    Thank you so much, MIRI! This video may seem like "common knowledge" at first glance, but you go in depth with your mnemonics and treatments (splints), etc. This was so helpful!! The trick i use for remembering the nerve distribution in the fingers is that the pinky and ring finger, when held up, make a "u" (ulnar)... and the middle finger, index finger, and thumb, when pointing down, make an "M" (median)...
    Thank you for all the work you put into these! I know this video is a year and a half old, but it's still helping folks! What a legacy you are leaving :)

    You are so educated in nerve injuries! It's great that you have created videos to help others learn how to identify these injuries. I actually have a possible combination of these injuries in my non-dominant hand. They are no longer offering me OT (it's been a year since my injury) and say that a surgery may not be helpful. How do I live with these injuries? Do you know of any channels or websites to help nerve injury individuals? My hand is getting very stiff and I would like lifelong tips with dealing with this.

    • @MiriLee
      @MiriLee  7 років тому

      I'm glad to these videos have been helpful, Nagella! I have been meaning to do videos on the pediatric milestones and hope to get to them soon! In the meantime, my suggestion would be to really know the sequences first and then learn the ages. For me, the content just made better sense when I was able to conceptualize the order in which these developments occur instead of just memorizing the ages. I don't think there is really an easy or fast way to learn this area, as there is a lot to cover, but even this can be mastered with conceptualization, application and visualization!

    When I fell - I also had a shoulder dislocation and fracture of humorous. It's all healing so well. In last few days I'm using arm a bit and happy w how much healed. Injury was 12 days now. But the ulnar nerve. I have all symptoms - the two fingers, lower palm, ny forearm all numb. Bill for ER $4800.00. No insurance but pay bills and will pay it too :). But can't afford tons of docs about ulnar. So I been reading. I'm happy to see it often resolves itself. Any advice please!! Thanks.

    Hello! Can anyone explain why (at 4:42) it's a "MCP flexion block splint"? I thought it would have to block extension...TIA

    • @MiriLee
      @MiriLee  6 років тому +2

      Hi Joanne, you are correct that the purpose of the MCP flexion block splint is to prevent hyperextension and provide stabilization of MCP joint. I believe the term "block splint" is referring to a splint that blocks or restricts motion at a given joint while allowing motion at other joints. In the case of the MCP flexion block splint, the splint is "blocking" or restricting motion of the ring and small finger MCP joints by placing them in flexion, while allowing active motion at the adjacent PIP and DIP joints. I honestly don't know how one decides to come up with these terms and names for various splints, but I hope that helps clarify!

    How do you differentiate the high and low median nerve injuries (ape hand and hand of benediction) from low level ulnar nerve injury (claw hand). Looking at photos, I am beginning to get confused...they look the same. Can you clarify how they are different physically and functionally?
