Music you remember sounding futuristic when you were a teenager is now nearly 20 years old and a classic. I remember sending this to a girl I liked over AOL Instant Messenger when I was in middle school. She liked it, eventually we kissed, maybe fell in love for awhile. Her family was rich and she traveled the world after high school while I went to college. She'd always hit me up from wherever she was -- Asia, Australia, Europe -- and it was always more heartbreaking than anything because it reminded me that I was painfully middle class and couldn't live that life with her. High school had made us seem like equals, but she was from another world entirely. Now she lives across the country, got married, had kids, and I did the same with someone else. I have the sort of money nowadays that I'd have needed to travel with her, but that was a lifetime ago and a million miles away. The world moves too fast.

Time moves way too fast. At least you had a shot with her, most chicks that I have listen to Postal Service fur their brows and look at me like I'm crazy, they want no part of it. I've since given up for the most part, they only want to listen to whatever the radio tells them to, and I just won't do that. Glad it worked out for you friend.

I’m not usually up that early, but I could barely sleep at all, probably because I’ve been stressed and anxious out of my mind lately, and I knew at that point that I wasn’t falling back to sleep. Just discovered this song about a year ago, a freind at my work (United States postal service) played it over the Bluetooth speaker on the dock. It immediately caught my attention and made me feel like I was playing dig dug or some retro game. He proceeded to give me all the background and history on this band and death cab… I’ll never forget it. It defined my life and mindset for months to come
It might be nothing, but I've always thought the voices that sing "Everything will change" are almost identical to the ones that sing "Where I am" in The District Sleeps Alone Tonight. They're even both in C Major. Plus the two songs are on almost opposite ends of the album. The first one is about a break up, this one sounds like a new relationship.

I've heard that this song may have been inspired by The Glass Menagerie. It mentions a fire escape and a phonograph, both of which are prominent symbols in the play. The line about platform shoes could also be a reference to the character Laura's physical defect (one leg shorter than the other).

I first heard this album at 19 with my best friend in college. We were both tripping on Morning Glory flower seeds (if you don't/didn't know, look it up). Before then, I ONLY listened to punk, hard rock and metal. When talking about an album literally changing your life, this was it for me. I finally let go of all the pent up anger and aggression and finally started loving everything and everyone. It also made me become a better songwriter although it was always still hard rock influenced. "Eeeeverything will change."
