This had me laugh out loud I got a nice used straw hat at the house I could wear
You're welcome, glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks again!
OG rb is becoming my go too real quickly
Absolutely it should be a shelf staple
I think the US should get the NCF and out of country gets the regular. C’mon Wild Turkey.
I agree but let’s face it being Campari owned a lot of the good stuff from them including the WT12 year goes outside
The NCF gets so much love by reviewers. Glad you got a sample to finally share your thoughts on the difference.
Question: Have you ever blinded Rare Breed against a Russell's store pick?
Blinded against a store pick no but I have blinded it against the shelf Russell’s and I prefer rare breed. Having samples a couple store picks though I’m sure most would win but the shelfer bottles of that are not that special
Just got one of these through a family member when they traveled recently. As a rare breed fanatic I’m excited to open it soon
You will love it just amps up the mouthfeel a lot flavor is pretty similar
Thanks for the side by side comparison!
I had to do it I’ve always been curious
I think all WhiskeyTubers like yourself should push that distilleries NOT chill filter their products. I am also a scotch drinker and that has been a VERY big deal to enthusiasts and WhiskyTubers (note no "e") into scotch. The main reason it is done is that NCF whiskey can create a cloudiness when put on ice (another reason just to drink neat) and also some NCF whiskies may develop some small particles clumping that usually fall to the bottom but can float around if shaken. People who care about taste and mouthfeel (as you discovered yourself) will gladly make that tradeoff. Bourbon Bill can lead the charge for NCF! 🏇
Haha I’ll lead the way. Yeah I mean I get it for stuff that gets mixed a lot maybe but I see Rare breed more of a bourbon aficionados drink so it would make a lot of sense that it’s drunk neat a lot and therefore could be NCF
Kind of get why they do it. But chill filtering should only be for low proof high volume stuff, where most of the people don't know any better. They think the whiskey is contaminated if it's not chill filtered. Better yet, change the law & not allow chill filtering for bourbon or maybe for all straight whiskey and people will be forced to become educated on what it is.
Bill you know the reason for filtering, but I get it it does change things a little
Just no reason for them to add a process other than to yes take some extra particles out haha. The mouthfeel is far superior on the NCF
Why does Jimmy keep saying all WT products are NCF?
I don’t know there is clearly a substantial mouth feel difference here
@@bourbonbill Thanks Bill I've heard other people say the same thing. I don't get the chill filter thing.
Great question. The video where he is quoted saying that is from 2018. I did some research and found an excellent explanation from RareBird101, one of the biggest WT experts out there:
"To me this is a sensitive subject, so my comments will be short and direct. Jimmy is well up in age. Many things have changed since he ran the place (virtually by himself). All WT was NCF at one time - including Rare Breed. But most WT is CF now. Jimmy isn’t near as hands on as he used to be - hasn’t been for quite some time now. That’s Eddie’s job, and soon Bruce’s job. Jimmy, while full of knowledge, isn’t perfect. I think we should all step back for a minute and look at this from a more human perspective. Another example is his last Bourbon Pursuit interview, where he stated they used river water. They did at one time, but now it’s RO municipal water. Again, a lot of this comes with age and people should be a little more understanding."
@@The_Profezor I did see that so he was right at the time he said those things. I don't understand the chill filtering. I was a big scotch guy at one time and many great distilleries moved to chill filtering.
@@davidjohnson8930 100% aesthetics. That's the answer. They don't want novices confused by cloudiness, particles, etc.
I knew Rare Breed would win.
Haha yep 100% chance
Are these in the duty free stores in US airports? Or is this Rare Breed NCF 1L only in stores in some countries like Japan?
Should be us airports as well but I’m not 100% certain on that
How sad is it, when an exported product with all the additional export, import taxes & shipping cost is lower price AND higher quality than what is available right here? 1L AND NCF for $50-55 abroad. The 750mL is $55-65 + tax in many areas of U.S.
That's a clear indicator of the state of this country. Keep that in mind when you vote. If you want $65 rare breed in 700mL bottle (like JD does now) keep things the same & you will get it.
Yeah it is crazy that per oz the travel exclusive is cheaper makes no sense
