    I've found a great way to temporarily and softly change the colour
    I used Loreal Magic Retouch in brown to change gold blonde to a much more subtle and toned shade of soft ashy blonde. Matches my hair perfectly. And reduces the shine of the synthetic hair. Im older and conservative, and this result is perfect.

    Using Rit Dyemore make sure it says Synthetic, make sure the water is piping hot like a low boil, use a stainless steel pot or an old one you don’t mind getting stained and keep stirring it to avoid it getting spotty. Much 💕 to yall

      @@shevyweston5088 I’m not sure if it will make it lighter since it’s jet black, Definitely up to you to try it though. When trying to get rid of some of the shine, you could try soaking it in warm water and apple cider vinegar for about 20min and letting it air dry (gently comb it while wet to get any tangles out) or warm water and a little bit of fabric softener. Plus there’s always baby power or dry shampoo that could help.

    One method that works very well for me is using either acrylic inks mixed with alcohol or alcohol based ink. The problem I have found with just any die and water or conditioner is that both of those are actually for depositing color on the outer part of the hair strain, which a synthetic fiber just does not have and so the color washes right off.

    • @TheWiggyWoman
      @TheWiggyWoman  3 роки тому +5

      Yes!! I’m working on a video with the acrylic ink and alcohol coming soon!! If you use the RIT DYEMORE, it does actually dye the fibers and is permanent even after washing!
      I did it on a full wig here and I’ve washed her a few times since filming this and it’s still looking great! ua-cam.com/video/gBsTR8c8mT4/v-deo.html

    • @rentechpad
      @rentechpad 3 роки тому +10

      @@TheWiggyWoman The problem I have had with RIT is that one, its not very blindable when you want to do to do things like root shadows, or steaks, highlights and so on. The problem is that it is not very bendable and where one color touches another you get a pretty muddy color and a very dull tone, and you cannot really mix colors well to come up with that 'just right' hair color'. Acrylic Inks, High Flow Light base (weight not color) acrylic water based paint are specifically mastered to not only be intermixable for different colors, tones and shades, but they can also lay next to each other or softly blend into the next color and retain their own color, which means a wig you want to do a ombre or highlights, root shadows, low lights and so on actually come out looing like human hair would if hair dye was used. And using alcohol in a 1:1 mixture can give you a decent pastel range without having to resort to trying to mix a white base to create a pastel. Also, using alcohol if you want to use a metallic acrylic or want to add a iridescent medium to the color you are using can give you a very true result as if you were applying acrylics to pottery or canvas. I am a painter and my main medium is acrylics, so I had that going for me before I started deciding to stop buying 500 dollar wigs so they could be dyed given how many really cute wigs and extensions there are in synthetics that hold a style. If you run into any issues or difficulties or have questions when you start experimenting please fell free to ask.
      I am working this weekend on doing a couple of mixed tone hair pieces and am going to try a formula i have not seen anyone else use to date using Mica Pigments that we use to color resin and silicon for modeling. The Mica pigments are known to bond with any type of synthetic material in including fibers and actually are what are using in making the color of synthetic fibers to start with. They are also natural mica and probably a much safer material to use or wear. Of course they like about anything will do best when staring with the lightest color possible - just like human hair that you either have to bleach a dark color fist to apply a dye and get true color, or use developer in the process to get a level or two of lift if your hair is not darker than the color you are going for. Since you cannot bleach synthetic fibers, well you can but its a pretty dangerous process to do at home and tends to damage fibers that are not heat resistance, the faster and cheaper method is just get the lightest wig possible, say white, or platinum. using those to start with will almost guarantee you won't end up with a brassy look unless you actually add a brass or cooper color. Also, when applying it to the hair you want to use a very stiff boar bristle paint brush for acrylic paint, as that will get the solution in and around and over each fiber as much as possible, while soft brushes or foam brushes tend to keep the color mostly on the surface layers and when it dries and moves you can end up with spotty color. You do not want to use a hair dye brush because of how they are constructed, they will end up leaving gaps in color or pulling color off an area when apply more to a nearby region. For ink solution a spray bottle and fingers works well but once I have the wig well soaked in the ink solution, I then apply some using a medium nylon acrylic paint brush no wider than 1/4 inch as that lays down a bit of the solution a bit deeper than the spray does and gives you a more natural hair like graduated color. And if you want a glaze, such as you would get with a crystal glaze for human hair, you can get an acrylic gloss medium which can be applied over the hair color of the wig once you happy with the look, or since its an acrylic medium medium you can add it to acrylic paint so that its more like glossy hair and not as matte as acrylics sometimes leave the hair looking and it gives a more natural feel to the hair. you can do the same with an iridescent medium, either putting it on over the colored wig or adding it into the colors you have mixed

I have finally been able to color that ponytail two shades darker by using box dye. I just put the color on the ponytail and let it sit for 48 hours before rinsing it out. The color came out perfect. How is it surprising that the wig made out of fabric works best with (wait for it...) fabric dye! I never got ppl trying to dye synthetics with hair dye. It's like using acrylic paints with turpentine. Yeah they look the same as oils, but they are made out of... the same material as these wigs lol. Also after watching this, I am still left wondering how to dye a synthetic wig because there is lace. The last thing you said was if we want color on synthetic wigs, it'll color the lace first. Gotta protect the lace. Don't want pink lace. So.... But glad I saw as now I know I am stuck with my ash brown wig, it will never be warm chocolate brown and thus I am doomed to a life (or a couple months) of people expressing their concern about my possible renal failure.

      I haven’t tried that, but sharpies are alcohol based ink- so it would seem if you dissolve it in rubbing alcohol it would work just fine! Comic markers are just expensive sharpies with a brush tip 🤣. So you could certainly use a sharpie for highlights too

    I just got a unit, it's part synthetic and its an extremely pale almost white blonde. I just want to take it down to a pale beige. Also I want to not make it all one colour. Ideally a balayage technique... Is it possible?

    • @TheWiggyWoman
      @TheWiggyWoman  3 роки тому

      You can make synthetics darker, but not lighter. So if you want to ADD color then that's doable. I just did a synthetic wig where I also didn't want to make it all one color, I wanted dark at the top and light underneath. It wasn't as bold as balayage in mine but I feel like if I had left it on longer it would have set darker. Balayage would be a fun thing to try though! Here's the video where I darkened the top of a synthetic wig. ua-cam.com/video/gBsTR8c8mT4/v-deo.html

    I dont know if anyone has said this as I cant read through all the comments, but in order to use a hair colour for real hair, you will NOT achieve any colour result unless you actually use the developer as that's what is actually calling fort the colour and ties it to the hair and keep the colour locked in. If I died my own hair using only condition or water , it would do little or nothing and would rinse out very fast. Dylon powderform requires being boiled if you hand colour in order to fully develop, or used in a washing machine, so maybe that's why it was so crystalized? It also needs a special salt to develop fully and stay on fabric in this case wig. I have also seen that alcohol helps colour stay on synthetic wigs so maybe try rubbing alcohol with rit dye next time. You have givem med some ideas as I have, like most gotten some pretty disappointing wigs, colourwise in the past and I would love to play around and see how I could maybe get a colour I would love :D

    Good video, but neither adore or arctic fox are considered professional color. Professional color can only be purchased by licensed professionals, whereas arctic fox and adore can be purchased by anyone.
    The reason the thread on the clips took to the dye is because the thread generally used for extensions is made of cotton, which is a natural fiber and capable of absorbing the dye :3

    • @TheWiggyWoman
      @TheWiggyWoman  3 роки тому +3

      Hey there!! Yes you are right, I probably should not have called it Professional dye, but rather maybe like a premium hair dye. These were ones that didn't come from a box like Clairol but a beauty supply store and are a little more high end than box color.
      Totally agree on the clips taking up color! That thread is likely cotton or a more organic material - and this really helped when I went to dye my synthetic wig because I knew to be extra careful about those Track Lines!!! They'd soak up the dye so much faster than the fibers so it was helpful to show that!

      I haven’t dyed a wig, but all the successful tutorials I have seen don’t use dye, but rather acrylic paint or ink dissolved in alcohol. Then it’s either sprayed on or painted on with a brush or sponge. if the hair is acrylic, it should work best as the pigment likes to bond to its material type. Acrylic pigment can be washed out, though it will take a lot of work to remove 100% of it. But it can be gently cleaned will light to moderate fading, which you can touch up (I just know this from working with acrylic ink and paint for artwork and washing it out of my clothes... it does not like to wash out of cotton, nothing does).
