The main point of doing a Keto diet is to constantly announce to friends and family that you're doing Keto and so can't eat something specific when you're spending time with them. They absolutely love that.

I think another comment explained why keto helps us see things a bit differently. The average American diet is just piles of carbs every meal, many added for no reason except to make the food taste better, but it makes it more caloric.
Keto isn't sustainable for most people but if you do it you see just the massive piles of carbs you have to avoid every single meal. And coming out of that, you might learn some moderation. Suddenly not every ingredient needs added sugars or bread to taste good

Well said😂. Never thought about this simple statement. I believe everything is a lie or perversion of the truth. From authority. So they know but won't tell. I had a buddy that went into the Marines at 18 at 5'4 and weighed like 130lbs. Seen him a year later on leave and he's 5'9 maybe 5'10 and probably weighed 150lb. Was built and ripped like Bruce Lee. We called him Bruce for years after that. He says that he and other little dudes were giving unknown suplaments pills and a extra meal a day for all of basic training. He says that's how he grew so much. He went on 2 times to try out for navy seals. But didn't make it either time. But to be picked to try out is a thing of pride. It makes you the 1 percent.

Keto is good to wake people up to just how much they're binging on carbs and are addicted to sugar. Most people these days don't even know what actual hunger feels like and misinterpret sugar cravings for hunger. It's good for changing people's mindset and establishing a baseline 'healthy' lifestyle to which you can eventually just reasonably add carbs in moderation back onto and eat an actual healthy and balanced diet from. Keeping in mind the majority of people are trying to lose weight, not gain it. Long term Keto is dumb as hell. Ketopeople are also insufferable and that's coming from someone who lost 100lbs doing it.

I did the carbs mostly from fruit thing, still got increased joint pain, reflux, anxiety, brain fog etc after a while. I know not everyone’s the same, but it does seem to be the case that some people do best with little to none. They don’t deserve to be written off as obnoxious or dumb. Now obviously if they say dumb stuff or promote it as the only way for everyone, that’s different.

Keto is the reason I dropped 10 pants sizes and a shirt size. It's the reason I can bend down and touch my toes. It's the reason I have hair on my chest, arms, and legs. It's the reason I'm not about to pass out at 6pm. It's the reason I don't have as massive mood swings. It's the reason I'm not as constipated through the day. Is it for everyone? No. But bodybuilding isn't for everyone either. People just need to eat less sugar and starchy carbs, though.

I would be dead or having had a kidney replacement right now as a type 2 diabetic if I did not start a keto diet - I’ve been on keto / carnivore for almost a decade and my health and bloodwork has never been better. I also have a history of ALS in my family. This guy swings from one extreme to another without providing alot of evidence to back it. It’s very easy for someone who has a healthy body to say there’s no issue eating carbs . . . I can handle them now that my body has healed but I simply feel better and am healthier in every way when I stick to this lifestyle. That does NOT mean the same is true for everyone - but to almost blanket say most should avoid it is misguided.

Unless you plan never to eat anything that's not keto ever again. Because it's really not sustainable. I did. Keto got healthy. Lost a lot of weight. But I like carbohydrates. I like bread and stuff like that and as soon as you start eating that stuff again of course you'll gain weight. But you have to eat healthy to balance it out. If you just eat cookies and ice cream these high fat high sugar foods they send signals to your brain that your never full even though you ate like three times as many calories as you should have.

I did keto for about 4 months when I was 310 pounds. It is very effective for drastic weight loss for extremely obese individuals. After I lost the fat keto provided too little energy to run or build muscle consistently so I went to a more balanced diet. I say it does have a purpose, at the very least a mental strategy to prevent people from overly snacking at other people’s house when they want to lose weight and they have a long way to go.

Paul has explained before that the ketogenic diet tanked his testosterone levels and he had heart palpitations (his "Why I QUIT keto" video). For men, any diet that caused a drop in testosterone levels should be considered a red flag. Heart palpitations an even bigger warning signs. Even if everything else is good.
But having said that, that was his experience and reaction to a ketogenic diet. If you are in a ketogenic diet and your testosterone is still good or even better, no heart related problems, just continue doing what you do.
But always do blood work every year, but if you on gear you should do that every 6 months anyway.

I’ve been burned (2nd-3rd degree), stabbed and shot in the testicles with a framing gun and a 31/4 inch finish nail and this is by far the worst pain I’ve ever experienced with these spasms. I disagree completely with paul, firstly with regards to the supposed insulin spike needed at the level of the kidneys you do not need to take in carbs exogenously, why because of gluconeogenesis so then as long as you get enough protein in a meal you will get a sufficient insulin spike. So prefereably one or 2 meals a day so its easier to get the enough protein in. This way of eating is how most tribal/ancestral people eat. Another point would be that if doing a carnivore diet properly you will have sufficient dietary taurine which is important as taurine is vital for electrolyte homeostasis.
Lastly when paul was doing a carnivore diet he was not doing it ancestrally as he was eating way too much organ meat specifically liver which is very high in copper and vitamin A, now im not convinced that the retinol content from the liver was causing him hypervitaminosis however with regards to copper toxicity it is very possible that was what caused him his problems while on the diet. Of course only a hypothesis but thinking logically the amount of muscle meat he ate compared to organ meat was very out of proportion for example how much muscle meat is there on a cow compared to how much liver. So if you do want to have organ meats only have it proportionally to the amount of muscle meat you eat. Furthermore with regards to ancestral people who have not or were not influenced by the modern western diet such as the inuits (people paul used to appeal to when he was carnivore) they avoided eating organ meats altogether.

    • @lewis8332
      @lewis8332 25 днів тому

@coomerkiller read what I said as a whole, Paul appealed to those people I mentioned and the Pacific Islanders are better genetically adapted to eating fruits. Fruits should only be eaten seasonally according to each persons ancestry however Paul has gone against this. An Englishman should only eat fruits that grow naturally in England when it’s the right season. Fruit has always historically been used to fatten people up during the summer so that they can get through the winter easier.

Keto helps me control my appetite in a deficit & I feel a bit better. It’s no better or worse for weight loss calorie-wise, just the lack of insulin related hunger/energy issues helps. People hearing you’re doing a ketogenic diet and immediately sh!tting all over it are infinitely more toxic & annoying than people that tell you they’re doing keto imo. I’d never do keto in a calorie surplus, it just helps me in a deficit sometimes. Nothing wrong with that.

The thing many people miss is that there is another option besides keto vs a substantial amount of carbohydrate, and that option is a high protein, low carbohydrate diet. Protein is insulinogenic, and as such is capable of promoting the signal of fed-state/abundance. I will concede that it's probably not as strong of a signal as carbohydrate, but there are plenty of reasons why limiting carbs can be worth it for some individuals. People look at protein needs only through the lens of what supports muscle mass, but protein has many more roles in the body, one of which is as a substrate for glucose production. There are multiple glucogenic hormones in the body, such as glucagon, epinephrine, GP73, and cortisol, yet there is only 1 hormone that lowers it: insulin. It just seems like the body is much more used to having to raise glucose in the context of limited dietary carbohydrates rather than having to lower glucose from copious amounts of carbs, evolutionarily speaking. Substantial amounts of carbohydrates don't work well for everyone. For instance, I've suffered multiple concussions. Eating lots of carbs, even if just from fruit, honey, and squash as Saladino suggests, seems to lead to more frequent episodes of brain fog for me, and my memory just doesn't work quite as well. Aside from that, I also get more joint pain, and my skin looks worse. So far, I have not had any cramping in the absence of those carbs, probably because I eat a plenty of protein instead of forcing myself to limit it based on some fantasy of max ketones being the cure-all, as it seems Paul once thought. It really drives me nuts that there seems to be no middle ground with Paul. For the record, I'm not AT ALL against people eating carbs if they do well on them.

I love these diet talks. Everyone is an expert with a new fad or trend. Diet is easy, cals in cals out. Those calories should be strategic to your energy usage per day. Carbs fats and sugars are all good stuff if your body gets enough exercise to use it properly. If you’re not active, then carbs and sugars should be the least amount of what you eat. Protein no matter the goal or narrative is the largest portion you should be consuming. Too much science and not enough back to basics IMO. Everyone over complicates the fitness industry.

I did keto several years ago. Starting weight was 300lb, 37 yr old male, 6’2, bad but not terrible blood work, but felt horrible.
Did it for about 7 months, lost 70lbs, felt considerably better, blood work improved dramatically to fully healthy levels across the board.
The diet was monotonous and I was ready to be done with it. Ketosis does significantly lower hunger levels, food becomes fuel as opposed to something more emotional. Energy levels were very consistent, and cognitive function was less impaired so there are numerous upsides to running off ketones for a short time. Don’t see any reason to go back on it apart from aiding in weight loss. I’ve mostly kept the weight off.
With all that said, I don’t have autoimmune issues and know it has been life changing for many people with inflammatory diseases, just my experience.
