Anyone want to see a “what’s in my camera case”?
Of course!
I am in the process of choosing audio now so seeing this video gives me an idea of what to look for. I have a deity d3 pro for on camera and I'm trying to get a versatile audio system together to go with it. I'm new to video so I want a system that is decent for most video work.
@@noflavorimaging3335 oh nice! I had the d3 pro. I’ve had some bad luck with deity products so I stopped buying them lol. I now have the rode video mic ntg for on camera scratch.
@@JustinPorterMedia oh no lol smh
Have you come around to making a video about how you “clean up audio”, if so would love to watch
@@parislove3084 I haven’t yet but I definitely need to asap.
vids lookin’ clean 👏🏼👏🏼
Despite forgetting to cut my accent lighting on. I was so mad about that haha
I would never have guessed watching videos about cameras and audio stuff would be interesting but u make it so interesting to watch. Good stuff 👏 can't wait for more
I truly appreciate it so much! 🥲
He really does! I love his b-roll
Yessss!! As many audio tips as possible!! Audio is one of my least knowledgeable skills so I need all the help I can get!
Sounds like the next topic for sure. Definitely will make a video on it soon brother 🙌🏾
I agree ! More audio tips please
Excellent video, highly recommended viewing. Very generous with all your hard earned tips Justin, thanks very much
Nice job Justine! I enjoyed listening to your experience and you have a nice clear way of delivering your information! Looking forward to the next video on how you edit your sound!
Thanks so much. I really appreciate it. I need to make that video soon haha
Bro you just don't miss with these videos! It's crazy because I have to have LESS cases living in NYC but I do separate my audio gear from my camera and lenses as well as my lighting.
Thanks so much bro. Yea I don’t know how you do it in nyc lol
Bro. Love your videos and explanations. So helpful. Thank you!
You are amazing! This is so so helpful!! :)
Damn dude, just started watching the video, Im already impressed with the case!
Organization level 3000 haha. Thanks so much for watching.
Will be shooting my first wedding in October. I've got the camera gear covered. I have 2 Tascam Dr -10l recorders for the bride and groom. I've been looking for information on how to connect DJ stuff to audio recorders. Your information has helped. Time code is way far out of my area for the present. I guess I need to invest in connecting cables.
You got this! Just remember it's better to have more cables.
Yeah bro! We want all the nuggets! I need to clean up audio with clothes rustling in it even now. Lol. Great content as always! I’m curious…why is the f2 a backup to the senheizers? Is it because the senheizers record straight to the camera?
Say no more. I’ll do a video on it soon! And yes, it’s a backup only because I hate scrubbing for audio. I use the f2 more for capturing ambient audio like room noise, reception/cocktail mingling etc. that’s the sound I’ll use to mix in as undertones in the films.
Man I’m so glad I’ve found this channel. Your videos had been popping up on my TikTok and last night I just saw your profile and found your UA-cam. Instant sub.
Oh dope man! Thank you so much for the support! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Great info Justin! Thanks!
Thanks so much for watching. Glad you found value in it 🙌🏾
you’re doing my dream job. can’t wait to see more videos.
🙌🏾🙌🏾 oh that’s dope! Thanks so much for your support!
Fantastic video. Keep up the great work!
Thanks so much for watching.
Great video !!
Great tips man! You rock!!!
Thank you! 🤗🤗
Awesome vid! Thanks for the organization tips!
Of course. Thanks so much for watching! 🙌🏽🙌🏽

Hey brother! APPREICATE this! Found ya on TikTok randomly and love your energy! Keep it up!
Hey man thank you so much! Grateful for your support 🙌🏾🔥🔥
I watch this guy on TikTok! Big fan of your work. Very helpful info for us small filmmakers :)
Thanks so much for the support so happy the content is helpful 🙌🏾
Thanks for sharing your real life examples. My wedding video is on point but sound has been challenging. All force seem to work against me. Now there some hope
I felt that haha. Definitely seems like everything that would ruin Audio at a wedding is present lol. Glad this helped a little. 🔥🔥
New sub. Great content and style.
Thank you so much for your support!
Lol that right side tip is fire! I had to learn the hard way as well during a wedding ceremony. Luckily my ceremony audio is just for the audience and not for video.
Saw you on tiktok and now I’m here. Great content bro
Hey bro thanks so much for the support! 🙌🏾🔥🔥
youre cool af and i love ur channel
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the support 🥲
Love the idea about using an XLR splitter. Could you expound upon that? For example, what about a situation where there is more than one microphone? Do you just have a pile of Y splitters or if that happens do you just plug into the DJ Console? Also, yes, please make a video about details of lapel mic placement, rustling mitigation, etc..
Justin!!! Oh My god you are amazing!!!! I'm shooting my first wedding in 3 months, SOLO shooter.... I had my mentor donate to a charity of my choice as payment... Question for you, what is the best way strategy I can use on shoot day to manage the camera and audios? it just seem like a lot for one person. Thanks brother!
Usually every one put their camera lenses & other accessories directly into the hard case but I liked your perfect organization of everything which give more protection to each gear & more easy to access everything , I'm also keeping my stuffs same way in my pelican iM2450 but the problem is my case is not too big to hold everything so I can keep only my camera , 2 lenses & filters pack . For rest of the items including audio I have to carry another bag
Oh yea I used to have it all packed into one case but it just makes sense now since my audio stuff is so much. It’s nice to have it separate. I’d definitely look into the pelican 1510 or a larger one for your camera stuff. My camera case is the pelican 1650
@@JustinPorterMedia The one which I'm using is Pelican Strom iM2450 which is bigger than 1510 & it can hold one camera , 2 lenses with it's pouch & upto 6 filters big pouch , for audio i carry another bag , i think if want to keep all in one better option is Pelican Air 1607 with yellow padded divider set
@@arunr4103 ohhh gotcha. Not familiar with the IM series. Also, try looking into the trekpak. It’s expensive but you can fit so much more gear in the case oppose to the padded dividers. I use trekpak in my camera case and live stream case.
Never knew about 32bit float til this video 😂 bowing my mind still bro
Oh man. Once you use it, you can never have another recorder without it. The zoom F6 is great since it has 6 xlr inputs and timecode. The zoom f3 is awesome too and cheaper but only has 2 xlr inputs.
@@JustinPorterMedia well, after watching your videos, my income will also need 2 inputs 😂 cuz my wallet is about to float as well
@@ethanormeo hahahah I can’t be to blame for new gear haha
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
NICE video.
Thank you so much!
Awesome video, Justin. I myself use FCP and syncing audio with a camera was a pain in the ass because I do it through audio wave syncing. I need to upgrade my audio gear. I would love to know more about your sinking process in Camera.
Oh yea. I used to do the wave syncing but got annoyed when it didn’t work lol. I’ll definitely make a video going over the timecode aspect or include it in bts.
Heartbeat may be great addition of the edit, lol
Have you tried if the MKE2 works with rode wireless systems? I have both rodelink and wireless pro, want to upgrade to the mke2 but dont know if the bias voltage of rode is enough!
hey bro thank you so much for these videos found you on tik tok lol! for the thigh strap where would you place the mic on the bride do you run it up their dress once you connect the lav?
No problem. So glad it was helpful! Yes, I run the mic up the dress. If it’s a form fitting dress without a lot of patterns then you’ll want to run the cable up the side of the dress and use a bridesmaid to line the cable at the bottom of the bra liner on the dress. This way it’s not in the front and showing in any photos/videos
Hi good video. Can you explain how you do the XLR splitter cable and which cable from the mixer?
Hey. Thanks so much. I just made a short literally yesterday at the wedding explaining this haha. I’ll edit and upload asap
@@JustinPorterMedia Thank you so much!
Please can you explain to me how the split works with fact that i always leave before sound guys?
What xlr splitter do you use?
Can you do a video on how you go through and edit your audio? I am watching other videos on the Sennheiser AVX-MKE2 and they haven't came anywhere close to the sound you are producing.
Oh definitely can. A big thing with the AVX is to keep you camera gain settings low. I also set the gain level of the AVX to 1 red bar. On my pocket, the mic level is set around 30%.
So currently I have a set of Rode Wireless Go 2 and a set of Boomx-u2 (which I got when live streaming to avoid the 2.4ghz issue). I also have the same rodelink as you and the rode version of a handheld mic which is awesome in a noisy room and I totally never thought of using for interviews/soundbites, but will be now.
Anyway my question is what should be next on my audio upgrade list...I'm thinking a sperarate recorder as currently it's all into camera?
Oh nice. Yea use that handheld for soundbites. Pass it around during the receptions haha.
I would say get some solid lapel mics and at some point ditch the wireless transmitters. Go to timecode recorders.
For now, grab a good lapel like a Sanken Cos 11-d or sennheiser mke-2 and you’ll instantly see a better sound improvement.
I would only push for externally recording dialogue with timecode. A timecode recorder like zoom F6 or tascam would be a good option.
@@JustinPorterMedia really appreciate not only that you reply to everything, but you are so fast too man, respect
@@kilroyfilms7590 haha not always fast but definitely will respond lol.
Hi Justin! Can you please tell me what are the dividers made of in the case at 0:20-0:23? I had tried a lot of materials and foams but yours seems very useful.
Hey! That’s the pelican trekpak system made specifically for the 1650 case. They make trekpak for certain pelican cases but it’s definitely Tough and allows you to pack more in the case.
@@JustinPorterMedia thank you for this fast reply. I'll check it...
Great video. I've been binging your videos since I discovered you yesterday. You say you run lavs on the bride and groom all day? Don't you get resistance from the couple? Don't they turn them off whenever they go to bathroom etc? I've only invested in one lav, as I hear most brides don't want to be laved up. Should I then have at least 3? I've never shot a professional wedding myself, so I'm just fishing for experience :)
Hey. Thanks so much for the support! It means the world. At this point I never get resistance. My couples who book me know that it’s apart of the process in order to deliver them the films they want.
When I first started doing it I rarely got push back. It always depends on how you communicate with them. Sometimes it just has to be explained ahead of time and they are on board with it 🙌🏾
@@JustinPorterMedia Nice to hear :) thanks for your reply :D
@@bryllupsvideografIsak anytime 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
are you going wireless lav to cam or recording device?
At the time of using this video I would run wireless lav to recorder except for certain parts of the wedding like hair and makeup. I’d run the brides mic directly to camera.
Hey Justin, what cam did you use for this video?
I used the pocket 6k in this video.
@@JustinPorterMedia nice, i have to start using mine more.
If I may ask, What double sided tape do you use for the lavs on clothes and skin?
It’s “Ursa Stickies”. They are insanely good.
What handheld senheisser mic is that ?. What capsule is it ?
Not sure the capsule. I got it as part of the sennheiser AVX kit.
I have a buy once cry once mentality approach to audio gear as I'm also a photographer and made the buy cheap and build choice at first. I'm saying this to say even though I'm new, do you recommend the zoom f6 over the h6? It's a big investment for someone new to filmmaking but Id hate to buy low and spend more later again.
I have that same mentality. My dad always said "if you're going to spend the money anyways, spend it once" lol. I would say yes it's worth it because of 32 bit float alone. They do have a smaller "f3" but my issues with that is there is no timecode which may not be something that concerns you. It also only has 2 xlr inputs. If you want one to buy and know that most situations you'll be covered, I'd say yes to the F6.
@@JustinPorterMedia Yessir! Yeah I don’t fully understand timecode yet but the deity wireless system Im looking into supports it. So it’s probably a good idea to go with the f6 lol. Thanks man!
@@noflavorimaging3335 no problem at all. 🙌🏾🙌🏾
What do you think of the ride wireless go 2 or DJI mic? Would that be a better next gen system?
I personally don’t like them because they don’t have locking 3.5mm mic connections. This is just a risk I won’t take especially when the receiver is on the brides leg. One jerk and your mic is no longer working. I do think they would be great, run and gun systems. Clip it onto someone for fast audio on the fly or using it for ambient audio recording to the camera.
@@JustinPorterMedia Love it! Just an idea, can you do a video regarding lights and the systems you use, especially with Pocket 6ks not having the best low light in comparison to some Mirrorless cams. :)
I'm about to start doing weddings and just going back and forth between what setup I want to rock.
@@alexkennedy5133 yep I definitely can do this too. Lighting for the receptions have been a huge focus for me.
What are your avx audio receiver settings and on camera audio recording levels?
That really depends on what and how loud the area is. Usually I always leave my AVX set to 2 and adjust gain as needed from the camera.
Thanks. I don't see anyone setting above 2 bars on the receiver. I can imagine your camera gains are set higher with crowded settings. I just got the avx system with both the mke2 and me2 mic and its sound pro level right out of the box.
@@beenguyen6358 oh yea. I almost never have a reason to crank it to 4. The Avx is definitely worth it. Amazing audio quality
