Lyrics:
you were by my side on the front lines
do you remember?
two casualties of the punk wars
buried in leather
but these days i miss strangers more than i miss my friends
and the waves of conversations breaking on the shores of
my head again
furnishments dumpstered or groundscored
you didn’t need money, not money
everything you owned in a hatchback
battered and musty
but these days i miss strangers more than i miss my friends
and the dive bars filled with hopeless drunks sinking deeper
into their sins
and i’m trying to be here now, but i’m only asking when
reach out to what is choking you
#DeathCabforCutie #AsphaltMeadows #IMissStrangers
These days I miss strangers more than I miss my friends 🥺
I hope my neighbors like this one
😂❤🎉
I hope they enjoy it every time 😅
Best song on a great album, love the up tempo
Amazing talent....cannot stop listening
Wow y'all just though all you had from your last album on this track. Nice
This is one of the many songs on the album that blew me away. Asphalt Meadows is my favorite late-career DCFC album by far, every track is so experimental and you can tell how hard they worked on it. Bands changing their sound is usually a gamble, but this is an example of doing it perfectly.
I wouldn't say this is experimental for them at all. If anything I'd say it feels like an amalgamation to me. Almost like it could feel like a best hits as far as the sounds, but it's been my favorite late career album of theirs in a long time too.
I've enjoyed everything since Kintsugi, I'm getting a little older and these resonate with me the way the older albums did when I was younger, but I would say the previous two albums have been building towards this, both of those had some very strong songs, and on this I think every track is demanding of attention. The crafting of the songs and the ideas in production are both refined and experimental I think, depending on how you look t it. Not sure they've done a spoken word section before like the story of the man afraid of whats in the ocean before.
Fucking banger. We looked like giants meets dark side of the moon lol
They played We looked like Giants when I saw them in June and it was awesome
Thank you! The sprit of WLLG is definitely alive in this jam
There are parts of the album that are almost proggy I agree.
You guys were listening to some Floyd during the pandemic, we can tell :) --- This is badass
agreed
BEST DCFC record in YEARS (may even be my favorite?)!! So far every track I instantly LOVE
Best record since Plans!
Dive bars full of hopeless drunks sinking deeper into their sins... This song gets to the part of me that feels like I'm a stranger myself
Sounds like lockdown tune 😂 loving these new releases
why it be bouncin like that?
How in the fuck does this track only have 55k plays?
There’s some straight garbage out there that’s into the billions, and I listen to just about everything and anything.
You want to talk about a band that’s evolved with beauty and grace, it’s Death Cab. You can listen to their early stuff, you can listen to their later stuff. You still know it’s them. They haven’t abandoned the amazing sound that makes them, them! If you ask me, they’ve only gotten better!
Keep going your thing, gentleman. It’s a thing of beauty. It’s one of your most recent releases, yet, it’s one of my favorites. That says it all.
Dude this new album is gonna be fire
Like this album much more than the last Chris is still sorely missed you can hear it. I miss his nasty raw guitar and eclectic melodic keyboards and most importantly his songwriting contributions, this seems like much more of a conscious effort to sound like they did before Chris left then the last album which you can tell they were struggling to find their way without him. That all being said I'm still digging the new album I like it.
I love this song, I love this band!! DCFC never disappoints me!
I think if it explored the feeling of the chorus in other ways like how we use technology it might've made a neat concept, because it's really the chorus and that last line of "reach out to what is choking you" that resonated with me, like reaching out for your phone. Just like in life offline, online spaces have this tension between overly familiar real world profile bios and curated avatars versus a more anonymous and veiled internet in terms of how we used it in the past. I feel there's an undercurrent here of that between friend and stranger, but the song is great anyway melody wise and in it's rhythms, like everything on the album it's so fresh sounding yet totally in line with the best of Death cab For Cutie.
Dude your feeling it too man we all as humans need to get back out into reality 😂 I have been really going through a lot of changes and new understandings. May you succeed in all you attempt to do. Strength be upon you friend
I might bring down my ceiling dancing to this song
I completely agree!
The visual hurts my eyes but this is too beautiful I'm crying
I though I was the only one who was bothered by the visual hahaha
I’m struggling to connect to this album like I did Thank You For Today, but this song quickly got my attention. I love this song!
I really love their music and I've been a fan since I was a kid. But meeting the lead singer, he is a total asshole. His music makes him seem like he's so down to earth but he is so rude. He's nice enough if you ask for an autograph but he is a different person in the industry.
This one is great! Album highlight for me with Asphalt meadows and Foxglove through the clearcut
To all my fellow front line health and sanitation workers, we will survive these times, no matter how heartbreaking and backbreaking our work is ❤
Thank you so much for this song Death Cab, to happier and healthier times! The show at the commodore was incredible, thank you for recognizing our work!
Thank you 🙏🏻 wild times indeed man especially now. Blessings upon all who are seeking them.
Awesome and eye opening tune 😊❤️👍🎼🎶
Yes, yes, yes!!!!! Enjoying every new single.
Yeah
For me it reminds me of when I ended up living on the streets for a bit after my Mom died. The women I loved left me like a year before that I just started dealing with epilepsy It wasn't always easy but it was an experience my old friends were all gone. Trying to work was difficult cause I would have garandma's seizures I met many different people in my adventures and I enjoyed meeting those strangers. Some left a lasting impression on me and became closer to me than those i thought were friends. The conversations I had we're so insightful and I learned much about myself in that time and I'm grateful that I lived it. I still struggle with my epilepsy but I have gotten back on track and still grow. My compassion and empathy for others grew and I even learned to love myself. Walking those streets listening to music running into all these folks I hope them well and will always remember.
For some reason, when I listen to this song it makes me so happy that I feel like I’m lighter than air. Just this happy, bubble floating in its own self contained space.
Hearing it live at their concert last night was my first exposure to this song, and 2:15--3:15 stopped me dead. What a great way to be introduced to it!
This Song blows me away, my favorite one off this album so far…..
Reach ouutttttttttttttttttttttt!
Great song.
If Ben gibbard reads this I’m the stranger that you miss
