- In this video we react to The Walking Dead Season 7 Premiere! This is part 1 of the episode and part 2 will be out very soon so stay tuned for that. GUYS WHAT AN EPISODE! I know this was a very anticipated reaction so I hope we didn't disappoint but Molly and Courtney were truly devastated and were in shock for most of the episode. This is probably my favorite episode of the season, it's just really well done and Andrew Lincoln's acting is phenomenal. “The day will come when you wont be” is what dr Edwin Jenner told Rick in season 1. An this was the day.
You know what sucks even more? The fact that, between the message and the actual occurrence, so many crazy things happened that even a tiny little nudge of fate in a different direction early on could have led to them never encountering Negan in the first place.
I commonly think back to the episodes on the farm back in season 2, and wish they could just go back in time and redo everything from there. Like for example, NOT LEAVING THE FARM IN THE FIRST PLACE!!! Only the barn was destroyed, everything else was fine! What's wrong with waiting a few days for the herd to pass, then just going back? How many herds do you expect to pass through that lonely country anyway??!?!?!!?!!!

This episode actually looks just like the comic. That frame of Glenn's eye is directly from the pages.
Facts
That was the first time I ever cried when reading a comic. I like Glenn even more in the comics. Fav. character in both mediums. I was more excited in a disturbing sorta way when I watched the show version. Still sad and scary, but I knew it was coming.
I didn't think the show would do it. It shied away from other harsh parts of the comic like The Governor and Michonne. But no. It doubled what the comic did. Seeing it live action was crazy.
Issue 100 was a huge milestone in the comics. They owed it to the source material to remake Glenn's death as accurately as possible and they did a phenomenal job.
Almost - - Abraham did not die in this manner. He was walking along with Eugene earlier and was shot from behind with an arrow (similar to how that female doctor died on the railroad tracks). So they decided to kill Abraham here instead, to give those of us who loved Glen some hope. Like, "well they don't always follow the comics, so maybe they substituted Abraham for Glen." Nope.
Only thing I'm missing is when Maggie punches Rick for being idle during the execution.

As far as Glenn's death, it is without a doubt the most iconic death in the entire comic so the show pretty much shot it panel for panel. If the show hadn't delivered that it would've just pissed off fans of the comic saying they censored it or were too scared to kill him off. It's also pretty vital for Maggie's future arc. I think this ep had an appropriate tone for what it was trying to accomplish.
As much as you hate to see it, it was important to have that death and to show it with all its gore. This is not supposed to just be a sad death. This is supposed to be the first time Rick is really out if his element. They've suffered losses, but it's never broken his spirit until now.
it was vital for her arc yet she decided to leave the show. Which I guess would have been weird having him there and not her. I know she's coming back. Still though. Glenn was one of my favorites but I wish Abraham had stuck around. I get needing shock Factor. But really there was no reason for both. I lost my two favorites in, I would say one swing, but two technically.

As much as I respect the writers were showing this, glens deaths was the start of the downfall of the show. As much as we lone negan, there is no denying the "negan arc" was below average at best for majority of fans.

Responding to your question Lia: as to whether or not it had to be graphic: as a fan of the comics yes it did have to be that graphic to get the point across for Negan. This was something that we as readers saw a long time coming and we are super glad to see images come out on screen. The brutality of it came alive on television in the same way that it did in images on a page. I did get very emotional reading Glenn's death and they wanted to illustrate the same thing on screen. Brutal as hell but necessary to appease fans of the comics and also to show that Negan was a force to be reckoned with.
Absolutely agree. Couldn’t have worded it better. Considering the show is HEAVILY censored compared to the comics, this was not that bad, think of Noah, Dale, & Beth. Those were all SUPER graphic too. Just be happy we didn’t get the Michonne Gov situation in the show...
@@JacksWorldYT I don't even think it's how graphic it is that gets most people upset, despite them thinking that's why. It's the emotional weight behind the realistic depiction of the graphic violence that gets to them. We've technically seen worse, but not with a character like this. Not with this dark cloud of a villain with a boot on their necks.

Love the emotion here, one of the most brutal introductions of a character, JDM did amazing as Negan, and I can’t wait to see your reactions to upcoming episodes.

I read the comics so I knew it was gonna be fucked but I wasn’t expecting them to be that faithful/brutal. Honestly props to Greg nicotero for making it so visceral.

The baseball bat scene is almost identical to the comics. It was issue #100, and it was only Glenn that was killed. And Glenn had been in the comics for years, since issue #2. The actor who plays Glenn wrote to the creator Robert Kirkman, jokingly saying "you monster, I hope you die" but secretly demanded to producers that was how he wanted to die on the show. Same as the comics. Killing Abraham was a great swerve. Even the comic readers like me didn't see it coming.
That cliffhanger was absolutely insane 6. Months is crazy

Man, I feel your pain, Molly and Courtney. This is tough to watch -- long after I watched it for the first time. I know people who felt like giving up after this episode. Just stick with it. There is a lot of hurt...but there are still some good moments ahead.
The whole TWD community was shocked and devastated from this, think we still are... on the other hand they stayed true to the comics with Glenn and the eye

Holy crap! It's here! We're SO in Pee Pee Pants City now lol. Abraham and Glenn's deaths still hurt and now I don't cry anymore when I watch their death scenes. But I got misty-eyed for Molly and Courtney. I loved Courtney's anxiety peak. Molly's sadness was different this time. No screams, no storming off, no cursing at the gods lol. Just sadness all over her face. I think Courtney's in disbelief just like I predicted lol. Off to part 2! Thanks Lia! 😉

I remember coming home from work, sitting down with a big bowl of spaghetti, and watching this live, and honestly I don't think anything in any form of media has made me feel as ill as the Glenn death scene

One of my favorite moments from Glenn was saving rick and helping him escape the tank. One of the best Rick/Glenn moments.
They had Glenn’s eye pop out because it’s one of the most surprising and iconic moments in the comics
Up to this point, I always remember thinking "I can't wait until Rick and company take these guys down". The governor, terminus, the wolves. But after this episode I didn't feel that way. I felt broken, I was right there with Rick. It was brutal emotionally as well as physically. Truly an amazing episode, such a gut punch. Negan was devastating.

they put this episode on national tv to compete in ratings on Sunday night with a show that was more cut throat at that moment in time. It was HBO's Game of Thrones and this was the same time frame as the end of Season 3 which is brutal af.

I remember when people were trying to figure out who Negan killed after the season 6 finale. I kept telling them if you look at the blood splatter it was definitely Glenn or Abraham even if it wasn't for the comics. When it turned out I was right I was like oh my God. I remember back then my friend Savannah her best friend said I guess you were right and I said I wish I wasn't :-(

This episode was definitely graphic, but I personally loved it (despite how devastating it was). I read the comics so while shocked, I understood what they were going for as far as how graphic it was. That eyeball scene was straight out of the comic and boy was it difficult to watch.

Okay so I don’t think it was Daryl’s fault. Daryl did get in his feelings but he only punched Negan to get the attention off rosita cuz Negan was getting really angry at her. He would’ve killed her I think. Or took her with him or something. Daryl thought punching him would get himself killed which we all know he’s fine with. I don’t think he thought it’d get someone else killed.
Ngl, they took this WAY better than I thought they would after Dale & Hershel...ONWARD THROUGH 7 & 8 to get to 9 & 10 :D!

Also I half expected Lia to laugh at Courtney and Molly’s reactions like she did in earlier seasons because she knows what’s coming and they don’t, so I was prepared to laugh my ass off when Lia did. But when Lia was crying too I stopped laughing and felt like a shithead 😂

I don’t think this episode was that graphic I’d say the most graphic episode’s were the Governor killing all his people and Hershel. And the episode when Dale died and a hole bunch more hick even the first episode with the horse dying but that’s just my opinion.
When I watched this when it originally aired, having to wait a whole year. I was so horrified by that episode, not in a bad way but my heart has never raced like it did watching anything ever. So I will give them props for that

man even now that was crazy lol it was talked about all over how gruesome it was, and tbh the effect it had was major just because long time fans of the show since the beginning grew up with the show so we grew to love these characters unlike in the new season for example you just dont have that connection with the newer characters but i still love the show tbh

The reason it was as graphic as it was is because they wanted to make it as close to the comic book version as possible and they had that same exact scene in the comics. The only controversy there was about the graphic nature is that it's ridiculous that they can show something like that but they can't curse. They do drop some F-bombs these days though but back then, they weren't allowed to do that.
