awe.

Damn this is back when games had something new to offer. There was always something exciting to look forward to in the next game of any series. No alpha gameplay just the demos and just the game itself when it came out. Simpler times and a lot less complaints
Halo 2 was perhaps the most hyped I've ever been for a video game with duke nukem forever(2001) being the previous title i was eager to see. I remember watching this and not long after i read a magazine with a halo 2 article. There was pictures of elites on Zanzibar and at the time i thought it was a campaign mission. The game didn't disappoint and the multiplayer with a custom friends list and clan hud/interface felt very refreshing. Loved the game. It's only been a thought these last years of what halo 2 would've been like if it didn't run through all the issues during development. Cut missions and scripts along with cut parts from various level makes me wonder how it could've been.
What a time to be living in where we can now play this very demo on our PCs via The Master Chief Collection's Steam Workshop. If it (and mods in general) can be brought to Xbox, then we're fully set.
I played the demo and enjoyed it for what it was - I liked the single-shot BR and the unused melee combo animations. Wish the latter stayed in the game, though I imagine they'd be frustrating in Multiplayer.
I remember first seeing this on my Xbox demo disc back in the day. I watched it like 50 times.

I'm not sure wether this still looks completely awesome and epic ten years later because it's that good, or the gaming industry has gone to shit. Maybe both. But heck, this got me hyped for a game that came out more than 11 years ago.

The final game got downgraded though, the shadows & lighting is no where near that good in the actual Halo 2.
Level design is also on point. Still not very many games that look that good aesthetically. They definitely put a lot of work in the demo. Too bad it was never put in the game.
@@archivey-h8e thats because this presentation is fake, Bungie actually nuked the whole game engine after this and started from scratch because this demo was bugged to hell and if you deviated even a little from the path shown in the vídeo it crashes the whole game

Halo 2 was my favourite game in the series, and is arguably also the most influential. Imagine what it could be if it hadn't been completely rushed.
Yeah, they did an excellent job for the time they had, imagine if they had all the time they needed.
Over SIXTEEN years later and this gameplay demo still gets me riled up. I was completely enthralled with what I had seen back then and even to this day I still feel cheated how they changed the New Mombasa level in the retail version.
