An important tip that I got frm watching videos about wet vacuum is that press the solution button when going forward & release it when going backward it's more effective & efficient

I've had my floormate deluxe for about 4 or 5 years. Mine has the dreaded dispensing issue....I've watched the videos on how to fix it and have taken it apart several times to fix but it's never permanent. If that issue was fixed I would absolutely love it. But if it hardly dispenses any water, what's the point?

I've had two generations of the Floormate. The current one I own (prob not the latest version) has an aggravating flaw: the extraction is "on" on the wash setting so there is basically no "dwell time" for the cleaning solution to work before it's sucked into the waste tank. The old machine had a setting that let the brushes scrub without being sucked away. I compensate by spreading cleaning solution with a rubber broom and scrubbing with the broom's fingers, then let it "dwell" about 3 minutes, then use the Hoover to scrub/extract. I apply clean water and then use "dry" to extract again. It's a lot of steps but it does produce a very clean floor and grout.

On cleaners do that, spray on the forward stroke, lower handle to lift suction front up, and you can allow "dwell time" before invoking additional scrubbing passes.

Just remove the squeegee when "washing". The machine will scrub without extracting. Then, install the squeegee when drying.

Would you be willing to review; Tineco FLOOR ONE S5 Steam Cleaner Wet Dry Vacuum All-in-one, Hardwood Floor Cleaner? I like that there is steam along with roller extraction. I currently use a steam mop with mop head that need washing. But as you have shown these mostly move the dirt into the grout lines. So I need a good dry wet vacuum for weekly & daily cleaning.

FYI, in the United States, Ollie's Bargain Outlet appears to be one of the channels Bissell uses to offer refurbished units. Refurbed Crosswaves go for only $99, and at least at my local Ollie's, there were PLENTY on the shelf. They technically carry refurbed cordless Crosswave Max units for $199, but those are NEVER in stock. Not sure how cheap you can get a refurb Floormate.

I can’t believe how rude some of these comments are. I liked the video and it helped me make a choice. I recognize that he has high standards for machines. It’s not fair to compare these consumer grade machines to truck-mounted equipment. That being said, I recognized where he was coming from and adjusted my perception of his comments accordingly. @@cruzingrsx4484 I think it’s a great product. It’s more convenient and does a far better job than a mop and bucket. My goal is to have a perfectly clean floor. So I mop the same area until the water is clear. I usually mop the floor three times to get the water to be clear. However, the machine is so fast, I can mop the same area three times with the machine in the same time it usually takes to mop once with a mop and bucket.
I only wish the tanks were bigger so I wouldn’t need to empty the dirty water and refill the clean water so often.

Wow, I like my Bissell a lot though I have a different model. Though I hate cleaning it properly, it was brilliant on our dodgy unsealed cork until we had it replaced finally with vinyl plank. With a dog in the house the Bissell has been a big plus and I found it sometimes broke up and completely removed caked grout. Over time I imagine it will continue to break it down and remove dirt. So, if you use it on new tiles I would think it would do a lot of preventative work. We now have luxury vinyl plank and I am still working out how to leave it with an even and sparkling finish. From looking at other reviews, it seems I may be using too much water. It also has superb maneuverability, which is such a treat for an aging body. :)

Someone who used to do floors cleaning here, no consumer auto scrubber on the market has enough brush torque or speed, and typically have underpowered suction motors. The scrubbing mechanism isn’t height adjustable so they don’t apply enough pressure. The only good unit in this size category is the lindhaus LW30. Yes they cost $1200, but they are made in Italy with very high quality parts, parts are easily replaceable, and they have a long warranty even for commercial use.

    • @HowToCleanLikeAPro
      @HowToCleanLikeAPro  2 роки тому

I would be hesitant to buy an Italian made machine outside of Europe. Particularly something with lots of moving parts like an extractor. I know from previous experience how difficult, if not impossible, it can be to source parts for imported items like these. That said, if it cleans as well as you say it does I don't think $1,200 is unreasonable. Especially since you can clean so much more than just flooring with it.

@@HowToCleanLikeAPro None of these tiny Sub $200 machines will really do anything for grout. The bissell horizontal brush is useless, and while the hoover's rotary will work better, its still a bad copy of a commercial scrubber. Even the smallest of the small commercial ones use 10 to 12 inch brush heads and are around $400 without any suction. A small scrub/vac unit is easily $2000-$5000.
The commercial units also support the full weight of the machine on the brush, without using any wheels. That combined with longer bristles is what allows the bristles to flex and get into the grout. More over, the bissell and hoover tile cleaners are both going to be a neutral pH. This covers liability on the companies side to make sure the cleaner wont hurt a natural stone floor, or a floor thats got any kind of sealant on it.
For a decent clean of the tile in your kitchen use an alkaline tile cleaner from any hardware store and use tile brush that screws onto a broom handle. Then use the hoover with its larger recovery tank with hot just water to suck up the dirty water and do a rinse pass. Then apply a new layer of clear sealant to the grout.
Worked for Stanley Steemer for 5 years, we used this specific brush on a standard hardware store tool handle, could scrub out a kitchen the size of yours in 20 min.

I would start with an alkaline cleaner, scrub the grout, and rinse it clean. Then if the tiles were ceramic and not any kind of stone, I would use an acidic cleaner, scrub the grout and rinse it clean. Then I would go back over the floor with the alkaline cleaner to rinse and neutralize the acidic cleaner to prepare the grout for sealing. then I would seal the grout. After all of that I would use only a good neutral cleaner on the floor; cleaning up spills, daily/weekly/monthly cleaning, etc., always vacuuming before before applying any cleaning solution of course.

You know I used professional machines for years, carpet cleaning machines, floor scrubbers, all costing thousands of dollars, and as far as I’m concerned a Hoover is an awesome little machine! For 10 years living in the country with a husband who wore engineering boots and never wiped his feet I managed with a small Hoover carpet shampooer to keep a white carpet white for 10 years. Gave it away to my neighbor who said it did a better job than her professional man and I bought myself a new one. I haven’t needed one for a long time because I went to luxury vinyl. In my experience if you have tile floors the only thing You can do with dirty grout is clean the grout with soft scrub using a small brush. Rinse it thoroughly and then “re-seal” your grout! Dirt always falls to the lowest level. Once you get your grout cleaned and resealed then if you get a little machine like a Hoover that “really sucks that dirt up” you’ll have a much better success at keeping that floor clean. There is no easy way with tile floor! None. Next time buy luxury vinyl and a swiffer!

I did not know that but I’m not surprised that you had a better experience cleaning your carpet with one of these machines than tile because carpet cleaners have been around so much longer than tile cleaners so the technology has a bit of catching up to do.

@@debbievecchiarelli5480 Well, A mop just rearranges the dirt if you don’t change the water or ring it out properly. The swiffer is the same principle, if your little pad gets dirty and you if you don’t change it you’re just going to be moving the dirt around. The trick is to change the pad often. But Ive trained people to clean for years. I was a supervisor of housekeeping. I’ve used all kinds of machines and trained people on those machines. On your luxury vinyl flooring a swiffer is just a very easy and “quite efficient” mop. But once again you must change that pad!

I'm so happy to have found your videos. I have been considering a McCullough steamer and a wet vacuum. Definitely learned about acid solutions and your for-home method of cleaning from your other video. Thanks for sharing so much! Deep cleaning on a budget is such a mission for the non-abled.
The last piece is about sealing. I have the classic ceramic or porcelain tile with sand grout. Do you have a tool that applies sealant without going on hand and knees? I'm young so I can go on hand/knees but my parents are not able to. I'm trying to find equipment that they can use to clean and maintain the house (large living spaces. I've watched a number of videos of yours and from others and it boggles the mind why manufacturers haven't gotten it yet - make a dedicated grout cleaning machine. Not one of these all-in-ones, or the big commercial ones, but one that only does the one thing really, really well - clean grout. Maybe you could help design its necessary components. Outline what it needs to have, nice-to-have, and what the most important parts are. Perhaps even suggest good design features. Maybe one of the 3 big makers will see it and follow through.

One thing you should be aware of is the that the impeller housing is made of steel!!!
This is where all the dirty water passes through. Over time this part corrodes so much that the
impeller blade jambs and blows the internal fuse.
That they would make this part out of steel is hard to believe. It could have be made out of some non corroding material plastic, stainless steel or aluminum but it wasn't. Funny the impeller blade itself seems to be made of aluminum.

Do you review things to one set standard? Because these products, like the Crosswave, serve their purpose in their niche. I owned a professional cleaning company and I'd never allow these over traditional mopping and vacuuming, however, the reviews are holding these items to standards that are not only unattainable in their genre, but unreasonable. Who in their right mind would think these machines were meant to clean grout, machines built for convenience? When you have pets or kids who spill and make messes, these products are not "poo", they are a godsend. Imagine this, a dozen eggs smashed on the floor sucked up in seconds vs a whole role of paper towels and time? You also stated people were looking to buy these for grout? No, the majority are not, they're buying concentrated steam blasting machines. If you have clean maintained floors that require basic upkeep, these are machines are sufficient. I own multiple vacuums, and each have a purpose so I see where some may work for some and not others. This appeared rushed and based on a bias, considering your opinion of these types of products was stated prior to the review. Think how a viewer perceives that. You're entitled and have every right to say what you think based on the product. The delivery is my point, and things not considered. I say this as constructive criticism, because you have to do research outside your own to see where these items are useful, and there are people for them.

I received a lot of comments from people wanting to know what I thought about using the Bissel Crosswave for cleaning tile and grout so I bought one and made a video about that. Then people asked me what I thought about the Hoover Floormate so I bought one and made a video about it. Those were the people I was referring to when I said people were looking to clean their grout with these. Plus, these machines are made for cleaning hard flooring and I would consider grout to be part of the flooring and so the machine should be able to adequately clean it but it doesn’t. They are great for cleaning up spills but they’re not going to restore a neglected floor which is what the viewers of my previous videos wanted to know.

Now if a few contacted you about these machines and grout, it does not mean the majority are. Anecdotal evidence is just that, anecdotal. The majority purchasing these are moms with toddlers. I'm saying clarify that more for your viewers, because that correlation was never made. As someone who reviews products, they are also appealing to new viewers, like me, maybe address things in more detail, without, "I dislike these products" from the get go. Who would trust a review from someone who doesn't like the concept of the product beforehand? Sorry if you spent money, but you're an affiliate so you do get kickbacks, and it's not enough to say you love a product, so that avenue has no merit to justify liking a product you don't. It just wasn't as informative as others, even the bad ones. You can take criticism personally, (typically immediate impulsive response), or be patient, verify whether or not it's viable, and then either apply that, address it, or ignore it. but it's useful. The review was "which product will I hate less". That's not a real review. That is my analysis. I don't intend to hurt feelings, as you have a personality for video.

I can see, through your comments, how this video, without the context of the two that came before it, makes it seem like I plugged in the Floormate with an agenda. The fact is, that I didn't even know these machines existed until people started asking me about them. So I tried to address their questions the only way I know how: as a professional cleaner being asked by people if they could do a restorative cleaning to their tile and grout with them. After trying out the Crosswave I had limited expectations with the Floormate which seems to have come across more than I realized. I get that that people buy them for cleaning up spills but there are also people who are buying them thinking that they can restore their grout and they just simply, can't. Is grout not a part of the floor anymore? The only part of your (unedited)comment that I took personally was the part where you asked what I was smoking. How could I not take that personally?
