5:10 Reference from the Art of Halo book, in accordance with the description for the Keyes level - apparently there was a version where Chief used the flamethrower to burn out the skull of Keyes rather than removing just the implant but they cut it as it was too gruesome.
I'm just imagining it in my head how it would look. How they would make it. Imagining myself modding it in. With the low poly graphics, it would look comical today. Back then, for them, it gruesome and realistic. It's funny to me because Treyarch had the same problem in Black Ops 1. They were bragging about having to cut out certain animations because they were too gruesome and graphic. It's ironic because what they would have done (shown in dev discussions later) is nothing compared to the type of animations and particles they're implementing nowadays that are practically photo-realistic and accepted culturally without question. Even demanded by gamers, including myself.
Awesome. Thanks for reuploading! If I remember correctly, the original concept for the mission Keyes was that you were meant to carry his skull out of the ship. This was scrapped in final but was was then repurposed for the Oddball game type (if you look at the skull you can see the neural implants if I remember correctly).
That's awesome that this build still has the script error for Guilty Spark. There was a video elsewhere recently that showed some of the original devs reacting to a speedrun, and Marty O'Donnel actually mentioned how he had to fix the line by going into an audio editor and replacing the last number with a clip of the voice actor saying, "three" from a different take.
The 79 on the pelican is likely it’s length in whatever unit of measurement is standard in halo universe. For example, the first digits on ships in the us coast guard are the length of the vessel. After doing a quick research, the Halo 3 pelican has 77 in its title and has a 77 foot wingspan. Maybe 79 was the original idea?
Plus you're not going to talk about @Blorox Cleech having a Angel Dust profile picture but you're gonna talk about me being cringe because I like the show that's being a hypocrite if you ask me
I think the flamer's running around in circles animations were intended to have the victim give off flame particles, so they would be running around burning alive
23:08 That Grunt getting killed by the flamethrower made me have mercy for him. I mean, look how he is screaming, it feels so bad I started crying and now am terrified
Grunts were known to eat men alive during the human covenant war. I wouldn't feel too bad for the little guy. Also, here's something else- those are methane thanks on their backs. So if you torched one with a flamethrower it would likely explode.
Pretty sure one of the dev team members mentioned that keyes originally was going to involve chief cutting keys head out with the flame thrower which explains the description. Check the developers react to halo ce speedrun
They reused the burned Keyes' skull for the Oddball. They just removed a lot of gruesome detail from the textures. You can see remnants of the original idea, as the neural implants can still be seen on the skull. I'm surprised the original texture hasn't popped up anywhere.
@Thomas.c4647 pretty sure part of it was the gore detail. I know the files were fully intact on the xbox for the flamethrower and it could be modded into the game.
