Minor correction, Wartenberg's Sign is due to an inability of the palmar interossei (not the lumbricals) to adduct the fifth digit against the extensor/abduction tonic activation of the extensor digitorum and extensor digiti minimi.

I had some kind of shoulder tear about 5 years ago. I kind of just ignored it, but i think it eventualy lead to what i have now. I feel a little authritis type feeling in elbow sometimes. But the big problem is that i cannot straigjten my hand up, as if to put my hand on someon elses heart. I can mostly open it up when going in for a handshake, but i kind og have to spread my pinky finger wide, as my middle finger is generally pulled. Index and ring are also weal, but the cord that connects that middle finger must have caught a snag somewhere. I can push up from under the palm and extend it like normal, so it seams the actual finger has mobility, but somewhere be it the wrist or elbow, i assume the muscle has atrophied and it just wont return to working order. I still have a strong grup with this hand, and its probably not even noticable unless i have to extend my hand and wrist. I can waive, but again, the middle finger is slightly pulled and flexing the wrist back from paralell to anywhere backwards makes all the fingers claw with the tips trying to curve towards the thumb...i try to fight thos with the pinky, extended as far as it will go, but its really no use.

What to do if nerve damage is identified? I'm a patient with a combo of all of these from a poorly placed needle in icu. What can be done to fix this? I am getting no help from my medical provider. I can't find anything online for the "after," for patients.

hello from Germany, help please! 4 weeks ago I head a "death hand". yoga, physio-exercises, E-acup. - feel much better now, but ULNARIS was involved heavy and still 4.+5.finger are deaf on the top (they were deaf totally and also 1/2 of the palm. NOW: palm on a table with adducted fingers I can´t open my fingers as much as I can with the other hand and I can´t lift my 4th finger, I can do it with the other hand. is this still from ULNARIS?

    Hello.
Recently i got bite by a dog on my ulnar nerve (wrist) and after that i did all rabies shot , take medicine, but my hand is weak a little bit dur to the bite on ulnar nerve amd i visited a traumatologue every thing is good i was able to stretch and make fist on my hand perfectly and he told its fine and also i can do all activities like writing holding thing keys … i have all sensation however it still weak a little bit and i cant put my fifth and fourth finger together its like still sore . I saw progress it just take time
How long it take to heal for a trauma nerve ( I’m in my 4th week)?
And i am able to return to full activity ( strong finger and finger together)?

Ive had pain by my ulnar nerve in my wrist, I can move my hands freely but occasionally I will feel it down my forearm and occasionally on my elbow even my bicep get tight. but I don’t thinks it’s an elbow issue as the pain is really at the wrist.

My palm near the base of my pinky is painful.. I tried the wartenberg sign test..I can bring the pinky in towards my 4th finger but it hurts.. is it a ulnar nerve issue?

    • @ClinicalPhysio

Hi! Hard to say as pain is not a defining symptom with this test, just weakness. It could be ulnar nerve in terms of location but I would definitely recommend being properly assessed if you are concerned

I have it and yes, there are several hand muscles that no longer function at all. So the atrophy is significant and my right hand is much thinner. I also have permanent numbness on half the hand. Half of the ring finger and the entire pinky is completely numb at all times. My grip strength has decreased significantly also. I'm trying to find out if this is ever considered a disability or physical handicap

    • @ClinicalPhysio

Hi! Probably not in isolation… I.E. if the patient had Wartenburg’s sign only, I would be thinking principally about the ulna nerve, and not thinking about ALS necessarily

The only thing that works for me is stretching the last two digits all the way back to the wrist and holding it there. I do that several times a day every day. I also practice grip strength techniques like squeezing the grip and using weights to build up the dying muscles in my hand. Does anybody know if this is considered a disability where I would be unable to work
