Not a finished guy I did enjoy the 9 year and the barrel proof. I am looking for the rye toasted but not having much luck. Have the toasted bourbon but not what I'm looking for. Enjoy!!
Yeah ryes are usually better with finishing to me personally
I agree with Penelope choices but do enjoy a store pick architect complex stave I have
I haven’t had a store pick architect not after my dislike of the regular I swore them off

I enjoy many Penelope releases…Rio, 9 Year 4 Grain, Valencia, Architech build 3, American Light Whiskey and Barrel Strength. 🥃
I haven’t had the American light whiskey to be fair
I had to check my Tokaji finish store pick to see if I had similar to this. Mine is a bourbon though. Great review today.

Not a fan of when people sit there and critique producers for not finishing a whiskey longer. It should be about the taste and how the whiskey picked up those finishing barrel(s) notes in the time it was in the barrel. You love the finished product clearly, but if they left it in the finishing barrels for another month or longer, maybe it’d be far overdone or no longer the balance they were shooting for. Same thing goes for age statement on the ECBP. If the whiskey is great, who cares if it’s slightly “younger” than past releases. Just my 2 cents
True age and finishing time isn’t the whole picture but it’s a significant part of it. I think they could have done a little longer on the finishing and made it a little deeper darker and richer
The Sagamore would have been more comparable with Penelope Valencia which is also finished in Vino de Naranja casks.
Yep for sure but I can say the sagamore would easily crush the Penelope Valencia those two bottles are not even in the same league
Sounds similar to Four Gate Port PeriPeri which was 8 year MGP rye finished in Australian port. It’s fantastic. I’m a sucker for a finished rye so May check this out. I’m with you though, generally don’t like Penelope. The 9 year bourbon is ok but I’d rather have a KC single barrel.
It’s probably similar I’m sure the four gate is probably better but so is its price tag haha

I was skeptical until I bought one. I now have 3 different Penelopes, and they are all great. And I never paid more than $80 bucks for any of them.

Thanks and I think it honestly is fine for years I would say once it gets below half I try to finish it in a year or two. If you keep it in a cool dark place I think it lasts awhile. The other factor is how often you open it. You could have a half full bottle that you haven’t touched in 3years be better than something half full that’s a year old but you drink a small pour constantly that keeps adding new oxygen to the bottle
Bill, just joined. Was looking to see if you have reviewed Bulleit 12 year Rye. If you haven’t, I think you may enjoy another 95/5 MGP rye.
It gets delivered tomorrow so I’ll have a review on it next week stay tuned. I have high hopes because of the age but bulleit has a habit of disappointing lol
@@bourbonbill if your expectations are 12-17 Rye, you might be a little disappointed. If you are expecting a 8-12 year Rye, I think you will be impressed. I guess I'm saying, go in with low expectations.

I saw this for 100 doll hairs and passed. Not a Penelope fan historically. Figured I’ll just get a sagamore distillery exclusive and go out for lunch instead
Well that’s a great option a crab cake and a sagamore for the same price lol. I wish Sagamore would do a tojkai finish
@@bourbonbill haha I’m not in Maryland so maybe not a crab cake. Right now I’m just hoping the Albariño finish releases before my sagamore hookup moves
